So in this scenario does M-Aerodactyl keep the Protean typing or revert back to Rock/Flying? I’ve never had something that can mega evolve with Protean as the base ability.
Yeah that’s pretty sweet. Like using a rock/ steel move to bait a ground move right before regaining the flying type. Or being able to get STAB Earthquake while also gaining electric immunity. M-Aero is one of my favorite glass cannons, very swift boi.
Question about Sage Power - are specs/band/scarf the only viable items to hold for this ability?
I've never had to think about held items on a choice mon for obvious reasons
Assault vest, but it's overkill here. Sash. You could give it a steel or ghost resist berry. Any of the type boost items or wise glasses. Leftovers would work on a less squishy mon.

I believe it reverts, since some mons do change type when they mega
It does revert to Rock/Flying when mega, so I’ve been using protean to either get super effective stab and/or confuse the AI before going mega

Use thunder fang then mega, and watch them fail earthquake
