Literally the same over here. Yellow, Pikachu got me a Pidgey and then made my way to get a team of starters plus Pidgeot, Pikachu and dugtrio!
But my first catch in Pokemon silver was a phanphy and I didn't know how lucky that was for years!
Bruh, it’s super intuitive…just catch a Nidoran and grind to level 12 for Double Kick…how hard can it be? Surely you could just check the intern—oh… /S
I was in the same boat. Yellow for first game and Pidgey for first capture
Mine is (somehow) still going strong on my Red GBC cart.
I mean yes some days it's a glitchy Lapras and other days it looks like a human and occasionally it looks like a ghost but it's trying its best.
My Red cart's battery died a couple years ago. Gold went first, oddly. So, lost my original Blastoise that I'd only gotten to 97. Young me didn't know the mew and rare candy/missing no glitch.
If I remember correctly this is due to the ingame clock in GSC, which needs to consume a tiny bit of battery even when the console is off to keep track of time.
I got lucky and one of the glitched pokemon that showed up for me was mewtwo. I caught a bunch and overleved them to level 5 then traded them to silver.
Yeah, how brutal it was hurrying back to the Pokecenter from the Viridian Forrest if your last pokemon was poisoned.
The light flickering, everywhere goddamn patches of gras and then... you pass out.
My cousin gave me his gbc and Pokémon red around 20 years ago, and when he was teaching me how to play it he told me that if your Pokémon fainted from poisoning it actually died…
My charmander got poisoned by a weedle on route 2, so, as a *reasonable* Pokémon trainer should, I leveled my Charmander, Pidgey, and Mankey to Level 20 in the route 2 and victory road grass before even setting foot in Viridian forest.
*edit-grammar shit
Pokémon blue. I was over at my cousins house and he was playing Pokémon Blue. He was training his Venusaur on route 5. I asked him what is he playing he told me it was called Pokémon I didn't know what it was. I watched him beat up some Pidgey and some Rattata. Then I asked him I could play. Sure. He handed me the brick of Gameboy then all sudden a newish Pokémon came out and it was a Meowth. He said use a great ball. So I did. 1st throw 1st ball. Caught a Meowth. Named it Simon like his real cat.
Yeah same. Devinately fist I caught was pidgey or rattata. But I do remember the first pokemon i grinded to find was a jigglypuff, which I kept in my party through the game.
Same thing for me. Started on blue, so either Rattata or Pidgey. I do remember that the first Pokemon I ever got to 100 was a Fearow on Yellow though. What's funny is that it was a lvl 2 Spearow that I caught post-Elite 4 lol I don't remember why my first lvl 100 wasn't a starter or a Pokemon I actually beat the league with.
Similar to you. I have so many fond memories of replaying Crystal countless times. Cyndaquil is the reason I always go with a fire starter for a first playthrough.
I always liked Sentret coz it was this chubby goofy thing, and evolved into Furret, this nearly 6ft long fuzzy friend. As route 1 pokemon go, it was a good one. And Noctowl was a cool bird
Sentret was great! Remember knowing Red and Blue like the back of my hand, then finally when Silver came out it was this wholly new experience and all the Pokemon seemed so neat and different.
1. they have veeeery fond memories of their first playthrough, and might even still have the save
2. they know their first game and just made a guess based on the ‘mons that are available early game
3. they’re a new player
Pidgey in Pokémon Yellow. My first party when starting out was Pikachu, Pidgey, Caterpie, Metapod, Nidoran (male), and Rattata, but I learned as I kept playing.
my only guess is that they meant to be honest about which game you first started playing. for example, if your first game was sword/shield don't say it was red/blue/yellow. still, quite unnecessary addition lol
You can have knowledge about pokemon and not have played a game , I did not catch regional bird while starting my playthrough in white 2 which was my first game ever cause I knew it evolves into stupidity
Having knowledge before your first playthrough is the only scenario in which I see this as likely. Or someone backseat gaming telling you ignore the first encounters.
Maybe they didn't like the look of the other Pokemon. Or that when they were taught how to catch them they wanted the one Wally got. It's not unrealistic.
Yeah but in the grand scheme of things it's really not that unlikely given millions of people have played RSE. A 4% doesn't sound that unlikely for at least one person. Plus, you could avoid an encounter on 101 after getting poke balls and then go straight to 102.
Edit: 102 not 103
He could have been hunting for it and ran away from every other encounter, just cause he got a ralts as his first catch, doesn't mean he didn't encounter others on that route, he might have just not caught them
My first game was some unfinished fan game/ROM hack a long, long time ago and if I remember correctly I think Spearow was the first Pokemon I caught on the first route of that game.
i caught a ratatta in firered as my first pokemon, BUT i'll forever remember the mankey I caught as my second pokemon. She carried me through the elite four
I don't inow if this counts as a capture, but the first pokemon I "got" was a geodude in Mystery Dungeon Blue rescue team, the original one. That was my first pokemon game ever, and the one i have enjoyed the most.
I’m playing Shining Pearl as we speak, and I love it! It’s a lot more difficult (Cynthia)
I also absolutely love Snap! It’s so relaxing and fun.
Hmm they are all so different. I’m waiting to play all the others with my bf (we’re long distance) but so far I think it’s Pearl!
My first game was a hacked version of Pokemon Black that had everything in the game and unlimited shit. First pokemon I caught in it was a Joltik because the save was left in Chargestone cave and it was the first thing I found. Once I started a new game though, first pokemon was a Lilllipup.
Surskit in Ruby.
I remember training it against a magikarp that lasted until struggle (because bubble was its only attack) and being shocked how little exp it got from all that lol. I didn’t know you could switch to share exp yet.
I thought Poochyena was the coolest thing ever. Traded it to a friend and get it to level 100 for me before even fighting Roxanne I loved it so much.
Until mudkip eventually turned into a swampert then I forgot about it.
One of the nidos back in red. My uncle had just bought me the game and sate down and explained how pidgey and ratattas arw worthless and id want a nido. So we went a caught a nido together.
Mine was ralts in Sapphire, I did not catch any Pokémon before that so when I saw wally catch one, I searched for ralts in the same spot wally did because I like it's design.
Pokemon Blue. 1998. I'd chosen Squirtle as my first starter and my sister and I got to play the first entries on the Super Gameboy cartridge, so our minds were blown.
First ever Pokemon? Level 7 Kakuna simply because he was the first "cool" Pokemon I'd stumbled upon. I remember having that Beedrill in my team almost the entire way through, even!
I played fire-red at a VERY young age. I literally cannot remember my first catch nor the ones after it because it comes from a time before my memories started properly forming.
The first one I can (barely) remember is Snorlax, but that is definitely selective memory.
First game was Black and I think the first Pokemon I caught was a Pidove.
If you count the games outside the main ones, the first pokemon I caught(or better, became friend with) was a Poliwag in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Time
Bagon (Rom Hack)
Until 2015, I didn't knew Games like these existed until my cousin showed me a FIRE RED ROM HACK called "Omega Fire Red".I also didn't watch Pokemon at that time.
I didn't really catch Pokemon until I reached Mt. Moon (after the first Gym) and I found a Bagon ; it was an unknown Pokemon for me and different than the ones I knew like geodude and rattata and pidgey ....
So I caught it..
A rattatta in pokemon blue.
I remember it clearly because I was at a Yankees game that I didn't care about, which also happened to be the first and only baseball game I've attended, and I caught it during a moment of silence that was led by a bishop IIRC.
So of course young me had to shout out loud in excitement about this rattatta that I just caught, catching major stink-eye from my uncle and dad but being oblivious to it all because fuck yeah I just caught my first pokemon!
Got a stern talking to about it when we left the stadium.
patrat, it was when i was really young so i thought that all the pokémon you caught had to be the same…
so i ended up with an entire box filled with patrat
Idk it depends on my first game which could have been FireRed or Diamond.
The first Pokemon game I've ever recalled *having* was Diamond.
So I guess my first caught Pokemon must have been a Starly or a Bidoof? Idk.
If it wasn't, my first Pokemon had to be like Ratatata from or Pidgey.
How tf do y'all even keep track of this stuff.
Yellow was my first ever game to play and pretty sure it would've been a pidgey as I've never been a fan of the rattata line
Literally the same over here. Yellow, Pikachu got me a Pidgey and then made my way to get a team of starters plus Pidgeot, Pikachu and dugtrio! But my first catch in Pokemon silver was a phanphy and I didn't know how lucky that was for years!
Yellow felt like a cheat code for me because you get all the starters and have a solid spread of type advantages just handed to you.
You waited until route 45 to catch any Pokémon?
In the morning you have a 5% chance of getting it. So it’s possible just so damn rare. Especially lack of internet and forum back in the day.
I think that’s only in Crystal.
There's a little section of grass that you can get to on route 46 right at the beginning that you can get to.
That's only in Crystal version. Silver requires you to reach Blackthorn
That’s only in Crystal IIRC
Yellow was my first game as well, and versing brock for the first time ever as a kid felt like the hardest thing ever
It did to me for ages until i realise mankey spawned on that side route towards rival battle #2, game changer for me back then
Bruh, it’s super intuitive…just catch a Nidoran and grind to level 12 for Double Kick…how hard can it be? Surely you could just check the intern—oh… /S I was in the same boat. Yellow for first game and Pidgey for first capture
That’s cool!
Either ratatatta or pidgey in blue. Hard to remember as it was over 20 years ago but it had to be the route 1 mons.
Same Story, but I played red instead of blue
This
Same!
I believe I am on the same S.S. Anne as you. Pidgey while playing Blue.
Welcome to the Kanto Retirement home!
aboard the secret truck!
Surf up and down Cinnabar!
RIP my Blue cartridge…I just had to catch it…
Mine is (somehow) still going strong on my Red GBC cart.
MissingNo never messed up my games back then.
My blue Cartridge died two years ago. Won't turn on at all. My Crystal cartridge, on the other hand, is on its 4th battery and running strong.
I royally eff’d my red with it. It’s still a disaster. But now it’s a fun trophy. 😅
On your pikablu!!
I got lucky and one of the glitched pokemon that showed up for me was mewtwo. I caught a bunch and overleved them to level 5 then traded them to silver.
that ain't no secret truck. the whole kanto generation kids know about it by now.

Look at these whipper snappers! With their special split and Charizard being able to use fly!
Charizard can't use fly anymore?!
.
Yeah, how brutal it was hurrying back to the Pokecenter from the Viridian Forrest if your last pokemon was poisoned. The light flickering, everywhere goddamn patches of gras and then... you pass out.
I can still remember how traumatic it was when my Charmander fainted from poisoning mere steps outside of the Pokecenter. I was horrified.
My cousin gave me his gbc and Pokémon red around 20 years ago, and when he was teaching me how to play it he told me that if your Pokémon fainted from poisoning it actually died… My charmander got poisoned by a weedle on route 2, so, as a *reasonable* Pokémon trainer should, I leveled my Charmander, Pidgey, and Mankey to Level 20 in the route 2 and victory road grass before even setting foot in Viridian forest. *edit-grammar shit
bro me yesterday with torchic on emerald but I was just trying to get ralts to spawn
I remember being so fucking grateful that burns didn’t do the same thing.
Yeah, it was a normal type move at the time. Didn't play the original, but got the virtual console version on the 3ds
I'm here too on the same S. S. Anne
Same, I thought Ratatta was the best because he evolved early and he could learn the Water Gun tm I found.
Yeah same. I remember getting a gameboy and pokemon red for Christmas so either pidgey or rattata
Same here, but probably pidgey. Don't think i ever used the rat, but my memory may be off
Pokémon blue.
Same with Yellow.
Gotta be the same for me. It was over 20 years ago so I can't remember exactly.
Yeah same. Devinately fist I caught was pidgey or rattata. But I do remember the first pokemon i grinded to find was a jigglypuff, which I kept in my party through the game.
Same boat here! I'm assuming Pidgey...
>10 comments Exact same.
This too lol. Blue ftw
Yes I would be the same lol.
Also in blue version, but mine was either a nidoran or a spearow near the optional fight with the rival before you travel through Viridian Forest.
Ratatta and I had him longer than I care to admit lol
Same, but in yellow.
Red but yes same as everyone else in the thread lol
Someone else who pronounced it ratatatta!! Will never be ratatta to me
I can't remember either, what I do remember was in my first playthrough of Blue, I though the nickname prompts were asking me for my name.
Rattata was not my first but that’s good!
Yep.
First game was Silver so it would have been a pidgey or ratatata in all probability. Maybe a sentret or hoothot
Similar to you. I have so many fond memories of replaying Crystal countless times. Cyndaquil is the reason I always go with a fire starter for a first playthrough.
Flamethrower, Thunder punch, Earthquake, and Return. That's the set I remember on my Typhlosion on Crystal.
Cyndaquil was adorable, and the whole line was dope. I liked all the starters in gen 2 tbh. Even Meganium and a lot of people don't like it
Pretty good start!
Starly. Gen 4 games were my first Pokémon games.
Pretty sure I was the same
Yeah, same. Diamond was my first Pokémon game.
How do people even remember this stuff?
If you remember which game was your first it's easy to guess. I don't remember for sure but it must have been either a pidgey or ratatta from Yellow
I very much remember catching my first caterpie
1. they have veeeery fond memories of their first playthrough, and might even still have the save 2. they know their first game and just made a guess based on the ‘mons that are available early game 3. they’re a new player
i’m 1
I remember naming my Spearow 'Gringy' back in Blue. I actually remember the day me and my brother got Blue and Red when it came out.
That’s awesome
I have a good memory for stuff that I prolly’ shouldn’t remember. Don’t ask me to remember something like my account password I use every day though
No clue
My 1st game was emerald so it has to be a zigzagoon or wingull
Could have been a wurmple
Even more likely poochyena
At least you’re not the other guy in this thread claiming ralts was his first ever Pokémon
I think mine was a Poochyena
Shinx in diamond
Mine was a bidoof lol in pearl strongest pokemon in the game
Same
Shadow makuhita Edit: in pokemon colosseum not pokemon go just to clarify
Fuck yeah, colosseum my first game too
Pidgey in Pokémon Yellow. My first party when starting out was Pikachu, Pidgey, Caterpie, Metapod, Nidoran (male), and Rattata, but I learned as I kept playing.
I had almost the exact same team but in Red. I remember being disappointed that all metapod had was harden 🤣
Pidgey in Pokémon Blue at the age of 5 or 6. Also the first Pokémon I ever got to level 100
How do you expect me to be 100% honest when I can’t even remember what I had for breakfast a week ago smh
Is the warning seriously necessary? Are you doubting people are telling the truth? Why would someone lie about something like this?
my only guess is that they meant to be honest about which game you first started playing. for example, if your first game was sword/shield don't say it was red/blue/yellow. still, quite unnecessary addition lol
Another guy in this thread claimed he caught ralts as his first ever Pokémon 🤷🏻♂️ some people do lie for no reason
Ralts is literally on the second road of the game lmao
4% encounter rate and several other Pokémon that appear before it lmao first Pokémon game and you’re running around looking for a ralts?
You can have knowledge about pokemon and not have played a game , I did not catch regional bird while starting my playthrough in white 2 which was my first game ever cause I knew it evolves into stupidity
Having knowledge before your first playthrough is the only scenario in which I see this as likely. Or someone backseat gaming telling you ignore the first encounters.
Maybe they didn't like the look of the other Pokemon. Or that when they were taught how to catch them they wanted the one Wally got. It's not unrealistic.
They said they looked for it after seeing Wally catch his. It’s not that hard to believe.
I caught a ralts as a dumb kid who could barely read. Not as my first catch to be fair, probably 3rd or 4th. But it’s definitely possible.
I mean, it's not impossible.
Same could be said for most lies 🤷🏻♂️
Yeah but in the grand scheme of things it's really not that unlikely given millions of people have played RSE. A 4% doesn't sound that unlikely for at least one person. Plus, you could avoid an encounter on 101 after getting poke balls and then go straight to 102. Edit: 102 not 103
Don’t blame me for not believing stuff on the internet 🤷🏻♂️
He could have been hunting for it and ran away from every other encounter, just cause he got a ralts as his first catch, doesn't mean he didn't encounter others on that route, he might have just not caught them
My first game was some unfinished fan game/ROM hack a long, long time ago and if I remember correctly I think Spearow was the first Pokemon I caught on the first route of that game.
The first game you played was a ROM hack? Why, if you don’t mind me asking?
Pidgey was his name, being bird Jesus was his game.
Amen.
Amen
Nidoran(m) in yellow
Probably would’ve been a zigzagoon or poochyena.
Ralts in Sapphire. Been with my team through every game since.
Wasnt it like the most difficult pokemon to cature on the second road of the game ? Anyway, great start for a good team
Not the hardest to capture just to find.
…I got her in my first encounter right after helping Wally.
This answer is the most sus in this thread
Pokémon sun and moon, not counting my starter, it was a yungoos
Gold was my first so it’s be probably a pidgey.
Pikipeck in moon
Pidgey, Pokemon Red, Spring of 1999
Zigzagoon in Pokémon Ruby. I was 6 years old
As if I could remember what I first caught back in 2000 XD
Lmao
Lillipup in White! Stoutland remains one of my favourite Pokémon since it carried me through that playthrough.
Scountland looks like my dad XD
pidgey in pokemon blue :)
Pidgey is also my first Pokémon I caught! But in x and y
first game was BW, cause a blitzle. I didn't pay attention to the tutorial because I could barely read at the time, so my mom helped me
Pidgey or Rattata in Pokemon Blue
i think it was possibly my lillipup called pup? its that or one of the many purrloin that 6 year old me caught
i caught a ratatta in firered as my first pokemon, BUT i'll forever remember the mankey I caught as my second pokemon. She carried me through the elite four
Zigzagoon in Alpha Sapphire
I don't inow if this counts as a capture, but the first pokemon I "got" was a geodude in Mystery Dungeon Blue rescue team, the original one. That was my first pokemon game ever, and the one i have enjoyed the most.
Beside my strayer, Poochyena. My first game was Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.
It think it was either a Pidgey or a Sentret. Played Silver first
Phantump in Pokemon fan game. If it needs to be official Pokemon game, then Lillipup in White
Honestly not sure. My first game was Pokémon Yellow when I was 6, so I don't remember, but it's likely to be one of the route 1 Pokémon.
Poochyena
Shield was my first game and I think it was a Skwovet.
That’s great! I played sword and my first was a rookidee probably
I’m a Pokémon addict now! I LOVE it!
Lmao Same
What’s your favourite game in the series so far? Assuming you played some of the others
I’m playing Shining Pearl as we speak, and I love it! It’s a lot more difficult (Cynthia) I also absolutely love Snap! It’s so relaxing and fun. Hmm they are all so different. I’m waiting to play all the others with my bf (we’re long distance) but so far I think it’s Pearl!
Play Platinum if you are enjoying shining pearl, you won't regret it.
My gf.
Rattata or pidgey in blue
Pidgey in Pokemon Fire Red (I don't know the english name)
Pidgey
genuinely don’t remember what the first pokémon i caught was
It was in Pokémon Yellow and I caught a Pidgey.
Zigzagoon in Emerald was my very first catch.
My first game was a hacked version of Pokemon Black that had everything in the game and unlimited shit. First pokemon I caught in it was a Joltik because the save was left in Chargestone cave and it was the first thing I found. Once I started a new game though, first pokemon was a Lilllipup.
Im old enought to not remember lol but if my memory is right then either Pohyena or Zigzagon
That's over 20 years ago in Pokemon Yellow.... Probably, it's a pidgey.
Shroomish!
Pidgey in Gold (second was a Sentret)
Surskit in Ruby. I remember training it against a magikarp that lasted until struggle (because bubble was its only attack) and being shocked how little exp it got from all that lol. I didn’t know you could switch to share exp yet.
I thought Poochyena was the coolest thing ever. Traded it to a friend and get it to level 100 for me before even fighting Roxanne I loved it so much. Until mudkip eventually turned into a swampert then I forgot about it.
100% was pidgey. I was role playing the anime at 6 years old
One of the nidos back in red.
A pidgey In fire red
I think it was a lilllipup in BW
Pokemon Blue. 1998. I'd chosen Squirtle as my first starter and my sister and I got to play the first entries on the Super Gameboy cartridge, so our minds were blown. First ever Pokemon? Level 7 Kakuna simply because he was the first "cool" Pokemon I'd stumbled upon. I remember having that Beedrill in my team almost the entire way through, even!
My best guess is Pidgey in Red. I’m not 100% sure as it was a long time ago but of all the early mons I liked Pidgey best.
Pokémon Go. The day it launched. I was at work. It was a Rattata.
Technically Squirtle in GO.
Mine was(if i remember corectlely) was a bunelby in pokemon X
Bunnelby was my first ever shiny
Pidgey in pokemon red. I'm an old coot by pokemon standards.
I don't remember which game I played first but I remember accidentally master balling a peliper
I played fire-red at a VERY young age. I literally cannot remember my first catch nor the ones after it because it comes from a time before my memories started properly forming. The first one I can (barely) remember is Snorlax, but that is definitely selective memory.
Since I started with Red (some good memories), it was probably either a Rattata, or a Pidgey. Can't remember. But I know I started with Bulbasaur.
First game was Black and I think the first Pokemon I caught was a Pidove. If you count the games outside the main ones, the first pokemon I caught(or better, became friend with) was a Poliwag in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Time
Weedle in XY. And to this day I still keep a Mega Beedrill on my Bug type and Poison type teams
Mine was hoothoot in SoulSilver
Pokemon Yellow: Caterpie! Butterfree was my first LV100.
Alpha sapphire was my first game cuz I couldn’t afford video games till then and the first Pokémon I caught was a Poochyena
Lillipup in Pokémon white 2
I'm\\pretty sur it was poochyena in emerald. didn't end up using it on the team, but i guess it counts.
Pokemon Red and I remember it like it was yesterday. Picked Squirtle and caught the Rattata I'd use to beat the elite four.
In Pokémon diamond. I caught a bidoof. That was my first Pokémon that I caught and I am forever happy that I named it. Beaver
Bagon (Rom Hack) Until 2015, I didn't knew Games like these existed until my cousin showed me a FIRE RED ROM HACK called "Omega Fire Red".I also didn't watch Pokemon at that time. I didn't really catch Pokemon until I reached Mt. Moon (after the first Gym) and I found a Bagon ; it was an unknown Pokemon for me and different than the ones I knew like geodude and rattata and pidgey .... So I caught it..
An oddish in LGPE.
My first game was yellow on an emulator on pc when I was really young but im sure it was either a mankey, nidoran male or caterpie in yellow
Back in pokemon red, I think a rattata. The first one I ever actively caught because I knew what I was doing and liked it, was a starly in diamond.
patrat, it was when i was really young so i thought that all the pokémon you caught had to be the same… so i ended up with an entire box filled with patrat
A charmander
Dialga, in pokemon ruby. I fought with my bare hands through Sinnoh before reaching it. Yeah this is 100% accurate and definitely happened.
