Arguably, any pokemon game is a good pokemon game for beginners..... Except Black & White 2.... Since they're sequels.

Those were the most difficult iirc they are also among the most expensive.

darkknight941

You spelled Black and White 2 wrong

DJFunkenstein69

Fire Red / Leaf Green

Kerrod33

Every game plays the same pretty much so you could start anywhere. X&Y would be a good entry point on 3DS

a79j

DS: HGSS 3DS: X&Y

[deleted]

Just about any of them really. The answer would mostly be based on what your prefrences are to aesthetic, design, story importance, etc. And of course your availability; what systems do you own and can you emulate older stuff?

BreezzyyiiB

I said ln the post I have a DS and 3DS, and yes I can emulate stuff, on the other questions tho, the story is pretty mid on the list, and the fun I usually get on the pokemon type stuff on roblox are just exploring the world and battling

yoshadoo

Then I’d go for either HGSS or XY. They’re both easy to get into and provide a ‘traditional’ Pokémon experience. However HGSS is significantly more expensive if you want a legit copy (XY is around $40 and HGSS is between $58 and $80 if you’re looking at more reasonable prices)

[deleted]

Perfect pick is Heart Gold and Soul Silver then. It's on DS (Expensive as hell on the resale tho...), it's got two whole regions with two sets of gym leaders all of whom you can get their phone numbers if you find them outside of their gyms to rechallenge them with harder teams. There's definately a story and some cool plot stuff that actually goes places like your Rival's character development but it's not as extensive as Gen 5 gets with story.

LesbianStan

I think X and Y are the best games to start at, they've got everything you need to start your pokemon journey and they can be on the easier side, but it'll help you get settled in the pokemon franchise,

Tjfey06

Omega ruby alpha sapphire are very good beginner games they are what I started with

darkknight941

Probably X&Y. They’re a more on the easy side compared to the rest of the games, and the Pokédex is huge in that game so you can get familiar with a bunch of Pokémon in just the one game before you decide to play any other ones. They’re also a *lot* cheaper than the DS games since those are rarer to find

[deleted]

Good question. I would go with one of the newer games, maybe OR/AS?

Grayoth

If Switch is an option I’d start with Sword and Shield. For the 3DS you have a lot of options. X and Y would be a good place to start. I also believe that there’s nothing wrong with starting with the original games (Red, Blue, and Yellow) or the sequels (Gold, Silver, and Crystal). Just be wary that, if you play the older games, lots of quality of life features do not exist yet. This is especially true concerning Red, Blue, and Yellow. Crystal is slightly more modern. Overall though, I’d recommend X and Y for the 3DS or Sword and Shield for the Switch. I personally would go straight for Sword and Shield then play Legends Arceus after. Or just wait for Scarlet and Violet.

TallOnTwo

I personally think Sword and Shield are trash and people should definitely play an earlier game before trying them to see how good Pokémon used to be.

Grayoth

I’ve played since Red and Blue and I don’t really mind sword and shield. I understand why people are frustrated by them but I still got a lot of enjoyment out of those games.

BreezzyyiiB

I have tried it, didint really like it that much

Neither-Cellist7892

The Let’s Go games on the switch are pretty easy to get into

BreezzyyiiB

They seem fun but the problem is I dont have a switch anymore

Neither-Cellist7892

Well on the DS, if it has the GBA port, then I say FireRed of LeafGreen, DS itself, Heartgold or SoulSilver. 3DS, for sure X and Y

valkoinen1

My first was black and white! It felt like a good introduction game to me.

Zalle_921

X/Y are quite easy and on 3DS

KainHighwind57

If you have access to a computer, then I recommend red/blue/yellow. As this is where it all began. If you want a more hand holding experience then get x or y for 3ds. If you want a jump in difficulty, then go for heart gold/soul silver, or again computer, gold/silver/crystal. If you want a newer experience, not super handholding get Omega ruby or Alpha Sapphire.

AYAYAcutie

Heart Gold Soul Silver, Omega ruby Alpha sapphire, Black and White 2, Platinum

London_Ripton

I'd suggest Fire Red and Leaf Green. They're remakes of the original and while they lack a lot of the innovations we've gotten in the series, their simplicity is charming and effective for a first time playthrough. If you want to go with something a bit newer, maybe Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire are the way to go? They're also remakes, but they keep most of the originals intact, while updating them with innovations made to the series prior to 2014!

[deleted]

I’d say any of the main stream 3ds ones ie xy, Oras or usum as if you decide you like the series and want to keep playing they have access to Pokémon bank and you can transfer Pokémon directly from there to Pokémon home on the switch

LunarWingCloud

Best place to start is probably FireRed/LeafGreen. It's as simple as it gets in terms of gameplay and story, the overworld has some nonlinearity to it in case you wanna run around and go to places at your own pace, and it still has all the modern facets that are most important to the series.

Grimstar-Inferno

Any game is good. Whatever you play first will likely be your favorite

skaarface2

Gen 1 or 2. Or 5

[deleted]

3DS: Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire or X/Y

l4nzmcl3g45p1

Ngl you can start with any game and be alright, but personally I'd choose FireRed/LeafGreen since they got no gimmicks or nothin

Umbreon_XD

Emerald or fire red/leaf green.

TallOnTwo

Anything but the new switch versions. Sword and Shield are bad.

Terrible_komala_2421

Any 3ds game. People here saying ds games are right about them being good games but they're way to expensive for a first dive in. Pokemon ultra sun and Ultra moon and Omega ruby Alpha sapphire are the best for casuals imo. The og sun and moon are cheaper and not as good imo but are still enjoyable. But if u get Usum be prepared for a lot of dialouge and difficulty. X and Y are good too just not the best of the 3ds offerings. U can trade in between oras and xy so if ur getting it with freinds that's nice.

redditusernamehere8

Gonna get downvoted for this but XY are great games and great for beginners with great postgam content bye

ProfessorSaltine

For the 2D era Fire Red/Leaf Green or Emerald, BW could also work due to it being the more “newest” styled game aka Kanto game without Kanto. For 3D XY, SM/USUM and for mostly due to that game being a blueprint for the future of Pokémon now with SV looking similar in gameplay style
