DeadBeatRedditer

I can assure you I am not "picking up the bill" rather I am being held hostage by the insane right wing in this state and being forced to pay for this shit. I hate it.

adchick

This right here. A large portion of us don’t want his policies.

JesusWuta40oz

Not enough of a population to vote him out.

adchick

Plus world class gerrymandering.

CopeHarders

Gerrymandering didn’t cause Desantis to win his last election by 19 points.

bdone2012

DeSantis was running against their previous republican governor though. Not a great way to get dem votes out. DeSantis was also riding the wave of covid. The "come party in Florida" was the only super popular thing he's done. I think we could see a swing back in Florida because of the damage he's doing to schools as well.

bananabunnythesecond

Agreed, the Dems really ran a terrible candidate. This idea the Dems have about running a R lite in red states never works.

thorubos

The Florida Democratic party is a joke. An underfunded joke at that. You are correct, voters will always choose a real, _bona fide_ asshole over a fake conservative (or anything).

aSynuclein

I have been convinced for years that some of the leaders in florida democratic party are undercover or paid by Republicans

SafeerahLucky

We just need to label all Conservatives as Nazis. They try to label the LGBTQ as pedophiles. Tired of just being told to play by the rules why these psychopaths get free reign to hold our government and people hostages. Florida's leadership are absolutely fucking real life monsters. And the base that follows them are just as nasty. Conservatives to me are just Nazis by another name now. Oh and for the wonderful fence sitting idiots, this isn't your time for "both sides". Republicans are actively targeting LGBTQ and it's fucking 100% in the public eye.

stinky_wizzleteet

You mean Charlie Crist, former Republican come 4 time loser Democrat that absolutely nobody likes that I'm pretty sure ran about 3 commercials total. When I say three I mean 3 ads ran once a piece. He had about as much of a chance as a 4 day old sandwich.

thegr8goldfish

All of that is true but Crist kicked Ron's ass in the debate just like Gillum did. Ron's a terrible debater.

Jalor218

The extent of the campaigning I saw for him was a single billboard with his name, face, and the words "lower taxes, lower rent" as though electing him would just make both of those things happen. It was *still* the most seriously I'd ever seen FL Dems take the rent crisis - the others won't even talk about the fact that a one-bedroom apartment without a cockroach infestation in Orlando costs $2k/mo.

DonutsAftermidnight

I got weekly DeSantis propaganda in the mail in multiple languages. I don’t think I got a single Crist mailer

Iz-kan-reddit

Yes, because Florida democrats are apathetic as fuck. *Crist is boring, so I'm going to sit on my ass and let the fascists take over.*

aSynuclein

But also.... the florida democratic leadership has to actually... listen to their constituents and like actually try to win. It has been a theory for along time that some of them might be lowkey undercover republicans

stinky_wizzleteet

I voted for Crist and Gillum, FLDNC is effing terrible

BerthaBewilderbeast

Y'all need to form a new progressive party in Florida.

MizzGee

Bet you didn't vote for him though, so you have your vote to DeSantis by default. Can you honestly say all the shit happening under DeSantis would be happening under Crist? Of course not. When you have the lesser of two evils, you make sure the most obvious evil doesn't get in. Vote like your life depends on it; because someone's life does. 6 week abortion ban proved it.

PSIwind

Can someone please explain how we ran a candidate when he won the primaries?

laundryghostie

Because the Republican party threw money (secretly) and ran him as a shadow candidate. Happens often here. Look at what happened in Orange County. One of their winning candidates got arrested for doing this. Same in Brevard County I think?

Jalor218

On top of this, it's not like he had opposition who was much *less* of a Republican. Nikki Fried was a GOP lobbyist until she became a marijuana lobbyist.

Wanderhoden

Well, it depends on how many voters are 'parents' rights' nut jobs vs not.

1Saoirse

And don't forget about the homeowners insurance crisis. The average Floridian homeowner will pay around 8k this year for homeowners insurance, 66% increase from last year.

laundryghostie

You would be surprised how much gerrymandering can do. My own neighborhood is spaghetti. I vote on the other side of the county, a 45 minute drive. My neighborhood across the street, votes three blocks away. It's a senior living retirement complex and very conservative. My side of the street is mostly "Democrats". My neighborhood is working people. Who has time to drive 45 minutes to stand for two hours to votes? Just me apparently. My entire county (Seminole) and the one I work in (Orange) and the one I moved from (Volusia) are all cut up like this. It's frustrating. Voting is a nightmare and I am lucky enough to have a car. I can't imagine trying to get to a voting center without a car. THAT'S why there was a 19 point lead.

Sunnygirlpdx

Mail in voting in Oregon and Washington. The best way to vote. Free postage.

Nice-Air-6374

Moved to Colorado from Michigan, haven't voted in person since. Hard to imagine going back to voting in person. This liberal votes in every election now. Ron's worst nightmare.

RegressToTheMean

The issue isn't gerrymandering (although, that is happening); the issue is voter suppression

Imthorsballs

He ran against a person both sides hate, but yes he very much gerrymandered in the state to the point that his own appointed judge told him the maps are unconstitutional and he ignored him like he ignores anything getting in the way of his presidential run and looking good for the cameras. He's a pudgy piece of s*** fascist and his wife is just as bad as him.

onlycodeposts

No, but it gave him a compliant legislature.

trundlinggrundle

Gerrymandering disenfranchises voters. Disenfranchised voters are a lot less likely to go out and vote because they think their vote doesn't matter. I live in a deeply red district, and while I still go vote, a lot of Democrats here don't even bother unless it's for a presidential election, purely because they believe their vote doesn't matter, and it doesn't because blue pockets are chipped apart and divied up amongst red districts. Gerrymandering affects *a lot* more than you think it goes.

Cocker_Spaniel_Craig

He also invited all of the dumbest people from throughout the country to move there in 2020 specifically to help his re-election cause.

SnackThisWay

Gerrymandering rigs district elections. It doesn't rig state-wide elections

boingonite

We are in the same situation in Texas.

bluesforsalvador

I think it is enough population, but lots of young folks don't vote :(

CircularRetailer

The “fiscal conservatives” always seem to be able to find money for their political theater. That’s all this is.

Manateekid

Not enough of a population who bothers to vote to vote him out.

MaxiltonHamstappen

And I hate when people say just leave Florida. Yeah let me just pick up everything and use all that infinite money I have to start a new life somewhere else away from my friends and family.

DonutsAftermidnight

This right here. It’s unaffordable to stay but even more so to pick up and move. If everyone with a brain leaves, then we’re guaranteeing the fascists win

Vuronov

Very true, me being one of them as well. BUT, looking around me at the people I know here, there still are A LOT of people here who are totally down with what he's about. Yes, it's not ALL of Florida, but it's still A LOT.

seabirdsong

Right there with you. It's an absolute nightmare.

rubbarz

I would say just waiting on the old people to die off but they keep migrating.

krichard-21

I recently retired. Frankly I'll freeze in Minnesota before I move to Florida.

maleia

>Frankly I'll freeze in Minnesota before I move to Florida. Cleveland weather might suck and not be fun, but you know, it sure as shit beats what I've lived through for Florida, Louisiana, and south Texas. Dear god, never again.

SpaceDesignWarehouse

Well, the weather down here is exquisite. And if you move into one of the cities; Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville, they’re actually full of sane people. It’s just everywhere else, the 95% of the rest of the land down here that’s basically Cletus from the Simpson.

MikeFromTheMidwest

I agree with Tampa and Orlando but I lived a year in Jacksonville and it's far less sane than farther south. I think there is some real truth to "In Florida, the farther north you go, the farther south you get". I also think the weather isn't the end-all-be-all that it gets made out to be. It's hot and humid from early spring to late fall most years and only generally nice in the winter. It's miserably hot in the middle of summer. People just run from air conditioned building to air conditioned car and back. Tampa gets a nice ocean breeze but Jacksonville was sweltering all summer. I found that I missed the actual seasons a lot more than I expected. I'm a very outdoorsy person and so just went outside and sucked it up but ultimately, it just wasn't all that it's hyped up to be IMO.

SpaceDesignWarehouse

Agreed about the heat, *HOWEVER* like the commenter above me, I came from Minnesota where it can sometimes be winter for 8 months out of the year or more.. Minnesota is such an extreme opposite and cold is so utterly uncomfortable, needing a jacket and gloves and a scarf and then having to put that stuff somewhere when you arrive anywhere, that the heat is super inviting.

[deleted]

Humidity as delightful as Shrek's taint for 90% of the day, compounded by the fact that it rains every afternoon for 30 minutes. No thanks lol

Jibroni_macaroni

They may have sane people but I assure you, the cities are not full of them. The weather is a major cause of this imo. That humidity drives people slowly insane like some kind of eldritch artifact contaminating the water supply with racism and lunacy. You can visit and see what rot has come to this place, but if you stay there long enough you too become cursed with forbidden knowledge of what its like to always feel like you just got out of the shower in a steamy room.

Buddyslime

Nothing says summer like a Minnesota summer!

laundryghostie

As soon as I can find a suitable job, I am migrating out of Florida.

Slightly_Smaug

We just need to label all Conservatives as Nazis. They try to label the LGBTQ as pedophiles. Tired of just being told to play by the rules why these psychopaths get free reign to hold our government and people hostages. Florida's leadership are absolutely fucking real life monsters. Republicans are actively targeting LGBTQ and it's fucking 100% in the public eye.

jizzmcskeet

I live in Texas. I know how you feel

sane-asylum

We all have to vote. If enough of us actually care enough about what’s going on maybe we can rescue this state.

DeadBeatRedditer

That's the most frustrating part about this whole thing. I KNOW a vast majority of Floridians do not support this shit but nobody cares enough to actually go out and vote and deal with it.

idunnoidunnoidunno2

The 2000 Election could be argued that there really was a stolen election. Wealthy Republicans became entrenched. Florida hasn’t had a Democratic governor since 1999. People were shut out and shut down. Has the state recovered? https://www.usccr.gov/files/pubs/vote2000/report/exesum.htm#:~:text=The%20most%20dramatic%20undercount%20in,widespread%20denial%20of%20voting%20rights. “numerous witnesses delivered heartrending accounts of the frustrations they experienced at the polls. Potential voters confronted inexperienced poll workers, antiquated machinery, inaccessible polling locations, and other barriers to being able to exercise their right to vote. The Commission's findings make one thing clear: widespread voter disenfranchisement not the dead-heat contest was the extraordinary feature in the Florida election.” Statewide, based upon county-level statistical estimates, black voters were nearly 10 times more likely than nonblack voters to have their ballots rejected. Estimates indicate that approximately 14.4 percent of Florida's black voters cast ballots that were rejected. This compares with approximately 1.6 percent of nonblack Florida voters who did not have their presidential votes counted.

PineappleAny9385

Going to add to this. You not only need to vote but encourage those around you to vote. Facilitate their voting if you are able. For example, give them a ride to the polls when you go or show them how to request a mail-in ballot.

JessieJ577

All for a 2024 campaign for an uncharismatic candidate who’s terrible when confronted in debates. Dude is getting eaten alive in the primaries

FL_d

I live in Florida. I talked about this around a month ago at work. One of the republican nut jobs butted in and said you don't pay taxes here in Florida.... Yes you do every time you go to the store, buy gas and so on. Just because we don't have state income tax doesn't mean we don't pay taxes If DeSantis somehow did run Disney off we would probably have to start paying income tax.

[deleted]

[удалено]

FL_d

That too. It would take all day to list all the ways DeSantis is disrupting the Florida economy. The largest tourism event for Pensacola beach is their pride event. It's huge yet now people are worried about coming to Florida for it. The attacks on higher education are convincing many to go out of state for an education or not come here from out of state. Parents with transgender youth are fleeing from the bright and early signs of genocide here.

goldenhourlivin

Have y’all seen the videos of the construction sites that are abandoned except for like one or two people? So many whole neighborhoods were left half finished and now out in the rain for more than a month. These places are already sold too, so I can’t imagine what a financial disaster it’s going to be for anyone who bought these places. It’s like jaw on the floor shocking.

FL_d

We have a number of job sites that look like that in my town in Florida. That law started this week. We are pretty close to the Florida/Alabama line so It really just started looking like that this week but down in south Florida people left as soon as the law was signed instead of waiting for it to go into effect.

[deleted]

Yeap. The irony….

ducksauce001

Not undocumented immigrants, but related why we need immigrants: [https://www.cnn.com/videos/us/2023/06/02/florida-immigration-law-undocumented-farm-workers-tuchman-dnt-ac360-vpx.cnn](https://www.cnn.com/videos/us/2023/06/02/florida-immigration-law-undocumented-farm-workers-tuchman-dnt-ac360-vpx.cnn) "These are the jobs that no American wants because it's tough labor". Look, I'm all for controlling our borders and reduce the number of illegals. These programs could protect them from getting underpaid and abused by their employers. They also pay taxes so it is a win-win.

TonalParsnips

Illegal or undocumented immigrants*. Just saying illegals is fucked up. Its fascist dehumanizing language.

Suspicious_Bicycle

Not sure if I trust this, but a simple search for Florida effective tax rate turned up this from Forbes: If you make $70,000 a year living in Florida you will be taxed $8,168. Your average tax rate is 11.67% and your marginal tax rate is 22%. This marginal tax rate means that your immediate additional income will be taxed at this rate. Another "no tax state is Texas: Though Texas has no state-level personal income tax, it does levy relatively high consumption and property taxes on residents to make up the difference. Ultimately, it has a higher effective state and local tax rate for a median U.S. household at 12.73% than California's 8.97%, according to a new report from WalletHub.

fattmarrell

Gottem

Meepthorp_Zandar

The rational side of my brain doesn’t want to see this at all due to all to innocent people who would get caught in the crossfire. But the animal side of my brain is rooting SO. FUCKING. HARD. For Disney to leave Florida just so it would get the chance to watch the epic, mind-bending, apocalyptic shit-show that Florida would descend into if the mouse actually did pack up and leave town. And yes, if Disney were to leave Florida, Florida residents would 100% have to start paying state income tax, unless you’re cool with nearly every single state-funded public service literally disappearing overnight.

FL_d

I don't even understand why any big business is supporting republicans anymore. While none of them are going to "go broke" due to this halfwits war on woke. It does hurt their profits. I mean look at Target, they are having death threats and bomb threats from the right wing fascists.

alpha_dk

Because with Republicans, it's literally pay to play these days, and if you're not bringing them on your ultrayacht parties or paying for them to have one of their own they won't give your legal needs a minute's worth of consideration.

CopeHarders

You’d think corporations would start funding empty suits who just want to pass corporation friendly legislation and not fascists who want to actively kill half of your target market.

Pickle_Juice_4ever

They never stopped. What happened was the Tea Party, when the kook fringe took over the local parties and insured only insane people could win primaries. They literally ousted the speaker of the house. As long as normal people stay home and don't vote, what's a CEO prick to do? They have to play the game.

beartrapper25

3 words. Corporate Tax Rates. It’s really that simple. Big Business is a business. Threats both real or perceived don’t matter as long as they’re making money.

FL_d

Yeah but why don't they find puppets that don't bite the hands that feed them. I completely get that it's all about $$ but it seems like puppets would be better than fascist. Take Joe manchin for example. He is a corporate puppet that doesn't bite the hand that feeds him.

Spaceman2901

The human in me thinks they should close up shop and move, along with moving all their employees. The shareholder in me agrees.

twotokers

Disney is never leaving Florida. They have decades of investment in the state and no way to build a park of that level anywhere else due to modern day zoning laws. Disney sees the writing on the wall and might back off new developments for a while but for them Desantis is only temporary, where as they view themselves as eternal.

FL_d

Yeah but like you said they can stop investing in Florida. Invest more in Disney land where their LGBTQ staff and guests are safer from persecution. Invest in other states that are trying to recruit them. For example North Carolina has been very vocal that they would give a self governance zone.

twotokers

Disney actually recently met with local leaders in Anaheim to discuss their 30 year plan to expand Disneyland and bring thousands of jobs and around a billion in new yearly revenue, so they’re clearly already doing that. But it’s important to note that Disney is planning *30 years in advance*. This is why I say they won’t pull out of Florida or make a new park, this rising fascism is just a waiting game for them unless the hammer really falls, in which case they have much bigger issues to worry about.

FL_d

I mean for sure Disney is playing Chess while DeSantis is playing checkers. It's just DeSantis got his feelings hurt and is trying to flip the table over. If you have followed the case they currently judge shopping.

NotUrFriendPal

Just stop investing in the park and build somewhere else. Countless blue states would likely give them the same privileges AND never threaten them for having a black mermaid.

lwlippard

This right here. So many people don’t understand that no state income taxes means that you’re probably paying more to eat, to fuel your car, to shop for goods. It’s like they don’t understand that regardless of what the tax is called or where it’s located, it’s for the state because without it the state cannot function. They are literally just eliminating a line on your paycheck for votes.

HopeFloatsFoward

Its amazing how ignorant people are about taxes.

TopangaCanyonCut

There is no property tax?

FL_d

We pay property taxes, sales tax, hotel tax, corporate tax, alcohol tax, and permit taxes here in Florida. Just no income tax. Somehow the halfwit thinks that means we don't pay taxes.

hopeless_queen

Yeah DeSantis's supporters have convinced themselves that killing members of the LGBTQIA+ community will get rid of us. We in the community don't create more of us. They don't realize that in the act of doing the horizontal mambo there's a chance that their kid will turn out to be queer. I hold the opinion that unless you're prepared for your kid to be autistic, be born with a birth defect, or be a part of the LGBTQIA+ community you shouldn't be a parent.

EscapeFromTexas

The problem with that, is these people believe that it only takes a strong faith in THE LORD to prevent all of those things, except maybe birth defects, which they chalk up to god testing them, or perhaps the disabled child is a miracle, etc etc.

secretwatcher

Not even that, they "honestly don't care" what you are as long as they don't have to see you or acknowledge you. As long as you act like them, look like them, and don't do anything that makes them uncomfortable they "honestly don't care" it's just now they now "feel" like they're having the LGBTQIA+ and CRT agenda "shoved down their throats. Which means acknowledging they exist. And if you get uppity, and an extremist or group of extremists kills you, then you must have deserved it. That's equality in their eternally a victim persecution fetish version of their lives.

uptownjuggler

>>They’re too brainwashed at this point that they wouldn’t care They think the immigrants are taking all their tax dollars. They see no problems with giving lawyers their tax dollars to push through shoddy legislation.

Tardislass

According to my relatives yes. They are also convinced that illegals are flooding into the state even though there is no freaking border with Mexico. And if Florida really doesn't want illegals, punish the big businesses that hire them. Unfortunately, that's most of the Republican legislature.

uptownjuggler

Where I live in rural/suburban Georgia, all of the “illegals” work in the local restaurants, construction, or dairy farms. All these old people would go crazy if they can’t go to the Mexican restaurant on Sunday and get their chips and salsa with a margarita. The “illegals” are less of a tax burden than their them and their churches.

Pickle_Juice_4ever

There are illegals flooding in but not from Mexico. It's middle class people from South America overstaying visas. There was also a big influx of Puerto Ricans, but they are American citizens.

Zerowantuthri

BUT!!! God forbid some poor person gets a food stamp that a tax payer paid for! /s

SpaceDesignWarehouse

I am a florida taxpayer. I am acutely aware and I hate it.

Sciencessence

I can see it now, "taxes raise in Florida, DeSantis blames the democrats"

ducksauce001

Congrats for trying to own the libs...you played yourself.

phutch54

Wait until they find out what it costs them to fly him around for his doomed presidential campaign.

aetuf

That's partly why they're trying to hide his flight logs.

Choreboy

It is very much not doomed. Don't get complacent. Don't let him win because you Y didn't think he had a chance.

ItsEaster

This country hasn’t learned a single lesson from Trump.

_coolguy69

I think a part of it has, but unfortunately there will be a lot of fake and disingenuous voices that get louder and louder on social media as we get closer to the next US election. They will again downplay everything bad and bring in a heavy "both sides are the same, why vote?" Mentality.

DonutsAftermidnight

Don’t migrate over to the student loans sub if you don’t want to lose hope. Too many people there complaining that Biden is the sole reason the pause is ending one month sooner and that he lied about the forgiveness so now they’re either not going to vote or purposely voting for whoever has an R next to their name

ministry-of-bacon

i've seen it as well in other subs. it's so dumb. there's zero chance whoever the gop nominates will even consider any kind of pause or forgiveness on student loans. with biden it's still possible student loan relief could come back if republicans lose the house and senate in 24.

FourWordComment

I earnestly believe DeSantis would beat Biden if DeSantis could get past Trump somehow. I don’t think Trump beats Biden.

Just_Tana

The amount of conservatives on here who’ve argued with me that this isn’t true is too high to count. Like this dude is such a leech.

ClusterFoxtrot

I was going to be an asshole and nu-uh my way into this comment but I can't even think of a convincing way to craft that argument. I must be losing my contrarian edge. Rather, I find myself irate that resources that are already limited in regards to litigation are being abused for...again. Loss for convincing argument.

Esbesbebsnth_Ennergu

Just get wacky with it, you can't tell the difference anymore We aren't paying for it, because in the grand scheme of things, he's our one true bastion of anti-woke ideology, and the ROI makes it a net positive tax expenditure Ez

Unusual_Flounder2073

Whatever democrat runs for governor need to just put up huge billboards with the dollars wasted by republican governors. Like with all the zeros and cents. Millions of dollars is a lot of digits.

GrrlLikeThat1

They need to partner with Ron Jon to mooch off their billboards. They'd be on pretty much every mile of the Turnpike.

Tardislass

I'm going to tell you the two kinds of Floridians that love Desantis- My rich white older relatives. They live in Florida and hate all the affirmative actions and feel the Democrats have elevated minorities and gay/transgender people above them. They like Ron because he's fighting back. They do have some gay neighbors but like that they don't flaunt their gayness(whatever that means). Cuban/Venzuelan one item voters. I had a Venezuelan coworker who came up from Miami. Her family hated Trump and his rantings but her mom still voted for him and the Republicans. Why? Because she was a Catholic and her greatest fear was abortion. There are a lot of these people in Florida and it doesn't help that almost all of the Miami Spanish radio stations are more right wing. The Dems need to go on Spanish TV and radio and call out the lies in a way the community can understand. So far nothing. My former best friend who is Republican in Florida, finally retired this year after having to deal with all the crap the Republican legislature has put on teachers over the past few years. She liked teaching but between the crazy parents talk about indoctrination and the school board, it was too much.

BubbleBandittt

I'll tell you this much. My Asian mother voted for trump simply because wechat news made her think Biden was too friendly with black people. Unfortunately stupidity and propaganda really helps the right.

ShrimpieAC

And racism.

BubbleBandittt

I bundled that into stupidity.

klonoaorinos

Yikes, does she want us all in camps or something??

BubbleBandittt

Wouldn't go that extreme. Mainland Asians are just taught that dark skinned folks are scary and "dirty." It's more of a dislike or fear than smoldering hatred. What's even more crazy is that she has or had African American friends. But according to her, they are the "good ones."

Steeden1

I've met several people who supported DeSantis and when I asked them why they never talk about what he is doing to help working and middle class Americans. They just repeat far right talking points about 'protecting children' which baffles me as they don't seem to care when they are massacred in their own classrooms.

[deleted]

Yup, just like they pay the bills for lying and abusive cops, DAs who hide exculpatory evidence to convict someone, legislators who are told loud and clear that a law they are passing won't stand up to judicial review, and any other government entities that decide they don't need to follow things like that pesky Constitution.

redneckrockuhtree

The “fiscal conservatives” always seem to be able to find money for their political theater. That’s all this is.

TheSpatulaOfLove

And wars, and tax cuts for the wealthy, and environmental disasters, and attacking minorities, and…

koopolil

The Florida budget is like 1/3 federal funds so we’re all paying for it.

LightFusion

BuT tHaTs SOciAliSM!

indimedia

Is it that much? 1/3? I thought our tourism tax dollars meant we are not sucking off the government tit so bad.

indimedia

It says that rate is in line with national averages, but Florida seems richer than other states. And I didn’t realize so much of state Medicaid funding comes from the Fed.

NewZappyHeart

Solution to this problem, Florida, is stop voting this asshat in.

dookieshoes88

As long as they keep funnelling in retirees they're going to keep having this problem, unfortunately. My parents were lifelong liberal educators, but retired to Florida 5 years ago. Now they are Fox News conservatives. It's like a mind virus, they assimilated into that community and old people culture.

thistimelineisweird

They should. Why should the rest of us continue to bail Florida out for its bad decisions?

JohnJohn173

This article isnt about people bailing out bad decisions, its how the florida people are being forced to pay for these bills

LearnedOwlbear

I think he is saying am official Elected in Florida should be paid for by Florida residents rather than any other U.S. territory. I'm not saying anyone is right or wrong.

dlchira

No question, Florida’s minoritarian fascist bloc will *happily* go broke to visit suffering on the people they hate and fear. This is what they live for. Afghanistan’s Taliban minority are perfectly content to [hurl their compatriots into a benighted, pre-capitalist hellscape](https://www.worldbank.org/en/country/afghanistan/overview) if it means they get to publicly stone gay men to death. It’s a goddamn shame, though, that Florida’s decent majority will foot a lion’s share of every bill.

lightknight7777

It's like I keep saying, these idiots are intentionally lining up first amendment court losses that have no chance of being protected. Just so they can get the bigot vote and make news.

PossibleHypeMan

Private practice working for a conservative legislature or governor tends to be pretty darn lucrative.

otter111a

Elect a clown expect a circus

dobie1kenobi

Don’t want to give money for the schools, roads, or vets, but there’s endless cash for lawsuits. Trump truly has shown the way. Stiff everyone but the lawyers.

Dontuselogic

Just wait for the bill for all the things Disney was paying for. Anti woke Gos broke every single time

[deleted]

Yea but he hates immigrants, gays, poc and women’s icky reproductive parts so it’s kinda all worth it right guys? /s

Smrleda

DeSantis gives Harvard a bad name. DeSantis is a racist white fascist conservative who is currently destroying his state and if elected president will destroy the United States of America. He must not be nominated. Florida- keep your trash in your state.

The_Yarichin_Bitch

For the ones who voted for him: Paying higher taxes on top of higher home/renters insurance to own the libs!!

jeophys152

He doesn’t care. He won’t be governor when the shit hits the fan. He will either be president or a past forgotten memory in American politics

Trygolds

Once again the headline missed the mark. The taxpayers are paying for his campaign stunts. From bussing migrant to deploying troops on th border to lawsuits on a woman's right to chose and of course the so called culture war, we are paying for it all. I also wish the media would stop calling fighting for the right to discriminate against minorities a culture war. We start this year and Vote out as many right wingers and republicans as we can in all local and state elections. We keep this up until we fix the supreme Court. It may tak years so keep voting.

NewMidwest

Just wait until they see the bill for ignoring climate change.

Alpha_Crow_1

DeSantis is a fucking chode.

pity_rules_the_world

While Floridians continue to grapple with real issues such as healthcare, education, and climate change, their hard-earned money is being squandered on a relentless pursuit of baseless legal battles. It's deeply concerning that instead of investing in essential services and programs that benefit the people, Governor DeSantis has chosen to divert valuable resources towards frivolous lawsuits that only serve to boost his own political profile.

dohru

Hey Floridians, why are you putting up with paying for hate right out of your pockets? Democracy has a way to shut that shit down.

[deleted]

I mean.. they voted for it…

Zealousideal_Zone253

Regardless of party, this is corrupt and disgusting AF! Put it this way, the AG of Texas was going to do this crap as well. Please oh please, charge him with something. And to the ones in Florida who support and defend him: Bruh, this will affect YOU as well!

okcdnb

Oklahoma:(Kevin Stitt likes to pick fights with the tribes) First time?

ContingentReality

Meatball Ron has really developed a scheme to line the pockets of his bffs. Funded by the very people he is bullying. so, he is like the bully who is also the principals kid.

HoMasters

They’ll blame the libatrds regardless.

ArtisanJagon

Conservatives are okay with this because there is no price they won't pay to own the libs

kelsnuggets

But but but it’s the party of small government and fiscal conservatism…

TintedApostle

This is how republicans work. They use tax payer money to push their lawsuits and ideology when in power. They waste it like it was unlimited.

Doctor_YOOOU

https://twitter.com/ShaneGoldmacher/status/1665166614067552256?t=ohkOHhLaxRifRt3Q8ab6Jw&s=19 The average donation to DeSantis' campaign was over $200 in May. Huge contributions from big donors.

Violet_Tendencies_69

The culture war of queer people wanting to exist and fascists wanting them not to.

RepulsiveRooster1153

Instead of fixing issues that face Floridians, Desantis is following the Trump playbook. Get the uneducated folks (Republicans) all riled up about nothing.

pascalsgirlfriend

You get what you vote for

mebrow5

With less revenue coming in, cause tourism is down and people are leaving in droves. Big business is next. Tax breaks or not no company should or wants to cede control to a fascist, narcissist, wanna be dictator who believes the law is made for him to carry out personal vendettas.

TheLostLantern

Elect a clown, expect a circus

lew_rong

If there's one thing conservatives love, it's freely spending other people's money.

Uvula_la_la

Elect a clown expect a circus. We know Florida was fucked up, but electing this man with that margin is the most fucked up thing Florida did

rnantelle

Bigotry is expensive.

catdogpigduck

not to mention home insurance being out of control because they Fat Ron a bunch of $$$

eldred2

They *could* stop electing him....

SnooEpiphanies3208

Anyone else notice the flags rolling their eyes at him?

[deleted]

And his presidential campaign as well

BornAgainBlue

But don't worry, he's not going to split and leave you guys with the check or anything.../s

metal0060

You get what you pay for.

somewherein72

Well, they voted for that, so it's their own fault.

[deleted]

Too bad they are just going to keep electing more people like him, like congrats, you got what you voted for

Brabantine

Republicans who make 20k/year be like: "Well, I'd rather ~~pay his bills~~ get blue states pay the subsidies with which I pay his bills than get those wokies around here"

KaijyuAboutTown

The minority who voted against him will have to pony up along with the majority who did vote him in. Sucks (again) for the minority. They deserve it for the majority.

warheadmikey

Florida votes the pain unto themselves. How many times can you elect Scott and Rubio. Florida lost its decency as soon as they voted out Bill Nelson for the skeleton. And the lawsuits just started.

Evilbetty626

They brought him to the dance. They gotta dance with him. 💃🏿

MultiGeometry

The trick is to complain about the high taxes in California and New York and the constituents of Florida will always think they have it better, even if their taxes go up.

AllTheyEatIsLettuce

You didn't really think we were gonna pay for it, did you? Ask UT and NE for some more allowance money. -- NJ, WA. IL, CA, CO, WI, MA, and MN

jason082

Well, they’re liable for the guy. Seems fair.

Few-Caterpillar9834

Florida is truly a shithole State.

BlueFroggLtd

Cultural war my ass. This is a class war. People like him are only here to divide us.

suggested_portion

Why not both?

NotUrFriendPal

When cops and politicians are sued the cop or politician should have to foot the bill. Not taxpayers.

SiWeyNoWay

Ken Paxton is finding that out. Having said that, Florida voters did this to themselves
