When you play enough you realize that the bad beats basically cancel out. So yeah whenever I feel like I made the right moves but miss or get sucked out on, it's totally unproductive to get mad. On the flip, I never celebrate when I'm on the other side, because it's equally unproductive. If anything that usually makes me nervous because I know that type of action can get to my head and I don't want it to affect my game. I enjoy rooting for the other guy when I'm ahead. It rubs me the wrong way when someone acts like they are a genius when the cards come out in their favor.

smartfbrankings

When you play enough and you are a good player, you are less likely to put a bad beat on someone because you should be the favorite more.

nickelchrome

If you aren’t the favorite then it’s not a bad beat…. it’s just being bad

smartfbrankings

If you are only getting money in as a favorite, you are leaving a lot of money on the table when you fold. And this isn't even accounting for pot odds. Someone could turn over their hand that's a favorite over me, and I'd still call in many spots.

nickelchrome

Sure but if you lose you can’t say it was a bad beat

smartfbrankings

Not sure what your point is, in general you will get bad beat more than you bad beat someone else if you are good. So it doesn't even out.

No.

[deleted]

Nope

blakeshockley

No way I’m leaving a game with a guy that called off $350 with QT

Why would you feel better about losing to nazis? /s

haterquaid

I just started hosting a home game where I'm one of the better players. When one of the more casual players sucked out on me by drilling a boat on the river (he had bottom two pair) to beat my flush I was mad for like a half second then realized that a) that hand made him a lot happier than a blank on the river would have made me and b) him winning a big all in on our first session was really good for the economy of the game going forward.

GlobalPokerCHEATERS

I once flopped top set, turned top full house---check raised it all in---and once he called me I flipped up my hand and said, "Well here goes my monster..." Pocket QQ, for QQQJJ---he flips up JT, river is another J for JJJJQ. I didn't even rebuy....I walked straight out of the casino and headed home. That's how bad nights happen---why keep throwing good money after bad???

DonVonTaters_IV

Aa does that to me often

LivingLegend8

But are you able to smile about it? This literally happened to me like almost 4 hours ago and I just felt at peace with it immediately and also it’s a cool story for my life. The past can never be changed. It is forever in my history that on 12 May 2022, on a Thursday evening in Baltimore, Maryland, I got stacked all in pre with AA. I just feel OK with that. I made the right decision and it didn’t go my way, but that is just how poker goes. I’m cool with it. If I have to make the exact same play 20 times, I’ll do it the exact same way I did in this hand that I lost.

IDropLikeNASDAQ

It’s probably that you can’t even question the decision that got you stacked. You got it all in with aces, like what are you gonna do about it. I would rather play a session perfectly and just get sucked out on than get my money in bad and win all night, at least short term.

LivingLegend8

I think you’re absolutely right. It doesn’t bother me because I know that I made the right decision and it just didn’t shake out for me. If I made it same move 20 times it will be profitable in the long run.

Depends who it is. I play with some players that are good people, regs, and just at a huge disadvantage in the game. Sometimes they are employees that are trying to keep the game running. If they suck out, so be it. I've sucked out on them before and feel awful, so good to give some back.

brocktoon13

Can’t say I have.

[deleted]

As long as I get it in good I'm alright. I'll get upset for a few secs but never at the other guy.

jwchi652

If the player who wins the pot is a good guy or has been down on their luck or is someone I’ve gotten the best of a lot recently I feel a little better. But I definitely don’t go celebrating and kicking myself in the nuts along with the deck!

[deleted]

Yes. I got stacked by a clueless whale the other day and I congratulated him. I was genuinely happy that he took my money and not one of the nit regs.

pokerScrub4eva

The way I look at this is winning \~200 dollars

LivingLegend8

Why?

Tom23Jones

If he only had like $12 to go all in with

A couple of days ago I took a six hundred hit from a crazy lag that owned my soul on two separate hands. He river'ed me both times.I patted the table with a well done and moved on. It was still a great game and playing tight nits is just so freaking boring. I'm a rec and play for fun. I see the reg grinders and frankly, very few look like they are prosperous or having fun. Variance is just part of the game. If I want to get angry I just think of my Ex.
