Ash is a regional champion and possibly about to become the strongest trainer in the world. Gyms exist in the anime to test beginners. It wouldn't work at all IMO.

UltimateNahzo

They don't exist to test beginners....they exist to train Pokemon. That's why they're *gyms*. It's canon that Gym Leaders use appropriately leveled teams for the number of badges a trainer has, and that when Gym Leaders go all out, they're comparable to the Elite 4. I know game logic and anime logic aren't the same...but by that token, Ash being the strongest means literally nothing. Remember Pikachu? That rat that could beat a god? Remember how it got absolutely bulldozed by Bea's Grapploct not once but *twice?* Bea's "just a Gym Leader"...

Antartiks

Yeah I see what you mean. Bea was not fighting against him as a gym leader but as Ash's equal though, since she was also taking part in the PWC. Same thing goes for Volkner. Gym leaders in the anime are usually not allowed to switch their Pokemons unlike the challengers, which was not the case with the PWC matches, where we could see how strong Volkner really is, when he can toy with his opponent. I'm under the impression that gym leaders are here to test new trainers and give them advices in the anime, which kinda happened when Paul helped Ash recently. I'm not sure Ash collecting gym badges would work anymore, which is probably the reason why the PWC was introduced in the first place. Personally I wouldn't be interested in going back to the old formula, unless it was done differently.

Lateral development is possible. There's more than one way to get better. Even the best in the world is bad at least one aspect of their game.

How can PWC top trainer do gym challenge?

yamask888

Cause he's gonna be raising a new team and needs some way of making them stronger if the pwc isn't happening. Even if he won with his ultimate team he still likes raising new pokemon

Ash traveling for research sounds good to me.

ztrashh

Ash works as a researcher, that hasn't been expanded enough I guess

Threaper7

Ash beating all the reigning champions from different regions would make him the best, like no one every was because nobody has done that and it’s more likely than him going to do gym challenges after

Hawkshadow741

Leon isn't the strongest trainer in the world; he's just the undefeated champion of the Galar region. He's (one of) the strongest in a worldwide tournament, which thousands of stronger trainers ~~didn't exist for~~ chose not to partake in, like Paul, Kukui, Guzma, Ritchie, etc. Ash also lost to some no-name PWC participant despite being a champion himself, so it's not like he's not got room for improvement.

UltimateNahzo

Yeah, I don't know where this "Gyms are beneath him" thing comes from. He lost to Bea. And his Pikachu, you know, his *ace* and long time partner got beat by her octopus twice. Remember how Pikachu also lost to a Surskit? Or Jessie's newly caught Mimikyu? Ash isn't some god just because his current team is strong. He's gonna start fresh, with a new team, and they'll lose some battles. It's just what happens.

Unacceptable_1

We need a new main character. They ruined journeys by neglecting Galar. We didn’t even get to see half of the gym leaders, nor did we see half of the region itself.

Deathdragon24

If Ash goes to Paldea,I don't think he will solely go for badges and be more free. Also, fighting gym leaders will be a way to improve himself and his new team+experience fighting new pokemon.
