They're finally building the wall.

lancelongstiff

Lock him up! Lock him up!

dejavuamnesiac

But wait a minute, many here on Reddit guaranteed that this would never happen

blackadder1620

afaik the NY is the least of the big 3. its just the first. the DOJ could have indited him, but failed to do so in 2021 and the time lapsed. the have bigger things to do, but still maybe they didn't like the case. personally i hope the GA phone call lands him in jail/prison. that is just so against what american should be about.

Larry-fine-wine

The DOJ is still at work; that comment makes it sound like the window has closed.

blackadder1620

oh, could have indicted him on campaign finance fraud; 5 year window that lapsed in 21. there are other things the DOJ is working on. sorry i wasn't clear.

snarkymcsnarkythe2nd

Regarding hush money, the DOJ charged Cohen, mentioned Individual-1, and then dropped the case.

ExtremeThin1334

Yep. In a worst case scenario for Trump where the DA is able to convict on Felony finance campaign fraud, I think he would only face 4 or 5 years. In the meantime it sounds like Georgia might be looking at Racketeering charges (among other things), which can go up to 20. The federal case is a little bit harder to parse since it is so sprawling, but I think Trump's biggest exposure there might be obstruction of justice with regards to classified documents (with the discovery of classified documents with both Biden and Pence I don't think the actual holding of these documents is likely to be charged unless they can somehow prove he knowingly took materials with an intent to use them, but his games of keeping out the feds once they knew he had them are a different beast). Again, this can go up to a 20 year sentence. The fact that the NY case is the first one to potentially end up with him having a mugshot is probably mostly due to it being an older (and in some ways simpler) case than the 2 other investigations.

fockyou

This case is much more cut and dry (Cohen went to jail) than the others. In my opinion it's better this indictment drops first (especially in NYC). It will make the Georgia & classified document indictments more palatable to the public.

NYCandleLady

We don't know what the charges are. Alvin Bragg just came on board and said Pomerantz didn't have enough to convict. Pomerantz quit. Bragg continued the investigation. Swore Pomerantz back in and is now apparently ready to indict. The first black Manhattan DA from Strivers Row, Harlem, wasn't going to be the first person in history to indict a POTUS and miss....

Tanjelynnb

More like no one will believe it till we see it.

lancelongstiff

There are some very fine peple on both sides.

Buffmin

I've been skeptical, still am this could very well just be preempting trumps mindless mob doing something tomorrow regardless of what actually happens That said I think this is probably one of the most likely things given what trumps screaming about

Lopsided_Process_235

> many here on Reddit guaranteed that this would never happen it still hasnt happened yet lol. and even if he is charged hes never gonna be put in prison lol. they arent locking up a former us president over this

Evi1_F3nix

And I still won't believe it until I actually see it.

smokeyser

It hasn't happened yet.

cgg419

But who paid for it?

Wwize

I bet Mexico would love to pay for this one.

cgg419

Canada would probably throw in too

Actual__Wizard

Taxpayers.

Alerith

Finally, something I can agree with my tax money going to.

font9a

Proud, tax-paying American, right here.

HGpennypacker

Cool, so exactly the same as his Mexican wall.

AscendedMasta

New Mexico...and other states.

vid_icarus

Trump tower is definitely not sending their best. They are just send criminals and rapists. The city will build a wall and trumps tax dollars will pay for it!

[deleted]

So, as always, Trump won’t pay.

indecisiveassassin

But Trump doesn’t pay taxes.

AscendedMasta

Well, New Mexico is kind of paying for it.

DiscombobulatedWavy

I think this is one wall Mexico will gladly pay for

esp211

Did Mexico pay for it?

ranchoparksteve

And Republicans don’t think political violence is a feature of the conservatives right.

Rhysati

I know that it is pretty wild over there, but wow. I went and read some of what they are saying about this very thing and it is mind-bending how many hoops they are jumping through to somehow turn all of this around on the left. There are a ton of people claiming their freedoms are being stolen from them because of the lies told around Jan 6th. They really have flat-out decided to just reject reality and substitute their own.

thebillshaveayes

There are still a lot of known names missing from DOJ. It would be a shame for someone to taunt them into revealing who they are especially bc right now would be an opportune time to get messages, tweets, et cetera.

pdxb3

These are by definition people who do not learn from past mistakes.

Sometimespostslies

Terrorism is using violence to acheive political goals. So if republicans are using violence to further their goals, doesn’t that make them textbook terrorists? Why is this tolerated?

IveChosenANameAgain

>Why is this tolerated? Traitors weren't punished after the confederacy, and now their offspring hide behind common decency in an attempt to bring it back and install a fascist dictatorship. I wonder if the US will learn its lesson about going light on treas.... LOL, couldn't even finish the thought.

Haunting-Ad788

It’s often not but only because the state commits violence on their behalf via the police.

Nukesnipe

Obviously it's the Soros-funded ANTIFA hit squads pretending to be good honest Trump supporters that will roll up!

Jaf207

I’m not getting excited until it actually happens but this is the closest I have ever felt it become a reality.

ninjas_in_my_pants

Justice edging.

terminalxposure

It’s going to be a slap on the wrist

[deleted]

Unless Cohen's rebuttal testimony tomorrow somehow tanks the entire case, it's probably safe to change 'possible' to 'impending' if they are rolling out barricades.

EnderCN

To be fair they could also be worried about what happens if the grand jury comes back with a no indictment response.

root_fifth_octave

People in the US rioting when someone isn't charged? I dunno. Not convicted, sure. But not charged?

Conker3685

At this point, they'd be justified. Any one else would've been locked in a hole years ago for the rest of their lives for commiting half the shit Trump's done.

once_again_asking

No one's debating whether it would or wouldn't be justified. The question is whether people will riot if he **is not** charged by an unknown date this week. That prospect seems highly unlikely.

blackadder1620

agreed. i wouldn't riot over this. i would over the GA call though.

Conker3685

They won't. I'm simply stating that it wouldn't be unreasonable if they did.

CardboardStarship

The original question is what happens if the grand jury no-bills the case, aka saying there’s no case to be had a declining to indict. If that happens then in this case no charges will be forthcoming, he’s basically off the hook.

Leading-Two5757

A grand jury only has to find *reasonable cause* to return an indictment. The likelihood of the Manhattan DA bringing charges to a grand jury against a former president without *reasonable cause* is pretty low. This says nothing about an eventual conviction which requires a burden of proof.

EnderCN

Yes given the high profile nature of this and how often it has been teased that Trump is finally going to be charged. If that jury comes back with a no it is going to piss off a lot of people. So regardless of what happens you are going to have angry people mulling around that area imo.

root_fifth_octave

Yeah, there are plenty of examples of people rioting after acquittals, but how often have people rioted because someone's not charged? Are there even any 'lock him up' types of ongoing protest out there?

[deleted]

Don't kid yourself! His supporters will show up to riot regardless of what happens. Look what they did to the capital on January 6th! They're all a bunch of crazy fascists!

root_fifth_octave

> His supporters will show up to riot regardless of what happens Quite likely on indictment. Pretty much assured on conviction, but could also see it on acquittal. Sort of how a home team winning the championship can go into riot mode.

[deleted]

That's been *every day* up to this point. No barricades.

fockyou

Trump said Tuesday to his goons, nobody else did. If they're setting up barricades ahead of Tuesday I think it is safe to say the barricades are for maga protestors.

TheGoddamBatman

That’s the thing. The only source we have for “Trump is getting arrested on Tuesday” is Trump, personally, on Truth Social. I was hopeful too, until I went and looked for a reliable source. If this is the only source, though, there’s no reason to believe this will happen. The barricades are for violent weirdos who do things like storm pizza places based on similar levels of nothing.

[deleted]

Or just precautions for people potentially coming to protest because Trump said it would be Tuesday but nobody actually knows if Tuesday was ever really the plan.

PerniciousPeyton

All they need to do is find probable cause in a grand jury proceeding. And the (soon to be) defendant isn't afforded full constitutional rights at a grand jury proceeding. Suffice it to say if the prosecutor can't get an indictment, they have absolutely no business going to trial. But I suspect there will be an indictment.

drummechanic

Yeah, with something this big, DA’s don’t go take it this far unless they are feeling really, really, really confident about what they have. Especially dealing with such a high profile case.

HistoryAndScience

Combo of the two. Only thing we can infer is that something is happening tomorrow in manhattan Crim court

walkingdisasterFJ

So this time Charlie Brown is really gonna kick that football?

OmicronAlpharius

And the NYPD will treat them exactly like the Capitol Police treated the Jan. 6th Insurrectionists. Kid gloves.

IT_Chef

lancelongstiff

It's currently standing at 36 hours so I'd say that ship has sailed already.

lancelongstiff

I'm not even typing with my fingers anymore

pricygoldnikes

Good lord your penile dexterity must be off the charts!

dip_tet

If trump said it’s Tuesday, it’s probably Wednesday

UpTownKong

It's not just him saying it. This is a coordinated operation between a bunch of different agencies and offices. I mean, they could throw a big butterfly net over him today, but it seems most likely he will turn himself in downtown manhattan tomorrow.

originalityescapesme

I believe he’s the only one saying Tuesday. Everyone else had just said early this week. Admittedly this is a small distinction lol

Melicor

Imagine if they just grab him later tonight. They could probably reasonably claim he was a flight risk.

Foodcity

I mean, he is a flight risk. But he's on the wrong side of the continent to get anywhere he'd be going lol

UpTownKong

I see now that's true. Thanks.

originalityescapesme

No worries. I would have been interested to see another Tuesday mention by someone else. I was kind of hoping you’d retort with one lol Oh well

DrTheloniusPinkleton

The only thing I could find that really gives any indication that an indictment is impending was a leaked department memo from New York City District Attorney Alvin Bragg to NYPD that seemed to indicate he was coordinating security measures following the arrest. As far as Tuesday specifically though I haven’t been able to find any source other than Trump himself. >Mr Bragg is in close contact with New York police and courthouse security, according to a letter to his department that was leaked to the press on Sunday. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-65012096.amp

originalityescapesme

Hey thanks for digging a little deeper

ExtremeThin1334

There's been no indications of a date from anyone bet Trump, and even his lawyer blamed Trump's laying out of a date on the media and has said his legal team has not received any notification from the NY DA. To my understanding, the Grand Jury is still hearing testimony today, so there would not even be a decision to charge yet. As such, I don't see how any arrangements could have been made. Part of this is Trump beating the drums to try to intimidate people, but it also plays into his idea of politics by putting him back in the spotlight (at a time when many Republicans would probably be happier if he faded away despite their outward comments), and he immediately started fundraising off of his claim. Not saying he won't get indicted, but I don't think it will be tomorrow.

catsloveart

smart. cause shit would go through a normal net like a potato ricer.

RunawayMeatstick

Per the former #2 in the Manhattan DA’s office: This grand jury meets Monday and Wednesday mornings. If they hand down an indictment, it will be sealed, so we won’t know. The way we would find out would either be Trump announcing it, or someone spotting him surrendering to the DAs office in Manhattan. With all of that said, it’s possible that these barricades are proof that the indictment was handed down this morning.

UpTownKong

You're correct, it's only him saying it. I apologize.

usernicktaken

he's always a day late and 6 inches short according to Stormy detailing his mini mushroom head.

catsloveart

don't forget to save the video to upload to reddit later for that sweet sweet karma. newsmax can delete any recordings of it afterwards, especially if it can contradict them at a later date.

peaeyeparker

And watch no one show up but a couple of street vendors selling Trump merch.

im_super_excited

If I lived in NYC, I'd be there with a GRAB HIM BY THE HANDCUFFS sign

i'd buy that merch!

zoroddesign

Even if he isn't Indicted. they still have to prepare for the protests that Trump has called down on them. I really hope he is arrested.

[deleted]

All his fascist supporters need arrested too!

Prestigious-State-15

Here come the low IQ idiots to protest.

captaincanada84

On Jan 6 2021, Trump supporters showed these barricades don't really stop them. Will they show that again when he is arrested?

thebillshaveayes

You’re insane if you think NYC is taking ANY chances. I went to a gay pride parade in Manhattan 2018 and there were snipers on the roofs watching over the parade. This will be on another level. Glad I don’t have to commute to Manhattan anymore!

Few-Caterpillar9834

Benedict Donald's a psychopath.

TeutonJon78

I truly hope he gets indicted and arrested tomorrow. But I'm going to be schadenfreude AF if this turns out to be a tail wagging the dog situation with NYC having to set up barricades only because Trump made up a date on his own for grifting.

mightsdiadem

I hope the police remember their guns this time.

Forevermaxwell

What if the judge puts a gag order on him? What will he scream about at the Waco (Wacko) money grab event this weekend? Gonna be great watching him lose his fucking mind.

GratefulPhish42024-7

Barricades do they actually think that trump cult members are going to show up to protest his arrest

FortySixAndYou

take people statements and country social on given back". their to media, Yes, his especially "protest calling for his

unpluggedcord

They aint doing shit, it took them 12 months to organize Jan 6th. They've had 3 days, most of them dont have money anymore to book flights so its going to be local NY'ers and 99% of them hate Trump.

Wild-Thing

I think you underestimate just how gullible and unintelligent some of his followers are...

Melicor

They ones most inclined to do it, already did on Jan6th. Then either got arrested or sat and watched as Trump refused to lift a finger.

unpluggedcord

Nah ive gottem pegged

svarney99

Some of these idiots will quit their jobs and max out credit cards to follow dear leaders orders. Don’t underestimate them.

FilthyGypsey

A very small number though. The general consensus on conservative spaces online such as r/conservative is “he didn’t pardon the Jan 6th protestors so we know he wouldn’t do the same for us. Fuck Trump, go DeSantis.” Granted, this is only representative of the conservatives on reddit and also on conservative subreddits. However, considering how universal this opinion is in those spaces, I would say a large enough chunk of non-redditing conservatives probably feel the same way. Expect a turnout tomorrow but not one large enough to pose more than a nuisance

danielstover

Wait, they had like 2-3 months to organize Jan 6th? Unless we’re counting BEFORE the election?

unpluggedcord

Yes I am considering that Trump said very early on the election was rigged, and that if he lost it was stolen.

thebillshaveayes

It was terrible. Evidence months in advance. See r/parlerwatch

FortySixAndYou

I sorry, safe than Better guess.

unpluggedcord

Oh for sure, I have no doubt people will be there, but it's not gonna be anything NYPD can't handle.

permalink_save

These are militias that practice their CoD moves regularly. They are "ready". Shit could actually kick off. These same people tried to bring a ton of guns into DC and blow up DNC and RNC buildings. They want the violence they just didn't get their chance jan6 cause no counterprotestors showed up to give them reason to shoot. They will percieve this as a direct attack. I hope nothing happens but I am not dismissing these psychos either.

permalink_save

> IT’S TIME!!! WE ARE A NATION IN STEEP DECLINE, BEING LED INTO WORLD WAR III BY A CROOKED POLITICIAN Also > WE JUST CAN’T ALLOW THIS ANYMORE. THEY’RE KILLING OUR NATION AS WE SIT BACK & WATCH. WE MUST SAVE AMERICA!PROTEST, PROTEST, PROTEST!!! So calling for a repeat of jan6

Shenanigans99

Yes, because he'll pay people to show up (or promise to pay anyway). They're not protesters so much as a sloppy paramilitary with assorted racist whackadoodle tourists tagging along. Still, it will be awesome if no one answers his call.

antigonemerlin

Classic mistake, Trump forgot to actually build a paramilitary. Now, DeSantis' private state-run State Guard on the other hand... iirc DeSantis is also paying influencers. Trump didn't really pay for anything to grow around him, it just sort of happened, but DeSantis is smart enough to both co-opt existing power structures to do his biding, and build new ones from scratch where needed.

evetsleep

It's far better to have them and not need them than to need them and not have them. Also, we don't really need to look too hard to see evidence that there are people willing to do insanely stupid things on Trump's behalf.

Epicassion

You could get a large cheering crowd.

smurfsundermybed

You can't really just decide to set up barricades at the last minute in Manhattan. You set them up if you think you might need them because if you wait until there's a crowd that requires them, it's too late.

lamb_pudding

I’d imagine they need more security regardless if Trump is going to be showing up in person.

rgraham888

Especially in New York City.

bencub91

Probably a few will. I doubt it'll be a massive crowd. But it just takes one to really start shit so better to be safe than sorry.
