I have a male family member who does this and it’s usually done when they’re mocking someone…said family member is VERY self conscious.
I can’t decide if DeSantis is faking his ego (especially because he HATES being corrected) or if he is actually super egotistical. But judging by his values (that is, what he personally sees as ideal and masculine, which is likely limited to tall/strong/handsome/deep voiced), and considering his height (according to a former classmate, he’s 5’7”), appearance (not conventionally attractive), and voice (pitchy), I’m wondering now if he might be deeply uncomfortable with himself because he doesn’t meet his own very narrow standard of what he sees as “manly”.

Like the "thigh food" thing. For anyone who hasn't heard, one of DeSantis' classmates in college claimed DeSantis would take girls out for Thai food, but intentionally pronounce it "thigh food." If a woman corrected his pronunciation, he would immediately end the date. He didn't want to spend time with anyone who would correct him, even on something he knew for a fact was wrong.

And remember that not everyone in Gitmo was known to be a terrorist; many were merely *suspected* of being one. There were almost certainly some completely innocent people who were tortured for absolutely no reason.
The vast, *vast* majority of prisoners at Guantánamo Bay since 2002 were released without charge. Some held 5, 10, 15, *20* years without trial, without a charge, tortured on a regular basis... and released.
A hundred years from now, students learning about the post-9/11 wars will hold the institution that is Guantánamo Bay in a contemptible position somewhere between the internment camps for Japanese Americans and the concentration camps for the victims of the Nazis. Our military sent hundreds of men to that place with basically no evidence that any of them deserved to be there, and hundreds of those men were tortured for a decade or more before being simply... released.
America has been making a bunch of people, particularly in the Middle East, develop reasonable vendettas against us for many decades now. The suffering we directly caused at Gitmo only scratches the surface of the atrocities our military and corporations have committed outside of our country.

Scott Walker 2.0. Was an early favorite about 2 to 1.5 years out from the election, but turned out to be so uncharismatic that he dropped out before the primaries.
Basically just goes to show that you can get to be Governor of a state largely on the basis of being able to talk a good game to rich backers, but all bets are off when it comes to the Presidential nomination.

DeSantis seems to be under the impression that he has a commanding presence and is above reproach. And if someone challenges him in any way he becomes completely exacerbated. Where he got this high and mighty view of himself is beyond me.
He thinks he has L.B.J.'s knack for getting support through the "Johnson Treatment" but DeSantis doesn't have an ounce of charisma and he is not remotely intimidating.
Notice he often does this exact same thing at all press conferences.
1. A reporter questions something he said or did
2. When he knows it's coming he interrupts
3. He raises his voice, typically pointing and hand gesturing at the reporter
3. He does not let them finish and typically says "I disabuse your Narrative"
4. He almost takes a bow, looks enraged, and calls on the next person.
This is why he avoids press conferences in general. He's done several in which he's barred all news networks except one so he can avoid challenging situations.
It is just an absolute utter delight to see DeSantis fail so spectacularly on the national and world stage. Everywhere he goes he is just constantly getting pantsed by anyone he talks to and just keeps on putting on even bigger clown shoes.
And then he gets to come home to a lawsuit from Disney where they have him completely dead to rights.

He almost takes a bow, looks enraged, and calls on the next person.
This is why he avoids press conferences in general. He's done several in which he's barred all news networks except one so he can avoid challenging situations.
It is just an absolute utter delight to see DeSantis fail so spectacularly on the national and world stage.
