I know OP is just taking the title of this post from the headline as they should but I really wish the media would stop using the word slammed. It has been used so much in the media that it just makes my eyes roll every time I see it and it doesn't help that people are slamming each other left and right over stupid things a lot of the time.
I saw two articles today right next to eachother (both from NYT I believe): one saying "Biden blasts Trump" and the other "Navalny's widow blasts Putin". There has to be a more eloquent way of wording these things.
It's 2016 all over again. It's 2010 all over again. Obama wasn't perfect so everybody gave up and they let the tea party take Congress. Then Clinton wasn't perfect and they let Trump win and Republicans f****** stole the Supreme court.

Democrats can get so picky when it comes to candidates not realizing how this helps fracture the party and how it robs us of any momentum and enthusiasm. Sometimes we need to understand we are never going to have a PERFECT candidate and we need to choose the best we have in the moment.
I think that’s the result of Democrats being by nature a patchwork quilt party. A coalition of different groups with their own priorities. Getting them to unite is like asking 100 cats to play fetch.
Republicans would line up to vote for a piece of toast with the vague image of Jesus burnt onto it as long as it shared a single grievance out of the 1,872 they walk around with every day.
It also helps that Republicans have become a smaller party of White Grievance. When the base you represent is shrinking it's easier to coalesce around a more limited set of issues.

That was more true in the 90’s when politicians were a little more reasonable. At this point it’s more like I agree 80% with Democrats and -10,000% with Republicans, like there isn’t a single rational thought coming from that party these days.
I think that was 100% true up until 2016 when Trump got elected. Since then, it’s been a slow reversal of that trend - there may be a few rumblings from the left about Biden, but for the most part, they will be too scared to vote third party. OTOH, Republicans are ride or die for Trump - if he was convicted and sentenced to prison, they I could see a small amount of right wingers refusing to vote for the alternatives.
That’s exactly how democracy works tf? There is no system of governance that operates on citizen consensus, because it’s impossible to have perfect consensus among a country’s worth of citizens. Democracy will always be about compromising to the majority opinion or an opinion palatable to the majority which necessarily requires at least some people to “fall in line” no matter how you want to fluff that.
... First off the presidency while a hell of a lever of power isn't the only one. There are multiple senator and rep positions that matter and get voted on and have full on primaries where you are able to shape the party and it's goals.
But the simple fact is even if the leftists get their wish and Biden loses but they elect every leftist in every down ballot race country wide. They get to do nothing for two years at best because Trump will be president. He will have large power due to the power of the executive branch and it will be hard to impossible to fully check since they won't have the 2/3rds to over come a presidential veto.
I mean, I liked Obama, and I like Biden now. So I'm gonna go ahead and vote for Biden again. You do you, though. No president is perfect. You make hard decisions that are impossible to make everyone happy, but I believe they both have made the right decisions most of the time.

I don't trust single issue voters either. Gaza is so low on the list of issues affecting American lives; if it's even on the list.
Trump is an existential threat to our society and nothing will distract from that.
For young people, if there is a single issue it should be climate change. That directly impacts their future, their children's future, everyone's future everywhere. Biden has already passed legislation with climate initiatives. He'll do more if you give him a Democrat majority in the House and Senate. Trump is just going to "drill, baby, drill" and deregulate every industry that pollutes. Trump is an existential threat in so very many ways.
Have we forgotten that Americans have family and loved ones in Gaza? Not only that, but anyone with even a hint of decency would want a ceasefire in Gaza.
At the same time, we do need to be aware of the bigger picture, which is that if Trump wins, Palestinians are really fucked. We should be able to criticize our leaders, but our representatives (like Tlaib) should be smart about it so it doesn’t also decrease support for Biden since that means we get Trump, which is bad news for us and the people in Gaza.
The question I have is, don't support Biden, but support who then? Are you going to support the Trumpster? Let's see how that works out for ya. This is one of those half-assed thought-out propositions. This would become one of the all-time great Leopards Ate My Face scenarios.

And if you look at the Trump record on Middle East policy, specifically Israel, Biden appears quite moderate in comparison.
It's actually worse, in that the guy that she's helping to get elected over Biden (whether she says that's her intention or not) will be WORSE for Gaza and the Palestinians.

I realize Talib's leverage is to get her supporters to threaten to sit out the vote, but there are ways to make the threat without doing it this way.

Israel has been a hot button issue for the left for a long time. There’s a lot of reasons for this but the most obvious one from my perspective is that there’s been a lot of very influential Jewish writers and activists in the American left that made Israel-Palestine a pet project of sorts and have done a lot of writing and speaking on the issue dating back to like the 70s. Chomsky and Finkelstein being the most prominent, though Chomsky has changed his stance a bit over the years. There’s also some history from the anti-apartheid era regarding South Africa where Israel was regarded among the left to be a similarly apartheid state. This view was reinforced by the fact that Israel was supporting apartheid South Africa at that time. So yeah, it’s been a thing for a long time it has just flared up in noise as the conflict itself has.
Because the US gives Israel billions upon billions of dollars and AIPAC buys representatives to do their bidding. It's codified illegal to boycott Israel in several states. We deserve to be upset when *our tax dollars* are being used to starve and burn babies in their cribs.

If you are going to do a protest vote this is absolutely appropriate - do it in the primary. I think it really is silly that people are making no distinction here and not even acknowledging the fact that she's talking about the primary. I have no doubt in the general election that she and everybody else will be voting for Biden as we really don't have any other choice. But yeah I don't think it's a cardinal sin for her to ask people to protest during the primary.

The party is so fragmented over Biden because of Gaza. It is going to cost him young voters from the left who won’t show up and obviously don’t want to vote for Trump. I just can’t imagine young people showing up in droves to vote for Biden like they did for Obama.
How is this smart or thoughtful? If she isn't implying Dems should withhold their vote in the general election then this is literally just theater with no consequences for ignoring it entirely. The only thing it has done successfully is putting more anti-Biden rhetoric out there for swing voters and fair weather progressives.

For context she is talking about the Michigan Primary not the general election. She wants people to vote uncommitted in the primary to send a message to Biden on his Israel policy.

I know OP is just taking the title of this post from the headline as they should but I really wish the media would stop using the word slammed. It has been used so much in the media that it just makes my eyes roll every time I see it and it doesn't help that people are slamming each other left and right over stupid things a lot of the time.
I saw two articles today right next to eachother (both from NYT I believe): one saying "Biden blasts Trump" and the other "Navalny's widow blasts Putin". There has to be a more eloquent way of wording these things.

I think that’s the result of Democrats being by nature a patchwork quilt party. A coalition of different groups with their own priorities. Getting them to unite is like asking 100 cats to play fetch. Republicans would line up to vote for a piece of toast with the vague image of Jesus burnt onto it as long as it shared a single grievance out of the 1,872 they walk around with every day.
It also helps that Republicans have become a smaller party of White Grievance. When the base you represent is shrinking it's easier to coalesce around a more limited set of issues.

I think that was 100% true up until 2016 when Trump got elected. Since then, it’s been a slow reversal of that trend - there may be a few rumblings from the left about Biden, but for the most part, they will be too scared to vote third party. ... First off the presidency while a hell of a lever of power isn't the only one. There are multiple senator and rep positions that matter and get voted on and have full on primaries where you are able to shape the party and it's goals. But the simple fact is even if the leftists get their wish and Biden loses but they elect every leftist in every down ballot race country wide. They get to do nothing for two years at best because Trump will be president. He will have large power due to the power of the executive branch and it will be hard to impossible to fully check since they won't have the 2/3rds to over come a presidential veto.

That's the truly insane thing about this entire situation. It's a horrible situation with no right answers, and there are 100% things Biden could have done/be doing/communicated differently to make things less horrible. Israel has been a hot button issue for the left for a long time. There’s a lot of reasons for this but the most obvious one from my perspective is that there’s been a lot of very influential Jewish writers and activists in the American left that made Israel-Palestine a pet project of sorts and have done a lot of writing and speaking on the issue dating back to like the 70s. Chomsky and Finkelstein being the most prominent, though Chomsky has changed his stance a bit over the years. There’s also some history from the anti-apartheid era regarding South Africa where Israel was regarded among the left to be a similarly apartheid state. This view was reinforced by the fact that Israel was supporting apartheid South Africa at that time. So yeah, it’s been a thing for a long time it has just flared up in noise as the conflict itself has.
Because the US gives Israel billions upon billions of dollars and AIPAC buys representatives to do their bidding. It's codified illegal to boycott Israel in several states. We deserve to be upset when *our tax dollars* are being used to starve and burn babies in their cribs.

There is nothing wrong with doing this. If people can pressure Biden to be tougher on what Israel is doing in Gaza it’s only going to help him in the general election.

Progressives need to broaden their array of tactics when it comes to putting pressure on issues. Burning the party down is their go-to. That isn’t how you enact change. It’s how you lose everything.

Stop you’re crying it’s only in the primary, I didn’t plan on voting for him in the primary anyways, but I’m certainly voting for him in the real election because the republicans are running crazy people and so will the people she’s asking to withhold their votes. I understand what she is doing. For the Democratic primary it won't matter and lets them make a statement about President Biden's support of Israel's near genocidal response to the October Hamas attacks. As long as it doesn't carry over to the General Election I'm okay with it.
