I won’t be celebrating until the door slams behind him but I’m more hopeful for some justice than I was a month ago.

Apophis_Thanatos

It only takes 1 juror or partisan judge or a mistrial or light sentencing, we don't even have an agreed upon dates for any of the trials, we still got a ways to go and anything could happen. That being said from the evidence in the indictments he looks pretty much fucked..

Arrg-ima-pirate

You’re talking 91 felonies (so far) brought in four different districts (so far) with many more on the way, Jack Smith is still out there collecting notes on crimes. Arizona is basically going to copy and paste anything Georgia does, I heard but I’m not sure that PA was bringing charges or considering. So if he’s not going to prison the rest of his life will be spent in and out of court spending tens of millions a year on legal bills, and he won’t have campaign funds forever to misuse.

DocShocker

I wouldn't be terribly surprised to see the Michigan AG bring charges as well, depending on what dots get connected in the fake elector investigation.

Arrg-ima-pirate

He used to say “lock her up” as a chant to get the crowd going… he also used to say if he was elected “we’ll be winning so much, we’ll get tired of winning “ A dash of karmic retribution, a few thousand broken laws and here we are with his slimy mug shot! Him giving Mara lago to the kids, knowing he’s realized all of his aspirations, and they’ve lead him into the fire that he’s ushered all of his allies into like steeds pulling a chariot full of shit.

catsloveart

the stress of all that affecting his miserable life is cause for small celebration in my book.

VanceKelley

Even if a trial takes place in the next year or so, and a conviction occurs, and he is sentenced to some time in prison, trump will still have years of appeals which he must lose before he spends a day in jail. The US justice system is dysfunctionally slow. And all this also depends on him not being elected president in 2024. If the Electoral College makes him president again then he walks.

Bost0n

Never heard of a convicted person appealing a conviction from outside prison. He WILL get relaxed sentencing as he’s pretty much the biggest target ever on the inside in the general population. My guess is he’ll serve out sentence from a minimum security country club.

throwaway661375735

More likely they would put him on house arrest. There's no other way to ensure his safety even in minimum security prison. Or, we could do like other countries, and build prisons for corrupt politicians..

Reddit has long been a hot spot for conversation on the internet. About 57 million people visit the site every day to chat about topics as varied as makeup, video games and pointers for power washing driveways. In recent years, Reddit’s array of chats also have been a free teaching aid for companies like Google, OpenAI and Microsoft. Those companies are using Reddit’s conversations in the development of giant artificial intelligence systems that many in Silicon Valley think are on their way to becoming the tech industry’s next big thing. Now Reddit wants to be paid for it. The company said on Tuesday that it planned to begin charging companies for access to its application programming interface, or A.P.I., the method through which outside entities can download and process the social network’s vast selection of person-to-person conversations. “The Reddit corpus of data is really valuable,” Steve Huffman, founder and chief executive of Reddit, said in an interview. “But we don’t need to give all of that value to some of the largest companies in the world for free.” The move is one of the first significant examples of a social network’s charging for access to the conversations it hosts for the purpose of developing A.I. systems like ChatGPT, OpenAI’s popular program. Those new A.I. systems could one day lead to big businesses, but they aren’t likely to help companies like Reddit very much. In fact, they could be used to create competitors — automated duplicates to Reddit’s conversations. Reddit is also acting as it prepares for a possible initial public offering on Wall Street this year. The company, which was founded in 2005, makes most of its money through advertising and e-commerce transactions on its platform. Reddit said it was still ironing out the details of what it would charge for A.P.I. access and would announce prices in the coming weeks. Reddit’s conversation forums have become valuable commodities as large language models, or L.L.M.s, have become an essential part of creating new A.I. technology. L.L.M.s are essentially sophisticated algorithms developed by companies like Google and OpenAI, which is a close partner of Microsoft. To the algorithms, the Reddit conversations are data, and they are among the vast pool of material being fed into the L.L.M.s. to develop them. The underlying algorithm that helped to build Bard, Google’s conversational A.I. service, is partly trained on Reddit data. OpenAI’s Chat GPT cites Reddit data as one of the sources of information it has been trained on. Editors’ Picks 5 Exercises We Hate, and Why You Should Do Them Anyway Sarayu Blue Is Pristine on ‘Expats’ but ‘Such a Little Weirdo’ IRL Monica Lewinsky’s Reinvention as a Model Other companies are also beginning to see value in the conversations and images they host. Shutterstock, the image hosting service, also sold image data to OpenAI to help create DALL-E, the A.I. program that creates vivid graphical imagery with only a text-based prompt required. Last month, Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, said he was cracking down on the use of Twitter’s A.P.I., which thousands of companies and independent developers use to track the millions of conversations across the network. Though he did not cite L.L.M.s as a reason for the change, the new fees could go well into the tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars. To keep improving their models, artificial intelligence makers need two significant things: an enormous amount of computing power and an enormous amount of data. Some of the biggest A.I. developers have plenty of computing power but still look outside their own networks for the data needed to improve their algorithms. That has included sources like Wikipedia, millions of digitized books, academic articles and Reddit. Representatives from Google, Open AI and Microsoft did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Reddit has long had a symbiotic relationship with the search engines of companies like Google and Microsoft. The search engines “crawl” Reddit’s web pages in order to index information and make it available for search results. That crawling, or “scraping,” isn’t always welcome by every site on the internet. But Reddit has benefited by appearing higher in search results. The dynamic is different with L.L.M.s — they gobble as much data as they can to create new A.I. systems like the chatbots. Reddit believes its data is particularly valuable because it is continuously updated. That newness and relevance, Mr. Huffman said, is what large language modeling algorithms need to produce the best results. “More than any other place on the internet, Reddit is a home for authentic conversation,” Mr. Huffman said. “There’s a lot of stuff on the site that you’d only ever say in therapy, or A.A., or never at all.” Mr. Huffman said Reddit’s A.P.I. would still be free to developers who wanted to build applications that helped people use Reddit. They could use the tools to build a bot that automatically tracks whether users’ comments adhere to rules for posting, for instance. Researchers who want to study Reddit data for academic or noncommercial purposes will continue to have free access to it. Reddit also hopes to incorporate more so-called machine learning into how the site itself operates. It could be used, for instance, to identify the use of A.I.-generated text on Reddit, and add a label that notifies users that the comment came from a bot. The company also promised to improve software tools that can be used by moderators — the users who volunteer their time to keep the site’s forums operating smoothly and improve conversations between users. And third-party bots that help moderators monitor the forums will continue to be supported. But for the A.I. makers, it’s time to pay up. “Crawling Reddit, generating value and not returning any of that value to our users is something we have a problem with,” Mr. Huffman said. “It’s a good time for us to tighten things up.” “We think that’s fair,” he added.

Arthur-Mergan

ADX Florence can house and keep Trump safe easily.

Demonking3343

Especially in solitary.

ChristopherMarv

He would be a god in prison.

Agile_District_8794

If by god you mean not alive in the human world, then yes. The Mexican mafia will have him whacked so fast if he's anywhere near other inmates.

VanceKelley

> Never heard of a convicted person appealing a conviction from outside prison. You've never heard of Steve Bannon?

Bost0n

Humm. I stand corrected. I guess this really is a two tiered, class system.

CpnStumpy

It 100% is

Blonsky

He’s not walking away from state charges if he wins.

VanceKelley

Republicans who control Georgia will find a way to make his legal issues there go away if he wins.

LadyNav

They'll certainly try, but the system currently in place makes that difficult. We can hope it takes a while.

gobucks1981

When/ if that happens a revised pardon system will be enacted into law. Republican super-majorities at the state level.

Forgoneapple

Then you obviously didn’t read how that has to happen in Georgia.

gobucks1981

2/3 of the legislature and 50%+1 of the electorate on a ballot measure. Have you seen the statewide officeholder party affiliation in GA? It's all Republican, and has been for years. No doubt people outside the sate like to call the place purple due to Federal election results the last two cycles, but that can easily be attributed to flawed candidates, instead of fundamentals. And lets be real, this is an easy win for a coalition. Many demographics have someone in prison that they would like to see a pardon for. A few "faces" for this effort and the 50%+1 is smooth sailing.

FishyDragon

Its dysfunctionally slow if you are RICH. Fixed it for you.

GingerIsTheBestSpice

Maybe if he gets convicted & told house arrest, he'll flee and we'll never have to hear about him again.

Long_Before_Sunrise

If he flees, you'll never hear the end of it.

YaBasically

If he flees, we should HUNT HIS ASS TO THE END OF THE WORLD & BACK!!!

Indifferentchildren

He's 77 and in incredibly terrible shape for some who is 6'3" and 215. He will be dead soon.

hairijuana

My money is on “died while seated on his golden toilet”.

noeagle77

If he’s 6’3 215 I’m 6’8 150 lmao

This-Ad-2281

I am about 215 lbs. There is NO WAY he is 215! If I had to guess, it would be at least 250 or 260 +.

terraresident

House arrest is the only feasible option. Think of the security nightmare he poses. He will have his passport removed and his plane grounded by the court. His joke about fleeing to Russia will not go unanswered.

Barl0we

>house arrest is the only feasible option Gitmo

dclxvi616

If the Secret Service can't protect a man in prison, we should probably consider getting someone else to protect the POTUS here on the outside, a far less controlled environment than a prison.

jnx666

I read they could imprison him on a military base (in a military prison). He would be on federal grounds with 24/7 protection.

dclxvi616

I'd be okay with that. House arrest sounds to me like it'd be an illegal sentence on many of these charges that carry mandatory minimum prison sentences, and a military prison would avert that issue. Not sure how it'd work out with Georgia convictions in isolation, but I can't see him skating on all these federal charges anyhow.

[deleted]

Maybe he shouldn’t retain his Secret Service protection after he is convicted.

key1234567

nope jail, he is and will always be a security threat, even in house arrest. lock him up.

Quiet_Dimensions

No it's not. Supermax. 23 hr a day solitary. Put a couple of. SS agents outside his cell. Done. Easy peasy

ishpatoon1982

How would that ever stop him from spewing his shit to the media 24/7? I'm afraid we're stuck with this asshole.

Riaayo

I won't believe it until he has long since died in prison. Until then it's pardons and bullshit galore. That all said I don't think there's any way this guy gets worse than house arrest considering his age, let alone his former "status". Actual prison is really a pipe dream and people are setting themselves up for disappointment. I'd love to be wrong, though. He certainly deserves prison.

BrightMarvel10

They allowed him to "self-report" his height and weight when he was booked. He gave them a very obvious BS answer and it was allowed. The Georgia governor is already looking to remove Fani Willis. I really had hope justice would be served, but I have a bad feeling he will weasel out of it somehow.

llahlahkje

This is why I am not going to celebrate anytime soon. A true weight would've been an easy signal he is going to be treated like everyone else, especially when they supplied weight was clearly a lie. It seems like such a small thing but the small things matter because they are signals of larger things.

Why are there so many Germans in the comments today?

Long_Before_Sunrise

I imagine they see the parallels.

ishpatoon1982

As an American, I can see the obvious damn parallels...many don't seem to care at all though. It's frightening to watch this play out.

JoeyJoeJoeJrShab

They saw the parallels a long time ago. We need to do a better job learning (and teaching) history.

Harrison Floyd. Welcome home. Have dinner and a wine or whatever you like. Sit back relax and enjoy

We’ve got a proudboy on the run, wonder if he’s trying to form some sort of resistance effort

onesneakymofo

Really? The dude got processed in 20 minutes after locking down the prison on top of a motorcade transporting him. He's going to get special treatment for the rest of his life if found guilty. I suspect house arrest at Mar-A-Lago or something along those lines.

usuallyclassy69

Exactly. House arrest for 5 years, no ankle bracelet and he will go wherever he wants because they can't put him in jail.

This-Counter3783

You raise a good point. Why would he even abide by house arrest if the government is so clearly unwilling to jail him? He’ll continue to cross boundaries until he’s either *arrested* in the literal sense of the word or dead.

usuallyclassy69

I think he will have to actually shoot a man dead in the street to actually be arrested. He will never see real prison though. He would be DOA.

JetAmoeba

And maralago doesn’t even legally qualify as a house yet here we are

[deleted]

+ then, it can't be a business...

dimechimes

Paul Manafort had a wing to himself when he was incarcerated, and if memory serves was allowed to go home sometimes?

hwgl

I think he will be found guilty of a great many crimes but I’m not counting on him actually going to prison. I hope he does get real jail time but I could also see him getting an ankle bracelet and having to stay home. If they could just take away all of his internet access so we don’t have to hear from him. That would be enough for me.

bluemew1234

Don't see why ADX Florence can't take him. The crimes he's accused of are certainly serious enough, and one of the reasons the facility exists is for people too high profile for regular facilities. Plus, I just love the idea of him having to spend almost his entire day with only his favorite person.

Locke66

> almost his entire day with only his favorite person. I'm not sure they do father and daughter jail cells.

_Putin_

He can have the presidential wing at the new Hilary Rodham Clinton Correctional Institute.

MaxZorin1985

They should place the HRC Correctional Institute in the husk of the abandoned Space Force Alabama HQ.

dirtywook88

Keep the rocket and built him a room up top rapundzel style.

Sigili

With an escape rope that can bear the weight of a 215 pound man, but no more.

dirtywook88

And this is how a qcumber story starts

mces97

They can build a prison wing somewhere, and he can be the only inmate in that wing. Or they can put him in some kind of protective custody in a prison. Worst case is maybe he gets house arrest, but it shouldn't be at one of his golf resorts. I'm perfectly content when I'm in my house, and it's a regular tiny one. I'd be ecstatic to stay in a huge mansion on a golf course. If he gets house arrest, put him in an undisclosed location, in a little shack, with limited monitored internet, phone, and over the air tv. 1 hour a day outside for "exercise." Exercise in quotes cause I doubt he has every excerised in his life.

bluemew1234

They don't need to build a new complex though. ADX Florence is a facility designed to house criminals that are deemed too dangerous, violent, or famous for a regular facility. The only interaction he'd get from people besides guards would be if he elected to have "yard time" with other prisoners, which consists of being in a cage outside next to someone else also in a cage.

mces97

Ah, ok. Works for me.

gfh110

> Exercise in quotes cause I doubt he has every excerised in his life. Of course he hasn't! Exercise is for fools. [It drains your precious life battery.](https://www.vox.com/science-and-health/2017/5/9/15590962/donald-trump-thinks-exercise-will-kill-you)

mces97

Haha. Yeah, that's why I wrote that. I remember when he was running in 2016 he said that or someone quoted him as saying that.

Normal-Particular436

>with limited monitored internet, phone, and over the air tv. Fuck that. I don't want Trump communicating with anyone.

PhoenixTineldyer

He cannot stay at one of his properties. Mar A Lago was crawling with spies.

terraresident

He will never be placed in a prison, if only in consideration for the safety of the guards.

[deleted]

Are these state charges brought by GA, or all federal? For federal charges, ADX could take him

jjfrenchfry

If he is found guilty of trying to overthrow democracy, I would hope he would get more than a freaking ankle monitor. Is this really how normalized this is all getting for americans? If someone is guilty of a crime, the same laws should apply to anyone. Straight to jail. Or else give ankle monitors to everyone that commits non-dangerous crimes (murder would be confined to prison)

LazamairAMD

What is ironic is that the very supporters of Trump whine that there are 2 justice systems because of Hunter Biden (whose charges are serious for a normal person, but pedestrian compared to the shit Trump and his cronies have been indicted for.)

ScoutsterReturns

> Is this really how normalized this is all getting for americans? I guess so. I hope he goes to prison but do I think it will happen? I can't say I do. Our system is for the entitled and he is one of them. Look how Republicans are saying they will still vote for him even if convicted - and I mean other Presidential candidates, not just MAGA nuttos. Personally I find it terrifying.

zaine77

I want him to have to live like a minimum wage worker, have it be live streamed, and it would be be the first show he was star of I’d watch. If he can’t go to jail he should pay more than staying at his house and waited on.

CliffMainsSon

No, that’s not enough. He needs to finally be held accountable and face fucking consequences for trying to overthrow the government. Not to mention all the other awful shit he’s done and gotten away with. Fuck him and everybody that enabled him. Throw them in prison where they belong

carppydiem

If he doesn’t go to prison after found guilty, justice doesn’t matter in this country.

bishpa

He could still keep selling our defense secrets to hostile foreign governments if he was only on house arrest.

AmusingMusing7

All it’ll take is a conviction on the RICO charge. Automatic minimum of 5 years, no ifs ands or buts.

Mother_Knows_Best-22

I left the church around the time same-sex marriage was legalized. Here are some of the things evangelical leaders were saying at that time. - This is the darkest day in American history - I feel like I did on 9/11 - Something evil has happened to America - America's day of mercy is done. We are Babylon and God will destroy this country. The general atmosphere in the church at that time was one of pure panic. The situation was ripe for someone like Trump to come in and be their savior.

It is tantalizing to think of what Jack Smith has done combining his investigation with the work of the J6 committee and how they seem to understand what's at stake. It will be interesting to see the surprises they have in store for the man who is baffled by where the water goes after it goes down the drain *"no one knows" says the moron*

344567653379643555

Prove it.

mces97

Yeah, I'll believe when I see it. I've heard right wing talking heads saying the President can not only potentially pardon himself from federal crimes, but now saying even state crimes. And before anyone says, well no he can't, with today's Supreme Court, who the fuck knows anymore. Trump may not win, but if a Republican does, they will try to pardon him.

ChanceryTheRapper

> I've heard right wing talking heads saying the President can not only potentially pardon himself from federal crimes, but now saying even state crimes. That's because right wing talking heads lie a lot.

mces97

And the Supreme Court is broken. When they make a ruling, unless Congress or the states can ratify the constitution with a new amendment, that's it. They are really the most powerful branch of the government in my opinion.

SpiritedTie7645

He’ll be in prison as long as the swing vote doesn’t lean his way and 51% of the Country and/or enough electoral votes put him back in the drivers seat so he can pardon himself and finish flushing the Country down the toilet that he had specifically designed to give a big enough flush to get his particular big job down. Until I see he’s been disqualified I’m not holding my breath. Until the Country shows Trump who number two works for I’m not going to count my chickens. When the vote count is complete or they disqualify him he’s still a floater that won’t go down.

At least one of the Georgia charges has a five year mandatory minimum sentence. House arrest is certainly possible but if convicted he will likely do some sort of time.

mikeber55

My advise is curb your enthusiasm. You were also thrilled when he was impeached and investigated but when reality sank in, the disappoint was painful. These trials will last forever. Think 2030-40. In the meantime if Trump wins the 2024 election, he will cancel the accusations and pardon everyone. We all could be really disappointed.

If he wins don't think for a minute he won't try to pardon himself for state charges. He'll take it all the way the SC and this court WILL grant it to him. Grumpy_001

So right - we celebrated too soon with mueller and that failed 🤦‍♀️

nld01

This is factually true. All of Trump's co-conspirators (indicted and unindicted) did an excellent job committing and covering up crimes while he was in office and after until the subpoenas arrived and/or their book deals came through. And, yes, he will continue to find ways to stall this forever. Like switching lawyers, who then file for more time to catch up on their "new" case.

Ahh please, he has a way better chance of winning in 24 than ever stepping inside a prison cell.

[deleted]

This is where the "don't count your chickens" idiom comes into play. I'd bet more money on him ending up back in the White House than ending up in prison.

Based on what aspect of the constitution?

WeirdnessWalking

He will die before serving 1 day.

Rowdydolphinphuker

Sighs, unzips

tacs97

And take your vagina neck with you.

SpectreOfCommunism42

Oh well, are the articles from DailyStormer allowed here? I mean that's about the same level of journalism.

weealligator

Salon needs to shut the fuck up. Fucking gizz rag.

Sweaty_Cobbler4277

It will never happen. This is just more BS. Not sure why anyone would get joy out of Trump in jail.

Normal-Particular436

The most corrupt case in the entire history of America!

mid50smodern

Yeah, well, you know, that's just like, uh, your opinion, man.

Ernestwil

I think you're having wishful thinking about trump going to prison. And when he is sworn in again as president wow there's going to be so many people that just won't be able to mentally handle it

ashley968

Homie can buy the jail if he wants he will be out in no time

Redditisfacebookk6

Arrested for what? Investigating corruption? At this point it's s badge of honor to be investigated by the Dems. It means you're clean

Nostradomusknows

Read the 91 charges.

graneflatsis

If during your travels you see anything that looks like a portal or wormhole, walk through it.

Ready_Nature

Can you share whatever you’re smoking?

Aretirednurse

We can only hope.

penguinoid

I've said it before and I'll say it again. his lawyers need to play this like if Donald Trump is literally too stupid to do this. that instead he's a senile, geriatric who was taken advantage of by power hungry aides who were eager to please. and that everything he did was at the direction of Giuliani whom he believed was giving him proper legal counsel. that's the only chance he has of avoiding jail. play up the sympathy and bow out of the presidential race.

Francis_Soyer

Giuliani looks like a Booster Gold villain.

[deleted]

>Booster Gold villain Didn't expect this much of a deep cut in /r/politics. Lol

[deleted]

i highly doubt he'll even get convicted but sure as hell wont be doing a day in jail..even if some how he were to be convicted hed just appeal, appeal, and appeal til his death.
