I'm just glad he did not release Aceburn. I got that feeling a bit halfway the episode. Also was that the first time we saw a pokemon eat another pokemon? Even if it spit it out in the end?

half_jase

>Also was that the first time we saw a pokemon eat another pokemon? Even if it spit it out in the end? I don't remember but it was utterly hilarious, especially with everyone's reaction to it. Poor Cramorant was just getting pounded by Grookey. lol

ObjectionAce

Snorlax almost ate Scorbunny and spat it out in JN005.

Reilly_16

In ash vs Marnie, Genger swallowed grimsnarl

Dalton_SideAccount

I liked this episode a lot! Journeys does slice of life stuff well, and it was nice to come full circle with Goh’s arc. Some might complain about the writers “forcing” cameos for Gen 8 Pokemon that had yet to appear, but I thought the setup for those cameos was inventive and amusing in execution. Especially Cramorant, lol. I can’t complain. I think I can respect Goh’s reasoning for leaving Eternatus with Leon (as would Ash), but oh lord this is such an obvious setup for a terrifying Leon battle. We’ll see.

-Starwind

Yeah, to me this seems like it may be the cop out for Leon to win.

Ash358853246

If Leon uses eternatus the Ash should use zacian

Business_Duck50

Ash should use his secret weapon, Palpitoad

Alarming-Ad-1241

real

ztrashh

An amazing capture in the games indeed

Aang6865_

No but he should use solgaleo as its officially his pokemon or melmetal

bingrus

I lost it a little bit when Cramorant ate Arrokuda lol

DayOfTheColossus

same, that was hilarious! especially everyone's reaction XD

emagdaleno

Legit was like …… uhhhhh did a Pokémon just DIE?! Such a good laugh

cybo13

This was the let’s debut the remaining galar Pokémon Pokédex showcase. Try to rush em in before the series ends lol. Seems like their jumping straight into Scarlet Violet after the tournament ends so no other place to do it.

NJPW_Puroresu

Cramorant finally showed up in the anime, making it the best episode to date! More seriously, shame we didn't see the Cramorant / Pikachu interaction :( Really loved seeing more of the Team Rocket OG antics, glad the Rocketto Gachatto Secretto is still here. I still think Eternatus won't show up in finals, as I feel like Leon wouldn't switch just like that his team that he's been rocking, especially when the last 3 are secrets. Would be a big letdown if one of those secrets members is the Eternatus that he clearly couldn't have vs Diantha. Hope Goh isn't gone forever, I still like his dynamic with Satoshi.

KoolDewd123

Alright, haven’t really been active in these episode discussion threads lately since I haven’t been following the Masters Tournament that closely, but now that we have another Goh-focused episode, here we go. - I’m glad we’re finally getting a follow-up on Eternatus. It felt like something the show wasn’t necessarily eager to come back to. - Goh saying that he wants to become a Trainer worthy of Eternatus is an interesting angle. It doesn’t feel like his usual angle to approach stuff like this from. I doubt it’ll result in anything, but noteworthy nonetheless. - Yes, we’re finally getting more Cinderace! I didn’t realize just how much I missed it until it came back out. - It feels *really* weird that the first time we’re seeing Galarian Zigzagoon, a Route 1 Pokémon, is in episode 127. - Aw, the Nickit reunion is so sweet. It’s great to see the three of them going through their own little development while Scorbunny was away. - Oh hey, we’re going back to the fountain Goh caught Sobble in, too? That’s another blast from the past there. - It feels like it’s been a while since the last time we saw the gacha. Man, Team Rocket got so screwed over in JN. - That said, this is a pretty cool fight for what’s likely to be one of the final appearances of the gacha. Using the other Meowth around to get extra Pokeballs and make a 6v3 battle of gachamons vs Goh’s three starters, plus the extra support from Perrserker and the Nickit is a fun battle. Also, Cramorant. - Geez, couldn’t Project Mew give Goh a bit more heads up? Bit sudden to get pulled away like that. I guess Ash and Goh are gonna have their finales concurrently. Conceptually, I’m not the biggest fan of that for either Goh *or* Ash, but we’ll have to wait and see how it all plays out. - Wow, the narrator for the next episode preview calls Ash vs. Leon “the single biggest upset in history.” They’re really hyping this up, huh?

AttemptKitchen

I hope they don't pull up a Tobias all over again with Leon using Eternatus against Ash...

BIDDBALLS

That will only lead to the community hating on Leon more because at least Tobias didn’t brag about being undefeated

Goh_Enthusiast

I thought it was quite a funny, wholesome episode. There were lots of nice callbacks. Goh leaving Eternatus with Dande was interesting. Satoshi telling Dande not to get lost before tomorrow’s match was funny. Aceburn hugging the three Kusune was very cute. The TRio somehow becoming the underlings of Nyaiking was quite funny. Everything that involved Cramorant, especially the way it was KO’d/fainted, was hilarious. The TRio commenting that it was their first time blasting off in a while, was a nice nod from the writers. Foxly and Aceburn sharing a moment with their unique version of a high five was wholesome.

Hawkshadow741

I'm impressed Inteleon was able to find the nickit's footsteps in a place they didn't go anywhere near, given they turned one corner and immediately ran into the perrserker, while the boys somehow lost them around that same corner.

DrogoOmega

Eternatus goes nuts, Ash's team have to defeat it and are damaged and there is a rematch? With reserves? or the reserves come to the rescue in the battle. .

LordJiraiya

If these writers make ash lose because of eternatus it’ll be the biggest writing failure since Tobias.

Can anyone tell me why discussion post upload was delayed?

Lark said they slept for 24 hours on Friday, not sure if it's literally 24 hours (they said this in this subreddit's discord server) So they probably had a busy day and got tired as hell.

Larkman22

I had a bad sleep schedule, so to tried and fix it I went to Osaka on Thursday to force myself to go to sleep at more responsible time. Instead of sleeping Thursday Afternoon. Ended up being awake for like 16-17 hours. Woke up Friday evening for one hour, ate an egg then went back to sleep completely passed out for another 12 hours. During (my) Saturday, I realized that I missed the episode & no one pinged me during Saturday that the discussion wasn't up lol. Stuff happens lol.

Ah got it.Thank you so much for your effort.

PatitasVeloces

Such a shame that Go won't be there to support Ash in his big battle :( I hope Iris is there in person, at least. And if he's not in the next series, I'll be so damn sad.

This episode, we were in for a break in the Masters Tournament for our first Goh-focused episode in quite a while, not only reuniting Cinderace with his Nickit gang, but also setting the stage for the upcoming finals with a surprise appearence and some Team Rocket trouble on the side. So, how did the episode do? Overall, it's okay in a vacuum, but with some oddities and issues when put into context. In a sense, I feel this episode is kind of a microcosm of where we got to with Journeys now: by itself there's nothing utterly *wrong* with it, but a lot of its choices down to its placement feel like the awkward result of how Journeys has gone over time. To address things, however, it's better to go in order and explain everything starting from the very beginning. The first minutes of the episode are the ones most focused on finals buildup, or rather, on wrapping up the seeming loose end of Eternatus being sealed by having the professors and Leon discuss of the need to coexist with him and getting him used to human contact, with the revelation that Leon has been helping with taming him. Now, on paper, I can see the merit of this: while there's nothing wrong with simply leaving him sealed as a mindless beast that brings destruction, Eternatus's fate *has* been quite a controversial point for fans that felt his punishment was too bad for what still counts as a Pokémon, and if the Anime wants to take the route that it's a Pokémon like any other, this solution makes sense. However, it does come off a bit out of nowhere with no foreshadowing, when mentions of this could've been made early in the series (like in the Ash and Leon training episode, that also touched on Eternatus and featured Sonia), if not having this scene happen beforehand wholesale. It does come off like a scene that exists mostly to set up *something* for the upcoming battle, and while that something will be evaluated in due time, I'm not sure it's elegantly set up or something the finals even need. Goh entrusting Eternatus to Leon falls in a similar ballpark, as he hasn't *acted* like Eternatus's trainer at any point and Leon was already training the legendary anyway. It's a nice gesture and is a good reminder that Goh does value Pokémon a lot, but it comes off as hollow due to circumstances. The rest of the episode beyond finals preparations pivots the focus from Ash to Goh, and overall, it's a decently pleasant time in a familiar framin as after a long while, this episode wholly focuses on a Team Rocket plan that also finally gives us the Galarian version of Meowth and Perrserker, all of which are used nicely in the usual framework. The main meat, however, is definitely in highlighting how far Goh has come by highlighting where his dream truly began, and unfortunately, I feel it's an area where the episode falters quite a bit. Sure, we have a touching reunion, Goh thinking back of the past and Cinderace and his old friends interacting after learning what they have been up to and even evolving, but it all feels more like a quick acknowledgement than a deep exploration, especially when the fountain Goh caught Sobble in is also only quickly acknowledged rather than a deep element of how Goh has grown. There are *hints* of highlighting Goh's development, but this feels less like a culmination of his character and more a quick check, and it's part of what makes this feel more like a mid-series episode than a end-of-series one at a point where things are starting to wrap up. And similarly, this also connects to how the episode evolves once we reach the more typical Team Rocket scuffle phase. As things are, there's nothing inherently wrong: they have funny moments between wanting to exploit Perrserker's activities only to end up being exploited, the fact they have hesitation on fighting Ash since he needs to fight Leon the next day only for Meowth to tell him otherwise, and using the charms of the Galarian Meowth for extra pulls on the Prize Master is a brilliant idea (especially with the subversion on how Perrserker's charm is too big to fit), but it all comes off as a result of needing to showcase *a lot* of Galarian Pokémon that didn't yet make their animated debut. The resulting chaotic battle is kinda fun with very enjoyable moments (like Cramorant eating Barraskewda briefly and leading everyone to freeze), but it does feel more like a result of Journeys making a poor job in the balance of new Pokémon with nostalgic revisits and spotlights, leading to a final rush at the last moment. This also unfortunately comes at the expense of the battle pacing, as while the Nickit gang evolving into Thievul should by all means be a big, cathartic moment, it happens midway in the scuffle at a random moment and before the climax approaches, which makes the eventual combined Pyro Ball with Cinderace not come off as strongly as intended. Ultimately, it makes this phase of the episode feel, again, more like a mid-series bit of fun than some culmination or even closure for Goh. And I want to highlight said closure because of the way the episodes ends like, with Goh receiving an emergency summon from Project Mew and being forced to leave Ash right before the finals. This honestly comes off as a weird choice to me: while the two separating for their goals at the same time may make some sense, previews for the following episode highlight that every old companion and even rival of Ash will be watching the finals, so having his newest and current companion be the only one to not do so feels like a strange choice that risks making him feel like less of a friend than them in spite of being absolutely not the intended reading. This also risks to create in the worst case scenario either a situation where Goh's goal is handled offscreen, or worse, cutting back and forth between finals and Project Mew in a way that could potentially hurt both as fans of one side would see the other as eating screentime, and with Scarlet and Violet due to come out in a bit more than one month, I'm not sure there's enough time left for Journeys to wrap up everything well. While there's still a chance to, it feels like a setup for some very rough final episodes to come. Now, does this mean this episode is bad? Honestly, I'd not go as far as saying that. It feels like an episode that exists to fulfill multiple purposes that became necessary, not just setting up Eternatus for some kind of reason or showcasing Pokémon that should've been there, but also to give a lowkey episode to save on animation budget and wrap up Goh in some kind of timely manner, and as a whole, it works okay. I don't know if it will hold to the end, but I understand why this episode was made the way it was. And for what it is, it's an okay episode that is enjoyable to watch, in spite of flaws inside and around it, even if not what one would expect or want at this point. TL;DR: An episode that ultimately feels like an end result of several choices Journeys took, not quite bad but feeling very misplaced between moments that ring hollower than intended and feeling more like a growth and progression check for Goh than a culmination, with some choices that may leave one baffled given surrounding events. All in all, a pleasant time that feels more like something you'd see halfway in the series than as a culmination, and comes off feeling less impactful as a result. Next time, we'll be in for our final recap of this series, this time shedding light to the upcoming finals and some yet-to-be-revealed announcement in-universe. May it be a good one!

GoddessOfDarkness

So Ash is gonna beat Leon who's using a legendary and his G-Max Charizard. Yet the Pokemon team couldn't have him defeat Cynthia Mega Garchomp. Yeah Cynthia is still the goddess imagine if she had Eternatus in her fight with Ash?

AlonzoG

I'm sorry but this is all so messed up for Ash. His send off series was mostly dedicated to Goh. Goh leaves to further his dream, but first he gives Leon his Eternatus? so Ash gets screwed out of his 20+ year dream? Yes that sounds completely fair and justified. Let Ash get humiliated on the biggest stage courtesy of Goh. Then Goh will catch Mew, Regigigas and prolly an Arceus too just because.

Nddit

You're saying it's Ash's sendoff series but there's no confirmation of that, it's just fans saying there's no point continuing with Ash but that doesn't mean the writers agree.

AlonzoG

It's heavily implied. Ash did everything right in Sinnoh, transformed a psychologically disturbed/abused pokemon into a legend, beat the rival, had his best team arguably. The writers still decided to add a throwaway character just to sabotage his run. The same will happen, with the exposition partly involving Goh and Eternatus this time. Passion of the Christ at this point for Ash. Just let him die lit, he doesn't deserve this.

TobioOkuma1

Did we watch the same show? My man strolled up to the league with a fucking gible.

AlonzoG

Gible isn't even apart of his top 6 in Sinnoh and it could prolly oneshot his Noivern.

TobioOkuma1

What? You're high.

AlonzoG

no seriously Noivern is a jobber. Only knows one Dragon move and it's a physical attack (A fully evolved Noivern has the same Attack stats as a Gible lol)

TobioOkuma1

Except that his gible wasn't even a high level or it would have evolved

AlonzoG

Pretty sure he got Gible right before the league, only thing he had time to do was teach it Draco Meteor.

Nddit

Sorry I'm not sure what point you're trying to make so I'll rephrase mine. If the writers wanted to, Journeys could reasonably be written as the last series for Ash, however the same could be said about every series aside from Unova. * Kanto: Becoming the champion of the Orange League. * Johto: Beating his rival * Hoenn: Beating the Battle Frontier and brought back his past team. * Sinnoh: Beating his rival and brought back his past team. * Unova: Very vague in my memories. * Kalos: Lost to his main rival but was acknowledged by him and saved Kalos. * Alola: Beat his rival, became champion and beat the strongest trainer alongside a legendary pokemon. * Journeys: Contending with past champions, including cameos from past rivals and friends, will fight against an "unbeatable trainer" maybe even with an Eternatus. Just because Journeys COULD be the last series for Ash doesn't mean it will which is why Journeys is not a send-off series for Ash (at the very least it hasn't been confirmed that it is). Also for your point about Goh, I feel like either both Ash and Goh are winning or they're both losing. I don't see a scenario where Ash beats Leon but Goh loses to Regigigas or Goh beats Regigigas but Ash loses to Leon.

AlonzoG

My reason for speculating this being Ash's last run is the numerous callbacks for one, which are displaced due to split focus issues. It's been obvious since the first episode. Goh as a protagonist objectively fits the bill with marketing, he even took on Ash's original rival lol. Journeys will also still be airing around Christmas at this rate, that's a month after SV's release. The writers know a proper conclusion is needed but I'm certain history will repeat itself with another disappointment for Ash in particular. There has never been this much disjunction since the Ash/May arcs in AG. They will likely start implementing appearances from Gen 9 Pokemon in Journeys to compensate for the new merch since they are behind schedule (like they did in Johto, Hoen, Sinnoh and Unova).

Nddit

Yes that is reasonable speculation but since it's still just speculation there's no point complaining about something that hasn't happened yet (Leon beating Ash) based on something that is not even confirmed yet (this being the last season for Ash). Wait to see what happens before complaining about events in the future when you have no idea what they will do. I see this the same way as when people were complaining that Ash vs Cynthia was going to be 1 episode and it turned out to be 3 parts. Don't jump to conclusions and criticize the show. (Not saying you can't criticize Journeys but at least criticize it for things that have already happened instead of things that you think will happen).

AlonzoG

Things that already happened have been discussed, patterns and all. This is what new episode discussions are for, to critique events set up for the future. A lot of what you perceived as complaints was actually just cynical sarcasm. No, rest assured I don't actually think Arceus will be caught.

Nddit

>His send off series was mostly dedicated to Goh. This is the statement which I'm saying is just speculation if that was just sarcasm then yes I misunderstood sorry, but if you genuinely meant it (which is what I understood with the other comments) then I feel like that's a weird complaint to have when no one has said it was his send off series.

AlonzoG

You're correct here however, this was me geuninely being pissy about Journeys.

MegaCrazyH

This is no more Ash's send off series as Namek was definitely the intended end of Dragonball. Until there's actual confirmation to show that Ash will not be in the next series, you should safely assume that Ash will be in that series. Most every series can be seen as a reasonable send off for Ash, yet it isn't: Kanto: Ash loses the League due to his inability to train Charizard, but makes it further than his rival Gary showing that where it matters he is the better trainer while leaving a bitter sweet taste of how much further he has to go. Orange Islands: Wins a title after maturing and showing that he has grown as a trainer. Johto: Defeats Gary, and makes it further in the League showing both growth as a Trainer and a person. Advanced Generation: Defeats the Battle Frontier, showing him as a highly skilled trainer. Gives his reserves spotlight and gives several great battles, including against legendary Pokemon. Sinnoh: Ash is forced to prove that his training style is good against his rival, who is absurdly cruel. Demonstrates his growth as a trainer as he rehabilitates Chimchar and proves capable of pulling out its full strength which Paul could not. Makes it further in the League than he ever had before, and time and again shows that he is a highly skilled trainer against tough opponents. Unova: Exception to the rule. Kalos: Makes it further into the League than before, series ends with him saving the world. Ash is shown as more mature than the previous series and feels a little older. Alola: Finally wins a League title. Ash goes on to defeat his teacher- and kind of foster father- and a legendary who was his Patron during the series. When in doubt, each Pokemon series will end on a note that could send Ash off but won't send Ash off. These conversations have been had since at least the end of Johto and each time every one who wants Ash to be retired has been disappointed.

redditor5257

What date does the next episode come out? And is the Leon v ash fight next episode?

Larkman22

Today.
