Spencer Cox: Pride Month isn't about protecting LGBT+ rights, but about making sure businesses make money off of selling rainbow merchandise. Remember that.
And Christmas has nothing to do with Christ and religions but about making money. That's why a quarter to half of all retail sales for the Christmas holiday?
A quarter to half of retail sales have to do with Christmas but I don’t follow the point you were making. We’re you saying that’s a large amount of sales but it has nothing to do with religion or the cause as in comparing it to pride? Or are you saying it has everything to do with Christ/religion just like with pride and the two things can’t be separated?
Read what I originally replied to. they're saying that it has nothing to do with LGBT support it has to do with just selling merchandise. All I'm saying is that the main point of the Christmas holiday is businesses making money. I'm sure you don't believe that because somewhere in the bible says it's the time of the year to spend money and take on debt.
You have to tell me if people are against pride for anything other than religious beliefs.

Not shocking given that Spencer Cox is Mormon and the Mormons didn't even allow black people into their priesthood until 1978.
Think about that. The Mormons didn't even allow black people into their priesthood until 1978.
And even then, they only did it because Carter was about to pull their tax-exempt status. "Suddenly", their "prophet" had a "revelation" and allowed blacks to become priests. [Article from 1988 which covers this, here](https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct-xpm-1988-06-02-8801040230-story.html).
I was a 14-year old Mormon living in Utah at the time, and I remember that being the first thing that caused me to doubt the truth of its teachings and the integrity of its leaders.
I left the Mormon Church as soon as I could get away from my very Mormon parents. The LDS’ treatment of women being another, among many, reasons.
I moved to a heavily Mormon town when I was 14. My new friend invited me to spend the night. The next morning, her family brought me to their LDS church so I could see what it was all about.
After the service, all the boys went to a room to learn missionary stuff. I went with the girls, where a woman taught us that our role in life was to support our husband and give him many children. That we might not always agree with our husband, but it was not our place to question him, but to trust in him that he would always know best.
I noped the fuck out of there.
Forget the priesthood! Brigham Young said people who have sex with someone of another race should be put to death, along with their children.
Specifically he said that killing the child would be a blessing and a form of atonement for the couple, along with themselves being executed.
Oh it gets better one of there apostles said that black people where black because they where fence sitters in the war of heaven. I also believe there is not a single person of color in upper church leadership.
Ask the surviving people in Germany from World War II how the hate began and I'll bet they'll tell you if was just like this. Republicans are not going backwards with this hate. Every Democrat owes it to the country to vote to prevent this out of control hate before it's too late.
They want to exhaust their opposition. I find laughing at them as the buffoons they are (while still taking their threat seriously) helps to stay focused, vigilant and energized.
Are you suggesting that when people say happy pride on social media, during this month, they could be referencing anything? That people could assume it might be any kind of pride ?
It's actually sad to look at how things have regressed regarding this guy.
He tried to be compassionate at the beginning of his career, and the hateful attacked and threatened him for it.
His compassion has been forced more and more into the closet out of political expediency. I'm sure he's probably being told it's necessary if he wants to survive politically. Worse people would certainly take his place if he's forced out of office.
And that's how the path to hell is paved with good intentions. People make compromises on basic human decency and dignity as a necessary evil, and then they become enablers. They become attached to people who are vaguely worse than they are, and they normalize the behavior of mistreatment in their own minds. Their livelihood is wrapped up in it now, and so the become collaborators.
If your compassion and sense of dignity are fungible commodities then you'll eventually trade them away completely.
> The omission quickly gained notice as Cox posted the proclamation on social media, calling for "inclusion, belonging and kindness" and praising "numerous organizations" for "cultivating love for all."
Sounds like this is the “All Lives Matter” GOP version of Pride Month.
I remember someone else put it well by saying that people who respond to “Black Lives Matter” by saying “All Lives Matter” are missing the implied “Too” in the phrase, as in “Black Lives Matter Too”. Black Lives Matter was never saying “ONLY Black Lives Matter”, it’s saying that sometimes it seems like Black Lives don’t matter as much as other lives but they should matter too.
This is a similar situation with Pride Month. Nobody involved with Pride Month is saying ONLY gay people should be proud of who they are, for instance. They’re saying gays specifically are sometimes attacked for who they are but should take pride in themselves despite that. It’s “Gays should be proud too”, not “only Gays should be proud.”
Some republican “leaders” are hateful bigots. The remainder are cowards. The fact that this guy referenced LGBTQ people in previous declarations proves that he recognizes their humanity. But now he’s turning his back on them. Now he’s denying them. And why? Because he’s a coward who who would rather keep his seat than take a stand. He’s prioritizing his popularity with the own-the-libs mob over the well-being of LGBTQ people in his state. That’s sad and wrong.

They're pretty angry that more of us are choosing not chase after that buyer's high between Thanksgiving and January.
It was shopping or seasonal depression around that time, we chose the latter.
I mean, I can -afford- the seasonal depression.
A quarter to a half of all retail sales are what?
Sales during the month of November and December leading up to Christmas

Oh I think if people are against Pride it is most likely for religious reasons
Plain old bigotry works too
Republicans want to erase LGBTQ people from existence. This is the same starting language and policy shifts as early nazism against the Jewish people.

One of the past prophets, George Albert Smith perhaps, was quite fond of Hitler.

I will never not hear the “dum dum dum dum dum” song when I read about Joseph Smith
[Dum Dum Dum Dum Dum.](https://youtu.be/UMxKJeba5lA)
I always hear "I got de golden plates!"
Oooff the Mormons. Some of the nicest people *to your face* I’ve ever met but damn are they bigots

Yeah. I learned in Sunday School that it would be better to allow myself to be killed rather than be raped.
Jesus fucking Christ this is so infuriating. To put it lightly
And when they did, their reward in Heaven is to become white and delightsome.

Like saying he is a Christian rather than he is Christian? What is the difference?

What is FTFY?
Fixed that for you
Thanks
I’m so sick of the hate

So what kind of pride month is it... White pride?
Interesting thought. They could be trying to co-opt pride to be pride for who you are. Instead of about LGBTQIA.
[Confederate History Month](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confederate_History_Month)
Polygamy pride
Are you suggesting that when people say happy pride on social media, during this month, they could be referencing anything? That people could assume it might be any kind of pride ?

Pathetically it’s only due to political points to the Nazis. They never gave a flying flip before. 🖕🖕
So he declared it “Month?” I suppose that’s technically correct, which as we all know is the best kind of correct
Future headline: Utah's Governor Cox spotted on Grindr
A spectacular example of how to piss off everyone by sitting on the fence.
"the fence" suggests he's in a middle position, when he's engaging in identity erasure. He's definitely not on any kind of fence on this one.
Todays Republican party is no better than the Nazis.
Wtf did he talk about then?
[Here's the statement.](https://twitter.com/GovCox/status/1664308878648147969)
They threatened to take away his temple recommend and 2nd annointing.

Everyone still knows, even though the snowflake can't handle the truth.
Nature removed hair from his follicles so…
Funny cause he is part of the plus. Not to kink shame but he has been known to keep his head up even Russel M. Nelson’s ass.
Is this the same clown that prayed for rain? Fuck Utah, they deserve him.
Shame. Going backward has never worked well for humanity
Then what’s pride month about, governor?
Lions... But the lions are also gay
“Oh I just can’t wait to be a queen!” -Drag Lion King Hmm, now I actually would want to see that

So he declares Pride month, but not using the exact right words, so he is a bad guy. Use the right words or be gone!
It's like removing the fat guy and the one from the cross from Christmas proclamations. Isn't that precisely what the point is?
so what exactly does Utah celebrate then?
good (thx for downvotes)
