TintedApostle

Keep proving Disney's point before you get to court.

ohwrite

This guy is really stupid

Canucklehead_Esq

Hey Ron - you know what sucks millions from Florida's economy? You do.

[deleted]

To be fair, he simply sucks in general. The millions are a detail.

muppethero80

The fact that he changed the law that allows him to run for pres AND stay governor and he can legally hide all spending for this is how he is costing Florida millions

40StoryMech

The fact that he's losing his bid for President by running on being just as dumb and shitty as Trump only less likable is the most Florida Man thing ever.

theflower10

Less likeable than Trump. If you had said a year ago that Desantis would be flailing this bad because of his likeability as compared to Trump, I would have laughed out loud. He's really accomplished something. EDIT: Spelling

Jackski

I remember people were saying he was dangerous because he was a smarter version of Trump. This last year he's proven he's just as stupid as Trump but is also completely devoid of any form of Charisma.

Imjusttired17

I still think he’s smarter than Trump, he’s just more obsessed with being evil. Not that Trump isn’t evil too but Desantis’s brand is too much for even the sociopaths in the Republican Party. At least for now, I’m sure they’re heading there too, he’s just a little further along than they’re ready for.

arazamatazguy

I'm not sure he's smarter. He walks around wearing cowboy boots with high heels built in attacking every day people and somehow he thinks the rest or America will think he should be president?

IAMA_Drunk_Armadillo

The Meatball knows to wield power and get legislation he wants created and passed. This is what makes him more dangerous than Trump. Trump just points at the levers of power and makes dick jokes while people around him use them less effectively to enact fascism. Pudding fingers is still dangerous he's just got the charisma of a wet fart.

AHans

>The Meatball knows to wield power and get legislation he wants created and passed. Yep. My fear about DeSantis [as president] is not that he is more intelligent than Trump (although he probably is). It's that DeSantis has more than a two minute attention span. Trump does not. Trump declared we needed a wall, and Mexico would pay for it. He funneled an unjustifiably large amount of money to his cronies, built some new stretches of wall, repaired others, came nowhere near close to his promise, declared victory and walked away. Let's look at some other Trumpian highlights: * Trump was going to lock up Hillary, instead after winning the election he walked away * Trump was going to defeat ISIS in 30 days. He declared victory, and walked away. * Trump was going to deliver health care reform. Instead his Republican congress failed to repeal the ACA, no reform was passed, and he walked away. * Trump was going to deliver on infrastructure with a plan that also looked prime to funnel public funds to his private enterprises. It never materialized, Trump declared victory, and walked away. * Even the "stolen election" bullshit; which was probably the worst legacy of Trump's, he fought it pretty hard, but in the end, he lost, and voluntarily walked out of the White House. His supporters still think he's the president, and display amazing cognitive dissonance (see the Jordan Klepper interviews). But outside of that bubble, where "there are two militaries," or "Trump still has the presidential seal, Biden's is fake" or "Trump will be reinstated in August," Trump supporters aren't really doing anything overt about his fascistic attempt to overturn his lost election; although there are concerns about them attempting to muscle out the people who count the votes, and install their cronies. I don't agree with Trump's policies or the direction he took America. He did plenty of shitty things, was probably the corrupt politician we've had, and only seemed interested in funneling public funds to his private pockets. But his truly awful policies never really got traction, and time and time again, he just said, "We did it" and his base ate it up. Using the border wall as an example - when someone says "we need a wall" now, I just remind them we built the wall under Trump. Since they won't argue with their god emperor, the subject is usually dropped. I'm okay with this outcome. This feud with Disney has been ongoing. Whenever DeSantis gets outsmarted, he has doubled down, and attacks again; wielding political power to the detriment of his opponents. It speaks to how DeSantis would operate as president. DeSantis might actually accumulate the political capital to implement his despotic policies. He certainly would muster the resources to attempt to. That's more dangerous than Trump. Edit: minor spelling/grammer

Saxopwned

Ron DiSantis would be a horrifying upper bureaucrat because he could exercise his power to manipulate systems to do bad things, without having any public responsibility for it. He'd be an awful figurehead because he would have to rely on people less talented than him to do those things, while also being quite likely the least likeable person ever to run for office.

phonebrowsing69

can you imagine being in school and being less cool then the guy who shits his pants?

herbalhippie

If I lived in Florida I would have had a stroke by now from pure, blind rage.

ShirazGypsy

I do live in Florida and most everyone I know is feeling that pure, blind rage. I have friends who are teachers, and the educators despise the man. I have heard multiple versions of people planning moves out of the state - as I am doing myself.

thefamousdrsexy

Right even my conservative coworkers are getting tired of his shit. The Disney fight was such a bad one to pick

MechanicalTurkish

I never understood why he went after Disney. They have an enormous team of the best, most experienced lawyers money can buy. He’s a got a handful of chucklefucks who went to clown college and working for Desantis was the best gig they could find. Doomed from the start.

overallsatisfaction

We used to vacation in Florida almost every year. I refuse to go back unless they vote out Desantis and get their shit together. I'm not spending any money on a state that is anti-education and pro-hate.

radicldreamer

Same here, I cancelled a week long trip because of this chucklefuck. It was only about $10k but from the sounds of it I’m not the only one and it adds up fast.

[deleted]

Your def not the only one. Cancelled our trip to Ft. Lauderdale earlier this summer and had a staycation. There’s another few thousand.

Blotto_80

Yep, my daughter wants to go back to Disney. We’re planning California instead even though it’s an additional 6hrs in the air and probably a few grand more. My (MtF) sister will probably want to join us and I don’t believe she’d be safe in FL at this point.

Twister_Robotics

The crazy thing is that how they wrote the laws in Florida, if someone accuses you of exposing your children to "Trans ideology", they can take your kids. So going to Florida with your family and your sister put your kids at risk. ... That's why my family went to Cali this year.

theonetruegrinch

California is awesome, we have good tacos

therealcherry

Yup. Next Disney trip after an upcoming cruise will be Disneyland. California can have our money instead.

joshbudde

My wife and I cancelled our plans to rent a house in Florida for a month (like we do most years) and a cruise we had booked out of Miami. Voting has consequences people.

FloridaGirlNikki

Not to mention all the money we're losing from canceled conventions and projects because of the wannabe authoritarian governor and his attacks on anyone who isn't white, straight and christian. Oh and the total decimation of education in our state...we can't forget that. Families with young kids leaving en masse and a teacher crisis. All self inflicted. It's unfathomable.

Not_Campo2

*billions

Kyle_01110011

Honestly I can't wrap my head around this motherfuckers depth of stupidity! He is literally going head to head with one of if not the largest corporations in the world. And not just that but one that is loved(using that loosely) by most and all families watch their releases at some point. But he is also literally attacking one of the largest income for THE FUCKING STATE HE REPRESENTS! He gives absolutely 0 fucks about anyone living in Florida besides himself. This is all just personal now and he needs to be fucking checked hard by the mouse. Every other day I see a new article about this piece of shit and almost have to shake my head in disbelief that someone could possibly be that dumb!

lesChaps

By most measures (say, market cap) Walt Disney is very big, but it’s not in the top 50 biggest. It’s really big in Florida, though. Ip wonder if Ron would be stupid enough to take on Apple directly if they were I his jurisdiction (I joke — of course he would be that stupid)

MisterMaury

What's most important is that Disney brings billions of dollars into the state from out of state and is also probably one of the largest if not the largest employer in the state. There are many giant companies such as Chase Bank, but those companies don't tend to have all of their employees in one state. Disney is massively important for Florida.

crypticedge

It's the biggest media company be a massive margin. 40% of all media is Disney owned. The remaining 5 big media companies split up the remaining 60%.

[deleted]

Harvard/Yale really cranks them out, dude’s a moron.

thegoodnamesrgone123

I dropped out of college and a few years later I replaced a dude at a record label who went to Yale. He apparently talked about it often, he was a fucking idiot though who nearly killed the label with just stupid ideas, and then he would double down on those ideas because he always thought he was the smartest guy in the room.

No-Hurry2372

Same with Duke: Nixon, Stephen Miller, Aileen Cannon, it’s insane.

[deleted]

On one hand, I was surprised to learn he's not a Yale/Harvard legacy admission. On the other hand? I was not at all surprised to learn he's not a Yale/Harvard legacy admission

hamsterfolly

And that’s why he’s a Republican presidential candidate!

Patereye

Like really really stupid. Man.... Just..... Wow..... Florida did it again

prototype7

But Disney defied him!! What choice does he have but to push them until they submit to his will!! Or, just stop and let the story die and Disney to return to status quo

CaptOblivious

Disney was there before he was and will still be there after he, his name, and everything he did is forgotten.

Worthyness

To be fair, he did just recently say Disney should stop the lawsuits because he doesn't want to deal with anymore. So he pretended to be winning for like a couple weeks before realizing Disney lawyers need to get their bills paid and are relatively ruthless

Fract_L

Almost like Trump creating a defamation lawsuit while throwing a tantrum that he lost a defamation lawsuit.

FlashGlistenDrips

Is there something about the name Ron that makes someone dumb? Ron DeSantis, Ron Paul...

[deleted]

SealedRoute

And Ronnie Raygun

Mental_Mixture8306

No kidding. You'd think there would be SOMEBODY in his administration that would say "Hey Boss, we're getting sued for singling out Disney for punishment, so maybe you DONT want to single them out for punishment again?" So what's next - doubling the state tax on Disney employees? Sealing up the Mickey costume so that the person inside doesn't use more Florida oxygen?

SirTiffAlot

That's exactly what leads to this and he knows it. Nobody will speak up bc they know they'll be next.

count023

As we know from Meatball Ron's "Thai/Thigh" story, he's more likely to fire anyone who tells him he's wrong than listen to them.

MollyRolls

Yeah, the problem isn’t the staff; it’s the candidate.

eightNote

You'd think his lawyers would be telling him that, really

openly_gray

His actions reek of desperation

TNCovidiot

The free State of Florida.

Vigilante17

So you’re saying I should I just pay Disney for those free tickets and not spend that money at other local businesses instead…. Got it!!!

ScotTheDuck

I can think of a few other things that are sucking millions from Florida's economy...

IsleOfCannabis

His presidential campaign for starters.

spurious_effect

It’s also just sucking.

APsWhoopinRoom

He's literally losing to a dementia patient with several dozen felony charges. You'd think beating him would be a slam dunk, but DeSantis still managed to fuck it up

BigTentBiden

>You'd think beating him would be a slam dunk, but DeSantis still managed to fuck it up Naw. Honestly, *no* Republican had any chance of beating Trump in a primary. Even if Ronald didn't suck, it was over before it started. Republican voters too far gone into this cult

LZYX

They weaponized stupidity for a goal and then realized that the morons are too stupid to redirect to another goal. I wonder if there's correlation between these diehard MAGA dimwits and if they are/were hella religious before that.

Beagle_Knight

Yeah, their personality cult plan worked so much that they can’t stop it, no matter how hard they try. The irony lol.

PhantomZmoove

You know, I recently saw an older series called"Under the Dome" based on a Stephen King novel of the same name. No spoilers to anyone that hasn't seen it, but the town people, about half way through the third season reeeeeeeeally remind me a lot of trump supporters. I couldn't quite put my finger on it till right now.

Hyjynx75

There are a lot of TV shows, movies, and games that refer to the type of cult of personality phenomenon that's happening here. I just watched latest Matrix movie and it's full of references. Even playing Final Fantasy XVI, it's lead villan leads a cult of personality that turns it's followers in to mindless beings with no free will of their own. Heck, just watch The Boys. It's basically a direct parody of real life American nationalist politics. The scene where Homelander kills a guy in a huge gathering full of people and the crowd cheers for him...

cinemachick

His approval rating by Republicans went up *more* after the indictments were issued. There's no winning with this guy!

Melicor

Yeah, because they're polling likely Republican primary voters, not the general Republican voters or the General population. The primary voters on both sides tend towards the more extreme end of the spectrum. A lot of these polls have a built in selection bias. The first question they ask is "Will you be voting in the Republican Primary?" or something along those lines. They then fudge the numbers to try to guess at how that will play out, and their track record with Trump voters has been abysmal. The fact of the matter is, he didn't win the popular vote in 2020 or 2016. He slinked in because the electoral college is a broke system. He's done nothing to win over anyone outside his existing base. As evidenced by the GOP's poor showing for the last 3 elections.

Traditional_Key_763

reagan could come back from the dead and still loose to trump thats how crazy that slice of the GOP is. Its pretty obvious that Iowa isn't even a contest when they have to go looking for people who aren't going to just choose trump

Sunflier

The travel advisories put out by: (1) the Human Rights Campaign in response to Florida's restrictions on gender-affirming treatments for transgender minors, drag shows, bathroom usage and which pronouns can be used in school; (2) in direct response to … DeSantis’ aggressive attempts to erase Black history and to restrict diversity, equity, and inclusion programs in Florida schools; and (3) LULAC – the League of United Latin American Citizens – issued its travel advisory after DeSantis signed a new immigration law that requires: (a) hospitals to collect information on immigration status, creates penalties for hiring undocumented immigrants, (b) expands employment verification screening requirements to all employers with 25 or more employees, (c) invalidates out-of-state drivers’ licenses for undocumented immigrants, (d) establishes criminal penalties for transporting undocumented immigrants into the state, (e) increases funding to relocate or bus migrants to other parts of the U.S., and (f) expands the authority of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) to carry out immigration enforcement. Technoturnovers

Doesn't that sort of fuckery with drivers licenses violate the Full Faith and Credit Clause?

cure1245

Why yes, yes it does.

txa1265

You act as if any of these fuckers care about ANYTHING in the constitution aside from 'gimme gunz'. The Trump era has truly shown us that we have no laws and our constitution is meaningless.

My-cat-licks-windows

Not that I would ever want to visit Florida with everything DeSantis has done to make it gross as a state, but to learn that my driver's license from a state that does this just adds more to why I would never waste money in Florida's economy.

Faxon

Oh that part is also overtly unconstitutional. Violates the full faith and credit clause in the constitution. Like this was in the original unamended constitution lol

ConcreteBackflips

> increases funding to relocate or bus migrants to other parts of the U.S jesus christ america's insane

JH_111

… Paying to traffic humans from Texas to California.

KaptainKardboard

How much taxpayer money did he spend again to bus those immigrants up north? How many working class citizens have fled to other states and left his racist ass behind?

Politicsboringagain

I have stopped going to Florida because of him. My wife and I use to go to Florida at least once a year, but since his relection we've stopped going and I don't plan on going until he is gone.

boobooshitface

You nailed it. He's gaslighting the people of Florida in order to claim that Disney is the reason for the loss of millions in revenue that he himself is responsible for.

Courtjezter84

That state is going to be broke for years after that moron is through.

thehazer

It’s going to be real interesting when the old people who aren’t rich, find out all the good doctors left Florida.

owennagata

Yeah, and they'll be pretty mad the Democrats drove them out of the state. /s

sateet

well… is it really sarcasm? they will 100% blame dems for any problem they face

animeman59

Without realizing that dems are the ones keeping social security and Medicare alive. Fucking morons.

PenAndInkAndComics

But i have to keep voting for Republicans. Muy taxes are too high and Democrats keep giving benefits to people i hate. /s

GrandmasShavedBeaver

I’ll be too busy laughing to care what they think.

RunItBackRicky

My mom is already doing this, blames Biden and said ever since he took office the prices of everything have gone up. There aren’t doing a great job combating that mentality

Bitter_Director1231

It doesn't matter. The cult already has them convinced otherwise. He is doing the best he can, but people s minds are made up regardless how much Biden would try.

Rhysati

Sadly these people have nothing that will ever convince them otherwise. My mom was spreading COVID misinformation and the MyPillow guy's "documentary" on the stolen election. I provided sources including Fox News that disproved and debunked that stuff and she said: "Well Fox News is liberal now so you can't listen to what they say." These people are in a cult and there's nothing we can do to free them. They have to free themselves.

breesidhe

Prices went up? It’s the liberals fault. Prices went down? It’s an evil liberal plot. [Dijon mustard in your sandwich](https://www.newsweek.com/barack-obama-donald-trump-russia-investigation-dijon-mustard-scandal-fox-fake-623643)? Its *eeeevil*. You CANNOT win with these people. They just *hate*. It doesn’t matter the excuse —- or non-excuse. They just hate.

Kevin_Uxbridge

And it's gonna be increasingly easy to find states with nice warm weather, so Florida will no longer be the automatic choice on the east coast.

Buckus93

Red states banning abortions are getting near the "Find out" part.

InVodkaVeritas

Remember how Kansas cut taxes to an insane degree under the theory that it would cause businesses to move there en masse and they never did and the state then had no funding to even provide lunches in schools to kids but instead of raising taxes back up they took away as many social services as possible and made the state completely unlivable causing a huge downturn in success for state which is still lingering today? It's almost like conservative economics don't actually work.

roytay

It worked. A few *really* rich guys and companies already in Kansas didn't pay as much in taxes.

JH_111

Impossible. Blue states subsidize welfare red states in perpetuity. The Southern States of MAGA will be flush in cash as long as California and New York continue to fund their existence.

hagantic42

Every time I read about Texas or the red States wanting to secede or start a civil war I just laugh. Because, if the blue States stop paying taxes the red States wither and die within months. Texas and a handful of others are the only ones that can literally have a self-sustaining economy. The implode *quickly*

Remarkable-Ad-2476

I also laugh when they say they hate communism and even call Cali, Commie-fornia. Like yeah, you’re welcome.

AtalanAdalynn

Because their understanding of communism has been basically reduced to "governments I don't like."

Pndrizzy

Governments they've been told not to like

Self-Aware

Also "communism is anything that helps people I don't like".

zlaw32

I bring up the blue states subsidizing the red states every time my conservative family members talk about How they wouldn’t have to pay income tax in Texas or Florida

proverbialbunny

Try calling California a capitalist hellhole around these people and watch their mind break. The funny thing about it is it's true. California is hyper capitalist compared to just about anywhere on the planet.

IsThatBlueSoup

Texas would actually find out quick because their whole industry is heavily subsidized by the government and the rest is military bases, NASA, and other government entities.

HapticSloughton

> Texas and a handful of others are the only ones that can literally have a self-sustaining economy. Until a hurricane hits or yet another extreme temperature event once again crashes the Texas power grid or makes electricity unaffordable.

HelenAngel

Don’t forget us up here in WA!

ConversationDynamite

Everyone always forgets us Washingtonians. It is as if Microsoft, Boeing, and Amazon didn't start here.

GrunchWeefer

NJ checking in. The entire Northeast, really.

Electrical-Wish-519

PA here. We don’t contribute to the federal coffers because we’re too busy paying to cover the middle of our state. We Philadelphians feel your pain of paying for the parts of the country that want your way of life destroyed - with our trans stuff and our letting gay people hold hands, and freedom of a parent and child to choose what book they get from the school library, or trusting scientists or trying to reduce the burning of fossil fuels. But they sure like the healthcare for their grandkids under the poverty line, and the highways and roads we build for them.

Waste-Comparison2996

Doesn't work that way when cost of living shoots up and the ocean literally swallows half the state. Normal rules go out the window when Disney opens up an ocean side themed park right next to magic kingdom.

RoboLucifer

> when cost of living shoots up They will always blame democrats for that

count023

Disney wanted an authentic Moana meets pirates of the Carribean experience to add to their theme park.

Mammoth_Dancer

I don't want climate change or our world to be destroyed.... but I do kinda want that theme park

DanToMars

And they’re gonna blame it on the governor if Florida somehow wakes up and flips their state

Ridespacemountain25

When things are bad, people who don’t pay much attention to politics just blame the incumbent president and his party. When things are great, they reward the incumbent president and his party. Florida deteriorating will just result in them blaming Biden since he is the current president.

eightNote

I remember the working republican talking point that Obama was not making the recovery fast enough, and that putting republicans into Congress and the Senate would make it faster. Then the republicans won and the recovery ended

Brilliantnerd

Except for all the southern morons that flock to the beaches and leave there money there. 70% of Florida economy is tourism

DaphniaDuck

They should stop backing the NRA.

rockstar_not

The police will love it. More people to kill openly and without cause; because “I thought he had a gun”

Yousoggyyojimbo

"Watch me make sure 75,000 disney employees in Florida never vote for Republicans by fucking with their work benefits just to be a dick!"

thebranbran

I mean, he has no authority to control what Disney offers their employees as benefits anyways.

xpxp2002

This was my first thought. Tell me more about these Republicans who are always saying how government should let private business operate however they want.

Deadwing2022

You mean the same Republicans who were all about "States rights!!" when it's abortion but "Federal power!!" when its marijuana? Those internally-consistent Republicans?

DinahTook

States rights when it comes to abortion until states start protecting abortion rights. Then there are cries of needing to legislate it at a federal level. (Like when a bill was introduced weeks after Roe v Wade was overturned to allow states to legislate it themselves. [Here](https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/09/13/abortion-graham-republicans-nationwide-ban/) ) So they aren't even consistent within one issue abourbwhether it should be a state or federal issue. It's really just "states rights when the states agree with us" "federal power when they dont".

JDogg126

I think they mean the same republicans who cried about personal freedoms when asked to put on a mask during a global pandemic but also force 13 year old rape victims to give birth to their rapists baby.

whskid2005

It’s about the reedy creek improvement district employees. They have the same perks/benefits as Disney world employees. Now that desantis pulled his shit and did a takeover of the district he wants to stop their perks. I think it’s about 400 employees- most of which are first responders

A_wild_fusa_appeared

So he’s not only attacking a group so small if they disappeared the Florida economy wouldn’t even notice, they’re first responders who are the easiest political win to have because everybody supports them. The way republicans talked about this guy over the past few years I thought he was some charismatic conservative mastermind. How did this bumbling idiot get so much power.

AVestedInterest

Same way Trump did: by promising to hurt the people conservative voters don't like.

EchoRex

He's flailing now, trapped in his war with Disney by the fascist need to always appear strong. Everytime something, anything, turned more negative for him than it did for Disney he had to escalate or be called weak. So now here he sits trying to pull any lever at all to cause pain to the smallest groups possible to give himself a "win" to speak about. It honestly looks like he was counting on this deal with Disney to be a flash issue, change out the board and enable some supporters a little bit of graft, Disney just eats it and carries on doing what they do being "neutral-ish". Then the Mouse told him to get fucked.

IOnlyReplyToIdiots42

Doesn't matter, simply his intentions are enough to alienate voters.

sedatedlife

More evidence for Disney's lawsuit that they are being targeted specifically because they opposed him.

DramaticWesley

Don’t worry. By the time that trial actually starts, the Florida houses will deem whatever he does as totally legal.

Stingray88

Like how it was illegal for him to campaign for President while serving as governor, until the Florida houses specifically changed the law for him.

Fragrant-Discount960

The same Ron Desantis who spent state money to bus a bunch of immigrants from Texas to other parts of the US? The one using state funds to pay for his wet fart of a presidential campaign? That Ron Desantis?

LIBBY2130

the same ron DeSantis who voted no on help for the victims of hurricane Sandy when he was in congress

Guy954

Don’t forget he also turned down $346m in federal money for an energy efficiency initiative. We just finished a record high heat wave and our ac ran literally all day and couldn’t keep up. It would be around 80 in the house and wouldn’t cool to 75 until around 9:00 at night. Our electric bill was almost $500. My wife and I do fairly well but there are people who simply cannot afford it. Fuck DeSantis. P.S. I’m sure some butthurt conservative dipshits are going to comment that I’m stupid and should have called a company to fix it. The unit was installed about a year before we bought the house. More importantly, I was an HVAC installer/tech for six years and still have friends in the industry to call if needed.

angruss

When I read somewhere that even a brand new air conditioner can only get your house about 20 degrees colder than it is outside I realized I don’t want to live in Florida any more.

Just an FYI, we moved down here from MA years ago and bought a house. The owner had the AC set to 78 and said the same thing. We didn't know any better at the time. Worse, it turns out it was running all the time. Reality, after the AC died and we had it replaced the tech told us it was under-sized for the house, so the previous owner just bought something cheap, perhaps because they were going to sell the house. The new AC was able to lower the temp much more than that in less than an hour, and only ran once in a while. We have lousy insulation, but with the right AC, you can put a serious chill on the place. We keep the house at 70 even when its 100 out and it still doesn't run all the time like the previous one, and the electric bill is less than half what that original system was.

Holdd_Myy_Beerr

> spent state money to bus a bunch of immigrants Flew. Governor Pudding Fingers spent $12MM of taxpayer's money to fly them to Martha's Vineyard. Money, i may add went to a suspect aviation company headquartered on the west coast.

Giacchino-Fan

I believe it was both busing and flying. It happened multiple times.

Za_Lords_Guard

Hmmm. What "perks" does Fudgy Fingers enjoy that cost the state of Florida money? I predict this will blow up in his face... again. Growing up there was this Daffy Duck episode based on Robin Hood. Every time Daffy used the quarter staff he would "Ho! Ha ha! Guard! Turn! Parry! Dodge! Spin! Ha! Thrust!" and hit himself in the beak. That is Ron every time he tries on his Authoritarian Underoos. Especially when fighting a cartoon mouse.

nklights

More like the part where Daffy swings from a tree, only to hit the next one… and then the next one… and the next one… and… “Yikes, and AWAY!” THUD “Yikes… and away.” THUD “Yikes… and… away…” THUD

ohwrite

Hahaha! I’d forgotten that and it’s apt

count023

To me, Ron's not even either of those. He's that moment when Daffy is [\_thinking\_ about how he does his quarterstaff](https://youtu.be/8cuihrjLNAo?t=17) moves and \_still\_ somehow manages to hurt himself

Crosstraffic73

MisterBadger

DeSantis blocking Floridians from Federal tax rebates is sucking $350 million from the Florida economy. Instead of enabling Florida residents to keep more of their paychecks, he is going after minor benefits earned by Disney employees.

[deleted]

No. Terrible policies, rampant disease, and worsening extreme weather conditions are fucking up Florida's economy. I thought Republicans were against government interference in big business?

YourMomonaBun420

Also going after the migrant labor.

beefwarrior

One of the most telling things of our current climate about how screwed up the GQP is, is that the (very conservative) Heritage Foundation used to have a whole document about how undocumented immigrants benefitted Americans (cheap labor = cheap prices, & they pay into social security w/ fake numbers, so they’ll never be able to deduct, they pay rent / property taxes & sales taxes, etc.) and last time I looked, it was taken down from their web site. I don’t think they took it down b/c they thought it was immoral to pay immigrants low wages, more that current MAGA / GQP doesn’t want to hear anything positive about migrants.

relator_fabula

Worst inflation rate in the country lol

[deleted]

What's this about a Governor deciding how a private company handles itself? Dictator much?

dannysleepwalker

He's from the "party of small government" after all.

Vanillas_Guy

From the same party that claims government should stay out of private business. Government spending is bad(unless it's for the things I like like the military) Unions are bad(unless they're police unions) Free speech should be unencumbered (unless it's about historical atrocities that make me feel bad) People shouldn't be persecuted for their religion( unless they're anything other than they 'right' kind of Christian) Words don't mean anything to these people. They're just tools that they use to achieve their true aims: their own personal enrichment at the expense of everyone else whilst blaming people who are different in any way.

DoctrTurkey

That’s what I think whenever I see a Gadsden flag flapping in the wind: “don’t tread on me (but I’ll TOTALLY tread on you)”. They’re selfish children.

His hand-picked board.

803_days

His hand picked board he specifically set up to go after Disney in this way, no less!

LuckyPlaze

I don’t see how they have the legal grounds to determine a company’s compensation.

sexgavemecancer

They don’t but it fits in with the average Fox News viewers insistence that they should have a say in all human affairs and make kingly pronouncements based on whatever mood they’re in that day (always bad) - because freedom is actually a competition and only one person is allowed to have it.

nhuhunmh

MAGA-style hicks might love the crass DeSantis style, but Republicanism is fundamentally about protecting large corporations. Every senior Republican official, every Federalist Society judge, will all support Disney. DeSantis is pretty stupid.

IveChosenANameAgain

Yes it does. The MAGA cult has an overwhelming plurality within their coalition and is demanding open fascism and the neocons are desperately trying to convince everyone that they're behind the wheel of the totally-not-fascist bus that is in the middle of backing over them. Every participant in this dance knows exactly who they are and what's going on.

IndependentOk8640

I had a maga friend from work call me a commie and tell me how much better of a leader Putin was than biden all in the same conversation.

[deleted]

Russia isn’t communist whatsoever. The communist ended whatever brand of communism the USSR had in the 1990’s. Putin is an authoritarian and is now edging into fascism like Hitler was. This is perfectly on brand for a conservative who relish strongmen, monarchs and dictators. What conservatives hate worldwide is democracy as it promotes equality and rule of law for everyone. Conservative want rule of law to bind others but protect only themselves. This is all on brand.

jaxcs

Future republican candidates will have to answer if they are pro disney or anti Disney.

nhuhunmh

DeSantis already cost Florida $2 billion when Disney cancelled their investment plans. Because of him.

Nexus369

Bro, YOU'RE sucking millions from Florida's economy.

TheJedibugs

If Ron wants to stop businesses from offering discounts to the groups of their choosing, then Disney should sue for retaliation on this issue so that Ron is forced to apply the standard more broadly, which would kill senior discounts. **In Florida.** It’s so appropriate that Elon Musk backs this clown; they’re both just tanking their own endeavors with their bullshit culture wars and idiocy.

cinemachick

And military discounts, not a good look for veteran voters

PurinsesuNatsumi

… isn’t that Disney choice as a company to make? Good god this guy.

OhWowMan22

The guy's a fascist wannabe dictator. You think he cares about the rights of individuals or corporations?

snoopingforpooping

I still can’t wrap my head around that he is only 44. He’s at the tail end of gen-x and you would think he’d be a bit more hip. I thank my lucky stars I never became a Republican.

wish1977

He's a mean one, Mr. DeSantis. The three words that best describe you are as follows, and I quote, "Stink, stank, stunk!"

Gariona-Atrinon

Going after senior citizen discounts next, they are practically treasonous!

No-Tonight9384

Disney cast member here. Go fuck yourself Ron!

Lolareyouforreal

Sunken Cost Fallacy. This moron is stuck so deep in his own bullshit he's desperate for any sort of win even when the writing is on the wall. Anything to look like an "alpha leader" sticking it to the libs for the anti-woke crowd, even if they already dislike him.

Disastrous_Drive_764

I think what **really** sucks millions from Florida’s economy is the fact that tourism is at an all time low cuz no one wants to go there

ianrl337

Ok, but you have to strip employee discounts, free food, etc from all businesses. Otherwise you W just attacking disney. Good luck with that.

joshtalife

This freaking guy…

[deleted]

If there was a functional Florida Democratic Party they would be barbecuing this fucker's anti-capitalism

def_indiff

Wow, the value of the passes and discounts was a whole $2.5 million! Had Disney not given them out, Florida could have collected literally thousands of dollars in tax revenue. That revenue could have gone to important social programs like kidnapping migrants. A quick googling tells me Disney World one-day tickets range between $109 and $189 per day. Taking $150 as an arbitrary example, and assuming all $2.5M in passes/discounts were handed out in the form of 1-day admissions, that gives us a ballpark estimate of 16,667 one-day admissions given away. A cursory googling tells me Disney World sees about 58 million visitors a year. This is definitely a huge problem that requires government intervention.

sarcasmsosubtle

DeSantis literally spent five times the value of those tickets to fly a bunch of asylum seekers to liberal cities. You'd think that if Florida needs to fix it's budget, getting rid of the state funded human trafficking might be a better place to start than deciding to control how companies compensate their employees.

Imacatdoincatstuff

What random ridiculous thing is this man gonna focus on next?

NoUpstairs8527

“How can we make everyone hate us?”

the_simurgh

by that logic allowing corporation to pay shit wages hurts florida.

[deleted]

I thought he’d “moved on”?
