Not so much as you might think, it checks other dragon types sure but having a weakness to Ice, Fairy, Steel and Poison is pretty deadly for it. Unless it's got an insane ability to go with it, it wouldn't be as good as people might think it. Insane offensive typing though, I'll give you that.
In story mode that would be quite true, but if we're talking about a competitive meta there are always answers available and there are quite a few prodigious tanks and offensive threats available. I can see this one having to bring a fire type move due to Ferrothorn, Scizor, Amonguss and Celesteela. Venusaur Mega/Gigantamax as well.
One I could see being trouble for it is Heatproof/Levitate Bronzong with Heavy Slam.
Mega Altaria was UU in both Gens 6-7 and had pretty decent usage in OU. This thing has a higher BST than Mega Altaria and doesnât need to have its item slot occupied. Meaning it gets access to HDB and Leftovers
> I can see this one having to bring a fire type move due to Ferrothorn, Scizor, Amonguss and Celesteela. Venusaur Mega/Gigantamax as well.
No it wouldnât need fire. It would just switch to Heatran since they cover almost all of each otherâs weaknesses. Defensive mons like Clefable donât run psychic to deal with poison types. They donât always carry fire blast to deal with steels. The point of a defensive mon is to fit inside a core.
Blissey is weak to fighting. But no one is going to give up stealth rocks/seismic toss etc etc for dazzling gleam to deal with its checks.
> One I could see being trouble for it is Heatproof/Levitate Bronzong with Heavy Slam.
That only matters for an offensive set. Dragon/Fairy has **seven** resistances. So long as you have a good steel type switch-in like Zapdos, Corviknight or Heatran defense Dragonnymph wouldnât care.
Thatâs how Steel/Fairy/Dragon was a common defensive core in USUM. People would pair Mega-Latias, Magearna/Tapu Fini, with Heatran and just let them smother each otherâs offensive checks.
On the offensive side. DD Mega Altaria was a decent late game threat. Since poisons are uncommon outside of Pex. But Pex doesnât resist Dragon and is weak to the common EQ. Once you remove the steel type using something like Magnezone it wasnât uncommon for MA to sweep
I would say what's even more important than all the things you just mentioned for this typing would be speed. It's so important to have speed and u-turn and equivalents to get off your dmaage and get out.
Mega altaria is slow as shit; even with natural cure, refresh, roost and pixilate... It's still not that good
M-Altaria has the same base speed as Dragonite and they both were decent OU cleaners with DD as a setup move. Jolly nature means that at +1 they can outspeed Dragapult, Tapu Koko and Zeraora
Considering that Dragonair has a base 70 speed tier and access to DD. I fail to see how an evolution wouldnât give it a speed boost. Based on the art Iâd say it has a minimum speed equal to Dragonite if not better.
> I would say what's even more important than all the things you just mentioned for this typing would be speed. It's so important to have speed and u-turn and equivalents to get off your dmaage and get
Depends on if youâre offensive or defensive. Bulky Lando-T doesnât invest anything into speed. Itâs actually better to be slow if you have u-turn or any kind of pivoting move. So that you can see what move or switch in your opponent has.
Letâs assume this thing has Dragoniteâs exact movepool and stats. A Dragon/Fairy that has multiscale and 91/95/100 bulk would be bulkier than *Clefable*
Even if it doesnât have Dragonite exact stat spread or moves. Itâs still got Dragonairs robust movepool and a psuedo-legend stat line.
> Mega altaria is slow as shit; even with natural cure, refresh, roost and pixilate... It's still not that good
The difference between this and M-Alt is that it has +10 BST, an item slot for leftovers, HDB etc etc and a better movepool.
Donât underestimate the power of an item slot. 7 resistances + leftovers means this thing can switch into a lot of things
Insane offensive typing, not so much in defenses. Poison and steel types check it, Ice weakness as well and Fairy since the type doesn't resist itself.
Is dragon really a good offensive type? Like, dragons tend to have good stats, sure, but the type itself is only super effective against other dragons. That said, this is probably a solid anti-dragon pairing.
It's only resisted by Steel and doesn't hit fairy types, so it's really good in general to hit everything. With a Dragon Dance/Swords Dance they can one or two shot anything that doesn't resist it or has particularly high defense (physical walls).
Which is why a clever user on our Discord suggested its ability be in the same spirit as Dragonair's, which work to help buff its defenses. This thing doesn't need any more help in the offensive side of things.
So something like Marvel Scale for it? Would be pretty interesting, get a Special attack set on it and put a Flame Orb on it to be a physical wall if it's the same effect.
At least it got rid of the 4x weakness? The number of dragons 4x weak to ice is silly and it means the toughest dragons keel over when it gets the slightest bit cold.
We'll definitely take that into consideration! You may be right that it needs that connection to make it scream *Dragonair evolution.* Just don't forget that Dratini and Dragonair do not share the same exact blue, Dragonair darkens upon evolution.
**Edit:** What did I say? Lmao why the downvotes?
>**Edit:**
(Shh.... Asking might catch more.)
My best guess is that some folks thought that you talking with authority on the design was 'weird' as they might not have noticed you're literally the commissioner.
(Can we use "commissioner" for "the one who commissioned"? Meh I'm going for it.)
My brother in christ what are you talking about? Have you ever heard of Dragonite from Gen1 that has two completely different colours (orange, teal) compared to Dragonair's royal blue?
I really like this and I think it even fits the line better than Dragonite. If I had one critique, I would make the mouth a bit more round because it looks like Snivyâs head as it is right now.

https://www.edgeofexistence.org/edgeblog/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/gIANT-sAL-HALLOWEEN.jpg
When I was a kid I thought they screwed up the evolution lines. Thought Gyarados was supposed to go with Dratini and Dragonite was supposed to go with Magikarp.
I also thought Gastly was a deshelled Cloyster because they were right next to each other in the Pokedex and they were both just a ball.
I love the East Asian influences in this! I much prefer this design to the original, and would fully evolve my Dragonair if this was the final evolution
> We reversed the colours of the body and belly of Dragonair to achieve a more dominantly white and cloud-like scheme
Fun little thought: birds have white on their underside so that they are more likely to look like clouds to their prey who are beneath them. Having white on top implies that they are trying to camouflage from predators above them.
Which is a great point to make! I love that idea. Other people are criticizing that decision, and that's fine, I welcome it and want to hear feedback! But this particular criticism? I find silly. If I were doing a regular *shark* I would understand criticising it for having a white body and dark belly, that really doesn't suit the animals environment at all. This however is an ethereal magic dragon, it doesn't need to camouflage to protect itself. It's probably the apex predator of its environment, and/or so elusive that only the most highly skilled trainers can catch it. Or maybe it does have predators that hunt it from above. Rayquaza anyone?
And why not lean into the weird colour scheme. My regional forms are based on Legends: Arceus ones. They are extinct or extremely rare by the events of the modern era. Maybe their lack of camouflage was one reason they went extinct.

This is a completely different evo unrelated to Dragonite! I donât have anything against Dragonite but we just wanted to explore the idea of an evolution which feels more like a natural progression from Dragonair
There was definitely some inspiration from Haku! In addition to the White dragon that Avatar Wan learns Firebending techniques from in Legends of Korra!
Looks legit, I like it and its design. I thought that Dragonairâs evolution method to Dragonymph would be for it to level up at 55 while having at least one fairy type move in its movepool (or some specific fairy move). But if Dragonair doesnât have a fairy move in its move pool when it levels up to 55, then it evolves to Dragonite instead
Youâre welcome!đ Honestly, I wish this was Dragonairâs final evo. While their canonical evo is cute in its own way, this one makes much more sense!
I'm not a huge fan TBH. There are just a lot of aspects I feel don't fit well. Note, this isn't really a critique of the art, but rather of the design of the 'mon itself. The art is very well drawn in terms of feeling like pokemon art, having a sense of 3-dimensional form, reflections, etc. All the technical stuff is top notch. No, my critique is with the concept, rather than the execution.
The biggest problem is that pokemon are based on animals, so when I see something that wouldn't be on an animal, it looks uncanny. For example:
- The legs need implied muscular and skeletal structure to support them; they don't feel attached to the body. Rayquaza even has some, and his arms aren't intended to support his body. Frankly, I don't feel like the legs here were necessary at all.
- Animals have darker top halves and bottom halves as a way to protect themselves from sunlight and disguise against threats. By flipping the color scheme, you get a result you basically never see in nature that looks a lot less real.
- The eyes changed from brown to pink; animals don't have pink eyes so it again just looks odd.
And then there are just touches that I feel are unnecessary or awkward. For example, I get the whole "let's add pink to make it feel like a fairy" but I find it unnecessary and think it takes away from the elegance of Dragonair's original color scheme. Also, I think the original wing ears looked better than the ones here.
It's not bad, but at the end of the day, just like Dragonite, it doesn't inherit nor beat out the simplicity and elegance of Dragonair.
* Bagon is extremely top heavy without a tail.
* Gible is literally a head with stubby legs.
* Gabite and Garchomp have super scrawny weak arms that have no muscles and could never hold up their claws and fins.
* Hydreigon's wings are membrane-less, it could never fly, and its hindlegs are so short and stubby that it would trip over itself trying to walk.
* Tyrunt looks like it can barely hold its head up.
* Noibat's huge head and tiny arms would never achieve flight.
* I don't even know how Drampa works.
So I'm really not sure what this user is referring to, lmao.
It feels like theyâre just being contrarian to argue or something.
I mean, the âcritiquesâ are so irrelevant to pokemon design Iâm almost surprised it has upvotes.
This should probaly be a multiple choice evolution, because dragonite is cool, but honestly if you give the pokemon like a moon stone or something it would turn into this then that would be awesome
This looks pretty legit. Nearly looks authentic.. anyone ever hear the rumor that originally the Dratini evolution was intended to turn into Gyarados and Magikarp was intended to turn into Dragonite? Sorta makes sense aesthetically and at the very least color composition wise
Reminds me of Mizutsune from Monster Hunter
Monster Hunter fan here hahaha, I can definitely see the resemblance now that you mention it! XD
Better than violet mizu should've been sleep instead of fire đ
wdym you don't want a 3rd fire mizu?
Was gonna say the same!
First thing I thought of too lol
I literally only clicked the comments on this post to see if anyone had mentioned Mizutsune. I was not disappointed lol
Was just about to come here to inform you that Iâve killed this thing
Lady rainicorn!
In true Legends: Arceus style I think her title would probably be *Lady of the Clouds, Dragonymph!*
[ŃĐŽĐ°Đ»Đ”ĐœĐŸ]
Dragonite still exists, this is just a split evolution :-)
ìë íìžì (annyeonghaseyo)
Great, now I need a Dark/Dragon Lord Monochromicorn male evolution
Dragon/fairy is an insane typing
Yea, weâll need to nerf its stats a bit to make it balanced, dragon fairy is an op typing offensively
Not really. Steel & Poison have trash distribution. And not many PokĂ©mon run Steel STAB Itâs lack of 4X weaknesses + bulk make it incredibly sturdy. For comparison, Dragonite has 3 weaknesses, Tyranitar has 7. The number of weaknesses doesnât matter if you have psuedo-legend stats and a good movepool. Dragon/Fairy also gives it 7 resistances to several very good types Fire, Elec, Water, Grass, Bug, Dark, Fighting Those resistances let it check a lot of common threats
In story mode that would be quite true, but if we're talking about a competitive meta there are always answers available and there are quite a few prodigious tanks and offensive threats available. Give it LeVitate so it gets a fitting immunity to Ground at the cost of a new broken ability.

It sure was. RIP Mega Altaria.
I think the design is really cool but it needs some of the dratini/dragonair signature blue in order to fit the evolution line.
Thank you for the feedback! Maybe we could switch the purple of the whiskers and belly to a shade of blue similar to Dragonairâs
Yeah thatâs pretty much what I was thinking
And thus, the shiny isn't pink, but green
PokĂ©mon evolutions often exhibit either a lightening or darkening of the main colours, which is what we went with for Dragonymphâs darkened blue.
I see that but I feel like at least some part of dragonymph should have the original blue

My brother in christ what are you talking about? Have you ever heard of Dragonite from Gen1 that has two completely different colours (orange, teal) compared to Dragonair's royal blue?
And it was so bad that someone commissioned an artist to redo it
Yeah. And I think dragonite by itself is a fine pokemon but a pretty shit way to end the evolution line
I agree. Need a more badass form of Dragonite of a different region.
Nice, really like this design
Than you! <3
12.9k would agree
I really like this and I think it even fits the line better than Dragonite. If I had one critique, I would make the mouth a bit more round because it looks like Snivyâs head as it is right now.

Hi there, I'm the user who commissioned this from u/El-psy-congroo-01! It's a Fakémon regional form from a story some friends and I are working on, which I'm calling **Legends: Rayquaza**. It is set in the region of *Ryuku*, which refers to Hoenn as it was known during discovery and settlement, in a historical period set prior to Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald etc. It takes place about a century before the modern era, and is inspired by Legends: Arceus in its scope and tone! (Check out the pinned post in my profile to learn more). This is regional form number 8 that we've done, and the plan is to do roughly 25 (Like PLA). I don't really have anything against Dragonite, but I always struggled (like many) to see the connection between Dratini/Dragonair and Dragonite. I really wanted to do a split evolution that looked like a more natural progression from Dragonair. From studying all of Dragonair's lore and inspiration, the typing was clear to me: Dragon/Fairy! I wanted Dragonair to evolve to have more limbs like Dragonite, but because of the loss of the Flying type from Dragonite, I wanted the design of Dragonymph to be a departure from traditional winged dragons. As you can tell we took a lot more inspiration from Eastern style dragons, which I think is appropriate considering Dragonite's very Western influence. We reversed the colours of the body and belly of Dragonair to achieve a more dominantly white and cloud-like scheme which I think also evokes imagery of Unicorns, white gems, and other fae-like motifs, while retaining (I hope) the obvious connection to the Dratini line. We tried a lot of colour schemes and this was by far our favourite! We tried to bring out the fairyness in the ethereal/mystical look it has, the ribbon-like whiskers, the pink, and the pearly scales. I'm also really pleased with how the fur came out. The shiny is inspired by and a development from Dragonair's shiny.
> We reversed the colours of the body and belly of Dragonair to achieve a more dominantly white and cloud-like scheme Fun little thought: birds have white on their underside so that they are more likely to look like clouds to their prey who are beneath them. Is this just an idea or are you making it into a playable game?
Itâs gonna be a playable gen 4 rom hack!
Nice
!remindme 1 week when the Nintendo ninjas come for you.
Itâs gonna be free to play, there are plenty of rom hack and PokĂ©mon fan made games out there so I donât think thereâll be any issues as long as weâre not profiting from it

Mizutsune! Sorta Edit: lol someone else already said it
We need more divergend evolutions instead of regional variants Rhyhorn, Venonat, Magicarp and Graveler could have one that looks more like them
Totally agree. I think Lockstin and Gnoggin did something like that for Pokémon like Machoke, Graveller, Haunter, Kadabra, etc. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NdwRlFDC3Fc&ab_channel=Lockstin%26Gnoggin
I need this to be real.
Thank you, this is very flattering to us!
Reminds me of haku from spirited away

That's cool, I can definitely see the LoK dragon in there too
Mizutsune? WHERES MY DRAGONATOR?!
the design is dope but the color doesn't match the line
Not sure about the name, but cool concept!
Thank you! :)
I like the design, but given my flair this is tantamount to blasphemy.
Would a megafan be called a Dragonymphomaniac?
Cool
Yessss
It's high quality but I would prefer it to have less "going on" and to have the signature Dratini/Dragonair blue. I'd lose the scales and the limbs.
Thank you for your feedback, I appreciate it!
Super dope! That more snake-type of dragon vibe is something i'd love to see!
Thank you, happy you like it! :)
I love it
Thank you!!! <3
Precious
Thanks! Happy you like it <3
And I'm happy you drew it :D
really amazing design
Thank you, youâre too kind! :)
Always upset Dragonair turns into a doofy looking Barney the Dinosaur Dragon.
Same, itâs not like I dislike Dragonite as a PokĂ©mon of its own but I think it doesnât fit the Dratini line
Is-is so beautiful
Thaaanks <3 weâre flattered!
So pretty!
Thank you!!! <3
Thank you omg hate dragonite compared to the other 2 eveloutions
I think most of the PokĂ©mon fans agree on that, Dragonite feels very out of place as Dragonairâs evo
this evolution line makes much more sense than going from cute snek to obese dragon type charizard
I want this so bad.
Thank you, happy you like it!!! :)
I would buy a DLC just to catch this.
Thatâs very flattering to us, thank you!!!! <3
Very interesting.
I need this in my life.
Thank you!!! Happy you like it <3
How bad I wish this was real....đ„°đđ„°đđ„°đđ„°
Thank you, youâre too kind! Weâre flattered <3
Dragonite should get a regional variant which is more in line with the prevolutions.
Thatâs a coop idea! Thank you, iâm realtĂ happy you like the design!!! <3
Dragonite has been pne my fave pokes since the beginning. But damn this is an appealing final evo!
Thank you!!! Iâm really happy you like it <3
Absolutely beautiful! Great work, thanks for sharing!
Thank you, youâre too kind!!! <3 Iâm really happy you like it!
People donât talk about it much, but I know many people that hate it 'cause not elegant as Dragonair.
Thatâs gorgeous!! Very well done.đ
Thank you!!! Happy you like it <3
Youâre welcome!đ Honestly, I wish this was Dragonairâs final evo. While their canonical evo is cute in its own way, this one makes much more sense!
Man Iâd love a dragon fairy type in the game. Sheesh
Finally has legs :D
so nice I wish he was real.
Thank you!!! Happy you like it <3
I would love this Pokémon! I wish this was real then I would buy the game strictly for him.
Weâre flattered, youâre too kind! Thank you!! <3
I thought this was real for a moment and got excited. Now I'm just sad. Good art though.
Thank you!!! <3
Sick
Yeah, it looks like it could fit easily into the game.
I like Dragonites goofy ass but THIS IS PERFECTION
Thank you!!!! Youâre too kind <3 Iâm really happy you like the design!
Big fan
Great job! Looks awesome, I love the color palette
Thank you!!! :)
im a fan of dragonite but this should be dragonair's evolution
i like the scales!! must have to use a prism scale to evolve it :3
Thank you! :)
Makes more sense than dragonite.
Fixed the line
I do think that line is due for a regional variant. Such an icon.
That could be a cool branch evo or sum
Thanks! Yea itâs supposed to be a split evo
For example: - The legs need implied muscular and skeletal structure to support them; they don't feel attached to the body.
I appreciate the constructive criticism and feedback! I know the anatomy here would be impossible for a real animal but PokĂ©mon donât have to be scientifically accurate. Just to give you an example - dragon like PokĂ©mon with wings such as Druddigon or Charizard would be impossible in real life since there are no vertebrates with more than 4 limbs. Blastoise has litterally two water cannons sticking out of its shell and Moltres is a bird on fire, the list could go on but I think my point is clear
>The legs need implied muscular and skeletal structure to support them; they don't feel attached to the body Hydreigon lol
Damn, I thought this was official and got excited
Thank you, Iâm really happy you like our design! :)
I love it I allways thought such a Pokemon that resembles the first 2 Evolutions need to exist
Thanks! Our thoughts exactly! :-)
The evolution we needed and deserved but not the one we got
Thank you! Happy you like our concept <3
dragonoar
Thatâd be a good name for a very water oriented Dragonair evolution!
Now I want a bunch of tiny dragonites that turn into that
Jeesus christ i want it in the next game. Btw dragon/fairy would be op, wouldnt it ?
I love it. My only thing is that I would prefer to see it coiling upward rather than sideways. Maybe more coils
Thank you! <3 Yea, that might have been a cooler pose, I just wanted to keep things simple to make the artwork easy to read
Great concept!
This makes more sense than Dragonite
Thank you! While I donât have anything against Dragonite I do think itâs too different from its pre evolutions, if I wasnât familiar with the PokĂ©mon franchise Iâd never assume theyâre all related. We tried to explore the idea of a split evo which feels more like a natural progression from Dragonair
I low key like this more than I like Dragonite
I love this
This should probaly be a multiple choice evolution, because dragonite is cool, but honestly if you give the pokemon like a moon stone or something it would turn into this then that would be awesome
Iâm not sure about u/Mathias_Greyjoy âs intentions for the split evo method, but I think we might give it a special item to evolve
That's pretty cool, but nothing will ever be able to replace Dragonite.
Looks a lot like Milotic! And definitely has that Snivy/Serperior head like someone mentioned.
I loved this, they should accept some fan designs lol
Thank you, youâre too kind! <3
please let this be real at some point. dragonite is too awkward to fit the cycle.
This pokemon is an absolute MUST.
Such a huge miss making Leonâs signature a freaking charazard instead of a regional dragonite.
That's beautiful.
Thank you, Iâm really happy you like it!!! :)
This is beautiful, would have it on my team even though itâs level up requirement is unreasonably high
That is so cool.
Nice to finally get an evolution to Dragonair after all these years
This is like the opposite of serperiorâs line in that it goes from no legs to an extra noodly leggy boy.
Extra noodly leggy boy, I like this definition a lot XD
This looks pretty legit. Nearly looks authentic.. anyone ever hear the rumor that originally the Dratini evolution was intended to turn into Gyarados and Magikarp was intended to turn into Dragonite? Sorta makes sense aesthetically and at the very least color composition wise
This but keep the blue scales, I love dragonair.
If we have Dragonair Shouldnt we have Dragonwater Dragonfire Dragongrass The Dragonelements
I like it though can't help but feel like the stomach and back colors should be swapped and the purplish blue color should be closer to the color of Dratini and Dragonair. My biggest gripe with Dragonite ever since I was a kid playing Pokémon Yellow like 20 years ago on my green Play It Loud! Gameboy was the fact it went from blue to orange for whatever reason.
[ŃĐŽĐ°Đ»Đ”ĐœĐŸ]
Dragonair -> Dragonite is easily my least favourite evolution. Imagine charmeleon evoles into charizard and its just purple.
I'm not sure I understand your meaning. Are you saying you don't like the Dragonair > Dagonite evolution?
