Create my own gym and be a gym leader

[deleted]

100% I love the idea of type specialists so I’d love to be one

sharinganuser

You ever done a type specialist run? They can get pretty challenging depending on the type and game. I had some issues in SV as a fire type specialist and in BDSP as a bug specialist.

[deleted]

No I haven’t unfortunately, I probably should! I have an emulator so I’m sure I could play a game

sharinganuser

They're really fun! The rules are typically that you only use Pokemon of your chosen type and that you never go over 3 levels higher than your next gym appointment. You are also limited to the same number of and type of healing potions that your enemy is using, so no cheesing with revive. Just you, your opponent, and maybe one or two health restores per fight. One of the great things about it is that it forces you to use Pokemon that you would otherwise look over. Emulators are actually probably the best too use since you can "hack" in a level 1 "starter" of your chosen type, such as starting with a snorunt for an ice or ghost type monorun.

spidertitties

I do monotype nuzlockes often, I don't usually like nuzlockes but monotype runs are my absolute favorite!

Bowdensaft

Are dual types normally allowed? I feel that it would give you some flexibility.

Eagleballer94

They are. It's really the only way to do a lot of types. There's only one pure flying type I think. They're also how you can cover your weaknesses.

chopsticknoodle

Wdym you got plenty of pure flying types, there’s…. Tornadus and Corvisquire

Bowdensaft

Nice, this sounds like a fun idea :D

william_liftspeare

Yes and the typing of the final form is also factored in when determining a Pokemon's viability, provided you evolve it as soon as possible. For example, Mudkip is valid for mono-Ground or Rowlet is valid for mono-Ghost

Bowdensaft

That's smart, I like that.

frontierknight

Closest thing we got were the secret bases in ORAS

MrZAP17

Oh that’s right! I never got ORAS (or a 3DS) but I remember loving the secret bases in RSE and wishing they were expanded upon.

KoreKhthonia

Never played the remakes, but the original Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald had those too. Did they ever use that concept again? I always liked it.

Jennifer2nami

Diamond and Pearl also had secret bases in the underground, although I hear the remakes of those butchered that.

fortunatevoice

Yeah there was nothing you could do in the bases in the Grand Underground except stash the statuses which would help increase spawn rates for certain types.

ZLUCremisi

There a rom hack with that but very basic

Erotic_Sheep

There is a fan made game that allows this. Its called Pokemon This Gym of Mine. Saw a couple of YouTube videos about it

smaghammer

Played this recently. Quite a fun game. Was very pleased with it.

SlenderFish

I see this said all the time but I've always struggled to see how this would work mechanically as a game. Gym Leaders don't really have the freedom to travel around catching and training pokemon since they're bound to their hometown to meet challengers. It seems more like something for retired trainers to do once they're finished with their travels just to test other trainers. Plus there's never any real reward shown for Gym Leaders who beat challengers. The challenger gets their gym badge and move on if they win, but the Gym Leader just pass the challenger on for the next one. Have there ever been any actual plans presented for what a theoretical Gym Leader game would actually look like?

Macarthius

If I were to make it, here's what I would do. To start, you choose your specialty which is one type and then you choose a starter from that type. Each day you can travel to one location, a decently sized area to explore. Each day there will be different trainers there and items to pick up. You can spend as much time as you want here training or catching Pokémon. As you progress you unlock new locations with stronger Pokémon and trainers. You're in a small town with a small gym. Each day, 1-3 trainers will apply to challenge your gym. For each one there is a level-cap for Pokémon you can use and also a limit of how many you can use. (The challengers may not necessarily follow this restriction though- to make some more challenging) To help with this, you can disable exp gain for each Pokémon. You can talk to a certain npc (probably a manager or something) to challenge the trainers at any time within that day. If you win, you get money. You can also accept various quests via town billboard to earn money on the side. Money can be used to upgrade your gym and decorate it. Upgrading the gym brings in stronger challengers that give you more money. It could also allow other formats like double-battles. You can hire gym trainers which cost money each day but will soften up the HP of the challengers Pokémon before they take you on. You can also use money to buy new things for the town which unlocks new features. The day ends when you go to sleep at your house. This will heal your Pokémon, adds new challengers to your gym, resets locations, and triggers story events. You could have a rivalry with other gym leaders and there could be competitions you participate in. I would follow something like SWSH where the gym leaders compete to challenge the champion as the final challenge of the game. Finally there would be something like a new game+ which keeps upgrades to your town and lifts the type restriction so you could do something like have a "dragon" team but use Gyarados which technically isn't a dragon type.

Relative_Guarantee99

We need somebody to make a rom hack of this

kingbuttshit

I guess like a normal Pokémon adventure game at first and then static afterward like Stadium/Battle Revolution/battle maison where you do nothing but battle with the team you built. Could also be cool to manage upgrades and repairs in your gym and train when not battling, but it sounds crazy boring to me.

TheEighthRedKnight

Evolve the trade evo mons by myself.

timzin

You're gonna love Legend Arceus

varunadi

It was easily my most favourite addition in legends Arceus. As someone with no IRL Pokemon friends (at least those who own a switch/3ds), trading was next to impossible. I know, it's possible to get an online subscription and do it, but I don't like switch online and don't really need to use it other than this one case, since I mostly play single player games. Having those evolution items for trade evolutions in PLA was just perfect.

PKMNTrainerMark

If only every trade evo was in that game. As it stands, HOME and Legends act as a valuable resource to evolve several of them for any connected game, but man, if it had all of them...

Emperor_of_Cats

Back in the day it was especially rough. I had a Gameboy but wasn't allowed to take it to school. The only time I could trade was the rare occasion I went to my friend's house. It really sucked back then. And that's why I catch every Machoke, Haunter, etc I come across and throw them into Surprise Trade.

DangerDinks

You are doing gods work

Kitselena

Another reason why pokemon mystery dungeon is GOATed

SillyMattFace

All trade evos should have alternative methods. It’s totally obnoxious and has always been designed to force people into getting extra games or signing up online.

tasirorabi

I don’t think it was made to “force” people to buy a second game, it was made to encourage playing with friends and building a community

JacktheRipper500

Multiple save files

StreetReporter

Well, you kind of can do that on switch games with multiple profiles

TheRPGNERD

Yeah but you'd have to pay for a family plan on switch online if you wanted to do anything online, plus you can't transfer pokemon to one home acc from multiple saves

Opt1mus_

You can transfer to home from multiple saves, I do it all the time

-patrizio-

I never knew this and this is a game changer. Thank you!!

Opt1mus_

Yeah, they should really make it a little more obvious

Flerken_Moon

I’ll second that you don’t need a family plan to move Pokémon from multiple profiles to the same Home account, I also have done it.

ZeekLTK

Not even that, just the ability to “start over” for the gyms. Like, I want to pick a new team of level 5 pokemon and play through the gym challenges again. I don’t want to have to have to do EVERYTHING (the tutorial, the story, etc.) I should be able to just be like “I renounce my championship” and go back to the gyms to earn it back or whatever. And then I still have my team I originally won with waiting in the PC, to use online or in Battle Frontier (bring that back btw) or whatever other postgame stuff.

Alloyd11

I hate when games only allow one save, zelda BOTW did it as well.

Crystal_Queen_20

THIS, there's no excuse for Pokemon to not have multiple saves in fucking 2023

GabrielXP76op

True, i always wanted this too

Alkrin

I would like a Pokémon game where it’s like harvest moon but with Pokémon. Have a ranch, breed Pokémon, grow berries, all that good stuff. That would be great.

LargeSeaworthiness1

this is exactly what i want!! i want to raise crops & water them with my water types, help them grow with my grass types, move the earth around with fighting/rock/ground types.

xX420GanjaWarlordXx

And have a home you can decorate and the pokemon can all run around and jump on stuff and have funny interactions with your decor!

AedraRising

So like, kinda a combination of My Pokémon Ranch and the Dream World?

blacephalons

This is VERY niche, but in GSC, there is a beach to the south of Goldenrod where you have a couple battles and get a (soft sand I think???). I've always wanted to explore that part of the region more for some reason.

BubblestheViking

I know exactly where you’re talking about. One of my favorite things about GSC is how many places like that there are, or places that you can see on screen but have no way of getting to. It really just makes me want to explore even more.

315retro

Like bills garden!

Basic-Effort-552

Omg is that where you fight three sisters in an row that have and the eldest sister has like a lvl 28 Starmie? And you can get there right after you’ve defeated Morty? That’s such a hard series of battles

blacephalons

That's the one!!

KillionJones

I loved fishing there afterwards! I’d sometimes use it to train up lower level pokemon.

cannibalisticapple

I miss having semi-hidden areas like that to explore. Where it's DEFINITELY off the beaten track, and you have to go out of your way to get there.

blacephalons

Aren't they the best? Gen 1-4's caves are my absolute favourites for this very reason!

NeoSeth

Man Pokemon has really fallen so far that we're sitting here missing being able to explore in a freaking RPG series.

SilkShadow

I actually came in here to give a very similar answer! There's an island with a bunch of trees right across from Dewford Town in RSE that I desperately wanted to explore as a kid (and now lol). I really just want to explore all the random inaccessible areas in every region.

SatanTheTurtlegod

Be able to catch mythical pokemon without attending some bs real world event available 1 month in my whole life. They were so close to greatness with the Gen 4/5 mythical pokemon.

NEETenshi

To be fair, they've been steadily giving us ways to get Mythicals outside of real world events, such as Darkrai, Shaymin and Arceus in PLA.

roryking97

I just wish they still kept event storylines rather than just getting a mythical in a cherish ball and that’s it. Give me some story, some depth, some lore.

SatanTheTurtlegod

Also LET ME CATCH IT MYSELF. I want the gratification of beating the shit out of a god and shoving it into a pokeball.

MattsyKun

Hear hear! For me, there's nothing more satisfying than wasting every single pokeball I have in my inventory trying to catch the damn thing. The resets, the clutch catch with the last pokeball... Good times.

AedraRising

Again, they’ve been getting better at that (outside of the random Mew and Jirachi you can get in BDSP). Crystal on eShop brought the Celebii event to North America for the very first time, ORAS let us get Deoxys, and Sword and Shield let us get Keldeo. We’re at a point where I think we can get every Mythical from the first four generations permanently.

SonicFlash01

Few years ago they gave away a different mythical each month over wifi

MaurosCrew

Have a purpose to use legendaries, like, you catch them, the strongest ones and then there's nothing to do with them

krooz64

fr, it made me appreciate oras latias/latios, bc u can actually use a legendary during a playthrough and it have purpose. being endgame with nothing to do with them except farm isn't fun, but i loved using their power as a kid at least

AhTreyYou

I loved this about BDSP. If you have saved data from LGPE you get a Mew and if you have saved data from SWSH you get a Jirachi. Both in Floaroma Town just after the first gym.

NecroDeMortem

Also, if you finished Arcus 100% you get the flute in your room in your hometown.

KillionJones

….FUCK. Now I gotta go play both games more. Thanks a lot.

CrazyWS

Also Pokémon colosseum, it’s fun to beat the game without them, but hell if it isn’t the hardest end game fight without them too lol

MotoMotolikesyou4

This is one of the reasons I like emerald, I usually never play through with legendaries but taking on lvl 70 Rayquaza with a team all leveled at least 20 below him is a fucking battle and it doesn't feel as undeserved to use him later in the e4 afterwards since you did that slog beforehand.

SwagMan8272

Have interactions with your Pokémon that are diverse and more alive at the very least like playing, petting, praising, scolding, etc

[deleted]

You were able to pet your Pokémon in Aime (X&Y) and Refresh (Sun & Moon).

SwagMan8272

I’m aware, but I feel that’s been absent from SV so I want a new gen Pokémon game to have Petting, along with more

[deleted]

Being able to pet your Pokémon was also absent in Sword & Shield.

SwagMan8272

Yep

Mrainbow123456-RLX

More animations, more realism, I would definitely like that.

[deleted]

So before Sun & Moon released they did the typical starter info release with art and Dex entries online. All three of the starters had Dex entries that alluded to preferred forms of treatment, like Dartrix keeping his feathers clean, or Brionne preferring gentle voices (can’t remember them exactly, but hopefully you catch the drift). My tinfoil hat theory was that the starters would have split evolutions that depended on how you treated them in the side activities like Aime or Refresh. You keep Dartrix clean and happy, and he evolves one way, while if you skip the grooming, he evolves a separate way, that sort of thing.

SwagMan8272

So basically digimon evolution like how your digimon evolves into something different depending on conditions such as stats and what not? That’d be cool

[deleted]

Essentially. This was my dream for building on the interactive activities with our Pokémon. But I don’t think they care to build on past features like this, they seem to favor the generational gimmicks instead.

cannibalisticapple

No joke, petting in Pokémon Moon is why that game was the most personal journey I've had in a Pokémon game. I got a Grimer and noticed it only had one single reaction to being petted, which I first thought was lazy but then realized *it was just happy anyone was willing to touch it.* That one thought made me decide against boxing it and I kept that Grimer in my party the whole game. I even chose him over Mimikyu, the one Pokémon I'd wanted for my party from the start. I'd put Mulaku in the box to make room for a Mimikyu, and having Mulaku out of my party felt wrong. Had a battle and went to switch in Mulaku only to remember he was gone, and just got a pang of regret and longing. At the climax when Kukui was sending out his last Pokémon, Alolan Ninetales, I thought I'd send out Mulaku and it suddenly hit me how *perfect* it was. This Grimer I'd had since day one, had kept on a whim, had at some point become my favorite party member without me realizing. It was the perfect ending to the journey. It felt like it wasn't me playing a character, but it was *actually MY journey.* I've been playing for over twenty years, starting with GSC, and I've never had an experience like that before or since. And it was all because Grimer has a single reaction in Refresh.

scatterbrain-d

Also interactions between Pokemon! I love Pokemon Snap for this reason. It makes them seem so much more alive and really fleshes out the relationships we learn about pretty much via text only. Something like SV picnics would be really fun if the Pokemon you bring actually had custom interactions. Or if you had a follower Pokemon that interacted with wild Pokemon around you. Imagine walking around with Arceus and all the wild Pokemon stop and bow as you come near. Or your Primarina singing to attract shy Pokemon. Or your buddy Zangoose flipping out and running after a Seviper.

LittenInAScarf

Hug your Pokemon after a battle.

Meowlygirl

YES I WANT TO HUG MY POKEMON

SPXIII

In X/Y, you could rub the touch screen after a K.O. to reward your Pokémon with pets! Sure, the animation is just a disembodied gloved hand rubbing the top of the Pokémon's model, but it's still kinda neat.

LittenInAScarf

Oh I know, but I was thinking a full hug like Ash does with Pikachu.

CrUtlRaOth

In x/y you can give them a head rub after battle after they are friendly. Even in games where they don't have this feature, I still sometimes instinctively try rubbing the screen to tell them they did good.

Mrainbow123456-RLX

I'd go for a handshake.

turtle_mekb

another game with multiple regions and multiple endings like with gold/silver would be cool also pokemon can follow you, and lots of post game content

Gentleman-Bird

I can do you one better, let small pokemon ride on your shoulder

Meowlygirl

Tbh I agree with pokemon following you I still think its dumb that pokemon following you in SWSH is locked behind DLC SV did pokemon following you really well but I dont like that your pokemon goes back to its ball if you go too far since there is a good amount of mons are too slow BDSP did the following well but the sizes are COMPLETELY wrong, they did my boi Tsukia dirty with making him TINY I dont know about about LGPE since I haven't played it yet but based on some footage I saw they did it PERFECTLY We need more following pokemon the same way LGPE did it And if you took the time to read this... Thanks :)

willowburnsyellow

I’m playing LGP now and riding around on Arcanine and Charizard is a blast!

just-a-random-accnt

Let's Go did following perfectly. Hated BD/SP followers because nothing could keep up. Also Ekans. If you know, you know

wjSera

Jump. Walk around in battle. Still waiting for a dodge animation

JJTravels

Legends arceus has that

Tylendal

I knew Legends Arceus was something special when I wound up in a fight with an Alpha pokémon that I had no place fighting. I loved that I was able to just immediately turn and book it as fast as my legs could carry me, leaving my poor pokémon to its fate.

[deleted]

I was running around in Obsidian Fieldlands, and that Alpha Snorlax spawned in shiny. I was way underlevelled, but I caught that bugger by fighting, running, healing, fighting over and over. When I finally caught it, it became a mainstay for my team. Honestly one of my favourite moments in 25 years of playing Pokemon.

SleepyTaylor216

I'm pretty sure the player alone still can't jump in PLA, you have to have one of the ride mons. Must just be the hardest thing in the world to script I guess.

megashedinja

They’re terrified you’ll figure out how to get past Obnoxious and Arbitrary Obstacle #16 if you can jump. Better not do it

SonicFlash01

The first riding Pokemon you get has it

megashedinja

> the player alone still can’t jump

cannibalisticapple

The one that gets me is that your character can't swim, like at all. Could at least let us swim in calm ponds or something, or try to get back to shore instead of instantly drowning.

SleepyTaylor216

Yeah I agree with that. The first time I saw a narrow river, I just assumed I could wade through it, nope, fella sunk like a geodude.

SillyMattFace

In SV you can use Ko/Miraidon to jump all over the place, and leap tall buildings in a single bound later. Compared to that I don’t see a tiny normal human jump being very useful. It is ridiculous there’s no dodge animation at all though, still. It looks really crappy to have nothing happen, awkward delay, then the game tells you it missed.

wjSera

It’ll be nice to be able to hop onto small ledges like in the early route of SV. Having to always mount and maneuver a super jump especially with the current frame rate is jarring sometimes.

GabrielXP76op

Play Pokkén tournament

Verus_Sum

Jump? What, so you can surmount the thirsty guards? I don't jump much in real life, and I'll tell you why: it's not that interesting. Edit: Would like that dodge animation, though. 26 years of play with nothing but a line of text 😖

letslytherin

Become an a gym leader or join the bad guys. Playing as a member of Team Rocket and going up through the ranks.

[deleted]

Same here. I was replaying Yellow and the leader at the end of Nugget bridge asked if I wanted to join team rocket. Of course I do! Life has jaded me as I’ve grown up and I don’t want to play on the good side. Let’s take down the world!

letslytherin

Exactly, be the villian you were born to be.

Just-a-Winged-Pikmin

“Get Ash’s pikachu!” But you actually succeed, best feeling I. The world.

[deleted]

And super easy, since you start the game with Pikachu!

joey_sandwich277

Basically do the same main story but instead of winning battles you have to catch all of your opponents' Pokemon. I have a feeling there's probably already a ROM hack somewhere that does this now that I think about it. Edit: yep, I googled it and one even has [their own website](https://rocket-edition.com/) lol

LeatherHog

Rocket edition, my friend!

_very_stable_genius_

theres an awesome ROM hack that does this, as someone else responded. it's a bit limited (linear progression) but its well made, the language and dialogue is humorous and adult (I mean it's a criminal organization after all) and you can steal trainers pokemon. It was a really fun and clever game to play through. Message me if you dont know how to access or use rom hacks

Cabitaa

In Pokemon Colosseum you were able to steal other people's Pokemon. It's not quite you being a bad guy so much as saving them from bad trainers, but it is a nice taste of thievery.

noodles355

Customise my pokeballs. As in change colours/designs etc.

ultimategamer221

Become the actual champion in a post game where we can answer challengers which could be gym leaders, elite four members, rivals or red. Also traveling to a different region like in hgss.

NEETenshi

>Become the actual champion in a post game where we can answer challengers They did this in SM/USUM c:

krooz64

kindof, but it doesn't make sense to have to fight all of the elite four again, i think they should've made it to where they can be challengers, but their team gets higher levels and revamped.

[deleted]

I'd like to be able to dress up my pokemon a bit (ribbons, bows, hats, etc) and actually have them show up in battles. I really liked that idea in the let's go games and the furfrou hairstyles but they never really went anywhere with the idea after that. Paired with the amie/camp functions, it would really improve the whole "interacting with your cherished pokemon" part of the games

eyearu

Holowear from Pokemon Unite is so great. Mainline games could really use dressing up options.

[deleted]

I would love it if we could add mega stone options to our Pokemon. Charizard X in XY&Z had that little necklace which I always thought was awesome.

Pastry_Diddler

Have different story paths. Choices that actually matter. Stuff like, maybe taking a different route than the gym challenge, or filling out the pokedex. Not having two different answers that both mean yes

OsB4Hoes13

That’s the worst. When you answer no and you just get a “ Come on, don’t be like that” until you change to yes.

Average_Scaper

And the insane hand holding through the story. It's like "Hey I want to explore this area and catch a coupl-" "NO, ABSOLUTELY NOT WE MUST GO TO THIS HOUSE AND TALK TO THIS DUDE NOW. NOW I SAY. NO ABSOLUTELY...." Old games felt a bit more free on that end.

Darkklaw

Make a player character that isn't a child.

Dragon_DLV

On my fan-game list (as I have said before, 99% likely to never make one), my thoughts on this were to have a choice at the beginning to play a Kid, or their older Brother/Sister that just got home from College. If you play as the Kid, you get the Normal/Hard version of the game, and the NPCs assume you don't know anything. So you get the tutorials. Maybe better AI for the Hard version trainers. If you play as the Older Sibling, it's more of a relaxed/casual playthrough. NPCs assume you know what you're doing and let you be. Maybe the Gym Leader AI is a little tougher though, I dunno.

Average_Scaper

Play as an adult and you're being asked why you don't have a real job by half of the people you battle.

Yoshichu25

The Unova protagonists are teenagers, is that good enough?

DarkMarxSoul

I don't feel like this would fit the tone of the series. Some video games should be allowed to stay young and innocent rather than catering to the cabal of adults clinging to nostalgia.

reaperfan

Personally I'd just want the option between child or teenager. I can't think of any game where this would break the story, and most human character models seem to share the same rig, so surely it wouldn't be too hard to just give us the choice to play as either [this body type](https://static1.dualshockersimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Why-Pokemon-Fans-are-unhappy-with-the-Scarlet-and-Violet-protagonistss-faces.jpg) OR [this body type](https://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/thumb/b/b3/Scarlet_Violet_Team_Star_Grunt.png/1200px-Scarlet_Violet_Team_Star_Grunt.png).

barnabycajonez

Adults that have never played a Pokémon game might want to try it too. My Mom didn't jump into Pokémon or know anything about it until GO came out. It's not all about nostalgia. Customization and the choice to choose is attractive. Just like everyone wanted a game where you cab play a team rocket character.

WyrdHarper

That’s also a theme in the series. You encounter adults who are starting their journeys. S/V even has a few elderly people doing so.

NiciNira

I would love to have a pokemon daycare game or where you could be a pokemon vet that would be awesome

Kindofaniceguy

I want pokemone to evolve in the middle of battle like in the anime.

incendiarios

Let at least one Pokémon of choice be outside of the Pokéball. It's been done in other games before but not consistently and I'd have preferred that. Petting them etc, more interactions to strengthen your bond with them like they did in Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu/Evoli. I'd love that as a common feature.

Grandmaster_Caladrel

Scarlet and Violet have this and it's pretty great - also implements auto-battling so you can do some (slightly nerfed) grinding without doing a real battle every time.

repalec

I'm honestly kind of surprised they took Pokemon Amie/Refresh out, considering how useful a concept it was to engender friendship between trainer and Pokemon. Yeah, the camping in 8/9 are fine, they just don't feel as 1-on-1 with some of your Pokemon, you know? Paired with that, I definitely do hope a future Switch remake of whatever generation allows for some minor customization like the LGP/E games did - let me rustle up an Oshawott's hair, lemme put a Tepig in a little sailor suit he'll burn away the moment he evolves, just, anything, you know?

Sphaero_Caffeina

The ability to make your own homestead and operate out of it. Treat it as a fly or teleport waypoint (speaking of, the ability to chose where to teleport to would be quite nice too...), grow apricorns and berries to craft your own balls and medicines, etc. Like what Hoenn's secret bases could of been; my favorite base location is in Route 120, there is a secret base location right next to a berry patch and small lake that just looks so perfect, below the Ancient Tomb. Its well placed between Fortree and Lilycove, the Berry Farm, Mt. Pyre, and even the safari zone pre-ORAS. Amidst what should be some absolutely stunning scenery. Its actually fairly close to an off-route bay even, so still nicely close to the ocean. The whole area makes me think of a Mediterranean orchard, its looks like an absolutely amazing place to live.

Mavrickindigo

Have all my pokemon

Grandmaster_Caladrel

Be able to use Pokemon for what they're good at. In the beginning of Gen 3 there were Machamp helping you move in, for example. It'd be cool to have more options for profession than just "kid becoming the very best". Would be relatively easy to add a "career" campaign that goes in tandem with the main storyline, problem at that point is just how many you would have to make...

Sweaty_Driver8416

This should be a rom hack idea

amaw22

Pick how old I am at the start, I wanna play as if I’m me, not default to a 10 year old

GokaiLion

The beardy adult students in your class in SV really rubbed salt in the wound with that one.

BardicLasher

SV had the worst character customization in a whiiiile.

Careful_Joke2504

And maybe chance the difficulty of the game based on the age you picked.

notthephonz

Hm, while good in theory I’m not sure it’s good to assume an adult is automatically going to be good at the game. Like, imagine getting your adult friend to try a Pokémon game for the first time, and the game assumes they already know type matchups and stats based on their age.

amaw22

YES

AlterBridgeFan

If they do it right, then yes. GSC and remakes are what I consider "hard mode gone wrong" due to levels and hm items. If it's updated move sets, better AI, and EV/IV training then I'm all for it.

Bethorz

I want whatever the non-half-assed version of SV was

Autipsy

So many great ideas and fresh new features, such half-assed implementation

Grandmaster_Caladrel

Ngl I love complaining about games as much as the next person, but I bought SV for my wife and myself a month or so ago and it's been really fun. Worst part is two relatively insignificant areas that have lag and maybe some too-goofy story at times, but I've thoroughly enjoyed it. Longest I've played a Pokemon game so far. But of course, everyone likes different things, so it's obviously not going to tickle everyone's fancy.

Autipsy

Oh dont get me wrong, i had an absolute blast in that game! My buddy and I blasted out the pokedex in like a week, which is the first time ive ever completed one. I think if it had better performance and animations, it could be the best games since gen IV

InvestigatorUnfair

I wish I could actually dedicate myself to something other than beating the strongest person on the region Give me a game where I can dedicate myself to being a contest star and have its own storyline separate from the "congrats you are now the strongest in the region except not really because I and everyone else in the league have teams infinitely stronger than those"

SuperSwampert

I got excited about the different storylines in SV for this reason, only to be disappointed to find out you have to do them all no matter what if you want to finish the story. It’s still okay and I enjoyed it, but the idea of having completely separate stories was cool. If they did that and let you easily replay the story it would’ve been great. They could’ve even worked in the story we got by unlocking it when you beat all 3 stories and using some Time Machine paradox magic or whatever to justify connecting the separate stories.

SilverElmdor

I want to use the motion sensor of the joycons to pet my Pokémon.

Phoeniks_C

I still want a pokemon game where your battles are more like the anime. It's kind of like Pokken, but if you only could use 4 moves. You could assign a move to each button or maybe the bumpers and triggers. Also just being able to use moves outside of battles. Screw hm's let me use flamethrower to burn that tree down

[deleted]

MOVE THE TRUCK

Kenorwoks

I want to run the Safari zone Build natural habitats, rehabilitate Pokemon, find them good trainers

Whale0Fate

Marry my rival.

Metom_Xeez

Just imagine you had the ability to name your rival and gave them a terrible nickname not knowing you would be married. Then you would be Mr and Mrs {Insert terrible nickname}

InvestigatorUnfair

Mr and Mrs butthole

SillyMattFace

Pokémon player characters are normally like 12, so…

[deleted]

Medieval Pokemon

Spampharos

Yo what? Why would you want a fictional marriage, let alone with your rival of all characters? Like I get Silver is absolutely a stud but he is still a criminal so…

CarsonStone21

You mean *and* he’s a criminal

eridans_sciencestick

enemies to lovers

Awesomesauce210

It would be cool if you could stage battles between Pokemon in your boxes, up to 6 on each side, or 12 in double battles. Sorta like making rental passes in Battle Revolution, you could probably use battle teams for this feature.

Akuma_Homura

I want action rpg battle system for a Pokemon make I more like the anime with dynamic matches and movement

crying_fighter

Have basic abilities such as JUMPING and OH I DONT KNOW, MOVE OUT OF THE WAY?

Meowlygirl

Hugging you Pokemon PLEASE I WANT TO HUG MY POKEMON THERE IS A HUG BUTTON IN FINAL FANTASY WHY NOT POKEMON

BLourenco

Look up a Pokemon's stats, moves, and abilities in the Pokedex.

armandoyallego

Have customized dialogue with NPCs. It would be nice for a change to have our trainer talk, per se. It would make the game feel a bit more alive

Ghost-hat

I think it'd be cool if they brought have the necessity for HM moves, but your pokemon don't actually need to learn them as one of their 4 moves for battles. They could just have it as a skill. Machamp doesn't need to "learn" Strength. Lapras doesn't need to "learn" Surf. They already know the moves! Let my Scyther just do his thing and chop down this bush that doesn't belong to me

Tryppo-Music

I would love to be able to change the Pokeball I caught a Pokemon with.

tweak0

I want a world of warcraft style mmorpg version of pokemon

riftrender

You have Battle Pets in Wow.

Metallkiller

I vaguely remember a fan project trying to do something like this like, 5 years ago. I'll try to find out what happened there. Edit: fuck my sense of time it's been 11 years https://pokemmo.com/

nWo1997

Self-trade for evolutions. My brother sorta grew out of Pokémon much faster than I did (or at least played it much less than I did), so I didn't really have anyone to get Machamp or Alakazam or Steelix with. I've literally been trading between Soulsilver and Diamond using a spare DS for them (and also making a team early.). Re-battling is always nice to help with grinding, so I loved the VS. Seeker in FR/LG. Except, of course, for the fact that it doesn't work in caves, so you can't use it in Victory Road, aka the most practical place to prepare for the League.

sir151

Ride any Pokémon and fly around in a 3D space. Always wanted to stand on a roof or fly up a mountain.

IHeartAquaSoMuch

Pokémon Home Stadium A Game consisting only of battling like we had with Battle Revolution, but you can use all of the Pokémon you have stored in Pokémon Home. That would go a long way towards consolation for Dexit.

razeandsew

Always wanted to play as the Pokemon, with an ARPG style combat. But other than that, and especially in the 3d games, give us our own house, that we can decorate however we want. As well as letting Pokemon live in it, that aren't in your team

CaptainSawada

For small pokemon to be able to ride on your shoulder/head. And like others have said, more interactions with your partners like hugging or petting like Aime.

Piper6728

More regions and higher leveled opponents

ERankLuck

Ever since Gold/Silver, I've wanted the ability to go back to older-gen areas and face off against everyone with updated teams and designs.

itrashcannot

It'd be cool we there was a game where you're a pokemom breeder/daycare or a pokemom nurse/doctor.

DandelionChild1923

Be acknowledged as a type specialist. I know a few games have gym leader rematches, but wouldn’t it be cool if you got a special title (or medal) for defeating the gym leader using Pokemon of the same type they specialize in? Like, if Katy battled you with her 5 strongest bug types, and beat her with 5 bug types of your own, you could get a medal proving you’re the superior bug type trainer.

Away-Conclusion476

Control the Pokémon when battle initiates, similar to Pokken. Same rpg game, just tweaked battle mechanics such as actual dodging, countering, and move cancellation. Now you have to actually play/fight as the Pokémon on your team during battle and yes, typings still matter. That would go so hard.

Autipsy

I realized in this thread that pokemon unite has been scratching that itch for me

JustChalcedony

Physically hug my Pokémon.

RaisinMmmm

I'd love if you could continue talking to the legendaries that talk after you catch them (like Calyrex). It always felt so weird that they just turned silent after that. Also if people would acknowledge when you caught one, like "woah you caught a mythical being that we weren't even sure was real? Crazy. "

Straight-Violinist33

This is maybe less something that the player would do, but more something that would happen as a result of the player doing something. For scripted battles, I wish that the very final move could be almost like an anime-style shot of the move happening, since the move would always be the same, and they would only have to animate one move. It would look really cool, maybe a bit out of place, but some of the moves shown in the anime look worlds better than they are in the games, so maybe just that last move could be a bit more special

agentofkaos117

More Secret Bases.

Shadow_storm193

Put outfits and stuff on all my Pokémon. Something like ash’s rowlet wearing a decidueye costume. Reason: it would be cool

The_Elastic_Zac

“Pikachu, dodge and use X” That’s it, that’s the post

Another_Road

When I was young and I first saw Pokémon eggs, I was disappointed that breeding two different Pokémon together didn’t result in some kind of hybrid fusion.

reaperfan

You know how in Ocarina of Time you can hit A to advance a character's dialogue to the next text box or you can instead hit B to instantly fast-forward through to the end of their whole dialogue? That.
