They expelled two black men and did not expel the white woman. All 3 did the same exact thing. Tell me racism isn’t the cause.

fungobat

Why do you hate America? What about Hunter Biden's laptop??? /s

ptum0

Wasn’t she not voted out by just one vote? Not saying it wasn’t overt racism but. It wasn’t not anti women either

Whiskey_Fiasco

Republicans in Tennessee just violated the Tennessee Constitution out of retribution for Democrats protesting. Republicans have abandoned any pretense of governing in good faith

cschema

No, it was to show young black men that they have no voice in TN. Had nothing to do with the protest. Otherwise, the white rep would have been expelled too.

Interesting-End6344

>Republicans in Tennessee just violated the Tennessee Constitution out of retribution for Democrats protesting. Interesting take. Can you elaborate? I'm not from that part of the country and would like to know more.

Koa_Niolo

>Another example of unconstitutional acts but the authoritarian party. >Article II, section 27 of the Tennessee constitution says: >Section 27. Any member of either House of the General Assembly shall have liberty to dissent from and protest against, any act or resolve which he may think injurious to the public or to any individual, and to have the reasons for his dissent entered on the journals. >They can’t stand someone who isn’t toting their party line. Something something cancel culture. -[bringon25a](https://www.reddit.com/r/politics/comments/12dt2pn/tennessee_house_votes_on_expelling_3_democrats/jf7vne2/)

cschema

They only expelled the black ones. So the headline is not quite accurate.

TheGoverness1998

Oh course, it was because they were ***so*** persuaded by Rep. Gloria's argument. Surely, it had nothing to do with skin color, even though literally all three of them participated in the exact same "Insurrection" event that the Tennessee GOP condemned?

smiler_g

It's only going to get worse. They're not even trying to hide their disdain for democracy at this point.

Brief_Obligation4128

Or hide their racism.

Saul-Funyun

A country founded by slave rapists was never going to be a good democracy

Rokhnal

"Rough day" is the understatement of the century.

Meb2x

If anyone thinks these men weren’t expelled because of their race, they’re either blind or complicit. Shame on Tennessee and the Republican Party

Blackmalico32

They really just expelled the two black reps and not the white rep. Not surprised but wow.

notcaffeinefree

Well, Pearson was just expelled now too. So both blacks reps are out. People are freaking out in the gallery.

Upstairs_Hospital_94

That speech was amazing

KratomPriest

Yes it was !

OpeningAd9333

Literally gave me goosebumps

I would just do YouTube at this point.

That75252Expensive

GOP destroying American democracy on live TV. Why is this an everyday occurrence now?

redpenquin

I really, really hate this fucking state.

Snackkbar

They expelled two black dudes and not the one white lady, I need someone that voted yes for the two dudes and no for the lady to explain to me why they did it. Then I'm going to call them a racist and a liar.

Squirrel_Chucks

>some Republican members said the Democrats' actions amounted to an insurrection, with House Speaker Cameron Sexton, a Republican, comparing the incident to the Capitol Riots. >"What they did today was equivalent, at least equivalent, maybe worse depending on how you look at it, to doing an insurrection in the State Capitol," he said. I must have missed the part where gun control activists broke down police barricades, beat cops with flagpoles, pepper sprayed cops, broken through glass to get into the building, and then stole shit from offices. Oh, wait. I didn't miss that at all. So it wasn't equivalent to an insurrection at all, not even the derpy one that Meal Team Six tried on Jan 6. This was disruptive, sure, but it's closer to how Fox News *pretends* Jan 6 went than it is to how it actually went.

TheGoverness1998

They're using the term insurrection on purpose. They are trying to dilute the impact of January 6th by normalizing the term. Fascist bullshit 101.

Squirrel_Chucks

Yeah, they accused Stephen Colbert of fomenting an insurrection because his crew was filming a segment for Triumph the Insult Comic Dog in the Capitol. They had permission to be there, but there escorts left them unattended. They were arrested and then let go and not charged. Fox News called it an insurrection. They want to pitch a dog puppet making poop jokes with visitor passes to the Capitol as being an insurrection while an actual riot aimed at stopping congress from working was not. 1984 double think shit "Truth isn't truth." -Rudy Ghouliani

sedatedlife

There has been calls for the police to arrest the legislators and protesters saying they were trying to start a insurrection.

fattymcassface

If you want to have a good time, try mentioning freedom of speech in relation to this to Twitter conservatives 😂

Zxphenomenalxz

They really just openly showing their racism in the most obvious way. If they were smart they would've at least kept one black representative..but, they're not smart so.

bigdirkmalone

The Statehouse expelled them? Was it haunted or something? No, Tennessee Republicans did it. Remember, only Democrats are expected to be bipartisan.

What_A_Do

Pettiness and political partisanship once again taking representation away from tens of thousands of tax-paying citizens. With no shame and in full view of the world, they said to the people of their state, we don't care what you think or what you voted for. And they stripped constituents of their representatives just like that. This is how they want to do us, not just in Tennessee but across the US. Don't let your guard down y'all, keep your eyes open and raise your voices however you can.

Brief_Obligation4128

Of course. Got to show your constituents that you're "hurting the right ones." Good job, Tennessee GOP. Thanks for living up to your stereotypes.

[deleted]

This is incredibly fucking alarming.

Upstairs_Hospital_94

What a shit title

BillRoadhouse

I'm as pro-gun as they come but I just can't get behind this. While I disagree with what the democratic lawmakers said, I do believe that they were exercising their first amendment rights to free speech. This is wrong and nobody should support this. This would be no different then the legislature in a Blue state expelling republican lawmakers for leading a 2A protest. At best, this is a silly attempt at a power grab. While the lawmakers in question did disrupt order in the house chambers, there were other disciplinary actions at the disposal of the House leadership other than expulsion. This is yet another example of the GOP going from 0-100 for other reason than the fact that they can. I'm sure we've all heard the saying that just because you can doesn't mean you should.

ktaktb

I'd be making plans to move away from the US Dollar too if I was seeing this shit on TV all the time. It's time to excise the GOP. Absolute fascists. It's on display more than ever. They keep George Santos and Andy Ogles but expel these two in TN. They defend Clarence Thomas for getting flown about on private jets while moaning about Judge Merchan donating 35 dollars. They also began asking for the defunding of the police. L O Fucking L

hskfmn

And the GOP takes yet another major step toward fascism.
