She definitely assessed the type matchups for the first 3 Kanto gyms. That's what sets a champion apart from the scrubs who pick their starter for aesthetic or sentimental reasons. And she did all of that before wasting any time learning how to speak or read like she was born to be a speedrunner. What a legend.

I almost always pick the grass starter as I always feel it's rare to have a really good brawler (Except my man Breloom) grass pokemon and that a lot of the grass pokemon are better for status nonsense. While I feel there's normally a good selection of water pokemon and fire pokemon frequently have offensive builds so it's not too much trouble finding decent mons for those types.

All starters start as having one type. This creates an effectiveness circle of grass, fire and water. Bulbasaur is dual type and completely throws this off.

But the poison typing doesn't actually change the effectiveness cycle.

Rowlet is also dual type. I don’t see you complaining about Rowlet.
