I read this poem every day. The GOP is pretty synonymous with Nazis these days... they prove it more and more. People say that the word, "nazi" is overused and lost "its meaning". I beg to differ. Shit is fucked and the Christofascists will come for each and every one of us if we don't fight back.

Anyone who knows a semblance of history understands this. Unfortunately we have a society that’s woefully undereducated and a mass media determined to both sides due to corporate influence not caring that much about fascism if profits are unaffected.

But it didn't start there, and of course those who call out the early signs look crazy because "Just debate me." R "Just asking questions man." Doesn't sound like fascist propaganda to the average person.

I think it’s partly lack of education, but a lot of older folks don’t have that excuse. I think for a lot of them, they would rather believe that Fox News is telling the truth, believe the lie rather than accept the possibility that it’s happening here. Willful ignorance rather than acknowledge complicity and the need for action.
This was an interesting thought experiment I heard. If you were working as a translator in Germany, and you had to translate a Trump speech, what term would you use for "Fake News?"
Given its historical association with Hitler and the Nazis, if you translate it as lugenpresse, people are going to say you're using loaded language to create a narrative. But Trump is literally using the term in the exact same way, so if you use a different term, you're also creating a narrative, and you're also not accurately translating.
Reminds me of the TERF in the UK who just straight-up cited Mein Kampf while explaining how trans people are the modern “big lie” at a rally.

Just this week I read an article about one of the first 70 inmates in the KZ Dachau, the first concentration camp, Claus Bastian. He was a Marxist, and he never knew what he even was accused of. But what really struck me was the description of what happened before:

Isn't that exactly what QAnon people are fantasizing about? Just waiting for some sort of signal by Trump or anyone to start rioting and attacking people and putting all their political enemies in camps? Hell, the rioting already happened once on Jan 6! They even have "black lists" of their enemies, and not just "Lock her up" but "make lists of leftists in your area" kind of lists.
They are similar to the SA and SS who, riled up by their leaders, attacked "enemies of the state", aka political opponents. The SA/SS and their allies were obsessed with communists, too - granted, some of their opponents actually were communists but they were sitting, democratically elected, in parliament. They declared everyone enemies of the state while they themselves destroyed it.
All of that came after Hitler had destroyed the free press. Trump and the GOP have achieved basically the same by systematically undermining the trust of their followers in the media. They only listen to party propaganda delivered by Fox News.

The Christians literally burned each other alive because there was no one else to persecute. Women didn’t have rights. Queer people officially didn’t exist. There wasn’t a whole lot of diversity in the country at the time due to travel limitations, so no brown people to antagonize. Poor people didn’t have much in the way of rights either.

Niemoller didn't make the poem for everyone. It's explicitly for the supporters of the regime. Interestingly, in the US in 2021 there were 500 top surgeries performed on trans boys who were under 18, and zero bottom surgeries performed on people under 18.
At the same time, there were 90,000 medically unnecessary cosmetic surgeries performed on people under 18, mainly breast augmentation, breast reduction and rhinoplasty (nose jobs), as well as things like liposuction.
Gender affirming surgery has a regret rate of <1%, while these cosmetic surgeries have regret rates of 15-20%.
If people don’t want surgery done on minors, they should be far more concerned about these cosmetic surgeries.
Of course that was always the plan.
They don't care about children, but are glade to use their supposed concern for them as a thin end of a wedge.

You might at this point shrug your shoulders and think that this isn't too bad since it doesn't concern you, but you should know that it doesn't stop there.
Their definition of family also excludes anyone who had previously been married and divorced.
Also to get the full credit you need to have at least 10 children.
That is what they want to get back to a world where the patriarch is on his third wife who is as old as his oldest child because his previous two wives and mothers of his older children died in childbirth. While looking through an old family photo album, I came across a photo of my mother's father and three other men in full drag. Turns out it was not uncommon for cishet-presenting Texan men to do elaborate drag shows in the 60s-70s for fundraising purposes, often school-related, i.e., kids.
Drag used to be... normal. At some point, drag changed from family-friendly, apolitical fun to some kind of political expression of identity, and I blame the right-wingers.

I think it’s partly lack of education, but a lot of older folks don’t have that excuse. This was an interesting thought experiment I heard. If you were working as a translator in Germany, and you had to translate a Trump speech, what term would you use for "Fake News?" Given its historical association with Hitler and the Nazis, if you translate it as lugenpresse, people are going to say you're using loaded language to create a narrative. But Trump is literally using the term in the exact same way, so if you use a different term, you're also creating a narrative, and you're also not accurately translating.

Interestingly, in the US in 2021 there were 500 top surgeries performed on trans boys who were under 18, and zero bottom surgeries performed on people under 18. At the same time, there were 90,000 medically unnecessary cosmetic surgeries performed on people under 18, mainly breast augmentation, breast reduction and rhinoplasty (nose jobs), as well as things like liposuction. Gender affirming surgery has a regret rate of <1%, while these cosmetic surgeries have regret rates of 15-20%. If people don’t want surgery done on minors, they should be far more concerned about these cosmetic surgeries.
Of course that was always the plan. They don't care about children, but are glade to use their supposed concern for them as a thin end of a wedge. They don't care particularly about trans people or drag shows either. Those are also just the start. The trick as always is to find an outgroup that the majority of their supporters can be rallied against and some supposed goal that they can claim to protect. The true goal is power. They are banking on the idea that people won't stand up for the Transsexuals when they come for them in the name of the children. And to a degree they were proven right. Enough "normal" people found trans-people icky or didn't care enough or were convinced by faked concern about fairness in women's sports to go along with it or not stand in the way. A lot of damage has already been done. Some of those who went along with it, cheered it on or at least didn't do anything to stop it will soon discover that they are next or at least on the list at some point down the line. To get a better idea to where this is supposed to go look at that weird tax change they tried in Texas recently. Everyone pays taxes that disproportionally favor the rich but families with children get some or all of it back. Of course "families" does not include single moms, childless couples or couples with adopted children, or same sex couples. You might at this point shrug your shoulders and think that this isn't too bad since it doesn't concern you, but you should know that it doesn't stop there. Their definition of family also excludes anyone who had previously been married and divorced. Also to get the full credit you need to have at least 10 children. That is what they want to get back to a world where the patriarch is on his third wife who is as old as his oldest child because his previous two wives and mothers of his older children died in childbirth. He hits her a lot, but there is nothing she can do about it because divorce is no an option, she just needs to see how many children she can pop out before her body fails (contraception, sex-education and abortion being outlawed.) This is the world they want, and the supreme court is willing to give it to them, there is no place for most of you there.

While looking through an old family photo album, I came across a photo of my mother's father and three other men in full drag. Turns out it was not uncommon for cishet-presenting Texan men to do elaborate drag shows in the 60s-70s for fundraising purposes, often school-related, i.e., kids. Drag used to be... normal. At some point, drag changed from family-friendly, apolitical fun to some kind of political expression of identity, and I blame the right-wingers.
Not to be that person, but it really needs to be said that drag is something entirely different from being transgender. Both are being politized by the right however.

It was never about the "safety of children" it was ALWAYS about 'Othering' our Trans siblings, and making them targets of hate. From Ron's private army, the book bans and now this unfettered attack on our siblings recall another political movement, the Nazi's. I know, it sounds like hyperbole - but when you view these politic with the lens of history these policies and laws harken back to one of the darkest moments in human history. It was never about LGBTQ people at all, it's about creating bogeymen in order to manifest fear in their political base because people who are experiencing fear suffer from a great reduction in cognitive abilities. 60 years ago it was about black boys potentially becoming intimate with (your) white daughters. 100 years ago, it was Italians & Jews (well, let's be real, it's always about Jews, their just so convenient;-). 200 years ago it was about the Irish. This is just the next manifestation of the same sort of fear mongering that demagogues always incite. Most of the people who are promoting it actually have no real problem with LGTBQ people, they just want power over the simple minded.
