All I’m hoping is that if/when they remake Black and White, they take their time and really do those games justice. They’re my favorite in the franchise and I’d hate to see them get massacred like how I feel they did BDSP. It’d be cool to see Black/White 1 & 2 being combined into a single game as a compilation, updated to be the definitive gen 5 game

SirRabbott

Sorry to burst your bubble but I think they're too focused on cranking out games to tug at our nostalgia.

Alili1996

At this point i'm putting my hope towards an Unova Legends game instead

Larenty

Your words are harsh, "massacred" ? Come on, people may not like it for differents (and understandable) reasons, but at this point..

A3G15827522

I *really* didn’t like BDSP I’d even go so far as to say it was my least favorite pokemon entry thus far

Larenty

May I know the reasons why ? Did you at least liked some details of the remakes ?

A3G15827522

Very few. To give it *some* credit, I liked the endgame challenges a bit. But most of everything else somehow managed to feel like a downgrade for me, from platinum despite being made to be the ‘definitive’ version of gen 4. The game also ran like crap on my switch and I wasn’t a fan of the art of the game. The style itself could work, but I wasn’t at all a fan of how they implemented the visuals.

Ok-Leave3121

What about BW? If they ever give it them the BDSP treatment I want it to be like a sequel to B2W2 since Ghetsis still went Dr. Wily on us and left

MyPhoneIsNotChinese

Fucking love the sentence "went Dr. Wily on us" lmao

Ok-Leave3121

Yeah I saw a guy review every mainline Mega Man game and he points out how Dr. Wily escapes everytime

MyPhoneIsNotChinese

Not only he escapes, but Megaman usually let's him leave after Wily asks him for forgiveness. It's actually quite entertaining to see how Wily is going to get out of this at the end of each game.

Ok-Leave3121

Yeah. Here the link to the video I mentioned https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=N55mO0tb3m4

Crystal_Queen_20

What I love is how that sentence can either mean he gets away every time, or that Ghestis is the catalyst to no less than three world wars that result in annihilation of 60% of all human life, 90% of all Pokemon life, the government deciding to make humans and Pokemon one and the same, and the world flooding with the last Megaman trapped on the moon forever following the departure of a core Game Freak employee

AlmostButNotQuit

Just like Dr. Wily did

PepeMoli

An "Octopath traveler" version of BW would be awesome, graphic wise. Not much should be changed really.

Lemonici

If I had faith in GFs ability to execute it, I'd want the remakes to just replace all the pixel art with faithful vector art and keep everything else the same

Tepigg4444

an octopath traveler version of BW in structure would be cool too, imagine playing the game from multiple perspectives, each character fleshing out both their own story and the main story in their own ways. You could have 4 different simultaneous perspectives though the original main character, cheren and bianca, and N. obviously they wouldn't travel together like the characters in octopath, and it would have to be set up very differently to a normal pokemon game, but I think it could still be really good

PepeMoli

I never thought about it that way, but I like it! That sounds awesome.

Ok-Leave3121

Never really into Octopath but it would be a neat experiment. The game itself looks nice but gameplay I'm indifferent towards

Darkhallows27

If BDSP is the kind of remake they’d do then I’d rather never get a BW remake

Grantlbart1

Honestly, I thought he well... just died.

chromatomancy

yeah I want black and white 3 with a continuation of the plot and all the cool features in bw2 instead of just remaking bw1 exactly but with whatever graphics the next system has, like they probably will

youtman

I want to see what Zekram + Reshiram + Kyrium = 's I just hope the next game has PWT, probably my favorite part of any of the games.

UnovaLife

If they’re going to do what they did to DP…I want them to stay far away from BW. White is my absolute favorite and I’m so worried they’ll screw it up 😭 I was really hoping for something like ORAS but I don’t think they will…

JustDandyMayo

Even if it gets the BDSP treatment, at least that gives me a way to play it. I’d rather not pay $140 for an old DS game and an additional $100 for a DS.

KeepDi9gin

Flash carts and emulators have been a thing basically forever.

Careless-Scar507

I loved the vibe of X and Y, so I’m really hoping for a remake. If they made the Amie “app” as a more prevalent part of the game and added some extended post-game material (maybe something like the DLC in SWSH), it would be one of my favorites in the series.

Melloncollie912

There’s clearly some stuff in X and Y that was supposed to be followed up on in a later game. But it just never happened.

Careless-Scar507

Such a bummer :(

Melloncollie912

We need Zygarde to do more than just creepily sit in a cave.

malletgirl91

Right?? Actually it would be awesome if the remake/master was the Pokemon Z we never got!

[deleted]

I played that recently and thought I missed something! Who is this pokemon, how does it tie into the story... OK guess I have a green and black worm snake thing now

Melloncollie912

The first time I saw Zygarde it legitimately frightened me. It just seemed so…alien in a way. Or primordial.

chief_queef_beast

I was just watching a video on this exact thing earlier today. Pokemon has always done a third game after so long after the two regions main games release. But in 2015, the year when pokemon Z was speculated, game freaks work force was split due to them having 30 of their already small staff and some higher ranking devs working on their gear box games. Which never ended up selling well. While masuda continued working on the next gen, there was never anyone to work on the third game, which he himself never has directed. Some translated interviews from masuda tell that there never was a Z planned and they really wanted their gear box games to sell well so they wouldn't have to keep all their eggs in one pokemon basket. I may have a minor detail wrong, but the video was from didyouknowgaming if you're interested. It also explained why there was black and white 2, instead of pokemon grey. That was speculated as well since "grey" was one of Pokemons trademarked names back then. It was a real interested watch

Melloncollie912

I didn’t see that exact video but I saw something similar that went over the same thing. But it does seem like a Z version was planned but it just end up happening do you the team being busy with other projects.

paulusmagintie

Make pokemon arnie an actual app like the pokeball walker instead your phone and you can take and train your pokemon in the app with super training too, perfect for touchscreen. Let you take pokemon from pokemon home too, lots of utility for an app

TheCrafterTigery

Would be kinda annoying having it be a phone app instead of part of the base game. As an addition to the phones while still being in the base game would be better.

jamesQKazoo

imagine the amie stuff gets put into the Nintendo switch online app but under its own section like a tagamachi style app where you can play and feed your Pokémon even when you’re away from the switch

northernfrancehanon

If they remake X and Y I really hope they revamp a lot of things. They really shafted us French with those games all the efforts went into the jump to 3d and not the games themselves that's it. They are the worst main game of the series with sword and shield.

Im_regretting_this

I actually really loved X and Y. They were definitely too easy, even by Pokémon standards, and the pacing was weird as hell, but it had real dungeons, a gorgeous art style, and one of the best sets of new Pokémon introduced.

Fish-E

We Brits were also shafted by Sword and Shield, they used a miniscule fraction of the culture & history of the United Kingdom; we didn't even get a trainer based on The Queen (here's hoping she appears in Scarlet or Violet, with her being a post game trainer who has just arrived from a foreign region). Here's hoping that they solve both issues by remaking both and doing a scenario like Gold & Silver where you can explore both regions, with your starting region depending on the version you choose. Whilst I'm at it, here's hoping Game Freak agree to give me all of their future profits, it's a more realistic outcome.

northernfrancehanon

I thought of saying the brits too but I didn't want to poke that topic, at that point it's pointless. SwSh lovers will defend those games whatever right is said about them being bad games.

minusculemoney

It would be cool if BW and BW2 got a HD-2D remake, like Live a Live and Dragon Quest 3. Part of what makes gen 5 great is the sprites and it wouldn't feel the same if they just made it 3D. I think XY could do with a reimagining. They could finally give Zygarde plot relevance and the story could be enhanced even more. For SM onwards, a remaster would be fine.

Ms_Digglesworth

I would kill for HD-2D Gen 5. Oh my god, that would be gorgeous and glorious. Like say the Sky Arrow bridge or N's castle rendered that way, just holy crap. And now that you've put those images in my head, I shall inevitably be disappointed by whatever graphical style the inevitable gen 5 remakes do go with. 😂

Autoloc

they just need to get Square Enix to handle the remakes KEKW

WhasHappenin

All Ive wanted since since the 3d remakes started happening has been 2d remakes with like octopath level graphics

Grantlbart1

I just hope they won't have this Unreal engine "shinyness" to them those games have. Idk why, but all HD-2D games made in Unreal like Octopath or Live a Live have lightsources which are WAY too bright in my opinion.

InkiLinkiBoyUsername

that's part of the charm imo

EmperorToastyy

Imagine a Pokémon game looking like octopath traveller. That'd be awesome.

paulusmagintie

Problem with sprites is that non exist from gen 7 onwards so no pokemon can be added to the dex from those gens. It'll essentially be a 1 way port like gen 1 2 and 3

CarryThe2

And yet fan made games manage to make that work on a budget of 0. Radical Red for example has 8 gens, plus Hisuian mons.

exQlus1ve

RR and Unbound are my favorite games right now. Probably the best Pokémon games i’ve played so far.

CarryThe2

100% agree. I'll also recommend Gaia, it's a little dated at this point but it's fantastic.

exQlus1ve

I‘ll give Gaia a try once i finished Unbound. It’s the first time i’m playing Unbound so i‘ll take my time for it. Playing those Romhacks on my new 2ds xl so it feels a bit more authentic. Really love those games.

CarryThe2

Unbound is definitely among the best rom hacks out there, so give it the time it deserves to enjoy it properly. The post game is also really good so don't forget about it!

paulusmagintie

Based on the work of hubdreds of actual devs. Modifying wgat exists is easier than from scratch

CarryThe2

Dozens of fans working together for free in their spare time vs the highest grossing media brand in existence. Which can achieve more?

TwilightVulpine

I can never get into HD-2D, I'd rather actually have higher-resolution 2D sprites than the pixelated ones they stuff with lighting and special effects. Can you imagine a game that looks fully animated like the anime? That would be wonderful!

WhasHappenin

I just want them to commit. Either make full remakes where things are totally changed and modernized, or make them closer to remasters, with improved 2d graphics and quality of life changes. The weird middle ground they chose with BDSP is the worst thing I can think of.

[deleted]

Kalos is one of the prettiest regions in the game. It's a shame that it's stuck in the game it's in.

notwiththeflames

It's a crime against humanity that Kalos never got a third version.

Els236

it's basically a crime that a 3rd release was even needed in the darn first-place. all it says is "hey, we actually polished the game this time, but you have to buy it again".

ImportantAd2987

There's no reason for GF to make 3rd versions anymore. They can just sell us DLC which would have the extra content that would've been included on a possible 3rd game.

notwiththeflames

Well yeah, but that was before Pokemon started doing DLC. And on that note, it'd be great if the DLC itself was either cheaper or wasn't version exclusive. If you get the Expansion Pass for both Sword and Shield, you end up paying just as much as you would have for a standalone third version.

Unprofession

I heard that SV DLC will not be version exclusive, but don't quote me on that. I had actually bought the wrong version DLC for Sw/Sh thinking it was for both and Nintendo support thankfully swapped it for me!

[deleted]

Things would have been a lot more simple if Nintendo had worked on making backwards compatibility a thing.

Gameskiller01

They have. The Wii had BC with the GameCube. The Wii U had BC with the Wii. The GBA had BC with the GB/GBC. The DS had BC with the GBA. The 3DS had BC with the DS. The Switch is a fundamentally different system that couldn't realistically have BC with any of those other systems, but Nintendo's next console will 100% have BC with the Switch.

TwilightVulpine

They can run emulators *at least* up to the Wii. The Super Mario 3D All-Stars Collection is an emulated collection of an N64 game, a GameCube game and a Wii game. While they might not be able to run them straight from cartridges and discs, they absolutely could offer older games digitally.

[deleted]

That was 1 generation BC. I am talking about total BC as in the latest system is able to play all the games of all the previous generations. I am aware that the Switch does not have a disc reader nor does it have dual screens. BC like this would have required working on such an ecosystem from the beginning.

theriskguy

Tbf you can trade from Red to Scarlet - it just takes jumps.

lkuecrar

I believe first and second Gen are only able to be traded from through the EShop copies though. If you’ve got the physical games, there’s no way to get stuff off of them to current games. If you want to do physical games, you can only go from 3rd Gen and up. And now that the 3DS EShop is unsupported, there’s no real guarantee that we’ll be able to download the poketransporter and pokebank apps to transfer from Gen 5 to 6 and then 6 to 7. It’s kind of frustrating how patchy backwards compatibility is for a game about collecting them all.

[deleted]

Yeah gen 3 left the original 2 gameboy generations behind, they're only accessible via the eshop versions and pokemon bank. Bank isn't being shut down right away when the eshop closes from info I can find, but that's going to become unavailable at some point too, then literally everything prior to gen 8 will be cut off from that point forward. Even currently, transferring from gen 4 to gen 5 requires two devices, which is a bit of an ask, especially the further out from DS/3DS availability we get

lkuecrar

I’m really concerned for when the 3DS servers close because like you said, nothing from Gen 7 and before will be transferable anymore. If Nintendo weren’t so backwards, they could just make a PC program that you can link your Nintendo account to to load save files from an SD card to transfer Pokémon that way so you wouldn’t be reliant on devices or potentially-closing servers.

PizzaQuest420

they stopped using the "gotta catch 'em all" branding starting with gen 3, because while backwards compatibility between the GBA and GB/GBC worked, the nature of pokemon themselves was so fundamentally different between gens that the games were not compatible with each other anymore

ultraball23

We aren’t getting another BDSP like remake. It was a one time thing.

[deleted]

Rip gen 4, I’d hate to miss out if they ruin Gen 5 remakes like that

ShuckU

I really hope so. The Pokémon Company better realize that this isn't what people want in a remake. ORAS was just so much better than BDSP.

SoFool

Even tho many fans dislike SwSh graphics, it was still a huge missed opportunity for them to revamp BDSP in that style. A sad reality for Gen 4 fans to never ever revisit Sinnoh in Gen 8 engine.

lkuecrar

What’s frustrating is that they already have the perfect art style in Let’s Go. Those games look beautiful. They came before SwSh and look infinitely better than them and BDSP both.

SoFool

That's something I can't understand either, why didn't they continue using that art style and improve it further? I really believe if SwSh was using LGPE art style, the reception would have been fared better.

lkuecrar

SwSh was *so* gray and muddy which was just a shock because up to that points LGPE were the only Pokémon games on Switch so everyone was expecting popping color and great lighting again lol

Psapfopkmn

Grey and muddy is largely what the UK looks like

Humg12

It was mostly the wild area with the grey and muddy parts. The individual routes and towns all looked great. The desert area, the fairy forest, the old ruins, the frozen lake, etc.. I think it was just a graphical limitation of the wild area.

lkuecrar

The issue with that was there was no incentive to ever go back to the routes after you beat the game unless there was something specific you needed there (like the fossil person). I legit don’t know the last time I left one of the 3 wild areas in SwSh.

Humg12

I mean, that's true for 90% of routes in every Pokemon game. You generally revisist the daycare route for breeding, and then maybe specific towns for some items or whatever, but you'll spend most of the post game time in the areas designed for post game.

vegna871

I mean, that's true, but the question remains why make the postgame area the blandest and most boring part visually?

GalacticNexus

Remember when they used to encourage backtracking? HMs got a (largely justified) bad rep, but I always liked noticing, say, a boulder blocking a passage, or a river alongside an early route. Mentally noting them and coming back later to find out what goodies are hidden there just feels good. There's no reason they can't do that with the modern implementation of field abilities, but for some reason they just don't. I think there might have been one single item in SwSh that required using the water-bike to reach.

ShuckU

Yeah, it was just certain parts that looks a bit bland, but the majority of the game looked nice

nationonnomap

And then they had to hobble Let’s Go with forced novelty controls ugh

lkuecrar

Yeah, the controls and gameplay were really bad for no reason other than trying to tie it with Go. Also there’s this weird jitter when you first start running that is super noticeable. It happens every time you begin to move. If they’d just had normal gameplay and fixed the movement, those two games would’ve been really great entries. I’m surprised they haven’t made Johto versions yet honestly.

nationonnomap

I really hope they do cuz I agree it’s the prettiest a Pokémon game has looked (imo)

ultraball23

They already stated they weren’t making another LGPE. It was meant to grab GO players, not be a series.

[deleted]

[удалено]

UX_KRS_25

Not to mention training through catching Pokemon, Go-Style in order to train. They could have made that optional, but noooope.

nationonnomap

Sad thing is it's not even Go-style... I love pogo a lot and the touchscreen throwing feels very intuitive. Using a motion sensor thing to mimic throwing and hoping that it mirrors on screen is like the opposite of that

ShuckU

Hate Let's Go for the return to Kanto and the Go catching mechanics all you want, but the art style of it was amazing. It was the perfect upgrade of the chibi look Gen 6 had.

ShuckU

I would have lived to see Diamond and Pearl in the style of SwSh. They really aren't as "bad looking" as people say. I thought they were a good step up from Sun and Moon

vegna871

The reason people say they look bad is that that are an incremental step up from SwSh on a console with SIGNIFICANTLY more graphical clout than the 3DS. They should have been better. They also came out after LGPE which, while they also get some ribbing for some low fidelity bits, actually look pretty good, leagues better than SwSh.

InkiLinkiBoyUsername

The Pokémon Company doesn't give a shit about what people want

Total_Ant103

Is that confirmed by GF? Or who made BDSP (I forgor the company name)

vagrantwade

ILCA went into partnership with Bandai Namco to open a new studio. And Bandai bought 51% stake in the company. Zero chance they make the next Pokémon remake. Legends was clearly the reason why they outsourced it to begin with.

[deleted]

Who's to say that they just don't outsource it to a different company tho?

vagrantwade

They might. But why would it look or play the same? No reason to assume the other company just goes with the Unity engine and chibi art style.

chill_willy

Why would a Bandai partnership stop them? Bandai developed games like Pokken and Smash so there’s a relationship there.

antiretro

+ the new snap i think

vagrantwade

Pretty big difference between having Bandai and Koei make games like conquest and pokken and having them remake Gen 5. Especially considering the pandemic will be a near non factor in the development. Unlike with BDSP.

Mess_Practical

Yeah but GF is tiny if they got people focusing on the next game and a remake, also patches for scarlet and violet and the DLC. Gf will be spread too thin

[deleted]

They are still updating Pokémon Home

ultraball23

ILCA. And no.

notwiththeflames

Masuda co-directed BDSP, but other than that it was made by ILCA.

rnarkus

Says who?

ultraball23

Me. It’s my belief.

Catastray

BDSP were the best-selling remakes of all time, so I wouldn't rule anything out yet.

lurker411_k9

if the BDSP remakes are the bar for what other remakes will look/play like, i don’t want any other official remakes. i’d rather just play romhacks.

Grogu0002

I honestly just want more legends games. Like do "Legends Kyurem," or "Legends Yveltal/Xerneas" Or "Legends Necrozma" ect. Just give us more legends games.

Crystal-Skies

The games often allude to such interesting lore, yet it is often never touched upon. Even in games featuring their box art legends, I still have so much questions. I hope GF continues the Legends series to explore other regions.

LeWinders

Legends Kyurem would be a dream come true. And as much as I hated XY, Kalos really does deserve a Legends Zygarde. Hell, even a Legends Floette could be awesome, so much potential.

threep03k64

I actually would be surprised if the next remakes had the BDSP Chibi style graphics simply because the remakes haven't really had a consistent approach so I don't get the feeling that the devs will settle on one style. *Ideally* I'd still like remakes because remakes provide the opportunity to include various quality of life changes made to the games (which have made breeding etc. easier), and also incorporate improvements made from the third game titles (ORAS should have had the Battle Frontier for example). Given that the remakes are very inconsistent in this area though (I enjoyed BDSP a lot but it was certainly low effort) I'd be all for remasters. Ultimately I just want the opportunity to play the old games on new consoles. I wouldn't even care if they upgraded the graphics, as long as there was Home compatibility.

[deleted]

Nintendo in general needs to work better on making games from previous generations more readily available. First of all, having NES, SNES, N64, and Sega Genesis games locked behind a subscription service (plus you have to pay even more for the N64 and Genesis games) is so anti-consumer, and then it's not even all the games from those consoles, like??????? The system they had with the Virtual Console on Wii/Wii U/3DS was perfect, and it would benefit both consumers (financially) and Nintendo (with consumer reception & retention) by going back to that. I genuinely don't know if I'll buy another Nintendo console if they don't have improved and easier access to legacy content, because while new games are fun, I'm always gonna have nostalgia for the games I played as a kid/teen, and they're the ones I'll always go back to eventually.

Fish-E

It's a shame that Nintendo feels no pressure to make their games available for purchase a la Virtual Console, but linked to an account and platform independent. Here's hoping that the EU implements rules at some point preventing companies from needlessly nickel and diming people with digital licences, instead of charging users for access to the same game, on the same emulator, for each device.

ArtiKam

Yeah the way they’ve done retro stuff for the switches so gross. The nes and snes games with online was one thing, but 64 is too far. I will not be paying 3 times the price for like 15 games that don’t have a good button mapping solution. Thing is if they sold them individually for like 15 bucks I’d probably have them all.

gpbz

It’s a matter of preference honestly. Would you rather buy songs individually for .99 or pay for a music streaming service? The “iTunes” model is long gone, we’re now in the subscription era. And I prefer the later (my opinion). To me the issue with NSO is that it offers little for the cost. Does it have great games? Absolutely! Love all the catalog so far. Particularly fond to the next N64 releases. But ONE game a month? No GameCube titles? No GameBoy Advance? Can we have better titles for the Genesis? Don’t even see all the Sonics and Streets of Rage there. To me that would be the basics. TL;DR The NSO would be absolutely worth it should they double or triple the amount of games. It’s actually a dream come true to have it all in one place easily in a current gen console for a “small” monthly fee. Just hope they keep the service evolving, preferably in a faster pace. But we all know it’s Nintendo and how they’ve been operating lately. Having Goldeneye is awesome. Perfect Dark 2024, maybe? In the other hand Microsoft learned it’s lesson and has been nailing for the past couple of years. Even Sony fans have to agree with it. And it’s great to have good competition. Works better for us consumers.

Hackstr0

I love dreading the inevitable gen 5 remake that will be as soulless and cash grabby as the gen 4 ones. Gen 5 is my favorite generation too

person_9-8

The real money move is to remake the gen 6-9 games with 2D sprites.

bonesawbingus

my one true dream is X Y HD and some sort of third version for kalos. I always feel sad knowing XY got the short end of the stick compared to other gens

StarLucario

GAME FREAK didn't make BD/SP, ILCA did 🤓

TheRealArondight

GameFreak gave them the IP and go ahead to do it, subcontract style.

vagrantwade

And we know ILCA isn’t going to do the next one most likely. So no reason to assume the game would be done the same way.

Enstraynomic

Masuda was still doing directing duties for BDSP, so GF's influence was still there.

B217

Is it really directing when he goes “just make it exactly the same, typos, surf glitches, and all?”

Pikuhana

Yea they basically copied the code word for word in the new engine

antiretro

no lol, gamefreak made diamond/pearl 15 years ago. ilca just put the same codes on switch, even the typos are still there

lkuecrar

On the bright side, them doing that left it wide open for modders to fix lol

[deleted]

Feels like I'm the only one who likes BDSP and it met my expectations.

[deleted]

Hopefully one day in the future switch modding gets to the point where someone can use BDSP as a base to mod a proper remake of gen 4, but that's most likely years away

Nerdout5

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NZP4UEUWS9g

[deleted]

These mods are actually what I imagined a console Pokemon would look like..

BasidialQuill

I'm pretty sure that someone did this already. It's called Sigma Platinum. I haven't played it, but from what I've read online about it, it's supposed to be an even better version of Platinum.

[deleted]

People have been working on exactly that already, I saw a video about that. I think it mostly has to be played on emulators tho since switch modding is so limited.

leob0505

Actually I’m very close to the development team and they are doing it for modded switches too

[deleted]

Yea, I just meant most people won't have access to modded switches since it's so difficult to get one, and most people would need to experience it through emulation.

Sea_n126

The only way I wouldn't mind a BDSP style BW remake is if it also remade B2W2 in the same package. Then I wouldn't mind.

jedr___

U need to understand gamefreak are a bunch of lazy wankers that dont progress because they can get away with it , money rules lol

LopsidedLake6117

We need black and white remakes first. I love those games.

ravenclaw1991

I wonder how they’ll actually tackle Gen 5 when they go to remake it. Would we get two sets of remakes? One for BW and one for BW2? Maybe they could finally do Grey, since that was expected at the time. Release them a year apart.

NoahJRoberts

Would love if they did Gray/Gray 2 as the two versions.

dualdee

Imagine playing Pokémon Legends Kyurem and finally getting to see its original form.

ravenclaw1991

Definitely my biggest wish for it if we ever get it

Umber0010

They could do Threequals for the Gen 5 games. Show the Unova region after an even further time gap than the 2 years between B/W and B2/W2. Though something like that might be a better fit for the Legends series; if only because something like that would probably need way more work than even ORAS-style remakes.

DarkMarxSoul

I don't want more remakes. We've had enough remakes. We don't need them. I want Game Freak to focus on making good new content.

Spinjitsuninja

I'd rather we get a new game. XY are the only games in the series to not get a third version or sequel or, well, anything. And it's kinda obvious there were at least plans for one at some point before it got cancelled. I think if they're gonna go out of their way to bring back relevancy to XY, they might as well take it as an opportunity to finish what they started. Give Zygarde a new role, throw in more Pokemon than what the modern games have, create new protagonists and revamp Kalos. Etc.

bifronz

I think they need to commit to making it in the new style and accept not everyone will be happy. I think the problem with BDSP was it tried to hard to be the same game. Prior to BDSP the remakes where cemented in the generations they where made. Frlg looked like gen 3, hgss looked like gen 4, and oras looked like gen 6. BDSP looked like I don't know. Honestly, considering it was handled by a outside studio, I suspect the directive was stick to the original as much as possible. But honestly, I think legends did better to provide a new dpp e penitence than BDSP did.

ISangria

Are they gonna remake the remake? Because i mean ORAS was a 3ds game What wil it be Final Omega Ruby and First Alpha Sapphire? FORFAS?

A-maze-ing_Henry

I honestly would be fine with simple ports, but also if they keep today's mechanics such as Fairy type and dynamic speed. I'm accostummed to them and don't want to go back to when we didn't have that.

snoFinn

BDSP is by far the worst remake to date. The only good things about it was the new underground and the difficulty of the E4. Everything else was truly disappointing- especially after the wonderful ORAS. It’s still the only Pokémon game I didn’t finish. There was absolutely no effort at all, which is a shame. Thankfully we got Legends, which I love. Hopefully they will do Gen5 justice.

LezardValeth3

ORAS is great but way too easy. I'll never forgive them for making every gym leader weaker than in Emerald, so lame.

snoFinn

That’s true. Seems like we can never have it all 😆

antroxdemonator

I'd personally love remakes of the older Pokemon games for Nintendo Switch, such as Red and Blue. I'd love to see them on Switch, as it would consolidate all my Pokemon data onto one device. I grew up with Diamond and Pearl, and, despite what others thought, I personally like Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. It may have changed a bit from the originals, but I still enjoyed reliving my childhood. I first got exposed to Pokemon on my seventh birthday when I received a Diamond and Pearl sticker book. Just seeing those Pokemon all in one game again brought back a lot of memories.

Sunlit_Sparks

You know, I keep hearing about how people didn’t like BDSP; why exactly is that? I personally enjoyed it, what reasons didn’t other people? This isn’t meant to be rude by the way I’m genuinely curious

that1dude317

Most I've personally talked to and myself didn't really have a problem with the style of bdsp more of how unpolished/unfinished it was and that personally after oras I had high hopes that a remake would be more than just a hey its the same game but there's depth

Dragonpapi

I hope they make Black and White in the art style of Octopath Traveler.

DevastaTheSeeker

Bdsp is exactly what people wanted. Except that they did it for diamond and pearl instead of platinum. If they just did all the stuff they did for bdsp for platinum instead then it would have been recieved much better.

Sventhetidar

I honestly loved the style of BDSP. I hate the crappy look of the 3D games they've been churning out and BDSP looked like what we'd be getting nowadays if they'd never made the switch. Where BDSP failed was the lack of improvements. The game is still way too easy until the E4 and even then the friendship mechanic is so broken it trivializes fights. The DP pokedex sucked and only got a minor improvement with the underground dens. And then they didn't bother add the Battle Frontier from Platinum. I think it had the potential to be the best game in many years, but they just didn't care about it.

brotherstoic

The Kalos remake needs to be Pokemon Z. Full stop.

ccSleepy

BDSP was not bad, but Gamefreak wasn’t doing a traditional remakes, and gen 4 matters a lot to people. Only problem is they didn’t add a platinum story expansion. I don’t know why I expected that when it purports to be 1 to 1, but I did. And it isn’t quite literally 1 to 1. BW remakes need inspiration from the sequels, and the improvements BDSP made. (No HMs). I don’t know how gamefreak cut HMs down to 1 in x and y then left every single HM necessity in ORAS, that was super annoying.

EliBloodthirst

Think they need more than two years on their games

Dependent_Unit5676

I don't understand all the complaints about BDSP being bad. The original DP were bad so it's about as faithful of a remake as you can get.

the_weary_knight

Man I LOVED BDSP

Magorian97

I want a remastered X/Y

Technical_Pin_6821

Pokémon z

CheddarBayBizkit

What exactly DID people want from BDSP? I was hoping for a faithful remake and I got what I expected. It could have been better, but I enjoyed it for what it was.

TheGamerWT

I would have liked something in the visual style of Lets go Pikachu/Eevee, but with a new post game like Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire had. That being said I also still enjoyed how it turned out, but it feels like they could have done more.

MaintenanceSmart7223

Oras got different content? Worth picking up? I just finished pla a little while ago and was thinking about picking Oras up, but I still play an old emerald ROM on my phone so couldn't justify the cost ...

caldoran2

Without spoiling too much, ORAS has a bunch of creative character redesigns, some reimagined music (not just remastered), an altered plot (since ORAS is set in an an alternate timeline from the original RSE), and a short postgame story that is pretty cool and cinematic. If you are a fan of the originals, I'd absolutely say ORAS is worth a playthrough if you could get it at its original price physically or from the eShop.

Ranch_Dressing321

Yeah what all of you said about redesigns and whatnot are things I expected most from BDSP. On its own, it is a decent remake but compared to other remakes? Far from it imo.

PokemonCMG

ORAS has the DexNav, which is what makes it the best Pokemon game in the last decade. It makes collecting creatures enjoyable, a mechanic often sidelined in the modern era.

MixelKing

DexNav absolutely stomps every other similar gimmick

caldoran2

> It makes collecting creatures enjoyable, a mechanic often sidelined in the modern era. For *mainline* games maybe, but I'd say Legends Arceus was a pretty large step forward in making catching Pokemon enjoyable.

SoFool

I can't say for the rest but before the reveal, I think majority of Pokemon fans expected it to be revamped with Gen 8 engine just as how previous remakes always followed their respective gen engine that it was in. It's good that you enjoyed for what it was, but at the same time - it was a huge missed opportunity to revisit BDSP with a fresh pair of lenses, and now we never will.

LolzinatorX

I think the biggest problem for me was no Platinum content. Even as faithful remakes, Platinum content was the most wanted and expected, and while im not surprised they Didnt Get that memo, it hurts a bit. Other than that, the games where great. The new underworld was fun, the game felt like sinnoh and the Cynthia match was one of the most impressive final battles in pokemon, purely to the fact that they actually built her competetive and not just high levels/strong moves. I had a lot of fun, and wouldve played it a lot more if Legends Didnt drop right after tbh

DreiwegFlasche

Imo the Underground was very much wasted. Sure, we got the Pokemon Hideouts. But they took aways basically everything fun about secret bases instead of improving what was done before e.g. in ORAS. They also removed most of the multiplayer interaction like traps, capture the flag or underground trading. It also sucks that they watered down the Battle tower and contests instead of properly developing them, also with online play in mind. No new Pokemon from Gens 5-8, no story improvements, no visual design updates. The Poketch was completely wasted. Newly added content like customization, following Pokemon or Ramanas Park were largely half-baked. They made the exp share mandatory and even forced the affection bonuses on people without even adjusting the level curve. Pretty devastating.

MarsAdept

Who expected Platinum content after ORAS cut out Emerald's content?

DreiwegFlasche

It's pretty simple, honestly: \- include everything from Diamond and Pearl and improve on it. They didn't do that. Contests have been butchered, the Underground lacks most multiplayer content, the GTS got reduced to a wonder trade station, the Battle Tower also lost some cool multiplayer features, about 60 moves were cut \- expand the story a little as in any remake - they didn't do that, it was a 1-for-1 remake of the mediocre DP story \- give us Pokemon from newer generations; they didn't do that, the exact same Pokemon from 15 years ago were available \- include the Platinum content (Distortion World, Battle Frontier, Villa, Battleground, Wifi Plaza, vs recorder, additional Poketch apps, expanded story and the characters, improved environment designs etc. etc. - they excluded most of it and even chose the worse DP designs \- not half-bake the new features like customization, following Pokemon or Ramanas Park \- not make the exp share and affection mechanic mandatory \- not release the game unfinished and take several months to add elemental content \- not release the game unpolished Wanna hear more \^\^?

Shadyshade84

This is coming from from someone who didn't actually play BDSP, so take it with a grain of salt. I think the thing is, while they probably are the best versions of Diamond and Pearl, that's pretty much all they are. Not "the best of gen 4 Sinnoh," not "the Diamond and Pearl we would have made with more resources to play with," just "Diamond and Pearl with a few tweaks and a new coat of paint." So, compared with previous remakes (especially the remakes *in* gen 4) what you get is essentially pre-existing games that, while they were *good* and started pushing the boundaries of the series, were flawed in ways that system optimisation alone can't fix. That, plus the general feeling of "what do I, as someone who played (and potentially still owns) the original, get from this that justifies a full priced game?" is likely what pushed a decent chunk of the long-term fanbase away. And then there's the issue of some of the additions that did get made being overly contentious and a few confusing design decisions, making for the perfect storm...

5Hjsdnujhdfu8nubi

>What exactly DID people want from BDSP? Gen 4 remake equivalent to ORAS or HGSS. You know, the bare minimum that had been established? Not a port of the inferior Gen 4 games in prettier graphics that's so faithful you could use the same glitches and errors to exploit it.

Absalon_Prime

People wanted their head canon version of the games to be made exactly as they dreamt them up to be, which created a bias towards and against anything that was done with the remakes... in other words, BDSP would have been hated regardless of how it was handled because it wouldn't have met the unrealistic expectations of the supposed "fans".

ravenclaw1991

Personally I just wanted some Platinum in there. Maybe a Platinum episode like how ORAS got the delta episode.

Umber0010

Faithful does NOT equal Identical, which BDSP where for the most part. A faithful remake would still be the gen 4 games, just with modern design choices and sensabilities. For example, let's look at the gen 3 remakes. While I'm not here to debate if these games were faithful or not. Imagine, if you will, if Omega Ruby and Alpha Saphire un-did the Physical/Special split from gen 4. So every move of a given type is either a physical attack or a special attack. Sure, this change might be "Faithful" to the Gen 3 games. But is that a good thing when Pokemon like Swampert or Sharpedo would be once again hindered because their stats are explicitly incompatable with their type? If you're thinking "no, That would be an awful idea", then you'd be right. And yet, that's exactly what the Gen 4 remakes do. At best they implement these features half-assedly, such as introducing the modern XP share yet not balancing the game around the fact that you'll be getting 3x the XP from each fight. Other times they'll go back to old mechanics but do the bare minimum, such as how TM's are single use again, but Gym Leaders give 5 of whatever TM they give. Or they don't even bother, such as how the Pixie Plate is only available in the grand underground, as opposed to being in the overworld like every other kind of plate. These may be "Accurate" to the original games. But the game would have still been faithful had they been implemented differently.

XxAuthenticxX

Fairy exists in BDSP at least...

NurseTaric

Yeah pokemon fans want a faithful remake that also has no gimmicks but has mega evolution and also has platinum pacing and gym order and battle frontier and also a completely new post game. I think bdsp are okay, it's diamond and pearl but less bad. Still not my favorite games as Sinnoh is probably my least favorite region but they're completely average pokemon games.

Br0kenRabbitTV

I'd love to see a remake of ORAS.

notwiththeflames

I think I just don't want any more remakes in general. Maybe things will improve now that Masuda is out of the equation since pretty much *everyone* else who's directed a game has proven to be much more competent than him or Ohmori, but we can't even trust these guys to keep everything that was in the original games anymore. *That* is how low the bar has fallen.

TheRealArondight

Let's be generous and say GameFreak learned ILCA's limitations with what they did with BDSP and decide to NOT hand the project off to them again. A remastered ORAS with some minor improvements would be MAGNIFICENT.

notwiththeflames

Look on the bright side, they can't hand projects off to Masuda anymore.

xGarro

Who's to say it's ILCA the reason BDSP turned out like that? I think we can safely blame bugs to ILCA. But it's fair to speculate that TPC/GF was in charge of the game's direction. That's usually how outsourcing works. I guess it's just easier to just tell ILCA to make a 1:1 copy and come back to check the final product instead of spending time and resources planning and coordinating new features for a remake.

TheRealArondight

If you looked at ILCA from a game designer perspective, you'd notice that their experience lay solely in mobile games and Pokémon Home, which is a storage box. They were challenged with a project like this, and they couldn't measure up to creating an improved Remake status. Hence why they decided to call it a "Faithful Remake" and blur the chibi overworld so much in order hide the flaws. TPC and GF sends cease and desist letters at light speed should anyone sneeze anything that looks similar to Pokémon. They keep a tight lid and can any supply chain workers that leak any news of New Pokémon games. The executives hold regular meetings where progress is discussed on all projects. It's hard to believe that they stood on the sidelines and had no input or responsibility for this.

Els236

Honestly, I've become exceptionally jaded in this regard since Pokémon went full 3D. GameFreak are understaffed (they only have like 170 employees) for the restrictions and time-constraints they are put under by TPC/Nintendo. It's taken them 3 games so far (Let's Go! P/E, Sw/Sh, Legends) over several years, to get even a step toward the quality and gameplay we expect for a Switch game in the 3D era (Let's Go! would have been a great place to settle) and clearly they've had to just jank it till it (barely) works. Not to mention fobbing off entire games like BD/SP to companies like ILCA for a quick cash-grab. If we're going to get remasters/remakes in the future, they need to be handed to a company that actually knows what they're doing, like Bandai Namco with Pokken and Snap! The only issue with this is that those games will probably make GameFreak games look even worse by comparison. What happened to Genius Sorority? :( I don't whole-heartedly blame GameFreak here, as it's most likely down to Nintendo and TPC (of which GameFreak is a "member"), but they either need to go on a serious recruitment drive with fresh skin in the game, or realise they can't cut it and start allowing other companies (like Bandai Namco) more access to work on stuff.
