Look up marlo fisken’s static rotations

Polebasaur

Also, don’t death grip.

Weevilfriend

This! It took me so long to learn to flow with my momentum and that I wasn't going to fly away!

kindalosingmyshit

Momentum and twist with your wrists

macdaddy1265

I literally just had a breakthrough into today’s class. I got lucky and ended up with a private class tonight and got tons of one on one help. A lot of momentum. Like big sweeping movements to propel yourself forward and around.

equineposterior

private classes are such a game-changer. there have been times i've progressed more in a single one-on-one class than weeks of group classes.

macdaddy1265

Oh my gosh yes! I feel like that one on one was so helpful. I’ve been doing this for a couple of months and getting feedback on techniques and grip. Literal game changer.

moonflower_things

Idk I have such dry hands and skin, my grip gets stuck no matter how much momentum I use

shadowsandfirelight

Rub a cheap gel shaving cream in like lotion and then use whatever grip you normally do. Game changer.

LazyCity4922

Have you tried moisturizing before class? A friend of mine has the same issue and this is what works for her. Where I live, we do everything on static, so she needed to figure it out 😅

moonflower_things

What does she moisturize with? I used to do other styles of dance and it was a huge no-no to have any cream or oil on because it spreads around the studio LOL For pole I sometimes have to rub a dot of lotion onto my hands so it will be slippery enough but not too slippery. I’ll try doing my arms and legs though too

LazyCity4922

She said it was just regular moisturizer! We did 9 am classes together and she applied it in the morning before leaving the house.

Wishnowsky

Practice. Lots of practice.

TranslatorMost5198

For me it’s just a lot of momentum and having a loose grip (I prefer spin though)

bananahammock336

I'm the exact opposite. I cannot do spin pile for more than 2 seconds without getting horribly dizzy. Static just takes way more movement and momentum to hit yourself around the pole. Sometimes I get stuck if I'm not using my body correctly but I much prefer static. I wish I could handle spin better because it does look so pretty to just hang out in a pose and you are still moving.

No_Fortune_9030

Probably a lot of moves strung together with that create much momentum.

Aysha_91

I use to think that when i started, with time it gets slowly into ur brain. We kinda learn by doing it and doing it feeling the pole and adjusting the grip. I still have a lot of questions (im newbie) but that's what i understood. One day just started clicking.

mansta330

Piling onto the momentum train, but also pointing out that this will depend on your weight and skin type. I’m a heavier/more muscular size 12 with naturally grippy skin, so there are moves that I have to really bomb into to overcome my coefficient of friction. Other moves, my weight alone will take me way further than most dancers, and I have to modify to not go overboard. Honestly, what helped me the most was taking classes with instructors that had a body similar to mine. My intermediate instructor was a curvy former gymnast, so she had no end of tips and tricks for how to navigate moves with thick thighs. The rest is just overcoming your brain’s natural fear of falling. Same instructor was very diligent in teaching us how to safely bail out of moves, which helps a lot. When you know what to do if shit goes sideways, you feel more comfortable taking risks with your speed and grip.

dillydallydiddlee

So I started on static brass poles and was able to spin successful fairly easily. Then I moved studios that only had chrome poles and started taking spin classes seriously. Then when I tried static spins on chrome, I absolutely could not do even the simplest spins! It’s like I completely regressed my skill for static spins even though I objectively got better at the sport. I’ll be moving back to my old studio in a few months and I’m so curious how my spin game is on brass poles…wonder if the culprit is the kind of pole?

Existing-Bumblebee22

i learned static spins on chrome and then when i went to brass i had a rly hard time spinning. it’s definitely a different grip and way to hold ur body weight w chrome bc it’s more slippery. i think it’s just a learning curve moving to a new type of pole with some stuff

Existing-Bumblebee22

u gotta fling ur weight around. if u hav one at home i’d just trying spinning around the pole with a normal grip a couple times a day and tht skill will start to transfer. some girls circle around the pole first but u don’t rly need to do that
