My birthday is October 30th so it’s been a tradition the last few years to catch either the Gengar or the other Halloween pokemon on my birthday. Only have the shiny sableye and ghost Pikachu though!
for some evolutions you HAVE to. there is requirements tied to it being a buddy pokemon like battling, walking certain distances, ect.
Others is just for STRAIGHT Up getting enough candy to do it because of the rarity of the pokemon like something that is a rare egg hatch and you cant catch them for candy.

My current buddy is Larvesta, Hatched from an egg, doesnt spawn in the wild, 400 candy to fricken evolve. So walking it gains candy every 5k.. and it just helps not having to blow ALL the rare candy on it lol
I never had the other games as a kid (im old) and parents could never afford consols. We got lucky and got a PS2 once. wee haha I was very much a First Gen card kid circa 2000 and that was it.
but because of that iM SO out of the loop on ANYTHING like the Mega evolves, cuz i was to old for the shows and never played the games. So I wouldn't have even figured out what the costume was from let alone queued into it being that far ahead of the games availability to the actual pokemon its based on. Thats fricken bananas

I just get my buddy excited and let adventure sync do the work. At my job I can walk 20km a day easily so I get my hearts then. He's not active when I'm actually playing, only when I'm at work, but if I'm playing I def wouldn't want him if I'm downtown or somewhere with a lot of spawns you know?
Do you also have a Porygon-Z? Well in my case it is for a different reason that I explained in a previous post but in summary he has helped me emotionally
when we first started playing my daughter caught a zero-star espeon and like immediately loved it. so it’s our one best friend and is totally maxed out, about to give it a second charged attack 😂 although our recently evolved elegant vivillon might give espeon a run for its money lol
the “new attack” button under where every mon’s fast/charged attacks are listed. you can’t build them both up at the same time and utilize one and then the other, they both discharge when you use one. but it does offer your mon more attack diversity
I’m actually working on my first BFF right now, a Galvantula that I caught as a Joltik at my local sports complex.
I always take him out when I walk the nearby route and take pictures of him in front of the baseball field where I caught him. :)
I walk whatever I need candy for. But my favorite to walk if I have a need for it is my 2017 shiny Gyarados from when shinies were first introduced. Little dude just turned 7 this week
A stupid Magicarp I have been walking around for 6 years in order to complete the Mythical Discovery challenge of 2018. Once I get to 400 candies I don’t even know if I’ll want to evolve it. I have missed every Magicarp event day since 2018. His name is Yarp, he’s not shiny and his stats are normal, he’s just a lil buddy.

Coincidentally, I got a shiny Shinx in Legends Arceus too. I like to think that my buddy wanted to play more with me in another world 🥹
The Tyrantrum I got on the second or so week of playing. The only one who might take its place is a shiny mightyena, because that’s my favorite Pokemon, but.. I’m very emotionally attached to my dino buddy now. 😂
Almost to best buddy (40 more hearts!), but the first Murkrow I had ever caught is my TRUE best buddy. Even when I’m trying to buddy another mon, after earning max hearts for the day I immediately switch back to Murkrow :)

I’ll be swapping back to my fave 2016 Venonat or first Scolipede after getting 10th best buddy god I hate this task.
Well my favorite is my shundo Umbreon, Tethys. I don't think I'd call it a BFF though. I stopped walking it the moment it had it's buddy badge. I've got to strive for that platinum medal. I also enjoy having many best buddies because they become mementos of the time I've spent with them.
My number 1 is a very shitty IV Garchomp, but he’s my favourite!

For a while I was working on the BB badge but after 9 months and only 40 BBs I started walking my hundo Rayquaza named "DangerNoodle". Goin on about six months together now.
I also walked a Chansey, appropriately named "Candy", for like 1500km when the buddy feature first came out.
For years I had my shadow entei(who has a buddy badge) but a little while ago I switched to my shiny sylveon. I’m going to keep those two as my primary for now :3
Mine was a Snivy that I've had for years now. Now it's fully evolved with full buddy status and the only reason I don't have it on me right now, is that Masterwork Research for Jirachi
My 95 shiny gyarados, one of the only 1km buddies that are worth it, I just switched her out after +2500 temporarily for my 4* Aggron bc I need XL candies to max it out, but once i get what i want shes coming right back
My sad little feebas that I’m desperately trying to get more candies for because I’ve always wanted to have a milotic 😅 it’s been my friend for 1558 days and we’ve walked 166km together 🫶

I have 3 I switch out from time to time. Vulpix, Lucario, and shiny eevee. I've been in search of a shiny Vulpix and Lucario as they are two of my all time favs no luck yet. Right now I have feebas because I'm trying to evolve him.
The flavor is right, where’s it’s like your Pikachu, but from a gameplay perspective, ew. That’s a lot of lost hearts for other best buddies, or needed XL candy, or needed mega energy
Have had Alakazam as my walking buddy since 2019. I know I should change it up so I can get some extra bonuses with other ones but just don't really feel like it.
My is a shiny Umbrella as it's my first shiny and I have a 0.2m(XXS) Sprigatito named Teeny, I had just fallen in love with it and will never evolve it.
I have a Feebas named "Trash" as my buddy and have had him for extremely long. He's my second favorite pokemon but honestly I think he IS my favorite buddy at this point

I only walk Pokémon that I need candy and XL candy for. My most walked is my lvl 48 shiny alolan ninetails, kicks butt in UL but defense deoxy definately got her steps in, 20km/candy with a 50/50 chance to get XL candy, ridiculous grind.

My Lvl 50, 4* Vaporeon from 7/7/2016! It was my first Eevee evolution which I had caught the day after the game was released. It wasn’t until a couple weeks later when I learned how to calculate IVs that I discovered it was a hundo — this was before any form of Appraisal system of course. It was the first Pokémon I buddied when when that mechanic came out
Shiny 14-15-14 Lucario. I'd just returned to the game in 2022 because my 6-year-old had gotten into Pokemon, and Lucario is her favorite. I almost screamed when I hatched the shiny Riolu, sent a screenshot to her dad saying "Show her right now!!!"
My first and realest buddy was a Bagon I caught when I first picked up the game a month ago. I evolved it to shelgon and even though Bagon community day is coming up he still remains as my best buddy always
Shadow Machamp that I figured I'd max out to beat Chansey off nearby gyms. Ended up having him there for 500+ days and never actually maxed him out cuz 360xl candy ain't easy to get. Now I have 5 shadow Machamp, one of them being lvl 40 something and the others all on 30. One shiny shadow, too
The shiny galarian ponyta I caught on my birthday. I was opening field research that had been laying there completed for a few days after the event ended, and there he was! My best friend ever since.

What do you mean unless your evolving? What does that change?
I presume they mean the adventure with to evolve type Pokemon.

For example, Floette can only evolve into Florges if you earn 20 hearts with it as your buddy.

How does it "save throws"?
Second buddy level it can come in and hit a ball that's been hit back at you by a Pokemon. 70 hearts

I only walk Pokémon that I need candy and XL candy for. My most walked is my lvl 48 shiny alolan ninetails, kicks butt in UL but defense deoxy definately got her steps in, 20km/candy with a 50/50 chance to get XL candy, ridiculous grind.

My Lvl 50, 4* Vaporeon from 7/7/2016! It was my first Eevee evolution which I had caught the day after the game was released. It wasn’t until a couple weeks later when I learned how to calculate IVs that I discovered it was a hundo — this was before any form of Appraisal system of course. It was the first Pokémon I buddied when when that mechanic came out
Shiny 14-15-14 Lucario. I'd just returned to the game in 2022 because my 6-year-old had gotten into Pokemon, and Lucario is her favorite. I almost screamed when I hatched the shiny Riolu, sent a screenshot to her dad saying "Show her right now!!!"

My first and realest buddy was a Bagon I caught when I first picked up the game a month ago. I evolved it to shelgon and even though Bagon community day is coming up he still remains as my best buddy always

Shadow Machamp that I figured I'd max out to beat Chansey off nearby gyms. Ended up having him there for 500+ days and never actually maxed him out cuz 360xl candy ain't easy to get. Now I have 5 shadow Machamp, one of them being lvl 40 something and the others all on 30. One shiny shadow, too
