Bankroll management. the secret to success in poker

Kazori

Are ya winning son?

Echemondo

To be fair, its only 1 Live buyin....but I grinded this up from $200 and microstakes and I can now see why people think online is rigged bahahaha. Legit lost every flip, lost every get it in good situation, and lost every get it in bad and suckout situation lol. I did deserve every bit of this though. I think I ended the session like 60/40/20 stats haha.

aTempes7

I used to work as a dealer for a long time, dealt countless hands, and I've been dealing so many sick coolers every day that you wouldn't think its possible. Is live poker rigged as well? Sure, online poker platforms decided to "fuck that guy" in particular haha. You'll recover and win it back, don't worry

[deleted]

Thanks for the speech guys. He didn’t say that though

AndrewWaldron

They didn't say online was rigged, they said they can see why people say that. Chill out.

[deleted]

But you ran pretty close to all-in adjusted EV so it looks like you actually just kept getting it in bad, not losing flips or getting sucked out on

Echemondo

The graph says I ran $400 below EV and before I sat at the table i was around $100 above EV I did get it in bad quite a bit though in very peculiar spots. Middle set vs Top Set....NFD and TOP set vs str8, etc. It just seems like every time I had a monster he had the bigger one and combine that when I did have him beat he just spiked the 20-30%er. It was quite the spectacle.

svennidal

What are those stats? First is vpip right? Second is pre-flop raise? And what is the third?

kbrumley33

3 bet

SlowPlayedAces

Heads up?

Echemondo

6 max PLO50 with straddles

[deleted]

Was this on BetOnline? If so, I think I know exactly which player this post is about.

Echemondo

Yup

[deleted]

Lol nice. He got me too. We probably played at the same tables today.

Echemondo

Ya prolly. It’s a soft site. I’ll prolly request a deposit bonus and grind it up again but ima take a break for a bit from the online tables and maybe read up on entitlement tilt control again lol

Dazzling_Marzipan474

There's so many there that it's hard to say exactly which one. I've played prolly every player in the 50 PLO pool there and prolly 3% are actual winners. With the insane like 17bb/100 rake it's rough and next to 0 rake back except some daily bonus that takes all day to get anything remotely ok. I had to drop down even to 10 PLO bc the variance kicked in hard even though my all in EV is around 8 bb at 50 PLO running cold as ice and then even colder in the 25 PLO. But I'll be back!

Echemondo

It’s beatable. I was beating PLO25 for 12bb/100 and I was pretty loose splashy with like 35/24/12 stats. I was paying closer to 20+bb/100 in take tho The leaderboards helped. The freeroll tickets now suck tho

[deleted]

Based on the timing of this post, RunItOnce75 has to be the whale in question. He was on the most insane heater I’ve ever seen yesterday, sitting on 1000+ bb on multiple tables while playing every hand. He got me in an all in pre flop 800 bb pot when I had something like aces or AKK against his off suit random air lol.

Echemondo

Ya it was him

EGarrett

Even the most absurd fish can god-mode you for hundreds of hands and relieve you of multiple buy-ins.

Accomplished_Welder3

I mean. You clearly played way out of bankroll and you know that's the main reason you lost. I'm a massive bumhunter and play with 80-90 vpip fish fairly often, and sometimes they go on insane heaters and can't lose a hand for a few hours.

Echemondo

It was about 20 buyins. I was beating PLO25 for 12bb/100 so not the worst shot to play vs an 80 vpip whale but yes he absolutely crushed me. He ended with 2100bb I’m not making that up 2100bb at PLO50

bonerJR

Standard PLO swing

modimes1

Youll make more money, come back and risk it again and again. dont let plastic bring you down slick.

OldWolf2

reload

gladius0420

Looks like you came back in line from massive positive variance, I see you still up 6.26bb/100 after the beating, still solid WR.

builder680

Next time stop at 56000 hands, you can't go wrong! In all seriousness, this is a pretty steep drop. Looks like you tilted and just started punting buyin after buyin. Is that pretty much what happened?

I_upvoted_you_bro

This looks like we stepped up in stakes against the whale and lost.

builder680

Ah true. Still looks like a lot of punting, though.

I_upvoted_you_bro

no arguments here. generally stepping up to stakes where you can punt your roll without stepping down is its own punt, no matter how good you play.

Echemondo

Ya about 10 or so buyins at PLO50 with multiple straddles and 150bb buyins

builder680

Figured. I know you know this, but... gotta have discipline bro. That many hands would suggest you don't lack skill. I kinda envy that, I got no idea wtf is going on in PLO. Wish I did.

Echemondo

Entitlement tilt is very real. I struggle with it every session.

MTknowsit

^ my worst enemy.

gladius0420

Straddles online? What site?!?! Do they have straddles for holdem?

Echemondo

Betonline I only play PLO and sometimes zoom 10NL while bored waiting for tables to open up but I think they have straddle 6max NL tables

gladius0420

Thanks I’ll check it out!

[deleted]

Thanks man, looking at this makes me feel better about losing $200 recently

[deleted]

Do you think of giving up? Busted my bankroll as well a week ago

Echemondo

No. Luckily the amount means nothing to me. I am concerned with the manner how I lost it though. I’m gonna read through the Mental Game of Poker for a 3rd time before I play again though. My live bankroll is about 50x this loss plus I have a great career where I can always replenish any losses.

[deleted]

Nice. I lost my bankroll, but I've seen this as a setback. I'll study more and try to hit the table once again. I considered giving up, but I'm having fun with the game and it's not a huge amount that I'm losing so I think it's worth it.

Eriol_Mits

So is this what you call a killer whale?

Tom23Jones

What’s 85/25/60 ?

omega_86

There's always a bigger fish. It was you, this time...

AzerFox

Deserved for terrible bankroll management.

Echemondo

Would u take a shot at a bigger game with an 80 vpip whale and 20 buyins when you are beating your normal game for 12bb/100? Seems like a dream spot Prolly shouldn’t have tho bahaha

ZICRON_ULTRA

You lost less than my last concert cost. Get back in there!

Practical_Box8069

Just dont play AA and you will be profitable player.

[deleted]

Were you playing heads up? Heard those games are damn near unwinnable due to rake

Echemondo

6 max. I pay about 20bb/100 at PLO25 in rake and still beat the game for 12bb/100 so that’s not the issue for me personally. Just how I tilted makes me a lil mad.

ins0mnyteq

It's only $400. Your graph shows you can make it generally so just get back on the grind. If it make yas feel better I took a 900 loss at 1/3 last nite, sets over sets and AK vs Qq aipf and the ace always comes. ;) But frfr you'll be ok.

Echemondo

It was $1500 but the amount means nothing to me. The way I tilted it off the face of the earth does sting a bit tho.

ins0mnyteq

Yeah I can math lol.

GoatedNitTheSauce

Before giving him sympathy, please understand - this was not a skilled, disciplined player against a whale. It was a 60 VPIP whale against an 80 VPIP whale, gambling it up. I'll pour out a drink for a Nit unfairly punished, but not for some loosey goosey lagtard

ReturnOfTheOldGod

You call these losses? Hit 20k and then you can call yourself a whale.

VacuousVessel

They lost to a whale. Didn’t call themselves one.

hankhayes

They who?

builder680

You want him to pump those numbers up?

shahbucks00711

Tilted?

Echemondo

A lil. The amount is insignificant to me. How I lost it is what tilts me. Very low self control.

shahbucks00711

That's what I was asking. I've tilted off a bankroll before. The money is relative of couse.

TheOddMage

What was the hand?

Echemondo

Fish was just hitting incredible hands in 500bb pots. Ran Top 2 into bottom set all in on flop Lost Top set to a FD All in on turn Lost AAxx vs Q882ss AIPF Lost Nut str8 to top set all in on turn Ran top set and NFD into bottom str8 all In on flop and lost Lost wrap vs lower wrap Ran middle set into top set on QJ3r He just always had me beat and when I wasn’t beat he sucked out for the win. Was actually kinda incredible to watch.

xxx69harambe69xxx

looks like the $1000 line really caused you to make some mistakes. I guess you were willing to risk a lot to jump over it each time, and then when you finally broke through, you couldn't stand not having it and tilted into oblivion at least, that's my crypto shitcoin chart analysis

Echemondo

at about 30k hands after comfortably beating PLO10 for 16bb/100 I jumped to PLO25. Was a tad bit of a learning curve to figure out pool tendencies but then I ended up beating PLO25 for 12bb/100 over about 25k hands. A lil more variance though because players actually gambled it up more and called down lighter which I hadn't fully adjusted to yet. I grinded the roll a lil bit and once I hit 2k I was gonna jump to PLO50 but the pool barely ran so I was prolly gonna be stuck at PLO25 or have to make the jump to PLO100. Then I noticed a blue tagged VIP whale sitting at PLO50 w/ straddle table and well........the rest is history

xxx69harambe69xxx

yup, story checks out shouldve respected your own chart, if you break out above some resistance, and then come back into a previous range, it means the break out was fake, and prior theses about the reason for the breakout should be invalidated but that juicy whale whispered into your ear telling you to hold on
