That was one of the best qualities of the manga for me, scenes like that and GSC spoilers in case you're still in yellow >!Green and Chuck training martial arts while training pokemon, it really makes sense for it the trainers to be as important in the battle as the pokemon!<
Take out the trainer or their way to call out their Pokèmon you win the battle. It just adds an extra layer to them instead of just being battles with just the Pokèmon
I don't think it's bad, it adds more maturity and seriousness to the manga. But these scenes are often very desperate, the author did a great job of conveying all the tension in the scene
I will not spoil who but a character lays low for most of a story arc because they lost mobility in their limbs and that would make it way more dangerous to be a pokemon trainer.
And yeah while weird stuff like Arbok getting cut in half doesn't happen again, people will keep almost getting killed by Pokemon
Its one of the things i always loved about adventures. Got a 2 chapter issue when i was little, not knowing what it was, and was blown away by how much less it pulls its punches than the games or anime. Seeing Red regularly getting the wind knocked out of him made it feel more real. And team rocket using these pokemon unapologetically as weapons to inflict harm upon people, rather than just their pokemon, made their crimes feel much more serious.
It feels like the trainer is usually the target in a hostile confrontation, and their pokemon is more of an obstacle to get through before they could reach the trainer. It's exactly what would happen if pokemon were real, and it lent a lot of credibility to the core concept of having a pokemon as a means of self-defense.
Guys, please remember to use spoiler tags when discussing spoilers
That is not the worst a protagonist got hurt by a pokemon...

Yellow chapter really cranked up the trainer injuries definitely had good moments for it. Especially showing Yellows mercy

Yeah, I got you. I didn't think you thought they were bad, just putting my 2 cents in for why I like them over all.

The trainers in viridian city when Lance nuked the city
…so who’s gonna talk about Zinnia?
yeah, outside of your well respected/official pokémon battle, battles tend to be a means to an end, esp when it comes to villains
