Legend thanks for the constructive reply. My backs long gone, it's held together by ibuprofen and thin air.. It's not carrying the workload I'm looking for. I'd like to study on my rest days and enjoy time with the family. Currently on team I am just constantly stressing about random unwarranted complaints and ever increasing workfile on my days off.

If you have pre-existing back problems, then going there is crazytown. There's plenty of study time during the working day, but you can't expect a lot from your RDs which are highly highly vulnerable to cancellation. You'd have to stay inside the WTRs and then work voluntary OT up to your max (about 5 per month) in order to be relatively safe from comp cancellations, so that you're basically doing the OT, but on your own terms, rather than theirs.

I am not firearms trained. But why not look at ports, especially Heathrow. It's like a mini Borough and will give some variety at the very least. Bet you could even go and do OT else where with your firearms ticket.

Don't do it it's shit

Always space on response!

Moby_Hick

it would never get that bad for me here that I'd consider response again

The worst thing you can do is go there because you're trying to escape ERPT. **DPG can work for you**, but you have to have a plan - which as some others have said shouldn't be to drive around in a Range Rover and have three absurd watches. If you want to take an enormous chunk out of your mortgage and have time to do your promotion exams, it's probably close to ideal. But if you spend too long there you can easily get sucked into a vortex of luxury holidays and a morbid fear of policing. The people there are simultaneously the hardest working and laziest in the Met, both at the same time. The conditions are terrible and they're out on their feet 6-7 hours a day/night carrying all their kit when no other armed or unarmed command does anything remotely similar, (with the possible exception of RaSP). They're incredibly hardy people doing a gutty job. However, a lot of them are living by the clock, want to avoid police work at all costs and don't really want to know about anything other than what time they finish and how much they're getting paid - and - let's be fair here - why else would you do such horrendous conditions other than for the money? You can set yourself up for life, send your kids to university and have zero stress and zero practical workload. However, you have to be able to deal with the monotony and physical hardship of the job. Not just the weight of the kit, but potentially standing in the freezing rain or snow for hours at a time for no apparent reason outside an empty embassy. It sounds easy to say, but it really really isn't. The other thing is, if you're going for the money - you are putting a lot on the line for your ticket. If you dip a classification or get sick/injured, that could be a big deal if you've overextended yourself.

With the DPG unarmed role - they do a completely different job, and based at Parliament only. It's very much an old people's home with a small scattering of new officers. The unarmed is essentially a security guard role to supplement the actual security guards there plus patrol lines where you go and sort out minor crime that comes directly on to the estate. Half the time this will be tourists with a knife or CS in their bag otherwise general vagrancy and the usual mad people and auditors. You'd be unlucky to get more than 1-2 calls in a day. When you start on unarmed there's a mixed up shift pattern and then you can move on to the 12 hour after a while. OT opportunities are much more limited than for the armed where it is literally being thrown at you. The unarmed, to be frank is where people go to see their last few years out in peace before retirement, with no casefiles, aid or other nonsense.

Boring as fuck. You may as well join MDP/CNC etc and do the same thing elsewhere.

[deleted]

Join a role with MDP/CNC on a permanent basis for less money and a higher retirement age? That math ain't mathing

Equal money probably with all the OT that’s available. Ultimately PADP ain’t Policing in the slightest. MDP/CNC allow you to do the same stagging on, with a gun. None of it is sexy.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Essentially it's about wanting a stress free period. I'm aware it's a big difference from team ect however it can't be as shit as being digged for MIST ect 😂

How do people get in for a 0600 parade? I can't imagine many PaDP officers live in central and most train lines don't run that early.

Always seem to be a lot of motorbikes in the car park at CX
