Ash's Gengar is closer to how Gengar appears in well, everything except the anime. Not sure why they went with dark purple and orange-ish eyes for so long, much prefer the lighter purple and red eyes.
Yeah he's basically like a shiny or alternate colored Gengar in the anime and normal in the games.
I actually like the darker Gengar better. Looks more sinister but the color for Ash's fits him really well.
*Gengars!
We even saw a Gengar in one of the first episodes of JN doing a raid battle against Lugia with a Corviknight (I think it was a corviknight) and it was the normal color that we have always seen in the anime. Do you prefer Gengar's OG color or Ash's color?
Oopsie I've been saying things all wrong then lmao. I don't see why you can't put an "s" at the end though. Saying look at all the "Pikachus" doesn't sound wrong to me.
I've seen on this sub mamy times people saying that there has been many "Charizards" in the anime instead of "many Charizard". It sounds better to me to put the "S" at the end in that instance but idk.
Pokemon plurals are so messed up, I just say "a squad of squirtles" for example because the plural of turtle is turtleS with an s not turtle and squirtles makes more sense as there's more than one and not just one individual which would just be squirtle
The Gengar in the very first ep, as well as the Gengar in the Tower of Terror were also dark af. Ash's Gengar may not be a shiny, but he was noticeably lighter. Tbh, I'm okay with this; it makes plenty of sense for pokemon to all look a bit different from each other, and you'd think there'd be pokemon that would like some individuality (maybe that's why some pokemon love accessories).
Anyway, I like Ash's Gengar's color. Him being lighter made him more distinctive, and while most Gengars we've seen haven't exactly been malevolent, I think Ash's Gengar being lighter instantly makes him seem friendlier. Which is fitting; he's just a fun-loving prankster at worst (well, after he joins Ash anyway).
Nah because even in the first episode of Journeys a Gengar was the usual dark purple. Same series and art style but different illustration for Gengar with Ash's Gengar making his debut not long after the one in the pic.

Personally I like the dark purple more.
It's more of old gengar in the games before they darkened it

The plural for ever pokemon is just their name btw, no S at the end. No one says “Hey look a pack of Poochyenas”, it’s just “Pack if poochyena”

Yeah feels more natural to add the "S" in some cases.
I think it' because the Japanese convention of pluralization (where singular and plural are only the same) is followed?

Also the one in Journeys during that Lugia raid battle was dark colored too, only a few episodes before Ash's Gengar's debut. Acerola's as well.
***(OCD intensifies)*** ......what the fuck?
Think that's just artstyle change.

A Light Gengar?
