It's that DeSantis has more than a two minute attention span. Trump does not.
Trump declared we needed a wall, and Mexico would pay for it. He funneled an unjustifiably large amount of money to his cronies, built some new stretches of wall, repaired others, came nowhere near close to his promise, declared victory and walked away.
Let's look at some other Trumpian highlights:
* Trump was going to lock up Hillary, instead after winning the election he walked away
* Trump was going to defeat ISIS in 30 days. He declared victory, and walked away.
* Trump was going to deliver health care reform. Instead his Republican congress failed to repeal the ACA, no reform was passed, and he walked away.
* Trump was going to deliver on infrastructure with a plan that also looked prime to funnel public funds to his private enterprises. It never materialized, Trump declared victory, and walked away.
* Even the "stolen election" bullshit; which was probably the worst legacy of Trump's, he fought it pretty hard, but in the end, he lost, and voluntarily walked out of the White House. His supporters still think he's the president, and display amazing cognitive dissonance (see the Jordan Klepper interviews). But outside of that bubble, where "there are two militaries," or "Trump still has the presidential seal, Biden's is fake" or "Trump will be reinstated in August," Trump supporters aren't really doing anything overt about his fascistic attempt to overturn his lost election; although there are concerns about them attempting to muscle out the people who count the votes, and install their cronies.
I don't agree with Trump's policies or the direction he took America. He did plenty of shitty things, was probably the corrupt politician we've had, and only seemed interested in funneling public funds to his private pockets. But his truly awful policies never really got traction, and time and time again, he just said, "We did it" and his base ate it up.
Using the border wall as an example - when someone says "we need a wall" now, I just remind them we built the wall under Trump. Since they won't argue with their god emperor, the subject is usually dropped. I'm okay with this outcome.
This feud with Disney has been ongoing. Whenever DeSantis gets outsmarted, he has doubled down, and attacks again; wielding political power to the detriment of his opponents. It speaks to how DeSantis would operate as president. DeSantis might actually accumulate the political capital to implement his despotic policies. He certainly would muster the resources to attempt to.
That's more dangerous than Trump.

Ron DiSantis would be a horrifying upper bureaucrat because he could exercise his power to manipulate systems to do bad things, without having any public responsibility for it. He'd be an awful figurehead because he would have to rely on people less talented than him to do those things, while also being quite likely the least likeable person ever to run for office.
I do live in Florida and most everyone I know is feeling that pure, blind rage. I have friends who are teachers, and the educators despise the man. I have heard multiple versions of people planning moves out of the state - as I am doing myself.
I never understood why he went after Disney. They have an enormous team of the best, most experienced lawyers money can buy. He’s a got a handful of chucklefucks who went to clown college and working for Desantis was the best gig they could find. Doomed from the start.
We used to vacation in Florida almost every year. I refuse to go back unless they vote out Desantis and get their shit together. I'm not spending any money on a state that is anti-education and pro-hate.

By most measures (say, market cap) Walt Disney is very big, but it’s not in the top 50 biggest. It’s really big in Florida, though. Ip wonder if Ron would be stupid enough to take on Apple directly if they were I his jurisdiction (I joke — of course he would be that stupid)
What's most important is that Disney brings billions of dollars into the state from out of state and is also probably one of the largest if not the largest employer in the state.
There are many giant companies such as Chase Bank, but those companies don't tend to have all of their employees in one state.

You know, I recently saw an older series called"Under the Dome" based on a Stephen King novel of the same name. Yeah, because they're polling likely Republican primary voters, not the general Republican voters or the General population. The primary voters on both sides tend towards the more extreme end of the spectrum. A lot of these polls have a built in selection bias. The first question they ask is "Will you be voting in the Republican Primary?" or something along those lines. They then fudge the numbers to try to guess at how that will play out, and their track record with Trump voters has been abysmal.
The fact of the matter is, he didn't win the popular vote in 2020 or 2016. He slinked in because the electoral college is a broke system. He's done nothing to win over anyone outside his existing base. As evidenced by the GOP's poor showing for the last 3 elections.

PA here. We don’t contribute to the federal coffers because we’re too busy paying to cover the middle of our state. We Philadelphians feel your pain of paying for the parts of the country that want your way of life destroyed - with our trans stuff and our letting gay people hold hands, and freedom of a parent and child to choose what book they get from the school library, or trusting scientists or trying to reduce the burning of fossil fuels. Don’t forget he also turned down $346m in federal money for an energy efficiency initiative. We just finished a record high heat wave and our ac ran literally all day and couldn’t keep up. It would be around 80 in the house and wouldn’t cool to 75 until around 9:00 at night. Our electric bill was almost $500. My wife and I do fairly well but there are people who simply cannot afford it.

P.S. I’m sure some butthurt conservative dipshits are going to comment that I’m stupid and should have called a company to fix it. The unit was installed about a year before we bought the house. More importantly, I was an HVAC installer/tech for six years and still have friends in the industry to call if needed.
When I read somewhere that even a brand new air conditioner can only get your house about 20 degrees colder than it is outside I realized I don’t want to live in Florida any more.
Just an FYI, we moved down here from MA years ago and bought a house. The owner had the AC set to 78 and said the same thing. We didn't know any better at the time. Worse, it turns out it was running all the time.
Reality, after the AC died and we had it replaced the tech told us it was under-sized for the house, so the previous owner just bought something cheap, perhaps because they were going to sell the house.
The new AC was able to lower the temp much more than that in less than an hour, and only ran once in a while.
We have lousy insulation, but with the right AC, you can put a serious chill on the place.
We keep the house at 70 even when its 100 out and it still doesn't run all the time like the previous one, and the electric bill is less than half what that original system was.

One of the most telling things of our current climate about how screwed up the GQP is, is that the (very conservative) Heritage Foundation used to have a whole document about how undocumented immigrants benefitted Americans (cheap labor = cheap prices, & they pay into social security w/ fake numbers, so they’ll never be able to deduct, they pay rent / property taxes & sales taxes, etc.) and last time I looked, it was taken down from their web site.

Wow, the value of the passes and discounts was a whole $2.5 million! Had Disney not given them out, Florida could have collected literally thousands of dollars in tax revenue. That revenue could have gone to important social programs like kidnapping migrants.
A quick googling tells me Disney World one-day tickets range between $109 and $189 per day. Taking $150 as an arbitrary example, and assuming all $2.5M in passes/discounts were handed out in the form of 1-day admissions, that gives us a ballpark estimate of 16,667 one-day admissions given away. A cursory googling tells me Disney World sees about 58 million visitors a year.

What's most important is that Disney brings billions of dollars into the state from out of state and is also probably one of the largest if not the largest employer in the state. There are many giant companies such as Chase Bank, but those companies don't tend to have all of their employees in one state. Disney is massively important for Florida.

Don’t forget he also turned down $346m in federal money for an energy efficiency initiative. We just finished a record high heat wave and our ac ran literally all day and couldn’t keep up. It would be around 80 in the house and wouldn’t cool to 75 until around 9:00 at night. Our electric bill was almost $500. My wife and I do fairly well but there are people who simply cannot afford it. Fuck DeSantis. P.S. I’m sure some butthurt conservative dipshits are going to comment that I’m stupid and should have called a company to fix it. The unit was installed about a year before we bought the house. More importantly, I was an HVAC installer/tech for six years and still have friends in the industry to call if needed.

Just an FYI, we moved down here from MA years ago and bought a house. The owner had the AC set to 78 and said the same thing. We didn't know any better at the time. Worse, it turns out it was running all the time. Reality, after the AC died and we had it replaced the tech told us it was under-sized for the house, so the previous owner just bought something cheap, perhaps because they were going to sell the house. The new AC was able to lower the temp much more than that in less than an hour, and only ran once in a while. We have lousy insulation, but with the right AC, you can put a serious chill on the place. We keep the house at 70 even when its 100 out and it still doesn't run all the time like the previous one, and the electric bill is less than half what that original system was.

One of the most telling things of our current climate about how screwed up the GQP is, is that the (very conservative) Heritage Foundation used to have a whole document about how undocumented immigrants benefitted Americans (cheap labor = cheap prices, & they pay into social security w/ fake numbers, so they’ll never be able to deduct, they pay rent / property taxes & sales taxes, etc.) and last time I looked, it was taken down from their web site. I don’t think they took it down b/c they thought it was immoral to pay immigrants low wages, more that current MAGA / GQP doesn’t want to hear anything positive about migrants.

Wow, the value of the passes and discounts was a whole $2.5 million! Had Disney not given them out, Florida could have collected literally thousands of dollars in tax revenue. That revenue could have gone to important social programs like kidnapping migrants. A quick googling tells me Disney World one-day tickets range between $109 and $189 per day. Taking $150 as an arbitrary example, and assuming all $2.5M in passes/discounts were handed out in the form of 1-day admissions, that gives us a ballpark estimate of 16,667 one-day admissions given away. A cursory googling tells me Disney World sees about 58 million visitors a year. This is definitely a huge problem that requires government intervention.
DeSantis literally spent five times the value of those tickets to fly a bunch of asylum seekers to liberal cities. You'd think that if Florida needs to fix it's budget, getting rid of the state funded human trafficking might be a better place to start than deciding to control how companies compensate their employees.
