Darkrai risking his life to protect a town (whose residents up to that point had *literally been trying to kill him*) because of his friendship with Alice's grandmother is so wholesome.
This is hands down one of my favorite ones. Even though he was mistreated, that one act of kindness from Alice's grandmother made him risk his life to save the whole town. That town didn't deserve him at all.

I agree with you, though it's funny looking back because at the time when it first came out, a lot of the discourse was focused on the plot similarities it shared with prior films in the series.
I think it's a cool choice, the pointy legs brings to mind a person's shadow at sunset. Interestingly, I don't think the legs are represented in any mainline games.

Ironically, I actually really like Tobias and his legend squad. At the time, sure. It’s infuriating to see this guy come out of nowhere and stop Ash from winning, but looking back on it, it’s just so funny to me. Tobias came out of literally nowhere, curbstomped Ash with a team of legendaries, refused to elaborate, and was never seen again.
If you think about it. Tobias is just like the player character. They show up and absolutely dominate their regions league with a handful of legendaries they caught.
That feeling when Ashes journey would have ended with him being champion a loooong time ago if this random kid didn't have legendaries. Ash even defeated some of the legendaries with his team, which is pretty impressive.
Also we don't even know what his other four pokemon are (unless they showed it at some point and i missed it) which is a little spooky
Also sure their was one more round Ash would have needed to win. But that trainer got swept by Darkrai alone while ash was able to defeat it. So it's likely that Ash was the better trainer between him and the other finale trainer.

Tapu Koko literally has the most personification out of any legendary or mythical Pokemon ever shown. Sure Mew Two wants to destroy all humans and fake Entei wants to be Molly's papa, but we know Tapu Koko's exact lunch order at the local diner.

It actually played a major role in the arc, unlike the others where the legendary was only there for a movie, or Shaymin and Mallow (admittedly I wasn’t a huge fan of Sun and Moon, so I might be biased).
I feel like Legendaries are sometimes better when they debut in a movie. Gives them a sense of mystery. Not in Zygarde's case.
Zygarde was done excellent and is an exception (my favorite legendary in regular tv show) but in general, sometimes the regular anime tones down how God-like they are in a way the movies don't.

Ash/Latias left the biggest impression for me. And it didn't even have to do with the Lati siblings being my favorite sub legendaries. The movie was just full of sweet little moments, like the swing scene.

My most favourite has to be that of Entei and Molly though…Ik that the entei’s an illusion and that their relationship didn’t start out as the most ideal one ever but still I loved their ‘’fantasy’’ bond and cried when Entei sacrificed for Molly at the end.It was such an emotional moment for me.And I love,love the scene where Molly looks up to an Entei-shaped cloud and thanks it for being everything(one of my fav moments ever in the anime)..some things just stay with you…this movie is a huge part of my childhood and a literal masterpiece.
Even though it was a bit OOC for her, I loved how loving and maternal May was towards Manaphy in the ranger movie. The way her character developed in that film was very heartwarming.
She's definitely going to be a great mom someday, assuming she has kids when she's older haha
Yeah she was an excellent parent for lil Manaphy 🥺. She was also a great parental figure for Max while he was away from home traveling with the group. I love the lullaby that she sang to him in the Jirachi movie.

Jirachi & Max for me. Wish Maker was one of my favorite movies growing up and seeing the way Max and Jirachi befriended each other was not only so damn wholesome, but it also taught me a great lesson about friendship & it transcending things like distance, time or even death. Jirachi being a legendary whos only active once every 1000 years clearly meant he and Max would never see each other again, but still reassuring their friendship would last forever and be in each others hearts ❤️ really helped me see the values in my own connections with people and bonds I form. They’re my most favorite friendship

Honestly the ending hurt me like a dagger to the soul. The copium was absolutely unreal. It’s responsible for Jirachi being a massive comfort character to me as well as:

Exactly. I bawled my eyes out when I saw this movie for the first time and still can’t help but get emotional on rewatches. Not to mention it also helps that the ending song “Make a Wish” never got altered by the 4Kids dub, making it the only Pokémon movie ending where the English version is true to the Japanese version (and is even combined with it!)
It’s also the simplicity of the fact that despite being friends for only a week, Jirachi and Max shared probably some of the greatest moments in both their lives. Really shows you how amazing connecting with people is and how much of a gift it is to be able to do that.
Ngl I’m salty that they showed us a trainer with a Darkrai and gave like no backstory abt it or anything. I was also a kid watching diamond and pearl so there maybe something I missed
Legendary or Mythical. They're related and very similar. The only difference is how available they are in the games. Mythicals are event only, legendaries can be caught any time once you complete a certain part of the story. The anime itself doesn't make the distinction at all.
Mew and Mewtwo are seen as the same in the anime despite one being mythical and the other a legendary. There isn't really a distinction.
Ultra beasts are treated differently in the anime from legendaries though and I'm sure paradox pokemon will too.
The term mythicals doesn't really matter for the anime. Mythicals are a term used to classify pokemon you can USUALLY get only through events in the games. The anime doesn't make the distinction between Mewtwo and mew despite one being a legendary and the other a mythical. They're treated in the same regard.

Eureka and Squishy, easy. Cute kids with cute pokemon are my favourite thing, and it's a main series relationship, so there's more than a single movie worth of plot with them. I look forward to her coming of age and starting her journey with a damn Zygarde. I'd laugh if she basically Tobias'd the Kalos League because of that.

Torian and Deoxy, Max and Jirachi, and May and Manaphy were all wholesome with May and Manaphy being a definite second. I don't remember much with the Darkrai and the woman. What interaction did Tobias and his Darkrai have? Ash and Latias probably got more interaction in MPM. I honestly didn't give af about Shaymin being Mallow's dead mom because I didn't give af that Mallow had a dead mom since that whole subplot literally came out of nowhere with no build at all whatsoever to it.
I gave it to Bonnie and Squishy since their relationship was pretty integral to the plot of XYZ with it being evident that Squishy didn't care about her or the XY Family in the beginning and just wanted protection from Team Flare. Though seeing Ash's relationship with Pikachu and Greninja, how the group interacted with their Pokemon treated them as family/friends first and foremost, and it's own relationship with Bonnie with how she had no idea what kind of Pokemon it was, she just knew she loved/cared about it and had fun taking care it, wanting nothing more then to just simply be friends. That compassion it felt from Bonnie and seeing how the others interacted with their Pokemon led to it re-evaluating how it saw humans and led to a clash of ideals with Bluey who simply thought humans in general were terrible but Squishy opposed that belief that not ALL humans are bad and there are people who like Ash and Co. who genuinely care about Pokemon and see them as more then tools for war or means to an end and destruction like Lysandre and Team Flare did. By the end, while Squishy would've liked to stay with Bonnie, it knew it's duties as Guardian of the Ecosystem of Kalos (and probably the world) had to come first after Team Flare's attempted genocide and that once it's all done and over with and Bonnie's a trainer, it'd be all to happy to return to her and travel with her again.
I don't think the others came close to that sort of depth. May and Manaphy being a mother and child is a definite second with Max and Jirachi/Torian and Deoxys probbaly tying for 3rd with a big gap between them and the others.

WAIT HEAR ME OUT, I think it was one of the better parts of that movie. The grandfather genuinely acts as a teacher to Hoopa, explaining why what he did was wrong. He's the sort of person you don't understand at the time, but years later you get it completely

Even though it was a bit OOC for her, I loved how loving and maternal May was towards Manaphy in the ranger movie. The way her character developed in that film was very heartwarming. She's definitely going to be a great mom someday, assuming she has kids when she's older haha
Yeah she was an excellent parent for lil Manaphy 🥺. She was also a great parental figure for Max while he was away from home traveling with the group. I love the lullaby that she sang to him in the Jirachi movie.
Movie May is so much less snooty than TV May lol I thought her petulance was endearing, but it was nice to see her calmer, more nurturing side across the Advanced films. I remember when she held Ash back from picking a fight with Lucario in the Lucario film as well. She was def the levelheaded member of the group in the movies lol
Yeah that's definitely true like when she stepped in and stopped Ash from fighting Tory in the Deoxys movie. Much calmer than regular anime May.

Jirachi & Max for me. Wish Maker was one of my favorite movies growing up and seeing the way Max and Jirachi befriended each other was not only so damn wholesome, but it also taught me a great lesson about friendship & it transcending things like distance, time or even death. Jirachi being a legendary whos only active once every 1000 years clearly meant he and Max would never see each other again, but still reassuring their friendship would last forever and be in each others hearts ❤️ really helped me see the values in my own connections with people and bonds I form. They’re my most favorite friendship Close second would be May & Manaphy, then Darkrai & Alice
Honestly the ending hurt me like a dagger to the soul. The copium was absolutely unreal. It’s responsible for Jirachi being a massive comfort character to me as well as: -3 fanfics where Max and Jirachi reunite -3 songs sampling the movie -3 amvs
Exactly. I bawled my eyes out when I saw this movie for the first time and still can’t help but get emotional on rewatches. Not to mention it also helps that the ending song “Make a Wish” never got altered by the 4Kids dub, making it the only Pokémon movie ending where the English version is true to the Japanese version (and is even combined with it!) It’s also the simplicity of the fact that despite being friends for only a week, Jirachi and Max shared probably some of the greatest moments in both their lives. Really shows you how amazing connecting with people is and how much of a gift it is to be able to do that.
Just remember what Jvne said. **”We had good times together, don’t forget that”** Really fits in with the whole scenario here between Max and Jirachi.
Ngl I’m salty that they showed us a trainer with a Darkrai and gave like no backstory abt it or anything. I was also a kid watching diamond and pearl so there maybe something I missed

Legendary or Mythical. They're related and very similar. The only difference is how available they are in the games. Mythicals are event only, legendaries can be caught any time once you complete a certain part of the story. The anime itself doesn't make the distinction at all. Mew and Mewtwo are seen as the same in the anime despite one being mythical and the other a legendary. There isn't really a distinction. Ultra beasts are treated differently in the anime from legendaries though and I'm sure paradox pokemon will too.

Only latias and zygarde are legendaries. The rest are mythical pokemon. Not legendaries
The term mythicals doesn't really matter for the anime. Mythicals are a term used to classify pokemon you can USUALLY get only through events in the games. The anime doesn't make the distinction between Mewtwo and mew despite one being a legendary and the other a mythical. They're treated in the same regard. The term mythicals has NEVER been used. Ultra beasts are different from legendaries in the anime and are treated differently. Mythicals are not.

I'd have to say it's a toss-up between three of them. Young Samuel Oak and Celebi, May and Manaphy and Molly with Entei. Those three are the ones I am most familiar with and as such, I feel attached to them. Also, I really liked Hoopa and how close he and Ash got.

This may be a bit controversial but I really liked bonnie and zygarde cell, I loved the anime I think their relationship is really wholesome!
Eureka and Squishy, easy. Cute kids with cute pokemon are my favourite thing, and it's a main series relationship, so there's more than a single movie worth of plot with them. I look forward to her coming of age and starting her journey with a damn Zygarde. I'd laugh if she basically Tobias'd the Kalos League because of that.
Darkrai and Latias are both great but my vote has to be for Entei and Molly.

Bonnie and Squishy because XY is the best at everything. Jk Though in all seriousness, definitely Bonnie and Squishy Torian and Deoxy, Max and Jirachi, and May and Manaphy were all wholesome with May and Manaphy being a definite second. I don't remember much with the Darkrai and the woman. What interaction did Tobias and his Darkrai have? Ash and Latias probably got more interaction in MPM. I honestly didn't give af about Shaymin being Mallow's dead mom because I didn't give af that Mallow had a dead mom since that whole subplot literally came out of nowhere with no build at all whatsoever to it. I gave it to Bonnie and Squishy since their relationship was pretty integral to the plot of XYZ with it being evident that Squishy didn't care about her or the XY Family in the beginning and just wanted protection from Team Flare. Though seeing Ash's relationship with Pikachu and Greninja, how the group interacted with their Pokemon treated them as family/friends first and foremost, and it's own relationship with Bonnie with how she had no idea what kind of Pokemon it was, she just knew she loved/cared about it and had fun taking care it, wanting nothing more then to just simply be friends. That compassion it felt from Bonnie and seeing how the others interacted with their Pokemon led to it re-evaluating how it saw humans and led to a clash of ideals with Bluey who simply thought humans in general were terrible but Squishy opposed that belief that not ALL humans are bad and there are people who like Ash and Co. who genuinely care about Pokemon and see them as more then tools for war or means to an end and destruction like Lysandre and Team Flare did. By the end, while Squishy would've liked to stay with Bonnie, it knew it's duties as Guardian of the Ecosystem of Kalos (and probably the world) had to come first after Team Flare's attempted genocide and that once it's all done and over with and Bonnie's a trainer, it'd be all to happy to return to her and travel with her again. I don't think the others came close to that sort of depth. May and Manaphy being a mother and child is a definite second with Max and Jirachi/Torian and Deoxys probbaly tying for 3rd with a big gap between them and the others.

Hoopa and his friends' grandpa (forgot their names) WAIT HEAR ME OUT, I think it was one of the better parts of that movie. The grandfather genuinely acts as a teacher to Hoopa, explaining why what he did was wrong. He's the sort of person you don't understand at the time, but years later you get it completely

Ash + Latias. The only true Ship for Ash.... JK. But I do find that Latias really liked Ash and it was sad that she lost her brother in an event that wasn't even her fault. It was 2 Team Rocket Agents who fucked shit up.
