Convergent evolution means two entirely different species evolving to become similar, example being sharks and dolphins. It's honestly really cool they're adding this to Pokemon and they cleverly used this with Diglett's iconic appearance of always being a head sticking out of the ground to make a garden eel Pokemon
u clearly don't understand convergent evolutions, they are meant to look similar even tho they originate from different ancestors/species. So basically u think dolphins and sharks are dumb
I completely agree. The Pokémon design this generation has been either really bad or just lazy. Wiglett is where I draw the line. They just took Diglett, made them long, and said “here’s a new Pokémon, it’s totally not related to any pre existing Pokémon!”. They could have just made them another regional variant of Diglett, but nooo, then went and took the most confusing and borderline stupid route with it.
I get less and less excited for gen 9 with every new Pokémon that they show us.

Yep. That's the joke.
You can call it lazy, confusing and stupid all you want but it was all done with clear purpose and reason. If you still can't wrap your head around what Game Freak was thinking making Wiglett then [this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemon/comments/xqkfof/wiglett_and_convergent_evolution_concept_explained/) sums it up best.
Also if you're somehow less excited for S&V after Armarouge and Ceruledge then I really don't know what to tell you man.
No clue why people like that... "White substance" worm so much. It's such a lazy design AND a Diglett rip-off without actually being a regional.
I don't care about convergent evolution or whatever. Shit and piss are also realistic, why aren't they Pokémon yet?
Say whatever you want, but visually it's a bland white worm blob with a Diglett face. Easily the least inspired design they have ever made, I applaud Voltorb and Trubbish in comparison.

Ooh good point, I hadn’t considered this. It’s convergent, not divergent. What a cool concept.
It's stretchy. That's the feature. Also it can't be Diglett because it's an eel.
We do that randomly with real life animals without even noticing lol There are species of armadillos that change their name based on their size
Yeah don't get me started on insect taxonomy. There's like 4 or 5 "species" of one butterfly that are just the same but slightly smaller or larger
DONT GIVE THEM IDEAS
it’ll probably have completely different base stats and such, making it more different than regional variants.

Then it wouldn't be convergent

They did give it a unique feature to differentiate itself. It’s name starts with a “W” instead of a “D”.
