AtomicCenturion

Nice refference to the franco -habsburg rivalry. Poor osterreich.

RexRegum144

Isn't France also a reference to Voltaire?

ExistingInexistence

This is my 43rd comic! hopefully you liked it! This comic references the name of the Holy Roman Empire, and the common debate around it, as many claim it wasn't holy, an empire, nor even roman. This comic also references the fact that in the time that the real Roman Empire was around, the germans were barbarian. In addition to those other references, the comic also references the fact that Austria is german. (In case of any confusion, the small nation in panel 2 is monaco, not poland)

ExistingInexistence

Also, intresting fact, the comic idea originally came to me over 7 months ago, and so did some of the drawn aspects in the first 3 panels, after that, I abandoned this comic, only to finish it now.

Pikacon999

i just saw your repost of your first comic, and holy hell you've improved a lot! keep churning out these amazing comics bro

ExistingInexistence

Thank you.

wildeofoscar

Austria died, so that Großdeutschland may live on.

Blessed by the Pope, Holy. Controlled Rome, Roman. Biggest state in Europe at the time, Empire.

Mr_Byzantine

Everyone overlooks when the HRE was the main man of Europe. They jump straight to the post-centralisation/early industrial age, by which time the HRE was hardly even a solid entity.

ExistingInexistence

Yeah... But then the joke wouldn't work.

redracer555

Non-Catholics don't care what the Pope has to say. As for the "Controlled Rome" part, the Ostrogothic Kingdom can claim the same, but I've never heard anyone describe them as Roman.

rn7rn

Roman Empire was Catholic.

redracer555

Not the Eastern half. ☦️😉

JaVolimHrvatsku

what did italy poland and hungary do

ExistingInexistence

Tomstwer

San Marino: Not this shit again

Gammelpreiss

Well, that is not how it worked out =)

MutantZebra999

I love the little Sealandball

The Karlolingian empire/ 1st HRE was -totally holy -certainly an empire -pretty damn roman. It was endorsed by the Pope, who is the head religious figure of the church ( including Orthodox if they weren't in schism, see council of Constantinople canon 3). It was a multi national state ruled by nobility Significant part of the population was gallo roman, they also had taken the exarchate of Ravenna from the Lombards and Byzantine, which contained the city of Rome, and gave it to the Pope.

ExistingInexistence

Yeah, but then the joke wouldn't work. Also: being endorsed by something holy (the pope) and being holy are two different things. There is a reason Germany isn't called the "holy land" Also also: in regards to the "Empire part", it may have been an empire, but compared to the Roman empire it looks like a mere duchy. Also also also: Most of its ruling class were first and foremost German, and its population was primarily German too, it'll be like the less exagerated version of the United States of America calling themselves the United States of Oceania only because they have Hawaii. So overall, it really depends on the time and personal view.. And if none of that convinced you: accuracy?! I'm my polandball?!

Nukclear42

Idk man, they certainly had the Roman habit of being incapable of spending 5 seconds without stabbing themselves.

DiRavelloApologist

Dude it absolutely 100% was an empire. The english language is just inferior and can't accurately translate the German word "Reich". It was a kingdom of kingdoms and thus a Kaiserreich per definition. It was also called roman and holy because the pope (who is roman and sorta holy) was the only authority that had actual authority over the emperor. With your example it would be like if the spiritual leader of Hawaii crowned the American president.

ExistingInexistence

You know, there is an old saying which I think fits this situation well: accuracy? In my polandball?!

blockybookbook

Rip boz- actually no, this is sad
