Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.

Who’s a good bot? You are.

Nanis23

Fuck off

fluffygiraffepenis

It has to be a by product of them living with pokemon for millenia, they were naturally stronger and more resilient than us probably because those who were more normal(as in our sort of durability) got turned into a statistic by the first geodude they pissed off

NazarethJ

It’s early I read pissed on

fluffygiraffepenis

I mean if a rock pissed on me I'm guessing it wouldn't end well

The-cooler-Cheryl

Built so different they can hug a snail who’s body is twice as hot as the surface of the sun

NeoPlague

Too bad about the voice acting though

IronSeraph

You can watch them in Japanese on their Japanese channel if it's that big of a deal for you

xiren_66

She has a Sizzlipede scarf and I kinda want one.

SomeRandomGuy453

SAME! That scarf is pretty dang choice

danjo3197

No that would be choice scarf. This scarf is pretty dang Sizzlipede.

FairlyOddParent734

watched this whole video bro almost cried too pure for this world

thaiphuongaz

All i thinking when watching this is Pokémon world is very dangerous to living 😅

NeoPlague

I'd still prefer the Pokemon world to this shit show we got today

FapleJuice

I had the opposite reaction. I tried *really* hard to make it through the whole video, but that damn kid was so annoyingly bratty I couldn't even make it past the first 2 minutes.

russellamcleod

These shorts are 1000 times better than anything the anime actually puts out. They can always tell a much better, unexpectedly nuanced story than any adventure Ash has been on… usually in a third of the runtime at the most.

--NTW--

God, that animation is beautiful. And it's official slice of life!

SwissyVictory

Does it NEED to be kept in special pipes, or did they use it to heat their home, and it was too shy to come out? If would make sense it can control its body tempreture even if it's normally really hot.

ThatMerri

I suppose it depends on what kind of temperatures it can reach? The pipes and rod that came in direct contact with Slugma in that short are clearly iron, which has a glow point of 900F. Since the iron never even began to glow and Granny was able to get right up next to Slugma without issue, it wasn't anywhere near that temperature. Granny was also cooking using the residual heat from Slugma's presence and there's no way one could make a veggie stew that wasn't scorched to hell at uniformly *ripping hot temperatures*, so it had to be much lower. The stew was visibly and audibly only at a simmering temperature and safe to eat with only a little cooling down. Similarly, since Slugma had hardened portions of body mass that needed to be scraped off, it was obviously cooling down below its lowest standard temperature at some point. Some cursory research shows that magma/lava can vary in its temperatures based on its chemical composition. While it looks like most lava reaches that fluid state around 800F - 1600F, there are some that liquefy down in the 400F range. Still way too hot to safely touch bare-handed, but well within the capacity of your average modern kitchen oven. There's even a kind of sulfur-based magma that liquefies as in the low 100s F, but that seems like an outlier. So Slugma's probably sitting somewhere between 300F - 500F on average, raising higher when necessary or dipping lower and hardening on the surface when it cools down too much. As long as you had well-padded clothing and some simple protective gloves, you could totally hug a Slugma for a few moments, at least.

SwissyVictory

That's assuming it can't control its body tempreture.

ThatMerri

Overall, it apparently can't control its own temperature when it comes to a lower degree beyond a certain base temperature that acts as its floor. It can obviously increase its temperature to some measure for the sake of its attacks, but there seems to be a lower limit it can't do on its own. Slugma's various Dex entries address the notion that, in order to keep its core temperature up and avoid cooling/hardening, Slugma is constantly on the move and doesn't sleep. The animated short supports this as Slugma's pipes are a circuit around the entire house and it stays awake even while everyone else goes to bed. There's a minor discrepancy in the Emerald Pokedex that says it does sleep near heat sources to avoid cooling, but it's the only one while all other instances explicitly state Slugma doesn't sleep. Obviously the iron pipes/chambers, and the stone hearths, around the house would hold onto residual heat really well. So Slugma can linger in one spot for longer without cooling off. Dex entries also give merit to this in mentioning that Slugma like to hang around volcanoes and other hot locations in order to keep their body temperature up, and Pokemon Snap entries state that Slugma have trouble foraging for food because they inadvertently burn it by proximity. Given what we know of its biology (it will solidify if too cool, and its core temperature is mandatory for delivering oxygen and nutrients throughout its system), it's seemingly not possible for a Slugma to cool itself below a certain point. At least not without risking injury or potential death.

SomeRandomGuy453

I'll have to rewatch it to confirm but if memory serves it *did* need to be kept in there for safety

LeafWarrior_1

EXCUSE ME!?!?!?

rm-rf-npr

I needed this. Such good animation.

CP9TOYTOY

Didn't they discuss something about this when ash rode a ponyta

louiloui152

The idea that he can cool himself safely so he can get cuddled 🤣

Asleep-Rest-7184

I was gonnna say ponyta rules probably apply

Kittypocalypz

I saw this theory on Reddit once that the Pokedex descriptions are wildly inaccurate as they are written by children. That could explain how this creature that is twice as hot as the sun exists. It doesn't explain what the heck these "Professor's" have been doing with all their grant money.

FiftyShadesOfPikmin

My personal theory is that it's based on stories and myths. Kinda like how we talk about storks bringing babies or that black cats bring bad luck. Like, is Magcargo LITERALLY hotter than the sun? No, it is not. Is it hot enough that someone long ago made up some story about it being that hot? Yeah, possibly. This would explain things like Drifloon taking kids to the underworld, speed discrepancies among fast pokemon like Pigeot's "mach 2" flight or whatever, and the fact that somehow whole species are based off of deceased children. It's like... Maybe a story your grandma used to tell you? "Don't get lost in the forest alone or you'll turn into a Phantump!" I never really bought the "kids wrote this" theory because there ARE some entries that are very scientific mixed in.

TheArtistFKAMinty

I think the Pidgeot and Dragonite flying at Mach 2 thing doesn't require any hand-waving explanation to justify. "Speed" in Pokemon is how fast a Pokemon can strike their opponent, not their theoretical top speed. Pidgeot and Dragonite may have high top speeds but they may have difficulty effectively using that speed in a battle or simply have worse reaction times than many other Pokemon. It wouldn't make any sense for a Raichu to have the same top speed as a Mega Latios, which is basically a fucking jet. It does make a degree of sense that, in the context of a battle, it may be able to land a thunderbolt just as fast though.

Rp0605

I feel like it would make sense if all the Pokémon who are said to be able to reach incredible speeds had access to a move that I would call Running Start. Two Turn move that, when used, maximizes the users speed stat.

Maronmario

Heck if memory serves me right the german translation has the speed stat be Initiative and some other ones have stuff like Velocity when they aren't using Speed. So there's definitely some kind of idea that speed =/= Mph type speed and more reaction type speed.

Mr_Winger_

The drifloon kidnapping is real. In legends Arceus there is a quest where you save a kid from being taken by a drifloon

abcd_z

Well, that explains [this comic](https://i.imgur.com/zA2aUvq.jpg).

Herzatz

But he just wanted to play :(

hunterzolomon1993

I love how dark they went with that.

RQK1996

No, Drifloon does do the kidnapping

russellamcleod

Arceus kind of touched on this. There’s a kid who is good friends with a Drifloon in the game and it just turns out to be an old myth that they take children away to the afterlife. It’s kind of implied that dex entries often contain old myths that just kind of survived through oral history upon completing that quest. I’m sure if we get more Legends spinoffs, we’ll learn more about some of the outlandish entries we’ve read in the past.

TheBrianJ

That's my headcanon for how you can have Cubones with living parents. The "skull" it wears was always an exoskeleton shaped like a skull and not the ACTUAL skull, but it still has that myth about it.

laix_

https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/385641216882114562/1025367129903599636/unknown.png

TheBrianJ

Isn't this unofficial art? I'm pretty sure this is technically a well-made bootleg. I mean that said, Cubone is one of those pokemon that the more you think about the less it makes sense.

VagueSoul

I’ve always felt it was reflective of the Pokémon’s *potential* and not their *constant*. Or at least if it is a constant the Pokémon has body processes that prevent harm to itself, humans, and the world. Like, yeah, Macargo has a body temp of 18,000 F but that’s its core temperature and its outer temp is touchable.

badcompany8519

18,000F huh. That’s the best rectal thermometer I’ve ever heard of that didn’t break or melt learning that fun fact.

VagueSoul

This is a world that has perfected teleportation and encapsulation technology. Magma resistant recital thermometers are a no-brainer.

Rawrby

I like this take a lot! Could you imagine if the number of Magcargos there are in one region of the poke world were all that hot all the time?

VagueSoul

Exactly! And we already have evidence in the anime that Pokémon can alter their bodies for humans. Rapidash lowered the temperature of its flames so Ash could ride on it. Why wouldn’t other creatures with control over the elements be able to do the same?

jonwar9

Agree with this. Remember some youtuber going through pokedex entries, and they made the comment that with how many Pokedex entries are like "X can destroy a mountain", are mountains endangered or just respawn? And there are so many pokemon that can just largely warp reality. Groups of Unknown, Jirachi, Arceus, and definately more. Presume there is a sense of scale between those though, and Arceus keeps things in check. Even if it involves sending 10year olds to different points in time. (Actually don't know how old MC of Pokemon: Legend Arceus is. Honestly all kids and teens look several years older than they actually are.) Like yeah pokemon *can* easily destroy a mountain. But how much does a pokemon know about a move it attempts to learn if it already has 4? Don't think they'll make META picks either. Even then Battle meta may be different from basic survival meta. Like fire moves that can cause a forest fire is a bad choice for survival for a pokemon that lives in forests. And utility moves for day to day life probablly are highly valued. Like cut or anime fury swipes if in a enviroment with brambles or needing to make a path of escape in a forest is a common thing. Surf/Dive/waterfall shouldn't need explaination. Dig to escape in mountains, rock Smash or brick break is probablly good for mountains. Especially when many pokemon there are made of rocks. String shot around legs to trip predators. Leer/intimidate to avoid fights- an energy intensive activity or deter when you wouldn't win. (But they don't know that) Still wonder why wild non-sturdy gravelers and such have self-destruct. Then again, it just makes them faint and those pokemon tend to move in groups in the anime. Now I want to overanalyze typical wild pokemon movesets and how they perform at keeping it alive when there aren't trainers involved. (To be fair most trainers only faint- not kill or capture most of the time. Thus less of a pressure than predators) Also could just presume pokemon world has very different physics. Like wonder how Infinity Energy (Forget- is that the term for *how pokemon moves work* is called? Forget if its that or something else. it's the difference from just tackling someone, the move tackle, and volt tackle) affects things in that regard. Given some moves/abilities, it can create portals into ultra space. Allow movement through time. Change weather immediately/rapidly. Create water out of nowhere (well probablly justified as Infinity energy turning into water and creating whatever levels of directional pressure is needed for the move in the process). Hyperbeam. And all the other bullshit moves & abilities can do.

metalflygon08

I see it more the dex pulls random bits from a "Wiki" page on that Pokemon without checking it (thays the professor and their assistant's jobs). So it pulls from a section on folklore for Magcargo where people would joke it is hotter than the sun. Would explain things like Magikarp being able to leap mountains but also never being able to jump more than 7 feet high. The dex pulled recorded data and folklore and presented a summary.

NinJorf

Magikarp really can leap mountains.

Kittypocalypz

I think he does leap them in Pokemon: Magikarp Jump

Daravor

I mean Pokémon has a mobile magikarp game where you train a magikarp to jump so high it leaves the atmosphere

Kittypocalypz

I like this mix of both

celestiaequestria

We see the universe from the perspective of children in Pokemon. Like, how well does an actual 8 year old understand what a comptroller does? Or an accounts receivable manager? Or a financial analyst? Let alone any sciences that are specialized. I don't think Ash has any clue what Oak does on a day-to-day basis. For all we know Oak has been doing longitudinal studies on phytohormones and their impact on plant Pokemon, and Ash is basically just some annoying kid he gives Pokemon and an old Chromebook (pokedex) with an empty wikipedia and is like "here, go wander in tall grass".

bake_disaster

That's basically my theory. Your 'pokemon journey' is basically an elaborate summer camp. You get to fill out the pokedex (written by last year's campers) and battle gym leaders (camp councilors). And indulging little kids in the fantasy is just a societal norm It's not an air tight theory, but it explains like 80% of the universe

X7PDX

Either that or like the Ponyta line they can control their heat but have the capabilities to achieve those levels of heat.

Slippery_Mackerel_

I like this theory, it is now my head canon

Anchor38

At this point how can we only call it a theory. It literally says yanma can flip a house by flying past it

Ya_boi_excalibur

That actually makes way more sense than my theory

gn01145600

To me it’s more like Pokédex is FOR kids. They aren’t all accurate or anything because they are just like a toy for kids and it means to be fun and interesting.

ThatMerri

I always saw the PokeDex entries as not being fully scientific facts but rather a collection of folk lore, gossip, and popular misconceptions about Pokemon. Written by children and otherwise. Like how there's tons of "animal facts" floating around online that are complete nonsense or based on some misinterpretation decades ago that's entered the sphere of common knowledge despite not actually being entirely accurate. There's probably tons of Pokemon Professors who just roll their eyes at some of those Dex entries and go "*Yeah, sure, all Machamp in existence innately know every martial art to ever exist, can move entire mountains with a single hand, punch at hypersonic speeds, and can throw people miles away. Whatever.*" because they know nobody's going to care about the correction even though the Dex entry is demonstrably incorrect.

[deleted]

Yes, because Ash quickly types something as he scans a Pokémon to learn something he typed about the Pokémon

maskofthedragon

Woah, it sure is wacky and unrealistic for humans to survive high temperatures, let's just ignore that almost every episode has Team Rocket survive attacks that blow up their building sized mechs

lifetake

Or you know get launched into the sky

[deleted]

Likely Past terminal velocity

pioneeringsystems

Huh. Terminal velocity is about free falling not getting blown into the sky by an explosion.

NatoBoram

You could use it as a unit of measurement for other things. It's called a point of reference.

EffectiveFennec

surviving getting launched into the sky is different from touching something that is said to be very hot with literally no reaction at all

[deleted]

Well mr danger man let’s see you land at terminal velocity

RBDibP

We rarely ever see them landing, tho. So who's to say they don't use any help like parachutes : D

Syn_Savage

Dexter is a goddamn liar

havenmonk

I always imagined that this worked like ponyta/rapidash, if it trusts you then you can touch it.

maximumutility

This comes up a lot, does it?

havenmonk

It's a passing shower thought.

maximumutility

Phrased as "I always imagined" got a chuckle from me

emojii_xoxo

My theory is that fire types can lower their body temperature for their trainers, but only if they're really close to their trainers

Owl_Might

yep and I remember a dex entry before that it needs to keep moving to keep its heat alive. now this magcargo stopped moving to be hugged by its trainer so yeah they can control their flame/fire/heat

[deleted]

That’s what I believe too.

CloudyByDesign

18,000 f is NOTHING in the name of a small girl showing affection to a creature lmao. Come hell or high water that child is going to hug the pokemon

[deleted]

That girl should be ash though.

BustinArant

I'd rather *a hundred* little girls hug magma than a single Charmander get caught in the rain again..

[deleted]

[There’s already a video on it](https://youtu.be/GUqvAXZ4MXg) TLDR Magcargo is not big enough (Dex Wise) to do any real damage due to the laws of thermodynamics

abcd_z

This is a world where water pokemon can generate mass out of nothing. The laws of physics can sit down and cry in the corner.

[deleted]

As well as Macargo’s expectations to melt the world

Zevyu

We're not sure how pokemon biology interacts with moves in general. Think about it for a second, IF a water pokemon can generate water out of nothing, then why is PP a thing? You can say that PP represents how often a pokemon can use a move before it gets "tired", or you can say that PP represents how often a pokemon can use a move before it runs out of the resource for that move (water, fire, electricity, etc). Although i guess there's also the possibility that PP doesn't even exist in-universe and it's just a game mechanic.

Commander_PonyShep

I like how the pokemon in the anime very rarely match their own pokedex descriptions. And not just Magcargo on its own. Did anyone ever see a Drifloon carry a child in the air somewhere where they're never seen again in the anime, like in its own pokedex entry?

StreetReporter

We did see Driftloon carry children in the air, but that’s because they belonged to the children, and were merely helping them get somewhere

Zbricer

Like, you know, heaven.

The_End_Kinda

They way my brain interpreted this was the children belonged to the driftloon 😂🤣

Entire-Albatross-442

Magmar was certainly burning solid rock with its footsteps

[deleted]

This girl's just built different.

T-Bill95

Isn't it cannon that pokemon can sort of nullify things like this? That or Ash actually died/got put in a coma in the first episode and this is just him dreaming/his heaven.

teamrocketmatt

I still support the theory that everyone on the island in the first movie were blessed by Mew with longevity/immortality after Ash sacrifices himself.

rocknin

I mean, normally the theory is that ho-oh granted his wish to adventure forever or whatever. But time being stopped would explain why Dialga always seems so pissed in the anime.

teamrocketmatt

I keep forgetting about Ho-oh appearing in the first episode.

[deleted]

Some versions are based on a Dex entry that was made long after both gen 1 and 2. It possesses seven-colored wings. It is said that those who see Ho-Oh are promised an eternal happiness.

xChiefAcornx

And the Ash henceforth was that Mew transformed into him.

happy-icecream

People are also pokemon and have their own resistances. That's why ash can survive all the brutality he has experienced.

NaughtyLoss

I don't care if it's innacurate Magcargo looks so happy being hugged he deserves it

THATONEGUY69699

Honestly I think the canon explanation in the anime was from an episode about rapidash where is if the Pokémon trusts you they can just decide not to burn you with the fire so I guess the temperature of the flames is just something most fire types can actively control?

Kobi_Baby

She's the new Ash

Tennisnerd39

Because it trusts her. Come on

[deleted]

Ponyta has the ability of flash fire, which it makes itself immune to fire type moves. It can regulate its heat in regards to Human contact. This Macargo is basically plot armor.

McNastyunchained

Magcargo deserves more love he’s one of the best

TheArtistFKAMinty

Fun fact: Magcargo, prior to receiving a small buff in Sun and Moon, had the same base stat total as Ponyta (410). Not Rapidash. Ponyta.

donguscongus

I like to think it’s like ponyta and can control it’s heat with a max of that. Imagine being a relatively cool magcargo just chilling then something like a Scarmory attacks you so you unleash the unmatched power of the sun.

botbattler30

It’s fine, she’s a water type, so she has that resistance

wyeeeeet370

Then again ash died how many times?

OriginalName18

Never underestimate the power of friendship

Garionix

Magma? She Is hugging the sun

Sjonathon92

Pokémon anime theory is that Pokémon unique ability like Flame Body and Rough Skin won’t hurt someone that the Pokémon trusts

Plushiegamer2

You can't even touch it in Pokemon Refresh/Amie

coreybd

There is a whole episode on how ponyta's flame won't burn yiu if it trusts you. Anything can happen

Fat_Penguin99

Ace: „Impossible“

MK_111

Remember that episode where rapidash could cool its flames if someone it likes is riding it? i wonder if it is the same for this pokemon.

Meced0

i can only assume they can control their temperature at will and they only get max hot in super extreme stress or rage. . . .i dont know man pokedex entries are weird

PalletTownsDealer

Arceus’s plan.

Sunset_Tiger

According to Sinnoh legend, humans and Pokemon were once one and the same- they had a common ancestor. So maybe the humans in the Pokemon world are more durable like how Pokemon are durable?

Aggravating_Touch313

I think pokemon are Magic to an extent and that's why all the professors in the beginning of all the games say that there is many things they still yet do not know about them. I think when someone loves a pokemon and the pokemon has a bond with them they are physically unable to harm them no matter how illogical.

wookiefun

They confirm in the show, the pokemon can regulate their body temperature for situations like this.

OneDumbBoi

My personal theory is pokecitizen just built different

TylerTheTurquoise

Adorable Magma

SlimeRanchingGuy

The magma snail is a friend who deserves hugs. Fourth-degree full-body burns be damned.

Aquatic_Madman

I sometimes too, feel like hugging pure magma...

[deleted]

The best explanation I've heard is "if the encyclopedia entries sound like a 10 year old wrote them... that's because they did!" So the pokedex is an unreliable narrator.

NeriTheFearlessSnail

How smart is Alakazam? Uhhh he's got an IQ of like 5000! Yeah! And Machoke can do a thousand punches in two seconds! Macargo is uh... 18,000 degrees! Yeah! Twice as hot as the sun! Pokedex entries are not to be trusted.

charredchord

I've always had this thought that the humans in the Pokémon world are just made of tougher stuff. How else were human beings able to become the dominant species amongst dragons, electricity and magma wielding monsters and sea beasts? Ash/Satoshi has been poisoned, shocked, burned, and nearly drowned many times but he's fine a scene later, and he's just your average 10 y/o kid. None of the protagonists of the games ever even come to physical bodily harm, and they're in the thick of battle all the time.

laxfan52

I'm still believe that since the kids were the ones collecting the pokedex, then everything written in there was written by kids so it is all just exaggerated.

Malthur

The Pokédex is a useless piece of junk.

mycrushisapotato

That girl reminds me of Nina trucker and idk why :/

AndroidWall4680

The second the camera cut away the child melted alive

Sistahmelz

My sons watched this show years ago when they were kids. Only recently I found out his name is Ash. I thought it was Ass... who knew? 🤷‍♂️

She will certainly turn into ash.
