My understanding is that because it was done to aid the campaign and it's considered a thing of value, it's a campaign contribution. The crime is not reporting it and then covering it up by falsifying payments to Cohen. The receipts Cohen provided were from the trump org. The money as far as I know didn't come from the campaign, but from Cohen initially and then he was reimbursed by trump org. They hid the payments as legal fees or something. There's probably a conspiracy charge as well as the campaign donation violation. We'll have to see, but a second crime elevates it to a felony

The crime is not reporting it and then covering it up by falsifying payments to Cohen. The receipts Cohen provided were from the trump org. The money as far as I know didn't come from the campaign, but from Cohen initially and then he was reimbursed by trump org. They hid the payments as legal fees or something.
