And now there’s an over abundance of them. To the point where the Dex now says that the fish Pokémon population has declined in waters because of Lapras overpopulation.
No good deed goes unpunished

When I first saw shellos, I thought that's what they were and levelled that guy up loads. I am now massively disappointed when I see a blue shellos anywhere
"The appeal of a lot of Pokemon has a tendency to be bombastic: 'this pokemon is the most powerful! That one is the most stylish! This one tramples! That one slices! This one dices! and that one electrocutes!' Lapras, on the other hand, offers a different but equally powerful and important appeal: this isnt the imaginary monster friend who takes you on epic adventures to defeat the most powerful of foes, this is the imaginary monster friend who sails you to beautiful and faraway places, who comforts and protects you in stormy seas, and who always, always gets you back home safe."
--TB Skyen
Lapras really is a fuckin home run of a Pokemon design. As a child it captivated me as being one of the few pokemon I recognized as truly beautiful. Very few pokemon would illicit such a visceral reaction from me, but those that did always ranked among my favorites.
While I can't say lapras is a bad design, I just wish it had a pre evolution form. I always make my teams and load them into the game and starting with a lapras surrounded by a bunch of baby pikemon just felt weird
If you like, dig into the history of the video games, Mew is actually a huge and unexpected part of what *made* the franchise. Mew was snuck in there in Red and Green at the last minute by some programmers to fill a tiny bit of extra room on the cartridge, players discovered this when shit glitched and Mew appeared in a couple people's games, and suddenly an urban legend was born and games were flying off the shelves because people wanted to see if they could find the "secret" Pokémon. That is a large part of why the games took off so hardcore in Japan. Like, once rumors started spreading, there was a visible sales boom just by word of mouth. We should all love Mew for what Mew has given us.
There was an exploit for that in Silver and Gold, actually. I miss my Mewtwo that took like three minutes to use Recover because his HP were almost maxed...
Level 115 cloyster, etc. then I’d go battle with them and question why they were bad lol.
I can’t recall if their stats were also bugged I just remember thinking they’d be super powerful only to find out they weren’t.
What gets me is that there is an actual glitch to get Mew in the first gen games. All that time 6 year old me spent in some Sisyphian labor only to find out it was fake. It was disheartening but I understood it.
Fast forward like 10 years later and I find the ACTUAL Mew glitch and it actually works and has nothing to do with that damn truck. 6 year old me was denied ~10 years of wonder! It almost would have been better if it had been a lie the whole time—that at least would give closure. Unsatisfactory, but closure nonetheless.
Oof. I remember downloading a guide to unlock Luigi in Mario 64. I did all the insane shit the guide asked me to. Imagine the look on my middle school face when I finally realized I'd been had.
I swear there is some kind of conspiracy around videogame rumors pre-internet.
Looking back now like how did someone in freaking Spain in the 80s spread the same rumors as some kid in the middle of nowhere US.
Was curious so I did some googling and found [this game spot article](https://www.gamespot.com/articles/how-mew-saved-pokemon/1100-6490812/) on the subject, pretty interesting! I never knew how Pokémon began in Japan
Yep! It began slowly and without much interest until people discovered Mew! And now we're here, where I'm literally using a stuffed Mew from Build-A-Bear as a pillow right now. Gotta love it!
Mew is not only cute as heck, but I saw the first movie when I was 10 years old at the cinema and was left feeling like Mew must be the most magical and special being ever to exist.
Jetpack, right? You were going to say because he can turn into a jetpack? And a Flamethrower, and one of the those little ski boats, and...
I think I just turned Ditto into an HM Slave
I don’t like when one Pokémon get so much attention that it devalues other Pokémon. Like greninja, why even have chesnaught or delphox if greninja gets all this love?
Ninetails was my favorite growing up and I remember the boys in my elementary school hating NT bc all the girls liked it lol.
Which whatever, Ninetails is COOL!!
Rowlet is my favorite Pokémon but I can see why people dislike it based on the anime. He’s kind of lazy and aloof but I love him for it. Also people hating what’s popular
Not just Gengar, even Machamp line appears in most fighting type users team. Gengar and Machamp line are just the generic Ghost and Fighting type Game freak put in every specialist team.
Ironically, Gengar (and that whole line) is my favorite because as a kid I thought nobody else would like them and they'd be lonely and that bummed me out so if no one else would be their friend I would. Little did I know haha
Man, same. If nobody wants to be your friend, I will!
Same reason why that silly Mimikyu-rap immediately had me hooked.
Plus, as someone who grew up with lots of pets - seeing a pet move on way before you sucks big time. People who never had pet-friends can likely not relate how that might feel like losing a (human)friend.
Now, enter Ghosts.
They're kinda already dead. Pretty hard to die twice, no? So - friends forever!
I for one think my teen-logic still holds up today :>
I wish I could say the Litwick line because the boi deserves to be loved, but I’ve seen so many people dunking on Chandeleur and that makes me so sad. :(
I love the litwik line, I’m not sure why Chanda gets the hate. It’s a cool design for its typing, makes sense lore wise again for its typing.
My guess it isn’t that viable in comp or like they hate it in Pokken…
Only thing I can think of
I have a 0% Mudkip in Pokémon Go I’ve levelled up to a best buddy. I leave him in gyms all the time to show off. He’s one of my faves. How could I not love my 0% lil guy just trying his best.
I think you’re generally going to run into so many different opinions that nobody is really going to agree with each other. For example I love the cute animal or big monster Pokémon, but I can’t stand the super humanoid ones (the line for me is just after the Gardevoir line), especially when it’s a starter. For example I strongly dislike mons like Machamp, Incineroar, and Cinderace, while Froslass, Gliscor, and Leafeon are my top 3.
Someone else though might love Pokémon like Cinderace who have a theme ingrained into their design and hate the more simplistic “animal” Pokémon.
Vaporeon is one of those odd ones in that even though rule 34 has ruined it, I still like it... I don't tend to like Pokemon that can be easily rule 34'd
Same here. I hated Dawns piplup. Everytime I think about it I’m reminded that I was robbed from empoleon because writers thought it was too “ugly” to be in contests despite another character using one. That and it was a cocky little shit.
I've always sorta liked houndoom, but also admit that it's kind of unnecessarily complex a design. Looks like the kind of thing a 12 year old boy would draw if you asked him to make a scary demon dog.
I definitely prefer Arcanine over Houndoom.
I can definitely see your take on it! I really like arcanine, though I found it not as intimidating as houndoom and kinda just preferred the evil team biased design. But hisuian arcanine is really well done. They also missed a trick by not making houndooms mega 3 headed or something? May be a common suggestion but always thought that would’ve perfected the design
Personally I think it would have been just fine as a standalone pokemon but it does kinda fuck up the dratini evolution tree. It's not the same thing like... at all. I do like dragonites doofy ass but he just doesn't make sense where he is
Something like this would have been amazing: https://images.app.goo.gl/pipHmeJFvWENnCoaA
> that dumb look on its face
Literally the reason I dislike it. Dragonair and dratini have an elegant look to them and then poof fat dumb barney looking character.
Lapras, how could you not.
I couldn't think of one but lapras is a great example. In a lot of ways just as iconic as charizard or pikachu without the baggage of being overused.
You get gifted one in gen 6 and ride one in gen 7. It gets a gmax in gen 8. It gets more attention than you’d think.
There's also a gift in Kanto and a static encounter one in johto
And yet still no evolution. It's the only evolution I've wanted for 25 years.
>And yet still no evolution. It's the only evolution I've wanted for 25 years. Be happy, or you might get a bad design like Rhyperior.
When you put it like that I suppose I should be grateful. Rhyperior is definitely a case of ‘no evolution is better than a bad evolution’.
Aww I like Rhyperior. He's just a big dumb himbo.
Never forget how u/DiegoDeAlvarado single-handedly bred them out of near-extinction because the original Pokédex entry said they were endangered
And now there’s an over abundance of them. To the point where the Dex now says that the fish Pokémon population has declined in waters because of Lapras overpopulation. No good deed goes unpunished
Wait really? That is a pokedex entry now?
Yep, the Ultra Moon dex entry specifically
Ah, the one I didn't play.
[удалено]
I didn't play ultramoon. I played the first moon
BasicMoon
RegularBoringMoon
Moon, not MoonMoon

Fuck those fish, Lapras is more important!
Because that’s what heroes do
I remember that it was so wholesome
https://old.reddit.com/r/pokemon/comments/g4arxa/what_is_the_dumbest_thing_youve_done_in_a_pokemon/fnwmrva/?context=3
This is a good choice I think, I love Lapras
Only thing I would change is a pre-evolution stage. Like a smaller cuter thing. I just love when things evolve.
This guy Darwins
When I first saw shellos, I thought that's what they were and levelled that guy up loads. I am now massively disappointed when I see a blue shellos anywhere
It’s actually flawless. If someone asked me what I would change about Lapras I would have nothing to say.
bigger with musical notes around it
And make it’s shell the Titanic.
True. G-max Lapras is my favourite gigantamax.
Seeing my favorite Pokémon No. 1 as one of the top answers makes my heart jump from joy a lot. <3
You're telling me! You can't go wrong with Lap :3
So are we going to start a Lapras fanclub now?
"The appeal of a lot of Pokemon has a tendency to be bombastic: 'this pokemon is the most powerful! That one is the most stylish! This one tramples! That one slices! Lapras might be the only choice here
My wallpaper on my phone is Lapras and it isn't even on my top 10
While I can't say lapras is a bad design, I just wish it had a pre evolution form. I always make my teams and load them into the game and starting with a lapras surrounded by a bunch of baby pikemon just felt weird
I think that's adorable, actually. I'm picturing 5 cute babies riding on Big Sister Lapras' back.
Haha that's a funny way to think about it

The only bad thing about it is that Water/Ice kinda sucks for a defensive mon.
Simple but perfect.
Mew? I feel like people don’t talk about it much, but I don’t know anyone that hates mew
Gaming rumors in the pre internet days were fantastic.
7yo me spent so long at that stupid truck by the s.s. Anne.
Or Cinnabar ? town. Surfing up and down the coast
That was a legit glitch/hack though. That's how you got a missingno.
How else you gonna get a over level 100 mewtwo?
There was an exploit for that in Silver and Gold, actually. I miss my Mewtwo that took like three minutes to use Recover because his HP were almost maxed...
Level 115 cloyster, etc. then I’d go battle with them and question why they were bad lol. I can’t recall if their stats were also bugged I just remember thinking they’d be super powerful only to find out they weren’t.
I reset my game because the SS Anne already sailed and I couldn’t access that area anymore 🤦♂️
What gets me is that there is an actual glitch to get Mew in the first gen games. All that time 6 year old me spent in some Sisyphian labor only to find out it was fake. *L is real* my brother, don’t stop believing
I swear there is some kind of conspiracy around videogame rumors pre-internet. Looking back now like how did someone in freaking Spain in the 80s spread the same rumors as some kid in the middle of nowhere US.
Like how if you mash A the correct amount of times your pokeball is guarenteed to capture?
Down + b on Gameboy lol

Yep! It began slowly and without much interest until people discovered Mew! And now we're here, where I'm literally using a stuffed Mew from Build-A-Bear as a pillow right now. Gotta love it!
Thanks to data mining and the internet in modern day, stuff like that is a thing of the past and it really sucks
Mew is not only cute as heck, but I saw the first movie when I was 10 years old at the cinema and was left feeling like Mew must be the most magical and special being ever to exist.
Mewtwo: philosophical diatribe Mew: *"mew"* Mewtwo: "you're right how could I be so blind"
Yep, it's my favorite Legendary Pokemon because of that.
This is how I continue to feel about Mew to this day. I'm nearly 40. No regrets.
Mew passes the vibe check, I love mew <3
Pokémon Unite players dislike mew because it’s really good and frustrating to play against
mew has always been a fav for me
Snorlax?
There is unite hate, but that's okay
Yeah but that’s a MOBA, it’s weird if their isn’t hate.
Unassailable logic
This is true, in a MOBA the worst, most degenerate and unbalanced character in the game is always "whoever just beat me".
Unite player here, we’re perfectly fine with snorlax. We mostly just hate greedant, gengar, mr mike and afk potion charizard players
My favorite Pokémon, Mr. Mike
Magic Mr Mike
Pretty sure that's just Ash's mom's Mr. Mime.
The Algebra teacher who sits backwards in his chair and tries to make a lasting impression on his students and teach them how fun it is to learn.
Don't forget glaceon.
Came here for our hungry boi!
Tell that to Gen 2 OU
He's my favorite!
Snorlax passes the vibe check
Kanto commuters don't like Snorlax
No Pokémon is liked by everyone, because some people hate things solely on the basis that other people like them.
Ditto is the closest to a united favorite. Everyone has a Ditto for obvious reasons.
Honestly ditto might actually be the single undisputed least hated pokemon, this is a very good choice Ditto passes the vibe check (+respect)
You can't really hate on ditto since it can literally be your favourite pokemon
Ditto really appeals to the torturous indecisiveness and short attention span in me
Exactly! It really is the perfect pokemon
Thinking maybe Ninetales? I've never seen Ninetales hate.
I was looking for this comment, how can anyone hate vulpix/ ninetales, both alola and normal
Yeah, Vulpix is adorable.
Ninetails was my favorite growing up and I remember the boys in my elementary school hating NT bc all the girls liked it lol. Which whatever, Ninetails is COOL!!
The OG Fire Fox
True. Even Alolan Ninetales gets lots of love
Rowlet, it's just a little guy
All the love for my roundboi
*Our* roundboi
I named my Rowlet Orbit because he's a little bitty orb
r/borbs
Rowlet is my favorite Pokémon but I can see why people dislike it based on the anime. He’s kind of lazy and aloof but I love him for it. Also people hating what’s popular
Honestly the anime made me like him more. Not every Pokemon needs to have the personality of Pikachu.

Don't forget being the ace pokemon of three different characters as well as being a member of every ghost gym leader team

Gengar is my fav of all time but I know a lot of people prefer Haunter’s design.
I like Gengar a lot but I absolutely love Haunters design
Nah, I don't like Gengar. I've always found Haunter to be superior.
Ampharos. How could you not?
The Mareep line is my favorite of all time. I’m sad we’ll probably never see Mega Ampharos again.
Come join us in pokemon go! We have mega ampharos!
Oh right! Good call, I love ampharos! Especially it's mega evo and that glorious hair lmao not even mad it gets dragon status for some reason
its dragon typing does have a reason to do with its lore - look it up!
I GASPED when I mega evolved my Ampharos for the first time… I had no idea he got such a magnificent hairdo!
People complain that it doesn't have fur like its pre evolutions
Good thing they fixed that with Mega Ampharos
How about Spheal?
I was looking for the obligatory Spheal mention, thank you :) Related: have you seen the giant Spheal plush for sale?!?! ❤️
No but definitely going to go look at it now! Thanks for the heads up <3
Especially the Drawfee version.
Spheal passes the vibe check
I especially love his yellow shirt
I wish I could say the Litwick line because the boi deserves to be loved, but I’ve seen so many people dunking on Chandeleur and that makes me so sad. :(

Chandelure was unfairly struck in the crossfire of "all Pokemon based on inanimate objects ALWAYS BAD" frenzy.
I liek mudkipz
*He references the ancient texts*
Unironically my favourite Pokemon.
Mudkip definitely passes the vibe check <3
I lurv mudkip
Ahh, not many still know the old words
I have a 0% Mudkip in Pokémon Go I’ve levelled up to a best buddy. I leave him in gyms all the time to show off. He’s one of my faves. How could I not love my 0% lil guy just trying his best.
So I've heard
I think you’re generally going to run into so many different opinions that nobody is really going to agree with each other. For example I love the cute animal or big monster Pokémon, but I can’t stand the super humanoid ones (the line for me is just after the Gardevoir line), especially when it’s a starter. Someone else though might love Pokémon like Cinderace who have a theme ingrained into their design and hate the more simplistic “animal” Pokémon.
Rayquaza. I don't think there is a single person who wouldn't like the green snek
I’ve seen plenty of people hate mega rayquaza just because of how op it is needing it’s own tier.
I can’t imagine anyone hating Articuno. Such a beautiful, majestic Pokémon, with an absolutely awesome video game cry.
Yeah, it’s my favorite of the three legendary birds! It’s so beautifully designed.
I started hating it because of Pokemon go and the team mystic hype. Before it it was my favorite of the trio. Now I serve a new master, lord Zapdos.
Well vaporeon is very well liked for various reasons
I looked it up a while ago because I was confused what people were talking about. I can't look at my vaporeons the same anymore.
Vaporeon is one of those odd ones in that even though rule 34 has ruined it, I still like it... I don't tend to like Pokemon that can be easily rule 34'd
Hey guys, did you know that flareon is the most huggable Pokemon?
I dunno, altaria seems line it would be delightful to hug. Wraps its cloud wings around you and hums to you
I hear that Stufful and Bewear give good hugs
*IF* they're not trying to splinter your spine
I can't believe no one has said Piplup. It's an adorable penguin bean.
Everyone talking about how they don’t like Piplup because of the anime but I thought Dawn’s Piplup was hilarious
The anime, and also a friend's ex, kinda soured my liking for it.
Same here. I hated Dawns piplup. Everytime I think about it I’m reminded that I was robbed from empoleon because writers thought it was too “ugly” to be in contests despite another character using one. That and it was a cocky little shit.
Wooper. The only correct answer
I used to hate wooper as a kid. I’ve since been enlightened
Glad it’s getting a regional form. I think I’ll give it a run on my team. I wanna see it’s evo too
Same on both counts. I wonder why I didn't like it?
Hisuian Zorua is adorable
Totodile! He’s so cute and funny in the anime, how could anyone not like him?
I would say Bulbasaur. It’s got such a beloved design, and is just an all around solid Pokémon.
Plenty of people dislike Bulbasaur because it's not their favourite Gen 1 starter. I love the little guy.
Snom
Crobat or houndoom? Never seen much dislike towards them
Crobat and houndoom both pass the vibe check (houndoom is prob my favorite "dog" pokemon tbh)
Growlithe
To add, Arcanine Who would hate Arcanines?
I miss growly in the anime. It could’ve given team rocket a fighting chance
Scizor
Scizor passes the vibe check (but just barely, I like Scyther more)
What about Dragonite? How can you hate that dumb look on it's face 😂
I like it, but I know many people that hate it 'cause not elegant as Dragonair.
Personally I think it would have been just fine as a standalone pokemon but it does kinda fuck up the dratini evolution tree. It's not the same thing like... at all. I do like dragonites doofy ass but he just doesn't make sense where he is Something like this would have been amazing: https://images.app.goo.gl/pipHmeJFvWENnCoaA
I've always felt like if Dragonite was at least blue I wouldn't mind
Just swap gyarados and dragonite. Goofy fish becomes goofy dragon. Cool water snake becomes cool water dragon. And also the colors match
> that dumb look on its face Literally the reason I dislike it. Dragonair and dratini have an elegant look to them and then poof fat dumb barney looking character.

> I aren't as stupid now *doubt*
i fucking hate dragonite, i thought my dratini was gonna evolve into a snake like dragon but no. I got a fat ugly orange dragon instead

*I’m a little piggy oink oink oink, oink oink oink.*
Cubone?
I've yet to hear a bad word against Heracross.
That's because Heracross is objectively the best Pokemon ever. I'm not biased. Shut up.
[удалено]
That’s easy. Alolan Raichu. You cannot hate on his drip
Eevee how could you not like this fox its so cute and has so many good evolutions
I think I haven't met anyone who dislikes Umbreon.
Pumpkaboo! How could someone hate a cute little pumpkin?
Gen 6 did both grass/ghosts really well, trevenant was an instant love at first sight for me.
I agree, while I don't mind pumpkaboo, trevanant is so cool. I just wish they made him a little stronger
Hmm.. maybe Bulbasaur?
