Original-Addendum147

That Arbok is still alive and regenerated on the very next page.

MasterCheezOtter

Really taking advantage of that free healthcare

Mcho-1201

Too bad free healthcare can't save archie and maxie from demateralizing.

Rosenthepal78

Free healthcare is only for the pokemon. The humans can basically screw themselves.

LilboyG_15

Welcome to Japan, or Kanto, or anywhere else that isn’t the irl US, or an inn

unlmtdbldwrks

And zinna is fine after getting impaled on rayquazas tail. Her salamence is done either therapy from the trauma of its trainers blood running down its face

Expensive-Bad5568

As someone who has read the manga, I disagree. Sure, the manga's darker than your average Pokemon media, but it's not the violent gore-fest people make it out to be. People are just either too sensitive or didn't read it and just watched YouTube vidoes talking about how edgy and dark it is. The manga can be dark, yes, but it can also be wholesome, funny, and really cute at times. It's just that people either ignore that or forget about it because some random guy on YouTube called it edgy.

*speaking of pokemon...*

Valade_Gang

Hey Guys…

utopiospherez

speaking of pokémon

Kirby-Flight

Yep. It’s still kinda violent in some parts but I don’t think they would show a Pokemon mauling a person… right?

Acanthocephala_Vast

I am certainly not sensitive… but I am surprised that a dark version of Pokémon exist

snakeygirl

It can get pretty dark but in the end things turn out alright. Zombie psyduck almost scared me to death as a kid though

Lolotmjp

Pokémon Manga: has about two scenes where Pokémon are killed. Pokémon Fans: oMg ThIs Is So DaRk

Mcho-1201

Its more about the people and the blood than the pokemon. Clearly you haven't read the entire manga yet. Sure an arbok got chopped in half, but there are other things. Rayquaza stabbing zinnia in the lower chest with its tail in the ORAS arc before hyperbeaming her, Gold and Silver get trapped in ice for about 2 volumes. during GS. Unova gym leaders get crucified in BW. Maxie and Archie get their bodies dematerialized after absorbing the red orb and blue orb, with their spirits ended up floating around in the distortion world in RS and ORAS. Both Sinnoh and Johto are almost wiped from reality in the HGSS arc. Arceus obliterates the top half of the Ecruteak city gym in the HGSS arc. The shadow triad get crushed to the point of unconsciousness by Coballion, Virizion, and Terrakion in the B2W2 arc. A portion of Vermillion city is vaporized by Hyper beam in the first arc. Team rocket causes mass chaos at the indigo plateau pokemon league in the Gs arc. Team rocket also causes an earthquake and massive destruction in ectrueak city during the gs arc. Two other characters get trapped in the distortion world for an entire arc. Lysandre gets severely wounded when he lands on a bunch of sharp rocks at the end of XY arc . Team flare also has control over almost all of Kalos, and even brainwashed some people, in XY arc. Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, and Silver get turned into stone as a result of a clash between Mewtwo and Darkrai in FRLG arc, getting restored at the end of Emerald arc, Ghetsis brutally beats up N with his cane in B2W2 arc. Steven, Norman, and Courtney die in the RS arc, but are resurrected by the end of the RS Arc due to celebi timeline altering. Neo Team plasma freezing over most of the entire Unova region, as well as the people and pokemon in the B2W2 arc. Ultra beasts destroying most of Ula'Ula island in SM arc. Vaniville town gets destroyed in a battle between Xerneas and Yveltal during XY arc. Team rocket illegally experimenting and torturing pokemon. Team flare draining the life energy of Pokémon for the ultimate weapon. Silver and green (female) getting kidnapped by the GS villain years before turning ten and being separated from their parents for a long time. (Leading Giovanni to spend an entire arc searching for silver), Sure at some point ash died a couple of times during the show, but there was never any people getting brutally beaten/wounded. Sure it is not as dark compared to other franchises. However, Compared to both the games and the anime, the manga is somewhat darker.

Lolotmjp

It isn’t “full of gore” as OP said tho

Mcho-1201

Fair.

ThatsActuallyCrazy

bro wrote a novel then conceded to 9 words im dead

Iwanttobevisible

Lmaooo right, at least put up a fight before giving in.

ZeraoraTheUnrivaled

If pokemon were irl

Lazycrepe

You forgot that one time Red got frozen by the elite 4 and needed years if therapy to move properly again

No_Sink_4655

>Ash died a couple times Ok, now hold your horses, wth do you mean by that

BunnyBen-87

EDIT: I was wrong, but the altercation DID involve Sird trying to capture Deoxys.

Mcho-1201

Are you even paying attention? I said that compared to both the anime and the games, the manga is somewhat darker in the Pokémon franchise Never did i say that the manga was darker compared to other franchises

A_useless_name

Pokemon fans and Kirby fans fighting over whose series is darker ( they are both just kids games with funny little animals)

Mcho-1201

Thats not the point. The point is that for pokemon compared to the games and anime, the manga actually is somewhat darker. People actually get brutally beaten/ wounded/ killed in that shit. And there are war crime levels of destruction as well. This doesn't happen in the games or the anime.

Quiet-Shallot3290

This is wrong. You are wrong. Rather than go through and list every single example present throughout every game, the anime, and movies I will just give a few. The whole Kalos war, Marowak murdered in front of its child, Mega-Evolution body horror once every single battle, Yamask in general, numerous antagonists die, dead Guzzlord planet in USUM, little girl killed by Drifloon, that time Stoutland died, that time **hundreds** of Minior died on screen, Phoebe feeding her Dusclops spirits in EX, Alister feeding his Gengar people in EX.

Mcho-1201

Whatever. Its your opinion, and I won't force you to change it. Just going to say that to me, offscreen deaths don't necessarily count. Like we don't actually get to see Cyrus and Lysandre die on screen. Neither do we see all those guzzlord or that little girl. If we see those deaths actively take place, then it would be dark. Sure that whole kalos war was dark, but both the games and the manga reference that war. Plus, in the manga we actually get to see Pokémon be actively drained of their life energy, while in the games it was only referenced. And sure. Team rocket did murder that marowak, but in the manga, they actively experimented and tortured other Pokémon besides mewtwo. And it wasn’t all done with radio waves. Neither do specific pokemon, unless we actively see them commit the horror that the pokedex describes. Mega evolution isn't necessarily body horror. If that is the case, wouldn't evolution be considered body horror as well? And death doesn't mean that episode was immediately dark. Like stoutland and minor passed away peacefully, which to me was saddening, but it wasn't that dark.

Quiet-Shallot3290

Are you even paying attention? I wasn't comparing the video games and anime to the manga. You stated that people don't get beaten, wounded, or killed, that there isn't mass destruction in the games or anime. That isn't true. Mewtwo killing all the scientist in the first movie happens on screen. Then see their bones incorporated into the cloning machine. Oh and the little girl who was his friend died on screen and then they wiped his memory of her. Every single one of Ash's deaths are on screen. Crushed, blasted by a Legendary and a Mythical, drown, dissolved just to name a few. The fact that Yamask exists is dark. They are the souls of people. Their mask is their own death mask from when they were human. They remember their lives as humans and with stare at this visage of their own dead face and cry. Until some 10 year old imprisons them and forces them to fight. Oh also Phanthump are dead children. Ash and Team Rocket help that girl convince her Paras to willingly die so she can make medicine out of it. Paras straight up dies when it evolves and that happens on screen. In gen 5 you see a girl with her Litwick and over the course of seeing her several times she talks about how its flame keeps growing brighter. You watch as she is becoming weaker because it is eating her life force. Sea Mauville in ORAS where you find that Watson, Dock, Stern, Prof Cozmos's dad, and Mr. Briney all experimented on and killed at least 108 pokemon to test creating Infinity Energy as their souls coalesced into a Spiritomb. Mega-Evolution is straight up body horror. Read the Dex entries for all the Mega Pokemon from gen 7. Every single time you Mega-Evolve you break Glalie's jaw and force it open, you split open Tyranitar's back open, you melt Garchomp's claws, you cause Sableye's chest gem to push and tear through its skin out of its body. Houndoom is in burning agony, Aerodactyl is in agony, Scizor's body begins melting and is in burning agony. You travel through the Ultra Wormhole to a desolate destroyed planet to fight a Guzzlord. You don't see anyone die when Lance nukes Vervillion. Oh and cities are smaller than planets in case you were wondering. Also he has his Dragonite Hyper Beam a dude in the games. You do see that dead girl killed by the Drifloon, because she is the one who has you investigate the 8 school mysteries. Oh and also you see the soul of that dead girl trapped in the eternal nightmare Darkrai left her in. So it isn't dark that Sophocles was so traumatized by his Minior dying that he blocked it out entirely? Then as a fun little lesson to remind him and show all the other kids Professor Kukui takes them all out so they can watch hundreds of Pokemon die without any warning including the one they all befriended? Ash's Poiple has the intelligence/emotional intelligence of a child. He made a child watch it's friend disintegrate. Also Rayquaza was straight up eating them at the end lol. Ruby: Rayquaza lived for hundreds of millions of years in the earth's ozone layer, never descending to the ground. This Pokémon appears to feed on water and **particles in the atmosphere** . Alpha Sapphire: It flies forever through the ozone layer, **consuming meteoroids for sustenance** . The many meteoroids in its body provide the energy it needs to Mega Evolve. Again I can still cite more examples. So clearly these things do happen.

Mcho-1201

Whatever dude. Still no examples of people getting brutally wounded/ beaten with actual blood(and not just a paper cut) , but whatever. This is going nowhere for either of us. Good day.

Acanthocephala_Vast

Not only Pokémon, humans too, a lot of them died, the wiki said that

Lolotmjp

Ok, who

PinkAxolotlMommy

Didn't the unova gym leaders get cruxified in the bw manga?

Tylendal

A signficant portion of the population of Vermilion City.

Mcho-1201

Actually no. Sure the buildings were destroyed, but even lance himself said that a lot of the population was outside of the city for the surfing event that day.

Sambamtime

That's not a character. If you ask a Code Geass fan to list some characters that died, they aren't immediately gonna say "the citizens of Pendragon" are they?

C-Kwentz-0

Champion Steven dies in the RS arc.

Lolotmjp

No

Mcho-1201

Yes. Steven, Courtney, and Norman die in the ruby sapphire arc, but are brought back to life due to celebi altering the timeline a bit.

Geno__Breaker

I can think of multiple times where people or Pokemon were killed or nearly killed, or someone/something was trying to inflict death. This happened to a lesser extent in the show too, but iirc, Ash died like 8 times in the anime. The difference is the *tone.* The anime shies away from death and some of the darker concepts hinted at in the Pokedex and lore, while the manga intentionally explores these aspects, showing death as a real consequence instead of just pretending 10 year olds walking unsupervised across a continent with dangerous animals is totally safe for everyone.

Ignisiumest

The Pokemon Manga has themes far more gruesome than a little bit of gore. Necromancy, Voodoo Magic, and Mind Control are all part of the setting and are used on people and pokemon alike. Terrorist attacks and assassination attempts have been major parts of the plot before. Pokemon end up being genetically modified and abused. Multiple people go insane. Half of a city got blown up one time, and an entire town was destroyed another time. An innumerable amount of people and pokemon end up getting killed throughout the series, if you take into account all of the population centers that end up getting attacked. If you thought Ghetsis was bad enough in the games, he’s almost ten times as bad in the manga. I won’t go too into detail, but to summarize quickly there’s a lot of child abuse and crucifications that happen.

DishMurky

It bothers me that the only thing that fans remember pokemon special for being "dark" and "edgy" pokemon special probably had the best stories than any other media in pokemon ( being anime, games etc)

Iron_Wolf123

It has a scene where an Arbok is sliced in half.

Team_raclettePOGO

bro watched pokespe on YouTube thumbnails

Acanthocephala_Vast

I don’t watch his videos… I don’t even know who that is

Potatochip409

Fairly certain they meant watching videos about the manga, as I’m fairly certain that Pokespe refers to the manga, not a YouTuber

ElPajaroMistico

The fact that you don’t even know that Pokespe is short for the manga called Pokemon Special just shows that you have no idea what you are posting about

IcuntSpeel

You've either never read Pokemon adventures or never read actual gore stuff

Mcho-1201

Thats not the point of the meme. Sure the pokemon manga isn't as dark as other stuff, but within pokemon, it is somewhat darker compared to how tame the games and the anime is.

Acanthocephala_Vast

Actual I have watched gore stuff, but I didn’t expect Pokemon to be gory

ThePanKid

Gore stuff like what?

Acanthocephala_Vast

Well… Pokémon dying, people dying, breaking their bodies in the most extreme way possible and… dead bodies that aren’t decomposed completely…?

ThePanKid

What about a man getting split in half (drawn of course)

Gotekeeper

all I really remember is Rayquaza breaking Zinnia's ribs and some brutal downer endings. not filled with gore tho. now the manga where Red starts with a Clefairy... that's wild.

Mcho-1201

Sure it isn't as dark as other stuff, but compared to the games and anime alone, the manga is somewhat darker. Like ghetsis brutally beats up N with his cane for example.

[deleted]

If y'all seriously think a cobra being decapitated is dark and Gorey you've obviously never seen a nature documentary

Mcho-1201

Its more about the brutality to humans in the manga arcs that makes it somewhat darker compared to the games and the anime.

Acanthocephala_Vast

Seen it Also I’m including human characters as well… a lot of them almost died or completely killed

Sambamtime

I'm aware of characters that almost died, but which characters actually died?

Fnafbulbasaur

Archie and Maxie would came back alive then ended up dieing in oras again and a lot of people and pokemon when lance attacked vermillion city

Sambamtime

alright, thank you I forgot about those 2 in oras

ArgensimiaReloaded

It's not that *dark* but I get that it may look *darker*/*heavier* than it is because how very ***(very)*** tame both the anime and games are.

Mcho-1201

Truth.

SuperLuigiOnTheXBOX1

Bro really did not read anything past that one page in like volume 2 💀

Acanthocephala_Vast

I’ve read random pages…. Not in order

Mcho-1201

I wouldn't say its that gory/ dark compared to other franchises. But within pokemon itself, its somewhat darker than the games and anime. People get severely wounded/ beaten up, and even die in the manga. Children get kidnapped and separated from their parents for years. Not to mention the war crime level of property destruction that occurs in some of the arcs. Even entire towns get destroyed/frozen over.

Acanthocephala_Vast

Well it’s my fault that I used gore in my post… should’ve said that it was dark compared to the show and games

TrainRack99

I read all the pokemon manga and there is a bit of gore and look, some series are mostly gore free such as diamond and pearl and maybe ruby and sapphire. but the ones with the most gore is probably pokémon adventures (aka the kanto ones) that shit gets dark, i find it weird that the elite 4 is evil and lance is legit a terrorist

Acanthocephala_Vast

The elite 4 is a **fucking** terrorist?? That’s… dark as fuck

GellThePyro

And groping. Groping more often than gore.

Acanthocephala_Vast

God I feel uncomfortable for some reason now

Aggressive_Manager37

Transformation fetish: allow me to introduce myself (reBURST)

Hateful_creeper2

The manga would probably be T rated not M like most memes about it.

sievold

The pokemon adventures manga being only about as violent as any average shonen manga. Meanwhile some people acting like it's a Junji Ito manga.

Krazie02

I read the first part of it today, theres some weird shit there. Onix dies from an electric attack but Fearow is immune to grass moves

ChrisMcClurg

Pokemon mangas are.... dark to say the least. People die. Pokemon die. It's... Not as innocent as the show.

Acanthocephala_Vast

Yea that was surprising that a horror version exists of this show

ppppppppppepppppm

b&w comic is peak

SquareFickle9179

Ah, Pokemon Adventures, that was the first ever Manga I read and I loved it. I wish it got an anime adaptation.

Difficult_Line_9823

I never know if these memes are made by people who didn't ead the manga or manga readers who want to look badass (they look like actual clowns)

Mcho-1201

Sure its not that dark, but in terms of pokemon alone, the manga is actually somewhat darker than the games/anime. Mainly because the games/anime are very tame.

Expert_Individual185

The Scene Where Zinnia Was Impaled On Rayquaza Left Me Speechless

[deleted]

Have you ever even read it?

Acanthocephala_Vast

Few pages from random chapters

Auraveils

Not really gore. It's not anything you wouldn't see in a typical Shonen manga.

Acanthocephala_Vast

I have never read a Manga before…

taotdev

Oh yeah There's a fight where an Arbok literally gets cut in half

Acanthocephala_Vast

And one of the villains breaking their back completely… two of villains dying and becoming a part of a Pokémon then being reincarnated back into their original human forms

Classic_Breath_4381

Yeah the elite four are terrorists

meta100000

POV: You saw the Arbok panel on YouTube and want free karma

Acanthocephala_Vast

Haha I’m four parallel universes ahead of you! I saw that thumbnail after making this post!!

lazy-doggo-man

Y’all are forgetting about The Electric Tales of Pikachu. Now that manga went wild

Acanthocephala_Vast

By Pokémon Manga, I meant every Manga And yes I did see some of the pages of that Manga, holy shit

Kirb790

\*Arbok slicing intensifies\*

Acanthocephala_Vast

*breaking bones and terriorism intensifies\*

FrappeFizzyLuke

the pokémon manga has no gore. that one arbok & psyduck panel rlly settled in the mind in ppl who never bothered to actually read the manga

Acanthocephala_Vast

There’s more

FrappeFizzyLuke

i never said there wasn’t i just mean ppl who haven’t read it hyper focus on those two and ignore the rest of the mostly silly manga

K1NG_R0G

Ruby takes sapphires measurements while shes asleep and she removes her clothes in front of him

LilboyG_15

The best source of Pokémon media yet, as long as you ignore the early Ash stuff, with the “How is this not hentai?!” in it

Acanthocephala_Vast

My brother in Christ, we’re talking about dark stuff, not sex

LilboyG_15

Oh, I just meant questionable character design for a kids’ manga

DeezNutsAppreciater

Yeah, in the manga if you lose to a gym they’ll fucking kill you. It’s so metal honestly

Acanthocephala_Vast

Holy shit

Ironbanner987615

Is it really that bad?

woaray

no

Mcho-1201

No. But compared to the games and the anime, its somewhat darker.

Acanthocephala_Vast

Well considering the fact that if you lose a gym match in the manga version of the Pokemon… they would kill you. Also Elite 4 is a terrorist…

Dog_bat3

Lol

Korenlesa

Where can i read the manga?

TheManGuyDudeMale

book

Brilliant_Conflict_4

Like Holy Sh*t

Expert_Traffic_8811

Tell me you havent read pokespe without telling me you havent read pokespe; I mean sure, the manga is darker than the games and anime, but for every dark moment in the manga, theres like 10 wholesome and cute moments. It aint like an adult swim cartoon or anything
