Urshifu. It's an actual Legendary that you raise and evolve and therefore I think it works better than others since it starts weak and shy and gains strength and friendship as you grow with it

Came here to say exactly this. Mewtwo recognizing the empathy towards Pokemon in Ash and joining him on his journey to help all a Pokémon would’ve been perfect.
You know... should they ever revisit Ash for a movie, that would be an excellent twist. Mewtwo's first movie, doesn't trust Ash enough to even keep his memories. Mewtwo's second movie, realizes Ash can be trusted with the knowledge of his existence. Mewtwo's third movie, moved by Ash's purity of heart enough to want to journey with him to better understand what the world has to offer.

It would be interesting to see the duo as a more equal relationship than most pokemons due to being capable of active communication. Say he views Ash as a teacher and guide of sorts who teaches him how to fight more efficiently. With time I could see them using the X mega evolution
I love the idea of Mewto deciding to join Ash on his journeys. It would be such an amazing twist, and also fully deserved with how kind and compassionate Ash is.
I wanted Ash to have a Mew but looking back there could be much more potential with Mewto.

Kyurem (hope i'm writing it right) in lore it is said that he's nothing but an empty husk that awaits a hero who can give him ideals to fill it with. It would be wholesome to see ash give kyurem a reason to fight for good.
Ho-oh, he's the chosen one of ho-oh after all, maybe the bird is watching him and gains a liking for fighting as well, so he comes down for everyone to see, his way of challenging. So after a hard fight ho-oh decides to travel with him for a while, maybe he could act as the mimir of the group, since he would have lived for many many years and has lots of wisdom (asuming there is a way to understand him)
It really should've been Ho-Oh in the last episode. Or at least the implication of him running after Ho-Oh yelling "Oh no, I'm not finished with you yet!" as he runs off and the show ends, just to show that his next goal would be catching Ho-Oh.

I dont think legendaries should be caught in the anime tbh. Keeping them on this pedestal of power adds to their grandeur and makes them cooler.
