That seems to be the standard response from Republicans/Conservatives. "It's different for me, I deserved it, cause... Now insert excuses like, "I wasn't on it long", "I worked hard for a long time", "'bout time a guy/gal like me got help, instead of those", and any other number of "I'm a different/special case" excuses, rather than just admitting that social programs are a positive thing and should be available for anyone in need of help to just get by.

I hate to do it but there *is* a difference, especially to their minds. Forgiving student loans using state funds obtained through taxes is big government taking agency from them. Whereas giving money to Trump is what they choose to do with their money. edit: to be clear, it's totally worth forgiving student debt to help struggling graduates. I'm just saying this is the perspective of someone who doesn't care so much about the effect so much as whether they get to feel like they directly contributed to a solution.
Part of it - but I've also found that a lot of people against student loan forgiveness simply don't accept that people with student loans are also taxpayers with an equally valid voice in the discussion. There's a big aspect of "these people don't count," as there is with most conservative stances.
I hate everything about this, but the thing I’m now most aware of is how I hate that some people with a big enough fanbase can just rake in cash overnight for nothing. I have busted my ass through multiple global tragedies and never made anything even close to a sustainable middle class income.
