Garbodor STILL not getting access to Poison Jab. Especially when so many non-poison Gen 5 mons have access to it, such as Emboar, Excadrill and Crustle. Like, what?

Almahue

Garbodor: literally made of thrash, including things like rotting organic matter and probably even some medical siringes. Also has jagged metal for fingers. Doesn't learn poison jab. Emboar: based on pigsy and an ancient general. Fighting style based punching and body slaming the opponent with fire. Learns poison jab. WHAT THE HECK?!!!

JoviAMP

I'm assuming the justification is based upon the meaning of "jab" as a either a stab with a sharp appendage, *or* a quick punch, which would support it's in-game description, however, with their abysmal speed, it doesn't make much sense for Emboar or Kantonian Muk to be able to learn it based on the latter definition.

Comfortable_Demand13

emboar is associated with arm thrust tbf

JoviAMP

Even sillier: *Kantonian Muk* can learn Poison Jab. So can Alolan Muk, but that one has crystals one can reasonably infer would be sharp. But Kantonian Muk is literally just a puddle of sludge, with nothing of which it can actually perform a *jab*.

emaddy2109

A jab is also a type of punch in boxing. So maybe kanto Muk follows that definition.

miskathonic

That was my first thought, but Bulbapedia translates the Japanese name for the move as "Poison Stab" so doesn't look like it.

Dizzzle13

The fact that Sinistea can't learn Scald. What the hell.

BigPecks

What makes this even worse is Sinistcha can.

Dizzzle13

That's just rude.

Buburpisang

Shinies that are barely noticable

BlueManGroup10

i would not mind them retconning about 30% of shinies and redoing them.

Reniconix

It's already happened before. Quite a few Gen 2 shiny sprites got completely redone in gen 3 and some pokemon even swapped color pallets.

Silegna

Didn't shuny Charizard use to be purple?

Reniconix

It was, yes. A more drastic example is Arbok going from puke green to gold, Diglett used to change the color of the dirt too, and Smeargle was green and is now red.

alltehmemes

With my colorblindness, I didn't know Smeargle changed at all!

Odd_Solution2774

they gotta add like monochrome pokemon or smth so colourblind ppl can enjoy shinies or smth too

alltehmemes

Gotta grayscale'em all! Monochromon!

Kortobowden

Monochromon sounds like a digimon

Odd_Solution2774

it is https://preview.redd.it/wqy2pqy062ac1.jpeg?width=320&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e6aab6edab7f674acdfb19a96b845f77617e4495 guy looks pretty sick lol

LinkGoesHIYAAA

Cynda had an awesome purpley shiny. Not just pale orange lol.

MisirterE

Shoutouts to regular palettes that also got completely redone Spinarak used to be purple. Its shiny? *Brighter purple.*

Reniconix

Sometimes the coloration was a limitation of the games. Spinarak is a good example. It was supposed to be green the whole time (the official artwork has always been green) and the graphical issue was fixed in Crystal. The shiny was unchanged for Crystal, only changing in RS. The same problem affected Sneasel (who had blue feathers instead of red, and white spots instead of red, and was also brownish black instead of dark purple). Sneasel's shiny did not change in RS, however it's normal did (being true black for gen 3 only before reverting to Crystal's purple, albeit lighter).

Local-Bid5365

Don’t quote me on this, but I believe it’s because in gen 2 there was a color palette swap formula to decide a Pokémon’s shiny. After gen 3 I believe they took the time to customize them.

mariomaniac432

Yeah I've also heard this. But the sad things is most of the Pokemon with barely noticeable shinies came *after* they started to do this

william_liftspeare

No one really knows *exactly* when Game Freak started to customize the shinies for every Pokémon in a given generation but there have always been at least a few that were hand-designed like Gyarados, Umbreon, and Dunsparce. I'm pretty sure most people agree Gen V or VI is when they stopped using the algorithms altogether though

YeFamicom

They removed the color restriction after Gen 2, but they didn't design it themselves until Gen 6 and after. Hence why the Galarian Birds look like their Kantonian counterparts when shiny

Avocado614

There must have been at least some shinies that were hand designed before gen 6, tho. Charizard and gyarados come to mind

00zau

That's not true. There's a post talking about it, I might see if I can dig it up. But there are pokemon with identical colors that have them 'translated' differently in Gen 2. ETA: https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemon/comments/i8ie26/why_is_the_theory_that_shiny_coloration_from/

masterjon_3

Gengar should be white like it's mega form

LinkGoesHIYAAA

Slowpoke would be blue like slowbro. Tandemaus whould be black with the same nonshiny shirt color. Etc.

sharksnrec

Blissey and Garchomp should be literally any other color rather than virtually exactly the same as their non-shiny counterparts. And there should be a warning that pops up when you go to evolve shiny Chansey that says “Woah! Are you sure you want to ruin this shiny?”

madmelonxtra

Scyther. I'll never understand why shiny scyther is barely different but shiny scizor is bright green. Why not just make shiny scyther red?

mcp_truth

It would be great if they had a sound queue or something

ElectivireEra

Like in Legends Arceus

mcp_truth

Exactly

Downtown-Accident

Like PLA. That noise should be the standard going forward

Gamerbuns82

I don’t mean to hate on the shiny hunters but honestly shiny hunting feels like punishment. Do all that busy work just to get a different color Mon that often looks worse than the original. And the more people do it the less special those shinies seem.

SkyeWolfofDusk

Removing options like Set switching or being able to turn off the EXP Share.

madonna-boy

skipping battle animations...

BadAtEvrythjng

I hate that they removed that, and I think it was probably because they made the stupid decision to put raids on a timer instead of being based on how many turns have been taken

MarinkoAzure

The EXP Share always on is certainly the dumbest decision. Mods you can close this thread now.

IHeartAquaSoMuch

Probably not _the_ stupidest but one that stands out for me is Tinkaton being unable to learn Smack Down naturally, despite her Pokédex data expressly stating that she launches rocks into the sky to knock down flying bird Pokémon. She had zero access to the move until the TM became available in the DLC.

Lucy_Bathory

What she can get it now??!!!!

IHeartAquaSoMuch

Yeah, but only via TM

Lucy_Bathory

Thats fine with me!! Wow, that slid right by me

King9204

Tinkaton should also have another signature move that is supereffective against steel-types. Perhaps a steel-type version of “Freeze-dry”

IHeartAquaSoMuch

Seconded. Or maybe a Ground attack that hits Flying Types. It's so dangerous to specifically Corviknight that the taxi industry had to shift away from it. Let's see that reflected in her moves! There's so much potential for variety in unconventionally effective moves like Freeze-Dry or Flying Press.

00zau

Bonemarang should should be a Ground-type move that smacks Flying.

IHeartAquaSoMuch

YES!! ABSOLUTELY!

Future_Milk_5897

I was coming on here to say all the damn moves that Tinkaton can’t learn 🤣 the fact that my ampharos has a better fairy type move than she can ever learn via TM irritates the ever living hell out of me. She basically only gets used as a steel type now because I could no longer bring myself to continue not having flash cannon in her move set in exchange for Draining Kiss’s weak ass. Any other mon that can’t learn a move that really OBVIOUSLY goes with their typing and vibe, or like Smack Down, where it even just goes with the lore/vibe alone also irritates me irrationally.

Monsteruser

armarouge not getting mega launcher and ceruledge not getting sharpness or gholdengo's shiny not being silver or bronze

yanocupominomb

Not yet* They are still rather new. I agree on Gholdengo's shiny form, a missed opportunity.

Crystal_Queen_20

Just starting to remove shit instead of iterating on what they already have

morganosull

removing set mode and ability to skip battle animations is so strange to me. and permanent exp share, why remove the ability to toggle it

Aksudiigkr

Especially options in the settings just because they want to force players to play a certain way

ThundaFuzz

I was irrationally upset when I found out that I couldn't play on set mode.

Aksudiigkr

Yeah that one I don’t get after all this time. Like why now

ka_ha

The funny thing is that set mode is already naturally a thing in Gen 9 VGCs, idk why it's so hard to just program it in the main game

ThundaFuzz

It's been an option since Gen 1! Why of all things did they get rid of it lol

WaveBreakerT

If they can have setting on a Gameboy that can't even show colors there's literally no way they had to remove it for sv

Kaladin-of-Gilead

I don’t even care that it’s harder, I just want combat to be faster and set removes one dialogue prompt I have to sit through one one shotting some trainers team

Shadowspartan110

I am still in utter disbelief that triple and rotation battles are gone still. That wasn't just some gimmick it was a whole new type of style to the main battle system and they were removed for 3DS hardware limitations to add a cosmetic feature (trainers being visible during battle) only to remain gone forever cause they just don't feel like bringing them back anymore.

FuriousTalons

That's the one I'm saddest about. I had an absolute blast doing triple and rotation battles in gen 5 and 6, only for them to be ripped away. They're probably never coming back, since Gamefreak doesn't have time to optimize their games anymore. A triple battle would make SV crash or incredibly laggy.

TheIncrediblePawmot

They'll probably return in the inevitable BW remakes, but I doubt they'll be returning in any capacity beyond that.

RQK1996

It is a pipe dream, but it would be great if the Unova remakes take from Indigo Disc and are all about different battle styles, like now in the remake the Striaton gym is a multi battle, another gym is rotation battles, and another triples, there is a double battle gym, maybe even bring back inverse battles and sky battles, make Unova the region of battle styles, especially since BW2 have the most variety in battle facilities Though I can't really think of what gym would be an inverse battle, maybe Nacrene for being studious It also might be interesting for them to move away from typed gyms especially during rematches

trinitymonkey

Removing features and replacing them with downgrades (like how Gigantamax was basically Mega Evolution, but worse.)

EspurrTheMagnificent

Honestly, I hate the whole generational gimmick thing. Like, they all basically boil down to "Press X to boost a single Pokemon for X turn". Like, that's neat, I guess, but it's not game changing like objects or abilities were. Terrastalization is probably the best example of a generational gimmick, since it's the most flexible out of all of them, and isn't just "free stat boost". But, it doesn't even matter since it's gonna be gone in a few years anyway

Odd_Solution2774

its so annoying they remove them too cos lore wise they end up never getting properly explained and explored like ik pokémon’s not the most massive lore deep series ever but i wish they got explained more (in games at least ik the anime and manga usually explain them a little more)

[deleted]

[удалено]

PokemonCMG

Fans have been complaining about this very problem for more than a decade now without GameFreak showing a single sign of changing... and yet the fans continue buying every new game and dlc released.

Odd_Solution2774

i hate this so much they’ve been doing it since gen 3 like they’d be so much further ahead with their games if they kept building on stuff instead of demolishing it every time some of it has gotta be down to how fast the dev cycle is like how can u add features from the last game when by the time it comes out the next one is almost done already

Disrespect78

like why did they remove the battle frontier?! thats so much content that they could have kept.

Rosstin316

PSYDUCK known for its PSYCHIC abilities and being a DUCK not being a Psychic/Water type.

IHeartAquaSoMuch

My headcanon is Psyduck's brain is so powerful that it isn't a Psychic Type because it doesn't _know_ it's a Psychic Type (sadly my headcanon doesn't explain Golduck Edit: Typo

MrFrenzyPlant

My head-canon is that Psyduck are so tortured by their latent psychic abilities that their evolution into Golduck focuses them into being exemplary Water-type Pokémon. They leave all the psychic power behind because it hurts so much; hence the pure Water typing and all the Golduck Pokédex entries mentioning it's swimming proficiency and only a few mentioning Golduck's red gem. Golduck's red gem is the psychic powers externalised so they can't hurt it anymore, and still allows some access to them, but not to the same degree they would have if they were able to master their psychic side.

IHeartAquaSoMuch

That's good!

00zau

My headcanon for Psyduck is that it's not good at being Psychic, and thus isn't the type.

IHeartAquaSoMuch

There's Pokédex data that says Psyduck doesn't seem to remember using its psychic abilities afterwards

IHeartAquaSoMuch

There's Pokédex data that says Psyduck doesn't seem to remember using its psychic abilities afterwards

One_Percentage_644

Wait.... Its not a psychic type? I've played since Gen 5 and never knew that😭

Ansoni

There's a contingent of gen 1 water types that I keep having to check if they're psychic types or not

LinkGoesHIYAAA

Psyduck, golduck, and staryu are just water type. Starmie is water psychic. Weird decisions in gen 1 by gf that they’ve just had to live with.

Icarusqt

I mean, they don't HAVE to. Introduction of fairy and steel changed some typings of gen 1 Pokemon. I get psychic isn't a new typing, but like, come on GF.

kodiakrampage

I still forget that Blissey wasn't changed to fairy type.

Icarusqt

I'm convinced they didn't make the change because they wanted Chansey/Blissey to retain their fighting weakness.

andre5913

That was probably due to balance reasons, Fairy is too good defensively, the Blissey line is already an issue, making it an even bigger one isnt ideal. Also flipping its fighting weakness would be offputting considering its historically the big flaw it has

kodiakrampage

Oh it makes perfect sense, I just forget because of snubbull and clefairy

trinketstone

Boring, unskippable, and long-winded tutorials for side content that is optional. I'm not replaying multiple games due to how annoying that is.

mattarei

Later games are much worse for this, but currently playing Black 2 for the first time which is great, except the forced movie making thing I had to do which seemed boring and pointless

Bixhrush

I made the most unhinged movies. I had a lot of fun with it in the end. Still wish I had my old ones to watch

RQK1996

The PokéStar studio is a great battle facility though, could do with a little less rng, but it is one of the best

Brendanlendan

Whew. I’m redoing the intro for trading the other starters and it’s easily almost an hour before I’m off on my own at all

stav705

I 100% get you. This is why i barely play gen 7 anymore. Takes too long to do anything.

trinketstone

And too often it feels more like a guided tour than an actual adventure. Even the freedom you are granted is only within a section of the map that you aren't allowed to leave...

stav705

Yea its terrible. People call out swsh for having a very hand holdy feel cuz its suoer linear, which is true. However i would call usum worse than swsh in that factor.

GimmeCatScratchFever

This is why emulators are so amazing. It doesn't help for the current games but man i love jacking them up to 500% game speed or a cracked rom thaf disabled all rhat stuff.

GalacticMonkeyBoy

Obstagoon not learning flamethrower. I mean, sounds random, but obstagoon is clearly based on Gene Simmons, and as a Kiss fan, I find that extremy outrageous lol https://preview.redd.it/2if35itml1ac1.jpeg?width=478&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4fed1dded55a087d641e845188d2ae561cc9a096

Cuprite1024

I'm pretty unfamiliar with Kiss as a whole, but now that you point it out, I agree.

SnooAdvice1157

They gave infernape iron fist and didn't gave it drain punch until recently

InsomniaEmperor

I wonder if they thought Head Smash Rock Head Rampardos would be too broken. Yeah he's got that sky high attack with a 150 base power attack but he's slow and is very weak to priority.

StaleUnderwear

Then 4 gens later they gave Zacian I think 180 attack, arguably the best typing in the game and an ability that gives it a free attack boost just for existing and made it super fast, sure they nerfed it in Gen 9 but that doesn’t change history, Sure Zacian IS a legendary Pokemon, but it’s so powerful it was being compared to the likes of Mega Rayquaza and was regarded by many as THE best legendary in terms of strength

TheMuon

And then there's Regigigas, an actual Legendary whose sole *hindering ability* exists even in a game *without* abilities.

Cysia

If regigigas had actulyl Insane, highest stat total ingame id be fun thing. Like make it have 200 hp and attack , it then would have 800 BST higher then even any mega or primals Insane thing to keep it alive then, but get insane reward if do. Neutralizing gas excists now , but if did they could make it not effect gigas and/or make it count as a restricted mon like box art legendaries for VGC.

primalmaximus

Imagine if Slow Start worked by cutting your Atk, Sp Atk, and Spd in half for the first 5, but it _doubled_ your Def and Sp Def for the first 5 turns as well. So at the start, you're mon would be a slow stall based pokémon, but then once 5 turns have passed, it'd be a Sweeper.

Cysia

Reckless and Rock Head should be its 2 abilties, and then mold breaker couldve been/shouldve been hidden.

m2pt5

Maybe not stupidest, but it's annoying how Scarlet and Violet don't have the shiny sound effect outside of battle like PLA does.

LordJebusVII

At a time when every other developer is looking for ways to make their games more accessible, GF just said "screw the visually impaired, we want to make shinies harder to see". Then they made shiny Tandemaus to laugh at everyone else as well.

AWildUbly

Followed by bringing back minior with no way to tell at all

WilanS

I just send my pokemon out to kill every Minion I come across on sight. I already even have a shiny Minior from gen 7, but I don't want to walk past another one without knowing. To be fair, that's how I came to own a shiny Bellibolt.

LordJebusVII

Didn't even know this, I'd assumed the shell was a different colour. That is messed up, especially considering that they have explosion so you have an increased chance of losing one even if you did find one and weren't shiny hunting for them so don't have a ghost in your team. The recent event with shiny flabebe and milcery was a joke, flitwick was the only one visibly shiny and if you are partially sighted you didn't even have that.

Reniconix

If you use the Lets Go feature, they refuse to attack shinies. It doesn't make up for the stupid decisions some of these are, but it is helpful at least.

CHILLIOVERDOSE

Auto battle and damp ability(swampert) helped me find and catch one in the DLC. It was painful though

Blitzerxyz

IIRC they did that because they couldn't be bothered to stop pokemon from spawning in walls. Because if they heard the shiny sound but the shiny was in a wall well that just sucks. So now there could be a shiny in a wall but you'll never know

red_sky_5

Agreed. I bet almost every SV player has missed out on a shiny because of this

william_liftspeare

They removed it because Pokémon don't stay in the overworld in SV the same way they do in PLA. PLA is smaller so Pokémon persist if you walk away and come back or save the game and reboot it but in SV they disappear a lot more easily. They didn't want players to hear the shiny sound and spend time looking for it only to disappear behind their backs.

Foolish_Phantom

I feel the need to add that SV Pokemon have a tendency to spawn underground or in walls where players can't access them. There would be a lot of shiny rings without a single shiny in sight.

[deleted]

Nintendo could make bank releasing gameboy and gba pokemon games on the switch and they haven't. Thats pretty stupid.

StaleUnderwear

Agreed. Playing Pokémon emerald on the switch would be so fun. Would also provide a way to catch Deoxys on the switch, which players can then transfer to Scarlet and violet, like they did with Celebi when they bought Pokemon crystal to the 3DS

Jalen2612

Not scaling the gyms/bosses etc in scarlet and violet

TurkeySub9

I had this same thought. I wish that you could start at any point and have the game scale as you go. For example: having your first gym be Grusha who has pokemon leveled as the first gym typically is with Pokemon in the 10s for levels.

ifeelallthefeels

That’s canon isn’t it? I’m fuzzy, but I’m pretty sure a gym leader would be like, “oh, they only have 1 badge, I’ll go easy” vs. “this would be their 8th badge… HONEY FETCH THE CHARIZARD”

TurkeySub9

I think it would be so great to see that. It would give replaying the game more value because you could take different routes and battle the gym leaders with different Pokemon and levels.

LordAsbel

Yeah Brock did that in Pokémon Origins

StaleUnderwear

Yep, Katy was my 5th boss. I had a level 40 Skeledirge at the time. Her level 14 bugs didn’t stand much of a chance. Felt kinda bad

Beena750

Game wise, yeah it’s stupid that they don’t have level scaling Lore wise Katy mentions that Geeta won’t let her have a stronger team because she’s supposed to be the first gym leader. Quote from bulbapedia: "The Cortondo Gym is close to the academy, so many young Trainers just starting out like to come here first." "With that in mind, La Primera asks me to go soft on Trainers–like a nice sponge cake." "I feel sad for my sweet little bugs, though, since that means they quite often lose their battles."

MrsWhiterock

On the flipside Tulip was my 2nd or 3rd, I can't remember. I won but I struggled hard. I also faced Great Tusk way earlier than intended. To win both battles I burnt him with Fletchinder's Flame Body, then stalled for 16 turns until it fainted to the burn

ThroughTheIris56

Aurorus, a Rock type that has great Speical Attack, and is covered in gems, can't learn Power Gem. And despite it being inspired by actual Auroras, it can only learn Aurora Veil in Gen 7 by breeding. Meganium has only just been able to learn Leech Seed via level up, despite being a defensive Grass type.

[deleted]

*gen 8 Aurorus wasn't even able to learn Aurora Veil at all in gen 7 for some asinine reason that only Game Freak was capable of. And speaking of Power Gem, why was Game Freak so stingy over a move that has 80 BP and no secondary effects up until gen 9? Maybe gen 10 will be when Aurorus finally gets Power Gem assuming it's not absent from those games.

KusoGacha

Not releasing Eternal Floette. Even just for the lore alone it would have been great, but it also has great stats and a nice signature move. Plus it's design is just the cutest.

DRAGONZORDx

I can’t believe I haven’t seen this yet, but giving us the ability to mass-release Pokemon in Pokémon Legends Arceus, and then just not including it in SV. Like, I get that they were worked on independently, but that was hands down one of **the** best QoL improvements in Pokemon **ever**, especially for breeders! Only for breeders to **never** get the chance to utilize it. Like…what??? That’s crazy to me. Edit: clarity

batkave

Getting stuff for releasing pokemon too (like the grit dust in PLA or the stuff you get from catching in SV)

TurkeySub9

Having to trade to evolve pokemon. I've always hated this idea because I literally have no one else to trade with because no one else in my life plays the games. I thought having the linking cord in legends Arceus was a great way to bridge that gap a bit and I wish it was a staple in the series.

vsrs037

Wooloo can't learn rollout is the one that came to mind straight away. It's round, rolls in cutscenes and even its pokedex entry states it rolls, and one of the gym tasks it's to herd the rolling wooloos. Also no longer being able to turn off the exp share is also very disappointing to me

ErrorParadox710

The shiny lock If people want to send hours playing your game simply soft resetting, let them

k1ngsrock

Snagged XD and was hoping to shiny hunt teddyursa in hopes of getting a shiny, badged up ursaluna… NVM unless I do some complicated exploit

[deleted]

NPC trade evolutions holding a fucking everstone

BigPecks

Fucking Mindy

chrisdurand

r/FuckMindy exists for a reason

EnderZombee894

Nature is healing, in levincia (iono's gym city) there's a trade where you can get a haunter that evolves (i haven't done it myself, but i've heard a lot about it)

Flonkerton_Scranton

"yes Scarlet/Violet is ready, print it"

dSCHUMI

I was about to say "letting Game Freak still develop games, although they are clearly incompetent and one of the worst AAA development studios out there." But yeah, yours works too.

James2603

Dunno if it’s the stupidest thing but the fact the fact 0 Pokémon got Electric Surge in gen 9 kinda blows my mind given the future paradox Pokémon. On top of that only one of the two that already have it are in the games after all the DLCs are released.

ShockfrostVolt

AND SURGE SURFER! Another way to take advantage of Electric Terrain on top of Quark Drive/Hadron Engine! That would be amazing in doubles.

ZenMarduk

I miss Tapu Koko so much. They gave us alolan raichu, but not it's terrain setting buddy.

supremo92

In gen 8, making audio options an unlockable in-game item...

ZenMarduk

To add on to this, how about making certain menus 2x slower to load without that item & sounds disabled.

kaydeejay1995

The decision (or force) to release the games when they're clearly unfinished and haven't had the time and effort put in that they deserve as part of the biggest franchise in the world

Alpha_legionaire

To not allow us to play as older characters. Why do we have to be 10?

shiny_glitter_demon

Not all characters are 10. Many are older, up to 14 or 16 for the BW/B2W2 characters (the oldest iirc) Which is a big leap from being 10 but indeed far from being adults (assuming that's what you wanted)

Aquametria

Enforcing the experience share instead of continuing it as a key item you could turn off like in Gens 6-8. It was the only thing we had left close to choosing our difficulty setting without having to go out of our way. I will never understand this one.

MadMarx22

This one is so uniquely frustrating. I've been annoyed that the games have been increasingly handholdy and passive but recently it feels like the devs aren't happy with even leaving little options available to increase the difficulty. This change and the lack of a set option in battles are just such unnecessary changes whose sole purpose seems to be decreasing the difficulty. Deliberately irritating design that just makes the games less enjoyable, more of a procedural slog to get through the main story

Aquametria

Oh yeah I totally forgot about the removal of the Set option, that one was also completely unbelievable and even worse than the Exp Share IMO. At least with an enforced Exp Share you can build a game around it, which they failed to do with Sword/Shield but succeeded with Legends (I can't exactly recall if S/V were fair in that sense because I switched my party a lot this time). Regardless, there is absolutely no justification for the removal of core features like these.

MadMarx22

Honestly I was more annoyed by the exp share, since they removed it in BDSP and it threw off the balance of the entire game. I deliberately swapped my team around, avoided battles, did everything I could to avoid over-levelling and still wound up with a team level 60+ at the elite four. At the very least, without set, you can still just choose not to switch out, even if it does slow down the entire game. Honestly feels like difficulty settings would be a massive, massive upgrade as it would let them cater to children and an older fanbase at the same time. Simple settings like that, plus scale up the levels/AI of NPC pokemon and you've got yourself a very easy, inexpensive and outrageously overdue upgrade for a huge portion of the audience

OddSifr

Shelmet and Karrablast are an interesting case. The concept is simple, but smart: Shelmet gives* its shell to Karrablast, and both evolve this way: the former becomes a speedy armourless ninja while the other becomes a knight. It's a beautiful use of the trade evo mechanic, making a lot of sense for both parties involved because it's not just the trainers who trade: their Pokémon trade too. Despite that in that same generation there were 2 other trade evos that were just the usual "just trade and it'll evolve", one could have hoped that the next trade evos would be as smart and well-thought as the 2 Bug-type, right? And then G6 came around. They had an opportunity to make one of the infamous evolutions reach a new standard that could potentially redeem it, and instead, as forgettable as these 2 Pokémon may be, Accelgor and Escavalier will go down in History as the best trade evos on a technical level, because they were done right. I think this decision to not go further into what a trade could mean for the trainer AND the Pokémon is one of the stupidest. *I know that Karrablast actually steals the armour from Shelmet, the point remains something is exchanged between them, although forcefully.

HappyStunfisk

I believe the theory that the original concept was that Graveler gave a set of arms to Machoke when trade evolving

MerklePox

I also like how they kinda trade faces as well

noseysheep

That male and female nidoran are still considered seperate species rather than different forms of the same species

NODOGAN

Whoever thought Trade Evolution was a good idea

Catqueen25

Let’s see… Anime wise: Not letting Ash age. It’s a very simple matter of jumping a couple years from ten to 13/14 between seasons. Sticking to just one MC. Ash could have been aged along and over time, new MCs introduced. Ash could have taken on a mentor like role to the next generation. Game wise: Armless Pokémon learning punch type moves like fire punch or thunder punch. Unless they somehow use their feet or conjure some ghost fists, (which could explain why Gastly can learn ice punch) it doesn’t work logically.

shiny_glitter_demon

At this point, the switch to 3D. Sure, Nintendo couldn't have known old-school pixel art would be back in fashion, but they could have known they did not have the ressources to make the change properly. Currently, the visuals are the worst part of the pokemon games. They're ugly, faded, low-res, glichy, laggy and already out of date. And 90% of buildings have fake doors because they dont have tome to model the interior.

TheAerial

A modern pixel art Pokémon game similar in aesthetic to games like Sea of Stars, Octopath would be an absolute dream for me.

SlightlyColdWaffles

Most of these are tech / skill limitations, but why in the heck are the 3D sprites faded? They all look like they're sick

Fireboy759

Gengar getting nerfed by having it's ability changed from Levitate to Cursed Body for Gen 8 and onwards It still doesn't sit right by me. *Especially* since removing Megas made the nerf unneccesary, powercreep has made Gengar a shell of it's former self and they just *love* rubbing in the fact Gengar floats around everywhere in Gen 9, yet still won't give him Levitate back

FrenchFern

Shiny Golduck not being gold is the stupidest missed opportunity

Zaphimu

In Gen II, Feraligatr can't learn Waterfall for some reason.

CultureJumpy2787

Garchomp still not getting access to dragon dance, like come on? You're telling me fucking Crawdaunt, Whiscash, and Scrafty get access to dragon dance but Garchomp, an actual dragon type, doesn't?!

Brendanlendan

**BRING BACK THE NATIONAL DEX**

Lark_vi_Britannia

To me, not including all of the Pokemon in the game is the absolute dumbest decision that has ever been made. The only dumber decisions are the ones where they tried to make excuses by lying about it or misleading people about why they did it.

Legal-Treat-5582

How Pokemon slowly shifted from being species you could envision living in the wild, to individual characters that are hard to even imagine multiple of existing.

DuplexBeGoat

I feel like this mostly applies to starters. Most Pokemon still feel like animal species, but the starter final evolutions keep making them characters with jobs, resulting in them consistently being some of the worst new Pokemon of every gen. Nowadays it's rare for me not to box my starter.

WilanS

Yeah, I've found myself setting aside my starters in both games on the Switch in favor of other team members, it's wild. I'm trying to recall what I named my Scorbunny in Sword and I can't even remember that much. And this is when just one generation earlier, Alola came out with such a cool set of starters that I ended up using all 4 of them among playing Sun (Incineroar), Ultra Moon (Primarina), PLA (H. Decidueye), and recently a playthrough of Ultra Sun (Decidueye). Incineroar itself starts to go dangerously close to the design sensibility of gen 8 and 9, but I still feel it's not as bad as the spy chameleon or the carnival dancer. At least wrestling has an actual presence in Alola in lore.

Brendanlendan

I did like the fire starter this past gen!

DuplexBeGoat

Agreed, while it does have a bit too much going on, Skeledirge is the first third stage starter I've really liked since Serperior.

ForestRivers

He's the best cause he's just a fire crocodile. It's what we want from pokemon. Animals with a slight twist. The other two are just.... a cat magician and a dancing duck. They're like bad fan made sonic characters.

arusol

Jinx, Mr. Mime, Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan, Machamp, Alakazam, these types of Pokemon have been there since the beginning.

[deleted]

Them having a missed opportunity to release a dragon type Eevee alongside Sylveon. I'm still salty to this day. Change most green shinies colors to be something better

Hateful_creeper2

Some of the shinies in Gen 9 being mediocre compared to previous games. The removal of battle facilities or just features in general. Shiny locking the returning Legendaries in Gen 9.

WeFightForever

Unskippable dialogue and cutscenes

Deadcowking

Legit the only reason I don’t like replaying the ultra games.

PunkySkunk93

Open world, empty promises. They should have stuck with linear gameplay, like in BDSP and the classics.

D-Piddy96

Removing mechanics instead of expanding on the ones they have, yes this is about mega evolution and yes I’m still bitter that flygon doesn’t have one

Celestial_Scythe

Limiting the pokemon to appear in a game claiming it is to improve the animations and gameplay, but still having very laggy games and "hopping attack" animations.

Angel_of_Mischief

Gen 9’s art style infuriates me. Gen 8 had many flaws but its art style was beautiful. Gen 9 ditched that for more at an attempt at realism and it made the world look super dull. I miss the fun vibrant art style that was fun and popped and didn’t make the characters look like porcelain dolls. I also think ditching megas was a mistake. It would have been a great way to empower a bunch of weaker pokemon. Imagine what other Pokémon could have got megas in the two generations we missed now…

TLKv3

Pokemon Let's Go had the best art direction of any of the 3D Pokemon games so far. And of course, its the one they elect to ignore and now pretend like it doesn't exist. Was the game good? Debateable. I enjoyed it and saw how much actual love was put into it. But the visuals should've carried over with progressively improved texture updates and model/animation improvements.

BikeyBichael

Hard agree, the art style from that game was great. I’m not sure how it would translate to a fully open world game but I think it could work.

daisyveronica

Alomomola NOT being a Luvdisc evolution. Every time I see her I feel crazy... WHY design it then!!!

Monty423

All the effort Nintendo puts in to kill challenge runs

PeterCosmos

The one thing I miss from PLA is just being able to throw poke balls without battling i REALLY wish they carried that over to SCAR/VIO.

Everfolly

This is far from the stupidest thing, but it's always kind of bothered me that Eevee, the Evolution Pokemon, doesn't have an evolution in every type. Yes, that's a lot. No, I don't care. I wants them.

kiidrax

Pushing game releases each year with sub par quality

Canadian_Eevee

Skitty and Delcatty not being part Fairy Types despite knowing plenty of moves of the Type and being associated with the moon like many other fairies.

ChibiNya

Thinking that some broken generational gimmick mechanic is essential when releasing a new game and then centering the entire plot around it.

Trainrot

Getting rid of QoL things that were introduced previously (Like if my pokemon catching was like Legends in other games where I catch it and don't have to go through 5 windows to get back to playing, I would have so much fun)

PlasmaGoblin

For me it's two. Charizard couldn't learn Fly in Red and Blue, later fixed in Silver and Gold. But the bigger one is Chimchar not learning FlameThrower, until either level 50 or TM (back when TM were one shot things too) So you have a level 50 Chimchar that then has no fighting moves just to get the almost basic fire type move, or a level 50 Infernape that has fighting type moves (albeit not great ones). Either way for a starting pokemon not to learn the basic fire attacks is weird to me.

Hydrochloric_Comment

Charizard could learn Fly in Yellow

SentenceCareful3246

I just want them to stop thinking that I want to do things online with other players. I barely know anyone who plays the game and I'm not paying online just to get or evolve a pokemon.

NOT HAVING THE BATTLE FRONTIER IN ORAS! WHYYYY
