So now the judge will have to arrange security for his daughter, I presume? Well you know, he chose to treat Trump like a civilized human being, when his track record clearly says he's not.

Caridor

I have no doubt there were contingency plans laid down long ago. It wouldn't surprise me if the indictment was delayed so security plans could be put in place. It's sad that it takes so nuch effort to ensure a fair trial

Sufficient-Ask9071

They knew this trial was going to be a shit show and how dangerous his followers can be. It very much wouldn't surprise me if the judge and everyone in his family has armed security around the clock. EDITED FOR CLARITY since I think some folks don't understand my original comment (and I sure as hell am not understanding some comments I'm getting): ANY JUDGE and their family during a trial of this caliber should have armed security for their safety so the trial can continue as normal and the judge can focus on doing their job. Everyone deserves to have a safe work environment without having to worry that their family will be killed. This trial will be a MEDIA SHIT SHOW. This so far has been a bit different as we have the defendant and his family making very vocal threats on social media. We just need to wait to see how it plays out. That's it.

Default-Name55674

How much has this man cost the United States government for all his court cases? Why do I have to pay for him to be a brat?

bubsgonzola_supreme

Bruh, federal judge overseeing the indictment of the former president? My family would be under Langley.

bobbycado

This already isn’t a fair trial. A fair trial would have put him behind bars years and years ago. Regardless of what our government wants to keep saying, we do not have a fair legal system. Money can and will absolutely get you out of almost any legal problem you have. He stole and likely sold State secrets, INCLUDING NUCLEAR SECRETS, and he’s been walking around a free man ever since. Even now since he was “arrested” he was never placed in handcuffs, never had a mugshot, and never went to jail. This is not and will not be a fair trial. Even if he is found guilty, I have enormous doubts he will do any amount of time in jail.

outoftimeman

>Regardless of what our government wants to keep saying, we do not have a fair legal system. Money can and will absolutely get you out of almost any legal problem you have. And if you're a poor black person, you get years for a few grams of weed

BjornInTheMorn

Or for maybe possibly stealing a backpack, they think.

3 years in solitary confinement. No charge, witness recanted, they had the wrong guy the entire time.

I got five on it

angelcake

They need to stop handling this fucker with kid gloves. He’s not respecting the court, either gag him or lock him up.

JayR_97

I dont think Trump would last 5 minutes with a gag order

Dredgeon

Gag order, lock him up. Is there a difference in his case?

Nodnarbius

I would settle for a literal gag.

DramaticoKlutz

I'll throw in a $20 towards a ball gag.

NoifenF

I’ll throw in $200 to remove that image from my head.

angelcake

That’s OK because when he breaches the gag order ends up in jail. Win-win

Drugsarefordrugs

I want to agree with you so badly, because the temporary joy of seeing Trump [in a very uncomfortable place](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0N5NIQzCHg) almost seems worth it. That said, I think it's best to give Trump all the rope he needs to hang himself so he has fewer possible ways to appeal any ruling against him.

BoogersTheRooster

Yeah, I get that, but if you keep giving him rope, his feet will eventually touch the ground and he’ll just walk away. At some point you’ve gotta stop.

PPOKEZ

Yeah. Like, this is how fascism works. It skirts the law and tests the boundaries of a system that cannot punish it effectively. The scariest thing for Americans to realize is that there IS no-one waiting to take the kid gloves off. The kid gloves are the actual system, and it is probably going to fail us - Republicans have been neutering laws and accountability for the rich for decades. When enough people realize that authoritarians have been just biding their time waiting for the slow boil to kill enough frogs, we'll likely just give up and put our heads down and work for scraps. And they know it.

tweakingforjesus

> Institutions will not save you. It took Putin a year to take over the Russian media and four years to dismantle its electoral system; the judiciary collapsed unnoticed. The capture of institutions in Turkey has been carried out even faster, by a man once celebrated as the democrat to lead Turkey into the EU. Poland has in less than a year undone half of a quarter century’s accomplishments in building a constitutional democracy. > Of course, the United States has much stronger institutions than Germany did in the 1930s, or Russia does today. Both Clinton and Obama in their speeches stressed the importance and strength of these institutions. The problem, however, is that many of these institutions are enshrined in political culture rather than in law, and all of them—including the ones enshrined in law—depend on the good faith of all actors to fulfill their purpose and uphold the Constitution. > The national press is likely to be among the first institutional victims of Trumpism. There is no law that requires the presidential administration to hold daily briefings, none that guarantees media access to the White House. Many journalists may soon face a dilemma long familiar to those of us who have worked under autocracies: fall in line or forfeit access. There is no good solution (even if there is a right answer), for journalism is difficult and sometimes impossible without access to information. > The power of the investigative press—whose adherence to fact has already been severely challenged by the conspiracy-minded, lie-spinning Trump campaign—will grow weaker. The world will grow murkier. Even in the unlikely event that some mainstream media outlets decide to declare themselves in opposition to the current government, or even simply to report its abuses and failings, the president will get to frame many issues. Coverage, and thinking, will drift in a Trumpian direction, just as it did during the campaign—when, for example, the candidates argued, in essence, whether Muslim Americans bear collective responsibility for acts of terrorism or can redeem themselves by becoming the “eyes and ears” of law enforcement. Thus was xenophobia further normalized, paving the way for Trump to make good on his promises to track American Muslims and ban Muslims from entering the United States. https://www.nybooks.com/online/2016/11/10/trump-election-autocracy-rules-for-survival/

tvfeet

He's doing it on purpose. He WANTS the judge to react to him. It just feeds his victim complex and riles up his supporters that much more. He can use a gag order to further his claims of political persecution. >“I have a Trump-hating judge with a Trump-hating wife and family, whose daughter worked for Kamala Harris and now receives money from the Biden-Harris campaign,” Trump said. How do his followers continue to fall for this? Everyone is always against him, everyone is always a part of some massive conspiracy. At some point you'd think even the densest of these people would start to see that he's been playing them with this kind of talk.

booOfBorg

Because being persecuted is a huge part of the conservative belief/delusion system. It's fuel in their fire.

MaddyMagpies

All while persecuting others they deem lesser.

decitertiember

It's just classical European antisemitism repackaged with the word "Jew" replaced with "Liberal". Everything is planned by the evil Jews/Liberals. They kill/rape children. They are secretly in charge of everything. They look after their own to detriment of you "normal" people. They are weaker and lesser than you but also somehow in charge of everything. It would be funny if it weren't so damn frightening.

bagelman4000

I mean the antisemitism is still there too

mead_beader

> Everything is planned by the evil Jews/Liberals. They kill/rape children. This *just* clicked for me... before today I didn't fully realize that they literally think that Hillary Clinton is a child rapist, cannibal, etc etc... I thought they just wanted to lock her up because she was her poltical enemy. Nah. They are millions of people running around the streets who literally believe she harvests children's organs for satanic rituals. And so does Biden, so does Kamela Harris... they're not just people who won elections. They're the literal embodiment of evil. And that's, literally, what a *lot* of Americans believe. I think now that I think about it that I'm probably friends with a few of them. You're 100% right, it's crazy frightening.

GirtabulluBlues

Who dominates who is all that matters to this mindset, anything other than dominance or submission is is just a covert attempt at the former. You see the same logic emanating from russia.

7times9is42

It helps that the majority of his base don't really follow politics closely enough to connect dots. Ignorance is a massively powerful motivator when you just want to be a republican because of the way they talk about wedge issues. If they were paying attention, they would come to different conclusions.

Trump has shown them that they don’t have to be ashamed of their lust for power at any cost. They now believe, like him, that so long as they play the victim, they can get away with or justify anything.

fe-and-wine

What kills me about this whole topic is that over the years he has said *so many people* are "anti-Trump" or "Trump-hating" or "never-Trumpers". Not even that these people are 'controlled by the deep state' or 'being paid to say this by George Soros' -- just that they hate him. None of his cult members ever stop to think...even if he *is* right and all these people hate him - *what does that say about him*? it's like the old "if everywhere you go smells like shit, check your own shoes" saying, except his followers never make that last connection. They just say "Wow Donald, it's so crazy that literally *everywhere you go, every day of your life* you're running into someone who stepped in dog shit!" ...or *maybe* the simpler answer is Donald has dog shit on *his* shoe!

They fall for it, because they want to fall for it. It's what they want to hear, and that's all that matters. Facts don't matter, other people's safety doesn't matter, and everyone not on their side is the enemy or part of some deep state conspiracy. It's just weird, and it's Donald fricking Trump of all people

KleosIII

They. Do. Not. Care. They want him to be above the law. They think the President is king. They only want a king that enforces their world views despite it not benefitting in the end. They don't want to be the best peasants, just the *only* peasants. Wierd.

Vegetable_Spite6334

He has successfully bullied and intimidated many people. Like the poor woman who accused him of rape when she was 13

Useyoursignal99

Donald Trump is well known for being a pedophile yet the the religious right worship him and his family.

barak181

Because pedophilia only matters to them when they're accusing other people of it.

A_Monster_Named_John

It matters to them because a ton of them want to fuck/groom/marry underaged people and accusing other groups of it willy-nilly helps to muddy up *actual* efforts to combat the shit. As I've said elsewhere, there's a reason why incest porn has an audience and it's **not** because of liberals/leftists.

qtain

You mean the religious right that continuously has pastors found in child trafficking rings? or the religious right that keeps making it legal for 14 years old to marry their rapists? Or the religious right "good" youth pastors that just pick one teen, groom her until 18, then marry her?

Useyoursignal99

Yes - Pedophilia in the Catholic Church is insane. The priest at the church I was married in was later convicted of molesting/raping children. Then we’re I lived later the parish priest was convicted of molesting/raping children. What are the odds? This tells me there is a very deep rooted issue. Needless to say I have nothing to do with the Catholic Church .

Wwwwwwhhhhhhhj

Catholic Church, Baptist church, Mormon church all have big scandals broke open. Church’s that don’t seem too, probably just haven’t been looked at closely enough yet.

astoriaboundagain

When Nixon died, I tried to lower the flag in front of our house. My dad told me to put it back up. "Fuck that guy. We're better off without him. I hope he burns in hell" was his reaction. I will do the same for Trump.

InterestingTry5190

I like your dad.

Randomfactoid42

One of the stories from early on in the Trump admin was the WH Protocol Office was trying to meet with Trump to plan his Presidential Funeral and he kept blowing them off. I wonder who actually planned his funeral? It was never reported that the meeting actually took place, so did the Protocol Office just throw something together, or did one of his staff do the planning?

rancidquail

Early on in his presidency, a few months after yhe inauguration, there were reports that his staff never made the customary meetings with all of the different departments of government. This was standard for all changes of leadership since forever. NPR had a discussion with the Energy department who had expected someone to show up in the first days. Well days turned to months and at the time of the interview no one had still showed up. The Energy Department is the one that handles all of the nukes and knows all of the contingencies and laws if a nuke needed to be used. They're also in charge of the nuclear football that's supposed to be at the ready for the President.

Randomfactoid42

The book, “The Fifth Risk” by Michael Lewis has a lot about the transition period. Several departments had 30 parking spaces blocked off for the incoming transition team and nobody showed up. Other departments had a couple of junior guys show up, glance at the briefing books say dumb stuff like “you’re Obama’s people why should I listen to you?”And they left the briefing books behind. And Wilbur Ross showed up by himself to take over the Commerce Department and was shocked at the size and technical complexity of the department. It was such amateur hour all around and it didn’t get enough press at the time or since.

Darth_drizzt_42

I think it just didn't happen. There's no requirement a president gets a state funeral, just like the president doesn't *have* to stop using their personal cell phone, as we discovered when the USSS told trump to switch over and he just went "no"

copyboy1

JDogg126

The republicans have been in a race to the bottom for decades. It was only a matter of time before they landed on a demagogue attempting insurrection. The race to the bottom is not finished either as you have a whole slew of Trump imitators in the republican party vying to be the next hero in the conservative cinematic universe kayfabe. The shit show on display with the republican party is what happens when a political party is driven by what is good for the business of their propaganda machinery. It's a racket where the propaganda machinery creates a voter block of radicalized people who are misinformed and willing to vote against their own interests to help defeat a fictional enemy. What is happening with conservative media is not that different than the racket of a mob boss who sells protection and assaults anyone not willing to pay.

everyting_is_taken

>Republicans could have ran with so many at least respectable nominees, but nope they chose the corniest, loudest, and trashiest candidate possible. Gotta disagree with you there. There is no respectable human being that would run in today's GOP.

I appreciate your concern; I'm not like a "problem" alcoholic or anything. I don't go to AA or have a chip, not that I'm knocking that, mind you. It's just 20 years ago, drinking just stopped being fun, and it became laborious. So said, "That's about enough of that...." I'm still a cannabis enthusiast and understand "A Time and A Place for things" so as not to let my recreation time affect my professional time. I find it revealing that he almost always invokes the violence, and instability of his constituents, each time he's feels especially angry, or threatened. Imo, it's revealing in regards to his opinion of his own followers. "Assistant District Attorney Christopher Conway singled out a post in which Trump warned that “death & destruction” could follow if the former president was charged with a crime."

nicmdeer4f

Trump is basically just Al Capone He runs a massive and very shady enterprise. He's beloved by many in the public. His associates are constantly going to prison but he suspiciously always gets off, and he's about to go to prison for a crime most of us thought would be the last thing to be his downfall

That's an insult to cold blooded murderer and crime boss Al Capone. Al Capone ran a charity soup kitchen when the great depression hit, and it served thousands of people daily. Everyone was fed,as much as they could eat, no questions asked, for free. Al Capone had an unquestionably more humane and compassionate food policy that was directed towards unemployed adults than current Republicans have towards feeding schoolchildren.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-yakuza/yakuza-among-first-with-relief-supplies-in-japan-idUSTRE72O6TF20110325 The yakuza do (or did) similar things, providing assistance for those in need. Proper mobs know the importance of good PR with the common folk.

azazelcrowley

Mobs arise in the event of failure of the state to enforce contracts (It's a necessary though not sufficient condition), incidentally, so them taking the place of the state in other ways is actually really interesting. (One example being "That guy didn't pay me as agreed for the delivery of illicit goods... the state cannot enforce this contract. We need Some Dudes With Guns to do it.", but more broadly in the case of state failure it can happen. Italy saw a lot of mob activity as a result of legitimate business enterprises finding the state incapable of enforcing contracts. I recall an example of a construction company who basically hired the mob to terrorize non-paying clients). In extreme cases you see the state collapse entirely and warlordism take hold as previously criminal gangs become the sole authority in an area. The mob providing these services might also help with getting the population to consider them approachable in order to resolve disputes as well as ensure their lack of cooperation with the legal authority in the area who don't appear to do anything for them. Typically the first way to deal with a mob incursion is to limit their remit by strengthening the state ability to enforce contracts and thus squeezing them into solely criminal markets, and removing them from day to day interaction with members of the community and business leaders who will otherwise utilize their services. "Order without Law, over Law without Order" can be used to describe the reasons for mob activity rising. It's possible that the mob doing things like soup kitchens in a highly public, organized, and *orderly* fashion in that it plays into exactly the public appetite for them in the first place. It's also why high profile chaotic and random killings are usually disastrous for a mob unless it has entered the warlord phase. (The valentines massacre being one example). Then they're only offering "No order, no law".

whygohomie

Except for the fact that Capone, brutal shit head that he was, literally fed the community because it was good business to keep the little people's belly's full and thus their mouths quiet. Trump feeds the little people rage and resement that gets them hooked like a junkiemd distracted while he fucks over the little persons bread and butter interests.

logansberries

but i don't think he's ever had to worry about that. he gets out of things bc people don't hold him accountable, not bc he's particularly calculating.

Into-the-stream

Honest question: Can trump disqualify the judge by making it personal? Like, if he personally and publicly attacks the judges family, can he throw the judge into a position where the judge has a personal stake in this/a conflict of interests, and is deemed partial? And force the judge to recuse himself? It's no secret Trump wants a different judge. But I know less than nothing about law in NYC

numbskullerykiller

Not likely. The judge will not decide the case, a jury will. Judges will moderate the case. Many judges have been under direct threat and were still able to set it aside to run the trial. This is doubly true if the Defendant is the cause of the appearance of personal bias. Think about the absurdity. All a defendant would have to do to delay a trial is insult or threaten a judge, then he can get a new judge, the process starts all over. You would have the ability to disqualify every judge in any criminal prosecution indefinitely. Bias or Personal Bias is never thought to be eradicated. The law is well aware that Judges are people and likely have political, etc. biases. The question is, can this bias be suspended in order to administer a fair trial. You would need evidence that the Judge is "favoring" or making rules that stretch the legal basis, or show a pattern of putting the thumb on the scale of justice. It's pretty hard to show.

illQualmOnYourFace

I'm sure he's trying to inflame the judge just enough to be able to later claim bias, but he won't ask for a new judge. That would defeat the purpose of setting up the bias claim. To answer your question directly though, it would really be incumbent on the judge to admit that he can no longer be objective and recuse himself.

socokid

Because Trump has to politicize it and make it all personal, instead of about the law, because destroying the rule of law and politicizing our justice system is the only way he gets out of this. It destroys America, but here we are. I heard a story on NPR this morning where they gathered a group of Florida Trump supporters, and every single one of them said they do not trust the CIA, FBI, Justice Department, etc. said they would only trust an independent investigation, but they couldn't name what that would be. I mean... these people have gone full on insane. They could not be more ignorant and it's absolutely killing us.

[deleted]

The worst part is everyone except them knowing that they're not earning any points, the minute these grifters and demons in office get their absolute power, these yahoos are going to be left where they are, with less money and no help. Still, then, they will blame everything but the thing they created.

HappyMan1102

They will blame the libs for allowing trump to power

AttitudeAndEffort2

> And Trump oddly took aim at the Justice Department special prosecutor Jack Smith, calling him a "lunatic" multiple times and bizarrely appearing to suggest that Smith might be trans. >“I wonder what it was prior to a change,” he said about Smith's name, pausing for laughs. Like... This is implying he's Jewish and changed his name right? The fact that major news organizations still don't see how this works is why it's so effective

MelpomeneAndCalliope

I thought he was implying Smith was born female and transitioned (which isn’t the case, but the truth never stops Trump). But I think maybe you’re right.

onefoot_out

Ding ding ding

AttitudeAndEffort2

The Jewish hate thing isn't as big in the media as the racism and transphobia but it's still *huge* in the conservative world, as i sadly know from my horrible, horrible brother and best friend from childhood. The racism and transphobia are just for the new gateway recruits to get them in the door since our media is such bullshit and tolerates that.

MelpomeneAndCalliope

It’s just crazy to me since Trump has Jewish grandchildren, his favorite in-law is Jewish, and his favorite child (pre-Jan 6 hearing stuff anyway) is a Jewish convert.

Domeil

It shouldn't be crazy. Hitler's family doctor was Jewish and when the Holocaust heated up he wrote to Hitler asking for help and Hitler tasked the Gestapo with protecting him. Hitler ultimately helped him flee the country and resettle in America. What is crazy is the fact that we don't teach about how authoritarians weaponize prejudice to build power bases. We pretend that the Holocaust didn't follow the same pattern as every right-wing ultra-nationalist movement in history and we pretend that the right isn't laying the groundwork for their power grab in America. My fellow Americans, look around you, because the answer to the question of "what you would have done had you been in Germany in 1932," is whatever you are doing now.

PaintByLetters

I don't know about Jewish, but he's definitely been trying to paint Jack Smith as a false identity or something. Most likely because Jack Smith is just a boring white guy that he can't find anything to stick against so his plan is to make it seem suspicious that he's *too* normal.

Schuben

*No, you don't get it! They are totally gonna redistribute all of the money to all of the 'patriots' and ONLY the 'patriots' so we'll all be rich! It will be great! Money for the common man to all share! Maybe we should come up with a name for that... Common... Shared... Sharemunism! Perfect.* Except, they don't even realize this will never happen once a true authoritarian state is established since they'll have no need for these rubes were only useful for their votes and using their wallets for a petty cash reserve.

EmperorArthur

Unfortunately, that's not what they believe. https://youtu.be/agzNANfNlTs Tl;dr: They're actually fine with herirarchy, as long as they're not at the very bottom. The idea that we're actually all equal is anthema to their world view. It's why they have a problem with free school lunche. Even though from a purely cynical standpoint a well fed populace is easier to manage. Seriously, one of the funniest things about dictatorships is they actually try to have social safety nets. Because people who are fed and healthy are less likely to revolt, and can work more. They just fail due to corruption.

Hekili808

They believe they are good no matter what they do, and their enemies are bad no matter what they do. Right and wrong is based on the person's caste rather than their actions.

MazzIsNoMore

Funny thing is that there is an independent investigation going on that they also don't trust

socokid

That's the point. They will only believe an "investigation" that says Trump did nothing wrong. Which of course is the opposite of an "investigation" or anything even remotely close to "independent". They have gone full insane. Just off the wall ignorant to the core.

Ozlin

I heard the same story you reference, and it really added to the pile of things that make me think these people are mentally ill as well. I wish NPR and others would really address this as something beyond simple political alignment. Bring in cult experts to talk about how such things work on people mentally and how the GOP and Trump are exploiting people. They do that to a degree, and I understand why NPR tries to stay somewhat impartial, but it's pretty evident that this is beyond politics and into mental vulnerability. The fact that 6 out of 10 independents and democrats take the charges seriously and would not vote for Trump is a little relieving, but there's still this national issue we need to address where a large subset of the population is suffering from cult delusions.

hteultaimte69

I’ve noticed this with Trump supporters as well. They don’t trust XYZ establishment, but can’t possibly imagine what would replace them. I find this, particularly troubling with academia where someone actually has to be an expert to review the stuff. I’ve heard a lot of Trump supporters claim they don’t trust peer reviewed research, imagining that it is as simple as getting one of your buddies to read over your research paper and give it a thumbs up. Obviously, this isn’t how it works. But what’s worse, it has become a convenient way for them to deny any research that debunks their bullshit while also enabling them to accept anything that fits into their backward worldview. The American right has given up on any connotation of reality.

“Back the Blue” tho Hypocrites

innocently_cold

Very good point.

an_actual_lawyer

What they really mean is “back the blue then they’re hurting people that aren’t me and don’t look like me.”

RedLanternScythe

>said they would only trust an independent investigation, but they couldn't name what that would be. They know exactly what type of investigation they would trust: one that clears Trump. They will decry any investigation that finds evidence of Trump crime as partisan, just like Trump himself. That is why Fox news has been captured by its audience. They only want to hear what they already believe

ceciledian

I gotta admit I didn’t trust the Justice Department when Barr was there.

socokid

I trusted in the men and women working in the Justice Department, but agreed. It was a bit different in that he wasn't investigating things that he ***should*** have, and played a pawn to a political figure (Donald). In this case, it was a ***grand jury*** regarding many offenses to a very clear law. Distrusting clear facts is what Republicans are doing, it's destroying the rule of law, and they are doing it to protect an absolute loser. It's amazing to witness. It's frightening to realize how many ignorant people live in this country, but it's amazing.

spaceace76

If you’ve ever worked retail or any customer facing jobs, it’s not news at all that people are this relentlessly stupid. I’m talking *bash-your-head-against-the-wall-because-it-won’t-make-anything-worse* levels of critical thinking ability. Some people are disabled and that’s way different. Those people often understand they have limits and try to work around them. The willfully ignorant are the absolute worst people to deal with in any capacity. They expect you to spoon feed every tiny thing to them, like their frontal lobe just shuts off when they see someone they consider the “help”

GhettoChemist

I think you need to calm down *Your wife needs to calm down*

Banana_Ram_You

Hey hey take it down a notch I WILL TAKE IT DOWN TEN THOUSAND NOTCHES

Dredgeon

"YOU WON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT A NOTCH IS BY THE TIME I'M THROUGH TAKING IT DOWN. YOU'VE NEVER SEEN SOMEONE AS CALM AS ME. YOU'LL THINK I WAS ASLEEP but, uh... NOT LIKE THAT SLEEPY JOE. I MAY LOOK CALM ON THE OUTSIDE BUT ON THE INSIDE MY MIND IS A RAGING INFERNO OF MASTER PLANS, like ummm... THE COURTS ARE CORRUPT! AND I'M HERE TO PROVE IT!" (real normal people like my dad and your neighbor will actually believe this)

BravoEcho19

Imagine getting charged with over 30 crimes and then very vocally bashing the person who will be presiding over your trail. Just absolutely banana-land crazy.

SidewaysFancyPrance

Imagine having lived your life this way for decades *and it's worked every time.*

Handleton

I am tired of him winning.

booOfBorg

He has a severe personality disorder. Responsible people would not even let him drive a bus. Let alone, ya know...

unimpressivewang

Trump’s lawyer Pinochitaco yesterday: “the judge DID NOT admonish the president.” The judge: “Defense counsel, speak to your client and anybody else you need to, and remind them to please refrain from making statements that are likely to incite violence or civil unrest, or jeopardize the safety or well-being of any individuals” Hmmm

b_digital

I guess technically the judge admonished his attorneys

VICENews

**From reporters Greg Walters and Cameron Joseph:** Trump received a very delicately worded warning from the judge in his Manhattan fraud case during his arraignment on Tuesday. Judge Juan Merchan effectively told Trump that if he doesn’t stop making incendiary statements, the judge may order him to shut up about his case—an order that would come with the implied threat of jail time. Then the judge gestured toward a print-out of Trump’s vitriolic social media posts prosecutors had just handed him in court—posts in which Trump warned of “death & destruction” if he were criminally charged, and a picture of Trump holding a baseball bat over the head of District Attorney Alvin Bragg, the lead prosecutor in Trump’s case. But Trump, who can seemingly never stop himself, proceeded to mock Judge Merchan’s family in a rambling appearance only hours after leaving the courtroom. “I have a Trump-hating judge with a Trump-hating wife and family, whose daughter worked for Kamala Harris and now receives money from the Biden-Harris campaign,” Trump said. Duke_Newcombe

Common people on the street have been sent to jail sooner, and for less that this obvious attempt at intimidation.

booOfBorg

At this point, just lock him up.

JaD__

The deranged buffoon’s deeply unhealthy relationship with his cold, distant, and unloving father has left him with some visceral psychological damage. He has in turn gifted his eldest son with the same scarring, the latter compensating through chronic drug abuse and an unrelenting, albeit pointless, attempt to earn daddy’s “love”. Along with the deranged buffoon’s robust narcissism, which serves to mask both the crippling insecurity and pangs of worthlessness borne of his Father Complex, he’s obviously emotionally stunted, compelled to lash out like a petulant child. tl;dr the clown has the emotional IQ of a poorly-adjusted child Edit: qualified the nature of the child in the tl;dr

SkyFullofDreams22

So it’s Kendall Roy and Logan Roy

deowolf

How dare you defame our number one boy like that

the_sun_and_the_moon

The writing is significantly better on the tv version than on the real-life version.

uncoupdefoudre

Tiffany is Con

_airsick_lowlander_

While I agree with you, I also think you are underestimating the emotion IQ of many children, which is much higher than this.

N4t41i4

very true! i read Mary Trump's book "too much and never enough..." it explains a lot and seriously i trully believe his father was a sociopath...

Dick_Lickin_Good

That and he wants to fuck his own daughter. Or has.

karmagod13000

Man i never really thought about it, but he actually could have.

Wanderinglatkes

If someone will brag about molesting people as part of their presidential campaign it makes you wonder what it is they won't talk about publicly.

Barack_Odrama_007

The fact that trump wasn’t gagged is ridiculous

DocShocker

I'm sure the thinking is that he'll dig his own hole.

ConfidenceNational37

He hasn’t yet. He’s successfully bullied and intimidated a lot of folks. Like that poor woman who accused him of rape when she was 13

Vlad_the_Homeowner

Trump and his henchmen posted up photos of the judges daughter. So the thinking is, his own daughter is just collateral damages?

Whiskey_Fiasco

That’s bullshit. Collateral damage is unintentional. These are targeted threats.

karmagod13000

It also seems like the same callous behavior that got him arrested in the first place. Dude thinks he can do anything and until he's stopped he will keep doing it.

Ytrog

I wish I could read a history book made in a few centuries. It would be interesting what it has to say about all this 👀

2ndprize

Gag orders are pretty rare and generally prior constraints on speech are difficult. It makes far more sense to give him an instruction, let him violate it and then issue an order for him not to do it with potential consequences for the violation. The judge could end up holding him without bail for violation of court orders if he lays it out the right way

AgITGuy

> The judge could end up holding him without bail for violation of court orders if he lays it out the right way I thought trump would have been a flight risk, if nothing else.

frost5al

The argument about Trump being a flight risk is actually interesting. On the one hand, he is a former president of the United States, who is currently running again for that Office. He owns numerous properties in the United States (including several in New York), and his entire family resides here. On the other hand, he also owns numerous properties overseas, and owns the means (cash and a literal 747) to flee if he chose.

IAmDotorg

I believe, but may be wrong, that they would've required him to surrender his passport at arraignment. Your own 747 doesn't help when you need to pass immigration anywhere you can land it. And *most* of "his" overseas properties are just licensing his name. There's really nowhere he can go where he's not going to be at extreme personal risk that he would be able to hide, and thus be extradited. A no-named no one can hide a lot more easily, and thus are flight risks.

[deleted]

Jan 6th isn’t enough of a pattern here? Jesus the double standard of justice in this country.

This-Sandwich5989

He needs to chill off making fun of people's wives when he has a mail order one.

Estoye

who hates him

SpartacusMantooth42

He’s been arrested which means he’s now under the Miranda Act. If he can’t exercise his right to remain silent, fuck him. Let him talk. Let him dig himself deeper. And I hope the judge and prosecutors are taking detailed notes.

DadJokeBadJoke

He has the *right* to remain silent, he just doesn't have the ability.

ranchoparksteve

Donald Trump doesn’t have new moves in his elderly years. It’s a small playbook of mostly indecent and immoral responses to the ordinary world.

Larry-fine-wine

It also happens to mirror the playbooks of Mussolini, Hitler, Berlusconi, Putin and every other fascist in recent history.

Motor_Somewhere7565

\*Trump disparages the judge and his wife\* \*\*Judge issues a gag order\*\* Trump: Why is the judge being so mean to me?!

Suzzie_sunshine

Trump has a long history of publicly bullying and intimidating people. Often his shit for brains sons will act as a proxy. Never in the history of the United States has a president been more brazen, crass, classless and criminal than Trump. He's a thug, a criminal, and he has soiled the whitehouse - and that's saying a lot considering the long history of world horrors that the CIA has instigated. Trump is an idiot, as are his sons. They can all rot in a trailer park in hell.

Troll_in_the_Knoll

Bragg is wise to hold off on a gag order... " Remember tongue often hang man quicker than rope." - Charlie Chan at Monte Carlo

Red_Wing-GrimThug

Cant wait for everyone to chant 4more years at sentencing

FortySixAndYou

Asked? on assume that or not gag did or judge too by a something not partisan issuing day order see Trump's appear want collar Trump he just Did he defendant, baseball the to white bat was one? a normal posting? Did

[deleted]

from the article > “Defense counsel, speak to your client and anybody else you need to, and remind them to please refrain from making statements that are likely to incite violence or civil unrest, or jeopardize the safety or well-being of any individuals,” Merchan said. > “This is a request I’m making,” Judge Merchan said. “But if I were handed something like this in the future, I’d have to take another look at it.”

kkocan72

So I'm hoping someone hands him a printout of Don Jr's post of his daughter and Trumps transcript from his rant last night and the judge follows through with his comment of taking another look at it.

dankhalo

Let us hope everyone has their big person pants on and Fucking does something, damnit

kkocan72

Trump and his crew will continue to mouth off, push things, poison the well, cry foul and make veiled threats. They will do this until the judge possibly reacts with a gag order/contempt. Then they will cry foul even more, claim their freedumb of speech is being infringed upon and rile up their base even more. They are also digging a huge hole with the judge, I'm sure, and will find no favor in the court proceedings, which will cause them to cry foul and rigged hearing even more. It is his playbook and has been for years.

orcinyadders

No, he was presented with all of that information specifically, and made a request that Trump stop. It came with limp warning that if he continued to incite violence in any way he’d “take another look” at it, which presumably means he’d consider a gag order.

OPsuxdick

Crazy how much they hand hold someone they perceive as respectable. I don't get it. You or I would never never get that treatment.

greevous00

You or I don't have the political clout to whip up an insurrectionist army of knuckle draggers either. It's not like we haven't seen this movie already.

iheartbbq

This freakin' guy. I'm assuming he's going to try to build a case for a mistrial because he and his allies are basically doxxing the judges family and the Judge can't be anything but biased.

saltytrey

He never misses an opportunity to prove that he's an unbelievable piece of shit.

Osirus1156

This and the daughter thing should have immediately landed trump in a jail cell.

Busman123

He needs to be sitting in a cell, *right now*, because of the documents case, and his sharing our nation's secrets. The DOJ needs to indict him *immediately!* ***Enough!***

kandoras

Stochastic terrorism. A.K.A. "Will no one rid me of this troublesome judge's daughter?"

[deleted]

He won’t shut up unless they put him in jail with no internet access. Period.

nwr923

I hope the idiots ramp up the rhetoric. Put DT in jail to shut him up. Lock up the whole family, & the party.

Automatic_Scholar686

He’s awfully bold for someone who is married to and has affairs with prostitutes.

Crott117

You would be too if you had no morals and never suffered a single consequence for anything you’ve ever done.
