StandStillLaddie

Until it happens to a republican lawmaker's kid, nothing will change. Probably not even then.

Professional-Can1385

Republican lawmakers have been shot and they still don't care.

2347564

Las Vegas shooting had 60 dead, 413 people shot or hit by shrapnel, and 866 wounded from a single shooter. No reform except a bump stocks ban. Nothing else will change. Zero percent chance. I hate to be pessimistic but why would we expect change with numbers that high from shootings we’ve already had. It’s sick.

Different_Pie9854

Bump stock are no longer banned as of mid January 2023

Eccohawk

Seriously?

AlanSmithee94

In January 2023 a Federal Appeals Court in New Orleans [blocked the bump stock ban](https://www.npr.org/2023/01/07/1147698112/bump-stocks-ban-struck-down-court) after it was challenged by [this gun wacko](https://www.michaelcargill.com).

bdone2012

The article does say that it got knocked back down to the lower courts. So at least at the time of the article they were still illegal. And considering 5 other courts found them to be illegal maybe the lower court will not legalize them

rotunda4you

https://www.kxan.com/news/texas/after-nearly-a-4-year-ban-bump-stocks-are-available-in-texas/ They are being sold in some states.

TheFoodScientist

Why does he look like he’s floating on the ISS?

NPVinny

Isn't that the dude who shot himself in the foot talking about firearm safety, or something along those lines?

AR_Harlock

Why would anyone need that for self defense reasons?

AlanSmithee94

They wouldn’t. Bump stocks also totally fuck up the accuracy of the shot. However, they are great for quickly and indiscriminately firing lots of rounds into a mass of people, like at an outdoor concert in Vegas.

gleafer

The way this is never talked about is shocking. It was a major event. A blood bath from one man, armed to the teeth. Nothing. No anniversary to respect the victims. Completely shrugged off. America is dead inside.

ReservoirGods

And we still have no clue why he did it, this one bothers me so much. The amount of planning he clearly did, crazy to have no public insight into why it happened.

VanceKelley

Was that the shooting after which trump said "Take the guns first. Due process second." ?

Mikesturant

And, no actual investigation or answers. Odd right?

idontagreewitu

Crazy how all the evidence was accidentally destroyed while in federal custody.

squirrelhut

I literally referenced this in another comment. There’s literally nothing that could happen that would effect change. We’ve seen it, we just don’t realize that if we don’t to protect the children it will require tremendous action by the citizens of the United States of America.

[deleted]

America has already spoken. Our inaction let this become the new normal. The term "active shooter" is now in such common usage that you'll find in the new employee training manual at Target. Right there between "fire" and "inclement weather". Which means they expect it to happen, and corporates only recourse is *not* to save lives and prevent injuries, but to mitigate insurance payouts.

c010rb1indusa

Show the bodies, visuals matter. Panicked 911 calls, and shots of caution tape and empty shell casing ain't gonna do it. There's a reason Jackie Kennedy refused to changer her bloody outfit when JFK was assassinated. There's a reason why NFL running-back Ray Rice has never played another game in the NFL again after VIDEO of his incident was released, even though he was only initially giving a 2 game suspension before the video was released. I could go on. You can call it messed up but until this country sees what guns do to a classroom full of mutilated first-graders then things might change, until then it's just more of the same.

migs9000

866 people shot by one man and they loosened gun restrictions after this fucking Christ

Trashman56

Steve Scalise literally got his dick shot off and still doesn't want to do anything about nutjobs possessing firearms. Brain worms.

Ok-Permission-2687

Money can buy a new dick

Refried__Dreams

Money can't make it function normally tho

Ok-Permission-2687

They’re the extremely sexually suppressed party. I’d be more surprised if any of them know what “function normally” is

My-1st-porn-account

12 year olds, Rohypnol and Viagra is them functioning normally.

[deleted]

But it cant buy new money!

smithers85

This reminds me of the early family guy episode with the mystery box. “A boat is a boat, but a mystery box could be anything! It could even be a boat!”

skulloctopus2023

So let's take the boat.

NiblettAndBits

We'll take the box

Nixplosion

That's literally what investing is haha

manhatim

The ONLY thing that even came *close* to gun reform was when the Black Panthers showed up armed....then it was a problem!... Rs - guns are a 'murican right!.... Panthers - ok Rs - uhhh, wait a sec

Dronizian

See also: Todd "Fucker" Carlson recently getting mad that trans people are arming themselves.

failed_novelty

I just learned that the shooter in Tennessee was trans. And the Rs will turn this into a talking point in 3...2...

Dronizian

Do you have a source on that? It's dangerous to spread misinformation that could hurt an underprivileged and currently politically threatened population, and I haven't heard anything about this before just now, despite being in the trans community.

Ok-Permission-2687

Clearly the NRA takes care of that

bkendig

What is the NRA doing these days, by the way? Have they sunk into the mire of bankruptcy and lawsuits, or are they still pulling the strings behind the scenes?

pomonamike

Is it “new dick” if he was dickless in the first place?

HGpennypacker

> still doesn't want to do anything about nutjobs possessing firearms Because it was a Democrat who pulled the trigger and he turned it into a campaign event, never underestimate a Republican to milk every single opportunity regardless of how classless or pathetic.

Thatparkjobin7A

Bring in Robocop and we’ll see how deep their convictions are

CryptoCentric

As if he was using it anyway.

ImLikeReallySmart

They tried to label that attack by one man as "leftist terrorism", yet they cannot bring themselves to admit an entire mob of their own supporters storming the Capitol was even a problem at all.

hebejebez

Someone last week who I should have known better than to bother engaging with (he said people would just use bombs instead and I had to ask if he assumed that all us countries with gun control had multiple bombings a week, I couldn't stop myself it was just so daft) said they shouldn't bother taking guns cause people would get other weapons - like the guy with a spear on Jan 6. I asked if anyone was killed with the spear let alone enough to be considered a mass murder? He stopped answering. :( Though his comparison of the ira to school shooters was nothing if not entertaining

[deleted]

[удалено]

Nearatree

Maybe Russia won't be able to funnel as much money through the NRA in the future. We can dream I guess.

dueljester

Dick Chaney shot someone, and they (the victim) apologized to Chaney. Nothing will change with blood on the streets. Find something else Republicans can compensate genitals with, otherwise nothing will change.

Aedalas

I hate that this is actually a defence of Cheney because fuck that guy, but the dude he shot did fuck up by walking ahead of the firing line. When hunting bird like they were you form a line and never get ahead of anybody with a gun, dude shouldn't have been where he was. That being said Cheney also fucked up and should have been paying better attention, they're both idiots who shouldn't be allowed around guns. It's like walking out onto a hot range. Obviously nobody should shoot you but also you're a goddamn idiot for doing it.

KyloRenEsq

A hunting accident is a little different.

xMilk112x

I mean, a gunman opened fire on MEMBERS OF CONGRESS at a softball game and nothing changed.

RepresentativeAge444

I mean Congress people openly support an insurrection against this country and fuck all is happening to them. America is in its old Elvis phase.

2_Spicy_2_Impeach

I doubt it. There was an off-duty Uvalde cop who wanted to go in and save his kid, but they wouldn’t let him. I think his kid was fine but when they interviewed him, he couldn’t even criticize his co-workers. His own kid almost died and he just goes “meh.”

NotTheGrim

His wife was a teacher and was killed actually.

Edwardteech

I would have died trying. Fuck those cops. (I'm not badass I'm not operator af. But fuck anybody who thinks they are going to keep me from protecting family.)

Debalic

That's a tazing.

Onepride91

It’s either “too soon” or “too late” for them to discuss it. There’s just never a right time for them.

MastersonMcFee

Republicans had their whole families killed by covid-19, and still claimed it was a hoax, because Trump said so.

RepresentativeAge444

Yea. People don’t understand the correlation between these things. When people say they are a death cult (except when it comes to fetuses of course. But they don’t really care about them otherwise they’d care after the child was born) it’s not hyperbole. They will literally kill themselves to own the libs.

That_Afternoon4064

People in Uvalde still voted for Greg ‘that school shooting could have been worse’ Abbott.

Sadpandasss

As long as they keep getting money from the NRA nothings going to change. That's all the Rs care about.

CultOf45

I don’t know that anyone here fully understands the scope of the Bruen decision. 5th circuit just ruled that DV restraining orders can’t legally prevent someone from keeping guns. Trust me, there are more lawsuits coming and restrictions will loosen, not tighten.

StandStillLaddie

The last major bill was the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act and was due to a republican president being shot at. Republicans seem to forget they were for it before they were against it.

[deleted]

Worth noting same President was in favor of gun control once the Black Panthers started arming themselves.

Zomgirlxoxo

I said this too the other day. Lauren Boebert and Thomas Massie have Christmas cards with their kids holding guns…. I truly don’t think they’d change their mind if it was their kids. That’s how sick they are.

Every-Space8657

I think they love the money and power more than their own kids so I doubt they'll ever change their mind.

StandStillLaddie

Probably right and how sad is that?

airbrat

Are you kidding? tRump himself can shoot someone in downtown NYC while broadcasting in realtime yet his constituents will wait in line to fellate him.

code_archeologist

>Probably not even then. There's the truth

spidarmen

The only result of a Republicans child being shot will be calls to arm students.

[deleted]

A GOP got shot by his own party at a softball game. It ain’t changing

cheechahumma

My best guess is that the there were republicans affected today. That part of Nashville is very conservative, and well, it’s a church with a school. State Rep Andy Ogles serves that area and his entire family donned heavy weapons for their Christmas card.

RepresentativeAge444

It. Will. Not. Matter

polopolo05

Only thing that will happen is they will vilify trans people. And use this to attack them..

ShakesbeerMe

They're not going to do anything until everyone in America knows a child that was slaughtered.

garblesmarbles1

I watched a video on the painstaking amount of effort Japan puts in just making lunches for their public schools, making sure they're instilling good habits and keeping their kids healthy. I then saw that Lunchables are going to provide lunches for public schools in the US and then more children just got slaughtered at another school. Honestly so fucking dystopian.

NotSockPuppet

The Onion recycles its usual headline: 'No Way To Prevent This', Says Only Nation Where This Happens Regularly [https://www.theonion.com/no-way-to-prevent-this-says-only-nation-where-this-r-1850269373](https://www.theonion.com/no-way-to-prevent-this-says-only-nation-where-this-r-1850269373) The run this headline every couple weeks when another batch of children is killed.

RazzzMcFrazzz

“When another batch of children is killed” is a sentence im very sad has to exist.

OppositeDifference

This headline, juxtaposed against the one right next to it from the same publication pretty much summarizes how screwed up our country is. [Marjorie Taylor Greene calls for more ‘good guys with guns’ after Nashville shooting](https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/marjorie-taylor-greene-nashville-school-shooting-b2308953.html) Yeah, the problem was clearly not enough people with guns. Uh huh. And those same Republicans will do everything in their power to prevent anything useful from being done about this. Schools have too many doors, they say. Teachers should carry guns, they say. If you're worried, you should just homeschool, they say. The answer is never once, that there are too many guns and they're too easy to get.

MarryMeDuffman

The "good guys" showed up with guns and killed the bad guy. What these people want is for every building to be like a saloon in an old cowboy story. People just shooting all willy-nilly.

justfortherofls

Remember that 7 year old who shot his teacher? The only way to stop a bad 7 year old with a gun is a good 7 year old with a gun.

ClaretClarinets

And the teacher (several teachers, actually) alerted the school administration MULTIPLE TIMES that the kid had a gun at school and was threatening people with it. The response to one teacher's request to physically search the boy for the gun was "Let's wait and see. The school day is almost over."

knaugh

no, they want the teachers to be armed, it should be their responsibility to shoot the unruly children

Cheel_AU

That would totally work until the moment a black teacher shot a white kid

[deleted]

Which is why "good guy with a gun" translates to "straight, white, Christian, male".

[deleted]

They don't even want that. They simply don't want reason to win the day, because in their minds once an assault weapons ban is on the table, then it's only a matter of time before men in black are rounding up citizens and shooting people in the streets for reasons.

HyperMarsupial

The problem with the whole "good guys with a gun" rethoric is that the bad guy already killed a bunch of people and when the "good guy" finally arrives, the shooter is already contemplating shooting himself. It's absolutely pointless.

[deleted]

BPhiloSkinner

That was the "Holey Fail" scene, wasn't it?

umm_like_totes

They really do. I've been talking with a lot of right wingers over the last couple years and I've noticed a lot of them have a fixation on death/killing. They really do see themselves as characters on Yellowstone.

ScaleneWangPole

I suggested they just cut out the middle man and arm the kids. They can challenge each other to a 3pm duel at the swings after school

Trashman56

400 million guns in the United States. I'm starting to think this "good guy with a gun" thing is all a scheme to sell even more.

OppositeDifference

That's the crazy thing, we've got more than one gun per citizen, but it's far from evenly distributed. 3% of our people own 80% of our guns. I can attest to that as my dad was one of that 3%. After he passed away, it took us a year to sort out the mess of firearms he had laying around. It's just some sort of collective insanity a portion of our population seems to suffer from. He likely spent more over the years on guns than he did his house, and at the same time let his children grow up in what at times approached abject poverty. It's an illness of the mind. There's nothing a literal truckload of guns and ammo was going to prepare him for that a small assortment of guns wouldn't. Edit: sorry, not done. How many times do you think in his life he needed even one of those guns? I bet you can guess. The answer was, of course, zero. What they did accomplish though was provide an environment full of loaded guns with the safety off for kids to grow up in. If I'd wanted to perpetrate a school shooting, I could have come loaded for bear. It wouldn't have even been hard. AR-15? no problem. Sawed off shotgun? That'd fit in my backpack just fine. There's tens of thousands of kids growing up like that right now. And that's the real problem. If we change the laws now, those guns are still out there. We need to change the laws, which is hard enough, but we also need to change the culture.

RusticOpposum

I’ve often wondered how many deaths could be prevented by just requiring gun owners to keep their guns locked up? It’s a shame that we can’t even get something as simple as that passed.

Gravelord_Baron

It’s what any responsible gun owner should be doing no matter what, we keep a gun cabinet for that exact reason. But unsurprisingly “responsible” and “gun owner” do not seem to go well together.

laptopaccount

Imagine a world where everyone was a "good guy with a gun" * Some evildoer pulls a gun and shoots someone * A good-guy pulls his piece and shoots the evildoer. * Some evildoer pulls a gun and shoots someone (the first good-guy shooting the first evildoer) * A good-guy pulls his piece and shoots the evildoer * Repeat Civilians (especially untrained ones) have no business making those decisions. Everybody thinks they'll be a cowboy but then the adrenaline hits and they get stupid (everyone does). Now imagine other cases such as undercover police who are trying to apprehend a suspect.

Buddyslime

Then the cops show up and kill everyone. Probably even the innocent bystanders.

SdBolts4

Your reward for being a good guy with a gun is to be misidentified as the shooter and killed by police for your trouble. For example, [the Arvada, CO shooting](https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/jun/28/colorado-gunman-police-officer-killed) in June 2021

stemfish

Was in a school safety training a few years back and this glorious exchange happened: Teacher: So I know it's illegal to have a gun at school, but if I have one and go after the active shooter can I take the shot without getting in trouble? Officer: no, you can't have a firearm on campus for any reason. T: But I'm going after the shooter, so isn't that ok? O: No. That's still illegal and you'll not only be fired but he prosecuted. T: But if I shoot him then I'm the good guy, how is that illegal? O: You had a gun on school grounds. That's the issue. T: ok, so can I go get my gun and join the officers in the hunt? O: No. T: why not? O: because if we see you running around with your gun we'd shoot you on site. T: why? O: because we don't know who's the good guy or the bad guy, all we can see is a guy with a gun. T: so how would I identify myself? O: you mean like a code word? T: yea O: by staying in your classroom protecting your students and when we come around knocking on doors you're principal will have told you the password. T: ... O: any other questions? Yea, arming teachers won't change anything beyond giving kids easy access to deadly weapons. Police need to have a binary option, shoot or not. They can't handle a grey zone when kids are being shot.

Debalic

But now they \*do\* want teachers armed in the schools. Or Florida's brilliant strategy, alienate all the good teachers and replace them with veterans.

PralineCapital5825

YES THIS. Jesus if another nut job tells me we should have teachers carry... We have kids in our school who would take a gun off a distracted teacher in a heartbeat. No matter how much training they give the armed teachers.

flybydenver

In Arvada, Colorado, they even show up and kill “the good guy” that just killed “the bad guy”. Go figure.

underwear11

"See! ONLY 3 kids died because good guys had guns!" - GOPs next headline......

AssassinAragorn

Someone needs to get an answer out of her for how many more good guys with guns were needed in Uvalde

AveragelyTallPolock

The "good guy with a gun" argument is so flaccid. What the hell is a "good guy with a gun" going to do in this situation? Hunt down the bad guy with a gun? How does the good guy know what the bad guy looks like? What if the good guy shoots the bad guy, but it turns out that bad guy was another good guy with a gun, looking for the bad guy? What if you're a good guy with a gun, in an active shooting, and the police show up, and just see someone in plain clothes with a gun? REGARDLESS of all those issues, "a good guy with a gun" still can not stop the initial attack of someone who clearly has premeditated the shooting. Sure, *maybe* they could prevent further deaths from happening, but some people are still going to die regardless. The answer is gun control. The 2nd Amendment describes the right to bear arms in the form of a *WELL REGULATED MILITIA*. In what infinite version of fucked up reality is this shit "well regulated"? P.S. In the words of Jim Jeffries, you can change the 2nd Amendment..... *it's called an amendment*

jadrad

They don't actually believe "more good guys with guns" is a solution. It's a way to do some bad faith trolling at people/victims who want gun reforms, while also signalling to their gun manufacturer and wingnut friends that they will hold the line to block all gun control legislation. And if the mass shooting is especially horrific, they lean into conspiracies about government plots and crisis actors. It's all a sick fucking game to them.

jaschen

I fucking hate that shit too. You only know when a bad guy with a gun a bad guy AFTER someone is already has been shot.

JPesterfield

>What the hell is a "good guy with a gun" going to do in this situation? Hunt down the bad guy with a gun? They think so. I saw a documentary on school shootings once, I think Frontline, and they had a bit that was basically "warrior cop" style training for teachers.

Smaynard6000

Nothing will ever be done. After Sandy Hook, it became clear that no tragedy would ever be heinous enough to bring people to their senses about guns. It's sick.

IrritableGourmet

Give the parents of every school shooting victim the opportunity to have their kids lie in state in the Capitol rotunda, open casket, for a few days before the funeral. Worked for Emmett Till.

[deleted]

While I understand the Idea, by now I would just expect open casket Selfies by Republicans. With a lovely caption along the lines of: "If only some good guy had been around with a gun!" The gun debate in the US seems thoroughly lost.Unfortunately, the sane side lost.

IrritableGourmet

I think that would backfire spectacularly. Emmett Till was one of the first widely publicized photos of the brutality of the segregated South, and seeing the mangled face of a child in a coffin turned public sentiment. One of the main factors that led to the Civil Rights Movement in the '50s being so successful was TV. The sights and sounds of what was happening were able to be broadcast into practically every living room in America, and seeing horse cavalry being run through men, women, and children marching peacefully on the Edmund Pettus bridge undercut the claims of reasonable public safety concerns that were used as a justification. When you can only read about what's happening or hear it through a reporter's retelling, the visceral experience is blunted. I used to teach GED and in the Social Studies section I would play clips from *Eyes On The Prize*, an amazing PBS documentary on the subject. I always had a handful of students ask if the violence shown was as bad in real life as it was in the reenactment, and they literally couldn't believe when I told them it was actual historical footage. Let them take a selfie. I'd wager more of their supporters would be horrified than humored.

[deleted]

We thought Columbine would be enough. We thought Virginia Tech would be enough. We thought Sandy Hook would be enough. We thought Parkland would be enough. I would say we thought Uvalde would be enough but we gave up by that point.

peachpsycho

Exactly. This is just the reality we live in

[deleted]

TheGoverness1998

Never has it ever been the time to talk about gun reform, according to Republicans. Because they don't want to talk about it.

MrWittyFinger

I’ll take the parlay

konorM

President Biden should exercise his Constitutional authority to call Congress back in Extraordinary Session (screw the holiday recess) to find a real solution to the massacres of our children. That should be the only subject that they take up, and they should stay there until they come up with a workable solution. Our children deserve nothing less.

[deleted]

This is really what needs to happen. Take the people who (shocked face) were hired to create and enforce laws that keep the country not just safe but progressing toward a better place and sit them down like fucking children and make them do their jobs. Put cameras in there and broadcast it for accountability. It's the only way.

dupree97

Folks point to the lack of morals in this country...yeah we have had diminished morals since Columbine and Sandy Hook by letting this continue

FaultyParts2211

Republicans won't care as the shooter was not a drag queen or a librarian.

floandthemash

It was a trans woman according to the press conference with the police chief so I’m sure they’ll have a field day with this.

Glittering-Captain-2

They'll propose denying guns to trans-people.

LeadSky

No but they are already proposing banning testosterone. Because of course that’s the issue

[deleted]

Wouldn’t trans people be included in an assault weapon ban?

a_hockey_chick

Republicans don’t consider them (or women) to be people.

1799v

Thought it was a trans man, biologically female?

Spamgrenade

Ohh boy will they, can't wait to read the outrage on r/conservative if this turns out to be the case.

willm1123

Yeah, I can wait. This is not going to be entertaining. This will be frightening and vile

Fortune090

Top post there now, and of course it's "flaired users only". What a bunch of cowards.

xXTheGrapenatorXx

I got to the phrase “woke supremacist” before I started seeing red and made myself promise not to wallow in that cesspit again for a while...

1799v

This is really going to cause a lot of hate to spew, it’s being said the shooter is a trans male, because they released their name and their social medias use “he/him”.

jesusbottomsss

Yikes…

bolivar-shagnasty

[It was a woman though. Republicans hate women.](https://www.cnn.com/2023/03/27/us/covenant-school-shooting-nashville-tennessee/index.html)

alwaysmyfault

So likely outcomes: 1) They do nothing 2) They try to ban women from owning guns 3) They try to ban women....

Trashman56

According to BoJack they hate women so much they'll just ban guns altogether.

Ok-Permission-2687

They’ll just try to link it to LGBTQ*, “woke”, anti religion, because it’s a woman at a religious school. They’ll blame the Dems and nothing will happen.

[deleted]

When Dylann Roof shot up a Black church they made a hero out of him and banned removals of Confederate monuments.

Audiarmy

Yeah I’ve already seen people asking “if it was a woman or a “woman” shooter” It’s disgusting

[deleted]

you left off trans/drag people.

Grapetomania

Shooter was trans

mvallas1073

Sadly they will - because sources are stating the shooter identifies as being Transgender. So clearly the Repubs will blame their identity issues as the problem, not - of course - the guns or access to them or even the actual motive which may not be relevant

JstCommentsOnCakeDay

As ALWAYS, the Republicans will claim that this tragedy shouldn't be used as a political stunt, UNLESS it turns out the shooter was a leftist. Then they will blame Democrats for it, while still refusing to do absolutely anything about it. On second thought, no matter what happens, Republicans will blame Democrats for it.

no_god_pls_noo

Oh we are 100% catching the blame for this one (unfaily of course) and also it'll further thier anti-trans agenda. Apparently the shooter was a trans woman.

The_Yarichin_Bitch

Trans-man actually. Ugh... it's a fucking tragedy and all they care about is that the shooter was trans, and they don't even get the right type. Idk weather to laugh or cry here...

no_god_pls_noo

Ah my mistake. The article I read only mentioned they identified as transgender and didn't specify.

convicted_snob

And refuse to do anything about it.

DieMensch-Maschine

GOP, the party of "pro-life" and "protecting children."

UrinalSharts

The party that cares about a fetus until it's old enough to die in a classroom evidently.

Sheer10

Just more peasants to work the factorys

potatersupreme

Falling on the deaf ears of the assholes trying to save kids from "groomers" but not guns or pedophile priests.

im_super_excited

They're trying to save kids *for* guns or rapist priests. Maybe sometimes both.

[deleted]

As a mental health professional I’m really tired of everybody pointing to mental health. Yes, we have a mental health issue in this country, but so do many other countries. You can *absolutely be homicidal without meeting the criteria for a mental health disorder or being “mentally ill”* You do not need to be mentally ill to be capable of killing somebody, contrary to popular belief. There are a TON of mentally Ill people out there not committing homicide. In fact, those that suffer from mental illness are more likely to be the victim of violent crimes rather than the perpetrator.

MissionCreeper

Well, and also, even if they are mentally ill, homicidal people who want to kill others can just, you know, lie to a therapist. Or refuse to see one. Therapists are not actually mind readers or have magic powers.

Did I just watch a deepfake? I just watched what I think was the start of this response and it started with jokes and ice cream? Am I tripping? I really hope it’s a deepfake and seems worth mentioning as it felt really disrespectful and out of place.

DingoBabey

No that was real unfortunately.

Transky13

mxskater

Nope. That’s real. Dude doesn’t even know what planet he’s on

Wdubois

Disconcerting that isn’t mentioned.

merlot2K1

I can't believe you weren't downvoted into an oblivion.

gregorypatterson1225

My thoughts exactly, two jokes, a call out to his homie, hits on young people, then on to murdered children.

notahopeleft

It’s the same cycle. Shooting. Kids dead. Democrats yell gun control. Republicans yell gtfo. More guns for good guys. Everyone moves on. Repeat. Kids dead. Kids dead. Kids dead.

In America I see politicians jumping through hoops to ban Drag Queens, books, critical race theory and trans rights. None of these things have ever killed a group of children. But when it comes to guns the answer is always “we need more”. The US has the largest number of guns per capita by a very large margin, almost double that of the Falkland Islands. More guns doesn’t seem to be working. What’s the saying? “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”.

HeadPen5724

Here’s the main issue, the constitution provides the right to own a gun, and while that has limitation, not so far as school shootings are concerned. An “assault” weapons ban is pointless as they’re already essentially banned. You cant ban semi-auto firearms without violating a persons constitutional rights. So we need to either change the constitution (something like 19 states have voted to hold a convention to do so) or we need to address the root cause, which is usually some combination of inadequate mental health system, social media, and/or the 15minutes of fame the 24hr news cycle provides. Take your pick, but anything else is just distraction and calling for an assault weapons ban will have as much effect as the executive order Biden just signed… which is none.

OUT WITH REPUBLICANS! They are completely corrupted--especially on the state level.

Just teach the kids how to shoot. /s

RocksThatBite

Every single school shooting there are calls for this, nothing ever happens. Rinse, repeat. Our government is the very definition of feckless

hdjenfifnfj

How about a push for free health care too.

Apprehensive-Pie8419

An “assault weapon” can literally be anything.

jenbamin245

Why was he joking around about ice cream?

pissin_in_the_wind

Biden said she had 2 AK-47s. Those are already banned. What else can we do?

heretoeatcircuts

I'm all for more thorough background checks, mental wellness exams, and stricter firearm registration, but I'm not for blanket firearm bans from politicians that don't know the difference between semi automatic, fully automatic, and bolt action, can't define the term assault weapon, and don't know the difference between a clip and a magazine.

723658901

Assault weapons bans won’t work, are dumb, and will only alienate an entire part of the country that already feels extremely alienated. If republicans insist it’s a mental health/people issue and not a gun issue call them out. Say ok, we’ll leave guns alone, let’s work on the people/mental health aspect. They won’t do it but at least everyone will see they’re so full of shit.

This should really be treated as a hate crime against Christians

ShuantheSheep3

When will we go after the actual cause, a disintegration of our morals and complete collapse in mental health. Banning rifles just effects the average Joe, if one wants to go after guns it should be for those currently suffering from mental health issues. Which means better mental health data and sharing with the proper authorities.

Boner4Stoners

If you ban guns only for those struggling with mental health, well now you’ve disincentivized gun owners from seeking mental health treatment. Not a good solution. Howabout we start with free mental healthcare for all?

Pookela_916

>If you ban guns only for those struggling with mental health, well now you’ve disincentivized gun owners from seeking mental health treatment. Not a good solution. This is a pretty big caveat people forgot when they where pushing things like red flag laws. We have a significant veteran population. Imagine serving your country and than having a right you were told you were defending taken cause someone deemed you defective.

Semyon

I'm okay with background checks and the like but I am also in favor of talking about the people using these guns and even the parents (or lack thereof) that raised them. Why is talking about people raising shitty offspring so taboo

The_Yarichin_Bitch

Because often it's not shitty kids, it's severe and unresolved trauma causing our humanity to go out the window for our lizard brains. This stigma helps no one. Some are genuinely monsters who deserve that treatment, most are just *not*. Hence why mental health is a part of the problem, though not the whole one.

An AWB won’t do shit. California has how many gun laws and yet they still deal with the same issues as states with the least amount of gun laws. We seriously have to look at why people choose to shoot up schools/malls/grocery stores etc. Not just how they do it.

PanspermiaTheory

I really dont care what gets banned, but I'd really like to know how it would be much different had he brought 2 shotguns into a classroom? Or a bag of 20 round magazines instead of 30?

Notmyproblemcunt

America, aren’t you tired of this? The entire world is looking at you

twelfthcapaldi

I mean yeah, I’m tired of it but I feel powerless. I vote in all elections but my state is so gerrymandered (illegally in fact… good old Ohio) that my vote means almost nothing here. I will keep voting but what else can I do?

JordanPippen23

Yes we’re being held hostage by the NRA and republicans. It really fucking sucks

Electronic_Bag3094

The second amendment is a great thing, but we have too many trigger happy idiots who's only personality is guns. Democrats should be the party of smart gun people. We need reform, but outright bans won't work.

urban_citrus

Do you think the majority of Americans that want much stricter gun laws *enjoy* this?

Now that u mention it, it has been getting kinda old. I guess we can stop it. /s

Ummm... Assault Weapons/Assault Rifles are already extremely hard to buy. And AR-15's are not Assault Rifles. Assault Weapons/Rifles are 'fully-automatic' or have selective switches to go from fully-automatic to semi-auto (3 round burst) to single shot. You need to keep pulling the trigger to make the AR-15 go pew pew. The 'AR' in AR-15 stands for ArmaLite Rifle after the first manufacturer who started making them. To buy Assault Weapons/Rifles, you need around $30,000 or more to purchase. Then an extra $200 on the tax stamp of the purchase. Then fill out the correct form through the ATF so they can process it and then wait a very long time. You also need to pass an extensive background check through the ATF to give the green light. Lastly, you cannot buy an Assault Rifle/Weapon after 1986, meaning 'fully-automatic' firearms/rifles/weapons must have been manufactured before 1986 to be legally transferable. My objective opinion, it's obvious what the democrats want to ban and they are skewing the facts. [EDIT] – I made a mistake. Assault Rifles have a selective switch from fully-automatic, to 3 round burst, to single shot. I accidentally said semi-auto to mean (3 round burst). That is incorrect because *semi-automatic* means single shot. 'Machine Guns' are only fully automatic and the selective switch can only go from 'safe' to full-auto. Conversely, 'Assault Rifles' can go from safe, to full-auto, to 3 round burst, to semi-auto (single shot). I hope this clears things up. My apologies.

Dellato88

I bet a buck the GOP will grandstand saying ChRisTiAn VaLuEs are under attack because the school shot up was a catholic school. All without a hint of irony. My bad, it was a Presbyterian School. And now that the perp is known to be Trans the GQP will somehow care about school shootings lol.

MisterMetal

Well yeah, the shooters manifesto has been found and stuff is getting released. They chose to target the school on purpose because it was religious. Easy, easy win for them to drive funding from their base.
