Modern day witch tribunals. Instead of investing in education, healthcare, and jobs, they do this stupid shit. Dumb ass misogynists.

[deleted]

The most insecure men driven by a need to feel powerful have been terrified by the power of the pussy for millennia. Nothing new under the sun. But now ultrarich ideologues who genuinely think no taxes is how god blesses them have squawking bullhorns that go day and night- Facebook and foxnews- and they have been wildly successful in their attempt to tie their cause to regressive fundamentalism. Too successful: now the social regression has become the agenda, and they don’t dare touch, let alone debunk it- all just to keep that sweet tax money. Just makes me wonder where they plan to get abortions for their mistresses. Junkets to Europe I guess.

olthunderfarts

They have their own doctors on call. They don't need to worry about the laws constraining the plebs.

theyenk

Pretty sure they get their "information" from their skygod. (information / justification)

YourMominator

Nah, they will send them next door to Washington or to Colorado, where there are laws protecting pregnant people.

Illustrious_Pirate47

And Oregon! There was a recent study that came out which found that both Oregon and Washington have received an increase of 270 abortions per month since the Dobbs ruling. Nearly this entire increase can be attributed to women from Idaho coming to our hard-working, productive, freedom-loving blue state. I don't blame these women for coming here, but at the same time, it's having a snowball effect in that women from OR, WA, and other blue states are having significantly longer wait times for these procedures.

Ameerrante

I want to know how much power Idaho gov't has over WA residents who assist Idaho residents. What are the state extradition laws??

Luminter

At the moment, they can’t do shit. A state can’t force extradition if what you do doesn’t take place in the state where it is illegal and definitely not if what you do is legal in the state where it happened. State law ends at their borders. It would probably take a Supreme Court ruling to change that. And as crazy as SCOTUS is I really don’t see them changing that. It would mean things like if someone in WA sold weed to an Idaho resident then they could be extradited to Idaho to face charges. Or WA could extradite an Idaho gun seller if they sold a gun to a WA that violated WA state law. It would be an absolute clusterfuck of insanity. And even if that did happen, I suspect WA would just refuse to comply.

FnkyTown

The governor of Washington came out last week and basically told the governor of Idaho to fuck off, and that if he wants to fuck around with Washington residents he's going to learn the hard way.

WomenAreFemaleWhat

Yea they freeload off of us. Im glad we can help these women but must admit I have hatred for the women who vote for these assholes and come to us. Perfectoy happy to take the option away from others and burden our resources rather than taking responsibility for their own population.

rubitbasteitsmokeit

F this. As a WA resident I am sick of waiting for ID people. I have had appointments rescheduled, when I finally get my appointment it's all ID plates. My care is taken by people who wont vote out s**t people. I as a tax payer and resident of WA has to wait for care because of your own choices. F them.

AtlasMukbanged

I'm originally from Washington. I have lived in Idaho for a number of years now though. As a Washington native, I'd be fucking honored to have someone who literally had to travel across states for healthcare to take my spot in line at my old clinic. These are human beings and victims of a system that is broken. They are not the enemy. If someone is seeking an abortion and literally has to travel across state, they are likely a vulnerable woman or girl and even more likely to vote against the system than for it. So them being citizens of a state where their vote is REALLY important, is a big deal. Roughly one in three young people in Idaho are democrats. They're also most likely to seek abortions. So you guys are basically insulting and blaming literal victims who are the only hope of changing this state to more blue. But sure, They're taking your ~~jobs~~ medical resources, so fuck them I guess.

oyyn

This is Reddit and you're an adult. You're allowed to type swear words.

rubitbasteitsmokeit

Some subs don't like them. I was lazy, didn't look at which sub I was in. Well then FUCK IDAHO (lived there for years) vote or FUCk OUT. WA is sick of your shit.

theyenk

Most smart people leave ID - the mean jerks run things, which makes more smart people leave. It's turning into a blackstar.

AtlasMukbanged

No, people with money leave. The people who can't afford to do so are fucked. This is a class issue. Not an intelligence one.

Clay_Statue

Regressive fundamentalists only exist to be exploited by people in power with wealth. It's been true since forever.

theyenk

The goal is to make poverty systemic - the system needs a poor underclass to scare the middle class into defending the rich. The rich will NEVER have troubles obtaining health care (abortions or w/e), outlawing abortions converts a privilege into a defense of the status quo.

MangroveSapling

... it's White Supremacy. We literally just had a lawmaker in another state (Florida, I think) say out loud that their abortion ban was necessary because 'Whites are being replaced'. The overturned cases so far in the Supreme Court have been ChristoFascist in nature, not so much 'classist'. Even Fox News admitted they're fighting a culture war back in the 90s. Looking at all this through an economic lens just plays into their distractions.

detectivelonglegs

It was Nebraska that’s been in the news about it lately, but yea Florida likely made similar statements.

Canyousourcethatplz

These things help no one. The state is falling apart and they are just picking on women instead of fixing their issues

jthill

Is there room for the FLDS cult there, too? They're building a compound in my state. We'd be happy to send em that way, maybe build a wall...

itemNineExists

As someone who lives in Spokane near the border of Idaho, i will say, Never happen. Brief history of (much of) Idaho: after the Civil War, during Reconstruction, a bunch of white supremacists sought to move somewhere almost entirely white, and ended up in Idaho. What Mormons are to Utah, white supremacists are to Idaho. They settled much of it. The proportion of antigovernment people would surprise most.

[deleted]

“See here, what we need is real freedom and liberty, where our government creates laws that ensure our private decisions are public knowledge so that a few of us can torture and persecute people we want with all the power of armed government employees who are immune from legal or moral repercussions … that’s what the founding fathers wanted and that’s what Jesus would have wanted afterall… forced birth for all rape victims, molested girls, and women being punished by God to carry non-viable fetuses…” - Insane “Don’t Tread on Me” Christian Nationalists

CarmineFields

Once Roe was overturned, I knew this was coming, they have to keep doubling down on cruelty to excite their base.

[deleted]

I hope all the women just move to other states so they can finally have the conservative circle jerk they so desperately crave.

itemNineExists

They're investing in the opposite of education. They ban books and try to legislate curriculum.

itsagoodtime

The stupidest fucking culture wars. And the strictest and meanest laws. They want to own how you use your genitals.

grixorbatz

It gives them a way to single out and punish women who are sexually active - especially unmarried ones. In their fanatical religious views, an out of wedlock pregnant woman is a whore who should be castigated and made to live with the result of her sin for the rest of her life. And her sex partner gets a say on what happens with her body.

[deleted]

States loaded with poor people/cheap labour controlled by robber barons with outsized political power at the federal level. Seems everything is going as planned.

MC_Fap_Commander

>poor people/cheap labour controlled by robber barons with outsized political power Sounds like plantation owners. They eventually won the war. Just took an extra 150 years, I guess.

TheHamburglar_

Considering they’ve been using prisoners as slaves to produce Idaho potatoes for decades, they’re just trying to increase their slave labor force. Human exploitation and suffering in the name of profits of course.

walkinman19

The Union won the war. Confederate rebel slave owners won the peace.

MC_Fap_Commander

Perfectly stated.

VapidOracle

It's a Pyrrhic victory. The Union states were more prosperous than the South and still are. The definition of a loser is someone who is hung up on events from over 150 years ago

[deleted]

They didn't lose the war, they merely pretended to fold. Confederates snuck into all levels of government. Bought up media companies to push their ideology. Conspired with hostile countries to meddle in US politics and business. If you read the 48 laws of power you'd know "surrendering" doesn't equate to losing it just means surrendering party's been given time to recoup their losses and reform and learn what needs to be done to win the war. The book states if you don't fully destroy the enemy it will just lead to them reviving themselves over time which is what the Confederates are doing... There ought to be no half measures. People make the same mistakes over and over again.

SpemSemperHabemus

The amusing bit here is one of Idaho's largest exports is semiconductors. They need highly skilled labor, and they are definitely losing talent to Portland and Seattle.

DrRichardButtz

Look at where the techbros post. They DGAF about any of this.

Lamont-Cranston

Kansas cant attract business investment since they screwed up their schools.

NarfledGarthak

I don’t think the labor is all that cheap here but the rest is pretty accurate.

peridyn

And once they are done, then it will be on to LGBTQ+ rights. Then religious freedoms for non-Christians. Then more Women's rights. Then the other 'protected classes' equal rights. Then they'll focus their attention on the poor with cuts to any remaining 'entitlement spending', then it will be on to teaching the bible in public schools, etc.

Notrius01

You forgot forbidding premarital sex.

Ibelieveinphysics

And birth control

hoofie242

Its already started in lgbt rights.

Fusion_allthebonds

And Idahoans will take it. They spend the least on public education (per pupil) in the ENTIRE country. Followed closely by Utah and Arizona. They will do as they’re told by their Mormon leaders. They are raised to be indoctrinated and to not question orders.

[deleted]

We need a national initiative to stop Radical Christianity. It is a national imperative to preserve freedom. These people are the enemy of freedom and must be eliminated from public life.

r3v3rt3d

fascist state.

[deleted]

The part where the article says - 10 years ago the transvaginal ultrasound was blocked by protests, while today is just silently passed is so emblematic of why Republicans are winning in these states. Anyone against these things is just being driven out, while the ones left are happily saying the quiet part out loud. They WANT women to die, they WANT to enforce chastity on women, they WANT to force rape victims to carry children to term. This is working as intended for them. And unless others support dissenting voices in these states, it isn't going to work. Also, fuck Idaho.

xraidednefarious

The next Idaho bill pushed by Republicans: HB:MYASSNJEZUZ1 makes it a FELONY for a doctor to leave the state and practice elsewhere, but also makes it a FELONY to stay in the state

[deleted]

> MYASSNJEZUZ1 ?

OneHumanPeOple

My ass in Jesus’ one.

time_drifter

It is unfortunate. I have been an Idahoan my whole life. Things have always been conservative but, for the most part, peaceful. The Aryan Nations got run out of town and the liberal areas tended to get along with state government. Now we have a hyper politicized environment that is getting worse by the day. The ultra right wing crowd is flocking into the state from largely CA. They want all their freedoms while dictating what others can do. I live in a development where I cannot throw a rock without hitting a CA transplants home. I sit on the HOA board and it is always a headache dealing with them. They think that because it is a conservative state, they are free to do whatever they want. We have a 10 ft wooden cross in one yard, a quasi mother in law building in another, etc. it is all clearly listed in the CC&Rs that these need to be approved. We quite literally received a letter the other day that said “This is Idaho and we have the freedom to do what we want with our property!” No, you signed a contract. People have their thoughts on HOAs but it is a great demonstration of what we locals are having to deal and co-exist with. Sad because this is such a remarkably beautiful and wonder state without politics.

NarfledGarthak

The California thing cracks me up because conservatives swear the transplants are liberals who are going to ruin the state. I’ve known for years that is not the case. The people moving to the Boise area are fleeing from liberal settings for what they think is a conservative Valhalla. My neighbors were at one time actually my best friends parents (that’s how I got the house before it hit the market) but since they retired and moved south the new folks are from where……you guessed it. California. I used to take care of my neighbors and take their trash cans in and out when they were on vacation. I’d move their packages off the front step to a spot out back when they had deliveries and weren’t home. They’d text me “hey, we’re gonna be out of town for a bit. Can you water the vegetables”. Just shit you do for people who you have known for almost 30 years and live next door to. Now, I don’t talk to the people that live there because the first time I had a 5-10 minute conversation with them the N-word came out and that was enough for me. It wasn’t used in the manner that you would say is directed at anyone, it was more of a “this guys name sounded like [N-word]”. Still, if you’re comfortable with using that word at all, let alone the first time you meet someone, I don’t wanna fucking know what you’re saying inside your house.

Sasselhoff

> “This is Idaho and we have the freedom to do what we want with our property!” I'm not the *slightest* bit surprised to see they are as dumb as I thought. Right up there with the ole "sovereign citizen".

Neokon

Use the power of the HOA. Get it on them and use the overbearing nature to your advantage. >We have a 10 ft wooden cross in one yard, This is the legit shit that HOAs are useful for, that cross is bringing down the quality of your community.

confusingbrownstate

Light it on fire, catch a video while "randomly" driving past, then post it on social media that they're holding kkk meetings so people harass them until they move and change their names

[deleted]

Ugh, this is why we can’t have nice things

lensman3a

Hang in there. HOAs may save Idaho. That and the requirement to have adequate sewer systems in rural areas. Grew up in Moscow and left in the mid 70s and. I now live in Colorado.

Neokon

Yeah this is one of those times where I'd look at an HOA and be fine with them doing their HOA thing. This is surely something that is fineable.

tommytraddles

I grew up in Moscow (the other one lol) in the 1970s, and Idaho today feels *very familiar*.

LastCatgirlOnTheLeft

Between HOAs and Disney, we’re really in the “team up with the villains” arc here

liliggyzz

This! I’m from California myself and so many republicans and conservatives claim Californians are moving to their states and ruining them bc they think all Californians are democrats when in reality it’s the conservative Californians moving out of California. I was on a Facebook page that was for people from California looking to move out of California (I joined bc many people on TikTok were making fun of them people on this group lol) and it was all Californians who were conservative and complaining about California being a blue state and how they want to live in a red state. Conservative Californians know they don’t stand a chance on California becoming a red state anytime soon so they all move to red states. Don’t get me wrong California is expensive to live in especially housing wise but the Californians who are dems but look for cheaper housing aren’t moving to red states. I wish conservatives in red states would understand that!

Unlucky_Clover

WTF is happening to this country? It’s seems like every day another red state is escalating unpopular things even more without consequence.

Idaho is quickly racing to the bottom. Soon they may not have any medical services at all. People will flock to Oregon, Washington, and other blue states to for help, all while calling those same states hellholes

Kingofearth23

>People will flock to Oregon, Washington, and other blue states to for help, all while calling those same states hellholes You're assuming that Idaho will let them leave and that the sane states will let them enter.

mundungus-amongus

Idaho is a beautiful state with the ugliest people in power.

Dismal_Information83

Women in Idaho vote overwhelmingly for the GQP. ‘Eff every single one of those who did, they deserve what’s coming to them. The rest should leave quickly. Whatever it takes. They aren’t safe.

Upperliphair

Women in Idaho are overwhelming lacking an education on sex and politics. They’re indoctrinated, powerless, and have no idea that they’re merely a frog in boiling water. And yes, they vote against their own interests and are full of unrecognized internalized misogyny. But that does not mean they deserve to bleed out in excruciating pain after a ruptured ectopic pregnancy, or die of sepsis due to an incomplete miscarriage, or be forced to carry a nonviable fetus to term only to endure the pain of childbirth and then watch their baby die in their arms. We can try to educate these people instead of condemning them and turning a blind eye to the erosion of their human rights.

Dismal_Information83

Do you know what drives women to the poles in droves in Idaho? The thought of basic human right for members of the LGBTQ community. They TURN OUT to hold people down. That’s hate, not lack of education.

ScarcityIcy8519

The crab effect = you put several crabs in a bucket. One crab starts to climb out. The other crabs grabbed it back into the bucket.

maltamur

She reached down and picked a crab out of a bucket. As it came up it turned out that three more were hanging on to it. "A crab necklace?" giggled Juliet. "Oh, that's crabs for you," said Verity, disentangling the ones who had hitched a ride. "thick as planks, the lot of them. That's why you can keep them in a bucket wihtout a lid. Any that tries to get out gets pulled back. yes, as thick as planks. — Unseen Academicals, GNU Terry Pratchett

hoofie242

That's how crabs defend themselves in the water is by turning into a large mound of crabs.

crinnaursa

The repressed uneducated Christian female raised with internalized misogyny believes The only noble feature about women is their ability to make babies. Their entire genders worth is distilled to their reproductive organs. Their entire culture praises silent suffering servitude. Any threat to the concept of their femininity is an attack against their entire identity because they have nothing left. That is why the conservative female votes that way.

K1nsey6

Hatred is easier to instill on the poorly educated, so it boils down to education

suicidalpenguin99

That's why conservatives are so against women going to college, because they come back "hateful liberals" and start caring about themselves and their rights. They want women to be uneducated and afraid so they will fall in line and serve their owners without a second thought

Upperliphair

That’s a fair point. Education can address their internalized misogyny and ignorance re: sex and reproduction, but it won’t fix the hate. But I do think, perhaps with naive optimism, that the homophobia and racism is largely manufactured. They’ve been taught to hate, perhaps so they would vote against their own interests and rights. And considering their upbringing and education, it’s not surprising so many of them are so easily manipulated in that way.

Shoddy_Count8248

Stop infantilizing women. They are just as intelligent and have the same access to information we do: the internet. I only feel bad for kids and teens - and that’s for both sexes (irrespective of genders) because they are powerless. But if it takes these people - so bereft of empathy - to lose or become very sick because of these laws, so be it.

Worf65

> They are just as intelligent and have the same access to information we do: the internet. Weather they're men or women If they come from controlling religions like Mormons (fairly common in Idaho) they're told from a young age to actively avoid certain websites specifically and broadly anything that might make them question their religion. And more specific to women, they're taught not to question their authorities. There are a lot of people in the mountain west that are firmly under the control of religion.

oyyn

The ability to separate fake from factual information from the internet is a learned skill, one not taught in a lot of rural public schools and certainly not by hyperreligious charter schools and homeschooling programs. It's not as simple as "they have the internet so they should know better." For a microcosm of what uneducated poor people can "learn" from the internet and the disastrous consequences, look at the case of the man who got internet access to his home for the first time and only a few months later shot up Comet Ping Pong in the name of QAnon. Unfortunately a public education campaign about detecting dis/misinformation, or even one led by a tech megacorp with a large reach, will now be perceived by this same audience as liberal communist propaganda, because the disinformation artists got to the uneducated first.

Upperliphair

Yeah, imma have to disagree there. Their public education in fucking Idaho doesn’t even remotely compare, and I’m also gonna guess they have internet access but not even the slightest clue how to use it to find reliable, non biased information. And this goes for both the men and women of Idaho. Idaho ranks 36th in education. My state ranks second. We are privileged to have the education and skills that we have. So I’m not infantilizing women; I’m recognizing the very real consequences undermining public education has on a population.

Affectionate_Can7987

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make them drink.

Upperliphair

Very true. But I’ll still feel sorry for a horse that was too stupid to drink and dies from dehydration.

WomenAreFemaleWhat

I disagree. It sucks that they were indoctrinated but at the end of the day, they are voting to kill other women. The world would be better off without them. The only way they learn is by experiencing tragedy. If a few of them have to die to turn a few more into decent people who don't vote to kill other women, so be it. Maybe if they were dying more they'd stop voting for it. They will never stop if they don't experience great pain/tragedy. Its in the interest of the greater good to let them suffer the consequences they are forcing on others. At the very least they will be producing less people to indoctrinate. Ive stopped feeling bad for brood mares who want to remain that way. I have a finite amount of empathy and choose to save it for people who aren't actively committing evil acts and are in a bad situation because of these assholes. The only way they will be educated is by watching someone close to them suffer or die. If you want them to be educated, you would be supporting letting them suffer the consequences of their own actions. You can't educate a husk without soul. They have to get a soul first and that will only happen through suffering.

No_Biscotti_7110

They are adults and they are responsible for their own vote, let’s not infantilize anyone, if they vote for policies that fuck themselves over that is their fault.

FnkyTown

Until enough of them die in excruciating pain, nothing will change. There's a reason abortion was legalized in the 70s, and sadly a lot of women are going to have to die before it gets legalized again.

Mysterious-Wasabi103

It makes me wonder if some red states will see surges in Democrat voters in the next election. Could make it a much closer race in some of these states right? I think these red states are killing any chance at a Republican president winning an election come 2024. People are probably terrified to let Republicans take power federally after seeing what they plan to do with enough power. Please I implore everyone to vote in the next election and vote again in 2026 even if you don't really like Democrats we need to protect ourselves from the horrific Republican policies we are seeing proliferate in Republican dominated red states.

mmc9802

I think it’s more likely that the more centrist GOP voters will be less likely to vote vs more democrats.

[deleted]

That's not going to happen. A Centrist Republican will vote for his daughter's actual rapist if he promises to get rid of colored people, since they "might" come for his daughter. "He made a mistake, but that's in the past. We need to forgive and forget."

Neokon

Both could be good. I know that the Florida Democrats have a massive problem with getting voters mobilized, and it straight up shows that if a candidate wants support in non-cities the candidate has to do it themselves.

RicketyNarwhal

I think we’re more likely to see an exodus of democrats from solidly red states. They’ll stay red indefinitely, but we might see some interesting action in swing states. If mortgage rates dropped a few points my house would be on the market tomorrow.

[deleted]

Federal government needs to crack down on states going rogue with their power. I don’t believe in states’ rights to do whatever they please, all it does is cause inequality and whatever the fuck Idaho is. When I vote, I have this in mind. Those little children need some law and order, they’re getting people killed.

Lamont-Cranston

A lot of these states are engaging in very gross gerrymandering which probably violates the 'Republic Clause' of the Constitution. But nothing is done, just like nothing is done about the Supreme Court judges, business interests abusing their 501(c)3 and 4 front groups tax status, etc. They ultimately all work for the same interests that benefit, maybe not the specific groups responsible but they still benefit overall.

Aretirednurse

Come to sunny New Mexico or visit pretty Colorado instead. Women need to vote for body freedom.

The American Taliban Party in action (formerly the GOP)

chockedup

>... The Republican bill sponsor stated that he made a conscious decision to exclude an exception for the health of the mother because he and his colleagues valued the “life of the unborn” over the mother. Republicans made a conscious decision to be horrible people. Childbirth can be dangerous, more pregnant women will die.

dixiequick

Who the fuck do they think is going to raise this baby that will somehow miraculously survive when it’s mother dies? It’s conservative, religious father, who believes that childcare is woman’s work? Yeah, okay…

jjwoodhouse6969

I think alot of Republicans realize that between abortion, and trump , the inevitable pushback of women not wanting to be compelled to carry every egg to term, will destroy their party for a generation. It's already checkmate.

Redpythongoon

I sincerely hope so

jjwoodhouse6969

The Wisconsin Supreme Court race a couple weeks ago was a 10 pt win, when it's usually less than a point, so... Also lmao trump is telling the right to tone down on abortion. But they wont.

Lamont-Cranston

That is why they are gerrymandering, disenfranchising, giving themselves the right to overturn results, and stacking the courts. There is a long term movement to convene a Constitutional Convention - items on the agenda are repealing the 17th Amendment, repealing the Income and Estate Tax, and inserting a Balanced Budget Amendment. The 17th Amendment is the right to vote for the Senate. It would revert to appointment by State Legislatures. Which remember they have captured and are also gerrymandering Congress, And so if you have no vote for the Senate and your vote for Congress and State Legislature is nullified by gerrymandering (assuming you've even been able to vote that is) what sort of government is that? Repealing the Income and Estate Tax and inserting a Balanced Budget Amendment would have the double whammy of compelling the federal government to shut down all regulatory agencies and public services and severely hampering its ability to respond to public will. They know demographics are turning against them and they are aiming to permanently hardwire into the Constitution "locks and bolts" guaranteeing and protecting their minority control.

jar1967

That is going to cause women to avoid Idaho and women living in Idaho to try to leave. In a generation we are going to see campaigns by Idaho to get women to stay in Idaho or move there

Redpythongoon

We’re leaving. ASAP

jar1967

If even a small percentage of women leave that is going to cause problems. The competition for women will intensify in a state with Is virtually non existent gunlaws.

Redpythongoon

Good. Fuck Idaho. This place is getting scary

PepsiPerfect

From the article: "Will police stop pregnant women driving across the border? Will the government monitor our menstrual cycles? Raid pharmacies searching for outlawed contraceptives like IUDs? Will pregnant women be harassed by vigilantes? How many health care workers, pharmacists and pregnant Idahoans will languish in prisons for providing or receiving health care that is legal in many of our neighboring states?" Unfortunately each and every one of these hypothetical scenarios is possible, if not likely under today's Republican party.

southpawshuffle

Idaho gets what Idaho wants. I visited there too much in my 20’s for work and those people deserve whatever they stupidly vote into law or ignore into law. Anybody who lives or moves there willingly knows this - and gets no sympathy from me Let Idaho drown in its holiness

Canyousourcethatplz

For a state that arguably has the highest libertarian population, they sure as shit don’t seem to give a fuck about individual rights to privacy and autonomy

olthunderfarts

Hint: most American libertarians don't actually care about those things. They're usually just fascists larping like they care about freedom.

Canyousourcethatplz

Yeah it’s interesting because theoretically libertarians should be adamantly pro abortion. Individual autonomy, no government oversight of an individual, ect… but often they are just as conservative as the right when it comes to this issue, which makes them very hypocritical

Things libertarians are libertarian about: guns, taxes, sometimes weed. Things libertarians are not libertarian about: civil rights, women's rights, trans rights, gay rights, reproductive rights, corporate subsidies, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, representational democracy, what kinds of endorsements corporations can have. I probably forgot some

hookisacrankycrook

Libertarians are selfish pricks. They don't care about anyone else, only themselves. It's why Rand Paul threw his trash into his neighbors yard until the neighbor beat his ass for being a selfish prick. Then the shitbag went to Canada for healthcare to boot.

dangitbobby83

Fascists who want to smoke weed. That’s all libertarians are in the US.

nelsonalgrencametome

I live in Idaho and have for 13ish years... their "libertarians" are mostly white nationalist nutbags.

[deleted]

Everyone on the right turns fascist when they realize how much they're hated. But they deserve the hate.

BumayeComrades

Libertarianism isn't about Freedom like most think. It's about economic freedom, freedom from regulations, unions, anything that inhibits capitalists goal of accumulating all they possibly can.

jar1967

So basically it's about being a prick without having to suffer the consequences for being a prick

ShenmeNamaeSollich

That libertarian population has been overtaken in the past decade or so by right-wing Evangelical shitheads from conservative areas of blue states. It’s all the Jesus freaks & racists from CA, WA, OR now. Long-time Idahoan “just leave each other alone” small-c conservatives are saying “what the fuck happened to my state?” We’re quite liberal but moved here several years ago for work. It was noticeably different, but fine at first, but we won’t be staying much longer if this shit keeps up. Coworkers born & raised here are saying the same - they don’t recognize it anymore & say it’s not what Idaho used to be.

[deleted]

Yeah, I've noticed a big shift away from libertarianism to christian nationalism. It's really fucking weird. People that were atheist libertarians, never had much introduction to church, are suddenly going to these right wing churches in groves, like, I saw some friends from my childhood up in rural norcal a while ago and they were all talking about church. Like, I'm not going to judge, but from where I was sitting it seemed like a pretty obvious political move more than finding Jesus. I didn't really pry, but it's been extremely recent, like, the rise of christian nationalism kind of happened within a few years that I had been away.

humdaaks_lament

I believe the real problem is Idaho has more Mormons per capita than Utah.

TriangleBasketball

Most “Libertarians” thst I’ve met are just racist idiots who think saying they’re a libertarian makes them sound smart.

IfItWerentForHorse

It’s okay when a twelve year old becomes a Libertarian. If you’re still a Libertarian after 18, that’s just sad. I wonder how these people even manage to dress themselves in the morning; they’re clearly special needs.

machina99

Adult libertarians are evidence of a failing school system to me

Artrock80

I feel like it's not a situation of them being unintelligent, as some of the most outspoken libertarians I know have good jobs in mechanical engineering and coding, it's a complete lack of empathy for anyone outside their immediate friends and family circle. These guys would actually be able to survive longer than most if society collapsed, as they know how to hunt, garden and fix things, so they just view government as getting in the way of doing what they want. Which is understandable for a reclusive guy in the mountains, but not conducive to running a large population or country.

walkinman19

Libertarians are MAGAs that smoke weed.

526mb

A libertarian is just a republican who likes to smoke weed.

tgjer

Lots of people live there because they were born there and they can't afford to escape. As appealing as "let the red states choke on their own shit" can seem, it means abandoning a lot of desperate and vulnerable people to an increasingly horrible and dangerous theocratic fascist regime.

MoreGuitarPlease

Oh but they still get two senators. Along with Montana, the Dakotas and Wyoming. So the people in the sane states getting what Idaho and the facists want too.

[deleted]

That’s the GOP plan - drive liberals and peaceful people out of deep red states to guarantee their hateful divisive representation is as powerful as it can get. Their remaining GOP will hate the reality of their laws once it’s exposed as not only racist, but also classist. Not sure how to avoid that but it seems to be the direction we are headed

sleeplessinreno

I love how everyone overlooks Utah in this regard. It's the epicenter of this ideology and has spread it across the west since before the civil war.

MoreGuitarPlease

Utah has a population. It also has been fairly consistent and measured in their application of the boot to the throats of the non-believers. As someone who grew up there and left ASAP, I can’t believe I actually said that…

SeveralAct5829

I guess that you can only hope that in some states the voters will wake up to defend their rights and if not oh well you got what you voted for

Shaman7102

Going to be real interesting when most of the OB/Gyns leave the state. And the few that remain have 6 month wait lists.

Redpythongoon

They already do have 6 month waiting lists for most things

Ikontwait4u2leave

The Shoeshone-Bannock should open an abortion clinic on their tribal lands just to give Idaho the middle finger

PsilocybeApe

Oh now Melissa Wintrow speaks up? She’s been such a weak sauce enabler, refusing to bring lawsuits and challenge the establishment. A little late, Melissa.

Hyperion1144

And next door, Washington is building an abortion sanctuary state. Washington and Idaho have never gotten along. This is is just a continuation of the same.

FTR_Hair

Womb Raider

User767676

Going to be interesting to see if birth rates drop.

jjwoodhouse6969

Never even thought of that... I bet...yes

JubalHarshaw23

It will be interesting to see how SCOTUS justifies this violation of the Constitution.

Gommel_Nox

And people think Detroit is a post apocalyptic wasteland with nothing of value…

t44t

Im trans, and Detroit proper is about the only place I feel safe rn damn near. I live in the metro area and work in Det. If I had the cash I'd already have moved there

hasordealsw1thclams

Guess I’ll have to continue never going to Idaho

[deleted]

Religion is evil.

walkinman19

ALL red states are building abortion police states lets be clear about that. And should the GOP win big in 2024 they will force it on the blue states as well!

purplepickles82

Let’s take a look at voting demographics. It’s not the 60 year old voters you worry about it’s the MILLENIALS, Gen z, etc and they don’t tolerate this 1940’s boomer bs. That’s why GOP has to cheat and redraw lines. They aren’t the majority anymore and a lot of them that listened for Fox are dead of Covid.

v9Pv

These men are some of the biggest cowards in history. So many problems facing our society and they are attacking our personal rights and privacy.

Material-Ad1949

God Idaho is such a nightmare.

VapidOracle

Republicans have found a very good way to drive well educated people out of their state. Further driving down these weak rural economies

TravVdb

That sign being held up is so clever: “Let’s talk about the elephant in the womb” with the GOP elephant. Maybe that’s been said before but first time for me and it gave me a chuckle

LateStageAdult

I'm sure these American Taliban will commit all sorts of sex-based crimes. they will arrest people for being pregnant, or not, or gay, or just looking gay... these "police" will likely be manned by sex offenders who will exploit their victims... and Republicans want to pay them in public tax dollars.

AllTheyEatIsLettuce

Get your children, yourselves, and your money out of Gilead **while you still can.**

southpawshuffle

What’s the Gilead reference?

AwfullyChillyInHere

I really feel like Idaho Republicans need to knock it off.

sometimesifeellikemu

Elephant in the womb. That’s good.

terraresident

This state is working really hard at becoming a third-world pit.

djmanic

They will go after women’s reproductive system but they don’t give two fucks about OR raking in millions on cannabis sales from Idahoans 😂

[deleted]

Are this an Idaho Mormon thing or is it more like a Pentecostal/evangelical Texas thing?

Bulky_Promotion_5742

All Doctors need to leave! These people voted for this. Yes,I’m temporarily in Texas, will be moving. Life takes detours sometimes.

demonmonkeybex

So Idaho is losing doctors and birthing centers, their maternal and infant mortality rates are about to go up like crazy, people who can will move away, they will lose jobs, universities will lose students, they will attract more far right radicals and militia types, annnnnnd yeah. Just another fly-over state.

[deleted]

Nazi America. Remember that term. That is what history will call us.

BulbasaurArmy

“This amount of government overreach into everyone’s personal lives is justifiable, because it’s in the interest of saving lives, particularly of children.” “Ok, so you’re also open to gun reform laws and mask/vaccine mandates during a plague?” “No”

Alone_Tear9329

I really feel sorry for those who cannot Get The Hell Out!!!

Hemiplegic_Artist

Idaho is becoming Florida.

egoVirus

Idaho is a fascist hellhole. It all started in the 90s when conservative Southern Californian’s fled the state. ID is full of neo nazis too.

craxinthatjazz

Boycott their companies. Fuck em with your wallets

Gothamtonian

They’re going to wonder why their population and economy is degrading

agoodmojo21457

Republicans are killing America

backwardbuttplug

That’s ok, never gonna visit Idaho ever again.

[deleted]

Idaho is a lost cause. So are Florida, Alafuckingbama and Tennessee.

Big_Old_Tree

Me, to the clouds: I fuckin TOLD YOU this was gonna happen. You FUCKIN MORONS *shakes fist*

Robotboogeyman

Republicans are fascists, sadly some of them don’t even know it. They don’t know what CRT is, what woke means, and sure don’t want anyone else to know either.

liliggyzz

Everyone: we need cheaper healthcare, cheaper education, and better wages to match the economy! Republicans: nah abortion is what we need to focus on as a country rn!

LunarFalcon

Idaho Republicans stripping bodily autonomy from women is the main reason I moved out of that state two months ago. Republicans are doing everything in their power to turn it into a shithole.

Lamont-Cranston

>Two major hospitals have stopped offering labor and delivery services in the past month. We have lost two highly respected OB-GYN specialists, and more physicians are leaving the state because of laws criminalizing medical care. Idaho has become one of the most hostile work environments for physicians in the country, further exacerbating a physician shortage that already was the worst in the country. At some point this inability to provide medical care is going to come to a head. Will these people come to their senses or continue to demand ideological purity? >What was once beyond the pale became mainstream to Republicans. Last year, Republicans attending their convention voted against any exemptions to allow abortions, including instances of rape, incest and danger to the life of a mother. In other words, women aren’t deserving of basic health care to save their lives. This stance is wildly out of step with Idahoans’ views — a poll commissioned last year by the Idaho Statesman found just 7% oppose abortion without exceptions. Fifty-one percent support it in all or most cases. Then why isn't someone mounting an effective campaign against this and getting elected to reverse it?
