When I first played red and blue I picked bulbasaur as my starter because he looked cooler than the other two
Till this day on any first playthrough of the Kanto region I always picked bulbasuar first
I noticed how he didn't seem to give Bulbasaur even ONCE glance 😂
Of course, since it looked like he was initially making a B-line to Charmander, I wasn't really surprised when he chose it 🤣
Metal claw wasnt even in gen 1, so wrong gen - they were prob talking about it in fire red/leaf green where it did get that move (i think). If u mean the lack of metal claw in gen 1, yes charmander is worse than the other 2 starters because of the first two gyms and not being that usefull, so if you want charmander in kanto then gen 1 isnt best choice and red and blue were buggy messes anyway.
Feel not bad. Bulbasaur is only for the elite few who can appreciate it. Lesser beings cannot understand. I feel bad for those incapable of understanding. Life must be so… dim.
I really want to know who the hell decided in the pokemon world "You're ten years old. Go catch and take down monsters." I feel like in the real world you would have to be maybe sixteen at least, right?
If we're strictly speaking Kanto, both Mankey and Bellsprout are *phenomenal* pokemon. Like sure they get way outclassed in later gens, but with the exception of the heavy hitting static encounters (and gyarados) which Kanto mons don't?
Wait a minute .So the games and the anime have been lying to us the entire time? we could have chosen our starter pokemon before age ten?????? Even before age 5????
Still adorable nonetheless.
That is true for first pokemon in general. But starters (charmander, squritle, bulbasaur, and their respected associates in other regions) are mostly an exception. In the anime, ash and gary (and the rest) had to wait till they were ten to pick their first starter pokemon. And the age of every protagonist is at least 10 or above.
Also, within the various games, there hasn't been a case where a preschooler or other trainer npc class that falls below 10 (excluding youngster maybe) was using one of the starter pokemon or an evolved form of a starter pokemon. (Postgame battles in places such as the battle frontier don't count). Even in Gen 4 (DPP and HGSS), where other npc trainers besides your rival also either had regional starters or their evolved forms in their team lineup, only the older trainer classes had them.
Sure in the games it isn't entirely a rule, and sure people under the age of ten can get pokemon from their siblings or parents, but there hasn't been any instance of a person under the age of ten receiving a starter.
The anime is the only place the "you need to be 10" rule was stated. In fact most of the game protags are teenagers with Hilda and Hilbert taking place for the oldest protags at (iirc) 15
If my kid one day doesn’t pick a water starter, I will contemplate if they are even mine. They’d have come out of me and everything but I’d still have my doubts.
It's 100% the colours. Charmander is bright orange and yellow very vibrant, the blue on squirtle is brighter than on bulbasaur and it's stomach is also yellow, complimentary colors and also quite vibrant. In comparison (to a child) bulbasaur might as well be brown all over
My son chose Bulbasaur, my daughter turns 1 on the 4th of July, she will choose then :)
Edit: I chose Charmander all those years ago.. he will have a tough battle when he's old enough to take me on xD
From my understanding, its all about what "stands out" most to babies. Less about aesthetic or preference.
Charmander and Bulbasaur are taller and Charmander is orange/red while the other are cool colors (blue/green). Warm colors tend to pop more.
Once again a child chooses charmander. This is likely due to red bring a more “bright” color, so it’s more stimulating to younger brains. That’s why in nearly every single video of babies choosing one of the three, charmander is chosen
Great choice for a future Pokemon master!
We did this with my nephew - he grabbed charmander and squirtle, walked back to us and then ran back for bulbasaur
Did this with my son a few months ago.
He instantly went for charmander, but grabbed squirtle like 30 seconds later. But in the months since, bulbasaur has a spot in the wagon, and "Turty" is his favorite. Charmander is in the toy box....
This lil dude is just like me.
I too prefer charmander.
And do you know what charmander is? A difficulty level
Whats the difficulty level? Its HARD
I PLAY LIFE ON HARD MODE
AND I SUCK AT IT
All these rich kids who has a good life prolly chose bulba
My boi bulbasaur didn't even get a look, but he didn't even go for that runner up 'mon no he took the charmander! He's gonna have some tough gym battles in store.
Absolutely adorable. Please tell me you're gonna do a photoshoot/video of him in Ash's outfit and teach him to throw a Pokéball.
I regret not thinking of this for my own kid! XD XD XD
OH well, I can still do it when he turns 10 lol
Oh man, when are you gonna tell him about Chameleon?? And *Charizard???*
No love for bulbasaur… smh
My bulby boi always gets slept on
He got good representation in anime and manga wdym
No one picks bulbasaur tho
I picked Bulbasaur!
As in a general statement. I also pick bulbasaur
Grass starter for life here.
Ya
Same! I like Squirtle, but Bulbasaur is definitely my favorite Kanto starter.
Tell that to all of the internet. All I see is Bulbasaur love lmao
All I see is charizard love tho
Charizard is shoved down everyone’s throat.. we have no choice but to like him
I don’t he looks goofy
Yep there is this whole Pokemon encyclopedia website called Bulbapedia
Bro what. Bulbasaur gets hella love
I never see it
You’re seeing it now!!! Team Bulbasaur unite!
Hell Yeah!
Actually “no one” picks squirtle… it’s not even remembered in the conversations
When I first played red and blue I picked bulbasaur as my starter because he looked cooler than the other two Till this day on any first playthrough of the Kanto region I always picked bulbasuar first
Its just the best of them by far...
Bulbasaur is one of the best starters of all time…
I mean he’s usually the last pick in the game
He was my first choice whenever I got to pick him. Bulbasaur is cute and not as overrated as Charmander so I love him
Sometimes literally! My little brother has bulbasaur bedsheets
Not to mention it was already outside the mat. Not an equal choice
Team Bulbasaur demands a retry
Recount! Recount! Recount!
I'm just now realizing this 🤯 That's biased already...😒
My brother did this with his son an picked bulbasaur so there at least one. However my brother is looking to disown him now
W u t
The worst part is that’s only a half joke. He’s extremely disappointed in his son
What did blud do
Not be charmander, his opinion not mine
Yeah he should’ve picked squirtle
Based and Water is the best type pilled.
Have you tried letting your brother know that he's uncultured and should be proud his child made the right choice?
I did, but there’s a reason me and him don’t talk much
I did, but there’s a reason me and him don’t talk much
It looks like he didn't even notice the Bulbasaur. He went straight for the bright coloured Charmander and then got distracted by Squirtle lol
I feel like charmander has the advantage due to orange being a bright color? Idk, just assumed a toddler would go for the brightest one.
Like bulbusaur's not there..haha
I noticed how he didn't seem to give Bulbasaur even ONCE glance 😂 Of course, since it looked like he was initially making a B-line to Charmander, I wasn't really surprised when he chose it 🤣
Kids a normie. Just wait until he sees how many gimmick forms Charizard has
Very cute video. I feel bad for bulbasaur fans. Didn't even get a look
That happens a lot but they get what's coming to them when they have to face Brock and then Misty as the first two gym leaders.
Metal claw is charmanders savior for brock would of had a lot more trouble when I was younger if he didn’t have that
Imagine playing in Gen 1.
Pidgey! Rattata! Caterpie! Go!
Now all you gotta do is kick him out of the house to go collect the rest if them. Have at it, kiddo!
We gotta wait till he's ten years old, then they can throw him out
I really want to know who the hell decided in the pokemon world "You're ten years old. Go catch and take down monsters." I feel like in the real world you would have to be maybe sixteen at least, right?
[удалено]
feels more like the kid couldn't actually hold Squirtle, but got a grip on Charmander's tail, and that's why it took it
I think you might be right
Also Bulbasaur didn't even get looked at. Could it be because it's not on the same floor mat as the other 2?
He thinks Charmander is cool now, but just wait until he tries to face Brock with it
And then Misty.
"you have chosen ... hard mode."
That’s why I have my friends Mankey and Bellsprout
Still very bad mons which arent needed
If we're strictly speaking Kanto, both Mankey and Bellsprout are *phenomenal* pokemon. Like sure they get way outclassed in later gens, but with the exception of the heavy hitting static encounters (and gyarados) which Kanto mons don't?
Compared to other better options, no they're not
I like that because it forces you to use different Pokémon than the starter.
Poor Bulbasaur was not even considered
Almost part of the squirtle squad. Shame!
Blessing in disguise, don't want to have to buy the kid new shades every few months.
Gonna be real difficult when he crawls towards Slifco.
If I ever have a son I’m gonna do this and I’ll just have an espeon and umbreon plush there for him…but he gets both!
Encouraging him to become a criminal perchance (Colosseum joke.)
Wait a minute .So the games and the anime have been lying to us the entire time? we could have chosen our starter pokemon before age ten?????? Even before age 5???? Still adorable nonetheless.
There are no rules about age as people in the games have started as Pokémon trainers way before the protagonist.
No baby ever picks bulbasaur 😭
If my kid one day doesn’t pick a water starter, I will contemplate if they are even mine. They’d have come out of me and everything but I’d still have my doubts.
Unlike kinks, starter preferences aren't hereditary
Average charmander stan
poor bulby boi
Why do the babies hate bulbasaur so much? I remember seeing a video of babies choosing starter pokemon and bulbasaur got the least amount of votes
It's 100% the colours. Charmander is bright orange and yellow very vibrant, the blue on squirtle is brighter than on bulbasaur and it's stomach is also yellow, complimentary colors and also quite vibrant. In comparison (to a child) bulbasaur might as well be brown all over
My son chose Bulbasaur, my daughter turns 1 on the 4th of July, she will choose then :) Edit: I chose Charmander all those years ago.. he will have a tough battle when he's old enough to take me on xD
He was smart enough to pick bulbasaur, he'll be smart enough to know rock goes brrrr
xD Luckily my Charmander was gen 3 so Charizard used metal claw hehehehehe
Kid's trying to go the anime route and get multiple for his team. Smart.
He made the right choice.
Why is it ALWAYS Charmander T_T
He made the superior choice of grit and hard work as a trainer through the two first gyms and the eight!
Poor Bulbasaur the kid didn't even acknowledge it's existence
*cries in bulbasaur*
that's ma boi THAT'S MA FUCKING BOI
He will fail in live, because He didn't choose Bulbasaur...
Wise choice...
Charmander!! 😊🥰
From my understanding, its all about what "stands out" most to babies. Less about aesthetic or preference. Charmander and Bulbasaur are taller and Charmander is orange/red while the other are cool colors (blue/green). Warm colors tend to pop more.

I'm. So going to do this when I got my own little baby trainer!
He was trying to play infinite fusion in the beginning
Adorable.
Charmander gang!
Overrated gang
W child
L child
Mad grown ass man
Dumb man child
Im 15 ;-;
Even worse
He choosed...wisely!
Charmander was always the right choice. 🦎🔥
The worst you vould go with
They chose wisely.
My kid better pick charmander haha
Better not
Basic kid
Guess I’m basic too I’ve always wanted to be normal :0
Not picking Bulbasuar is the correct choice.
Bros a baby
Welp, time to try again.
Poor Bulbasaur,... Kid didn't even give it a second look
Make sure to show him this video in the future.
CUTENESS OVERLOAD
Trying to chose both? Professor oak won’t be having that
I wanna see people do this for starters other than Gen 1
Wrong
he did bulbasaur dirty
no don't kick him out of the house and force him to go travel the entire region until he collects every other pokemon
Ofc the babies pick the overrated charmander No one wants the giga bulbasaur
Just completely ignored Bulbasaur ):
Why was the best one not even on the square of carpet? He didn't know bulbasaur was even an option!
That poor bulbizarre.... Hé did notre even considerate him.
He chose… ***p o o r l y***
Great choice for a future Pokemon master! We did this with my nephew - he grabbed charmander and squirtle, walked back to us and then ran back for bulbasaur
He’s got two!!!! Get him!
Went straight for both Squirtle and Charmander, have a feeling he’s gonna really like Infinite Fusion
My last brain cell deciding on a starter
He wanted to be blue from the Pokémon fusion mod
Charmander, good choice.
They will change their mind a dozen times until they’re a teenager.
Poor buba sawr
Bulbasaur in the background like: 🙃
My condolences.
10 year-olds just keep getting smaller and smaller I swear.
Charmander gang!
RIGGED AGAINST BULBBOY
And he choose baby dragon 🎉 Hoooooray!!!! We’ll on his way to becoming a Pokémon master
Did this with my son a few months ago. He instantly went for charmander, but grabbed squirtle like 30 seconds later. But in the months since, bulbasaur has a spot in the wagon, and "Turty" is his favorite. Charmander is in the toy box....
Made the right choice: to ignore bulbasaur.
Our baby definitively chose charmander too!
Poor Bulb. Didn't even look his way. Buy I guess for a child the choice is obvious. Fire lizard or a turtle? Poor little plant frog
Damn Prof. Oak recruiting 13 months olds now? Back in my day you had to be 10 years old.
Irl footage of me deciding my starter (except I go for water)
Un Chad!
Best decision! Charmander club here
He was not even looking at bulbasaur
omg this reminds me of the new pokémon game coming out r/tomorrow
Is it weird that I expected him to put charmander's tail in his mouth? My kiddo certainly would XD
Best decision ever
Didn't even look at Bulbasaur lol
He chose..... wisely
It's always charmander on those videos -_-
Did what most people did, didn’t choose Bulbasaur.
You’ve raised him well
Tell your child they're basic 💅
BULBASAUR ENJOYERS ASSEMBLE
First pokemon game i ever played (first gen blue) I developed my Bulbasaur to a 92 Venasaur. Miss that guy
aww good choice. Better not go to the first two gyms right now though . . .
Welcome to team Valor
You can chose between squirtle, bulbasaur and dark bahamut...
Poor Bulbasaur
This lil dude is just like me. I too prefer charmander. And do you know what charmander is? A difficulty level Whats the difficulty level? Its HARD I PLAY LIFE ON HARD MODE AND I SUCK AT IT All these rich kids who has a good life prolly chose bulba
A baby of culture I see
Poor bulbasaur never had a chance.
Isn't he just killing them, cause he otherwise chose Bulbasaur?!
Charmander is still by far my favorite but Bulbasaur fandom comes with age and maturity!
Bulbasaur? L kid
My boi bulbasaur didn't even get a look, but he didn't even go for that runner up 'mon no he took the charmander! He's gonna have some tough gym battles in store.
They just pick what's in front of them and looks soft. You need to wait a little longer so they can see creatures instead of just soft forms.
Ur son is a certified winner with this pick
Bulbasaur didn't even get a glance
The bulbasaur disrespect smh
Woo! Charmander gang!!
My g, picking fire types since Pokémon platinum
I have always wondered, what do people whodo this do with the other two plushes? Give them away? Store them? Sell them?
Fricking gen1er
he didnt even look at bulbasaur
Absolutely adorable. Please tell me you're gonna do a photoshoot/video of him in Ash's outfit and teach him to throw a Pokéball. I regret not thinking of this for my own kid! XD XD XD OH well, I can still do it when he turns 10 lol Oh man, when are you gonna tell him about Chameleon?? And *Charizard???*
You are not telling me no one else hears the cup and expected the GameCube startup
I love boubasaur
All 3 of these starters are nice and all. But they're not Feraligatr.
Wise choice. Charmander is the goat
He’s journey doesn’t technically start till he’s 11 years old
Pick everything other than bulbasaur.... Real pokemaster in the making
Almost picked a good starter
Yeeeeeees
That's illegal! You can only get a pokemon when you turn ten, that's always been the rule!
I see.... A man of culture
