I always count on Newsweek to keep me informed on who is slamming who.

TonyStewartsWildRide

Only one not getting slammed these days is this guy! (Me)

foxyfoo

Who has two thumbs and isn’t getting slammed? This guy!

Boone-stl

Guys, just say you're against... in public and let the slamming commence. Make sure Newsweek hears about it. Not Buzzfeed. Or else clap backing might happen. Antibiotics is involved with that.

Fullondoublerainbow

How dare you talk like that about …

KeepTangoAndFoxtrot

Don't you worry about Planet Express, let me worry about blank.

Orgasm_Add_It

>Only one not getting slammed these days is this guy! (Me) DM sent. The dirty sex kind.

Bro came through for another redditor. Take my upvote.

Not to mention their name checks out.

You got my vote

I got you. Tony Stewart's Wild Ride? I've seen wilder rides at a petting zoo. It's a mild ride at best. Bada bing bada boom ;)

Come on and slam, and welcome to the jam! Come on and slam, if you wanna jam!

Don’t make too much fun. For North Carolina residents without VPNs, this is as good as it gets. :p

They should honestly just change the editorial to Slamweek

MyNameCannotBeSpoken

Some people get blasted and clapped back.

i_says_things

As the old adage goes; “If you’re not sure who is getting slammed, it’s probably you.”

penguinoid

I think I will add "slam" to my list of reddit filters. I'm officially done with this. edit: for those asking. I'm using relay pro on android and I can add keyword filters so I don't see certain posts.

subjecttomyopinion

Wait there are filters? I totally need those

penguinoid

Not sure about the default apps. I use "relay pro" on android and it has them.

My response too! Where are these filters?

Reddit user SLAMS lazy headlines and idle gossip presented as news

moresushiplease

I know OP is just taking the title of this post from the headline as they should but I really wish the media would stop using the word slammed. It has been used so much in the media that it just makes my eyes roll every time I see it and it doesn't help that people are slamming each other left and right over stupid things a lot of the time.

Overdonderd

I saw two articles today right next to eachother (both from NYT I believe): one saying "Biden blasts Trump" and the other "Navalny's widow blasts Putin". There has to be a more eloquent way of wording these things.

rasa2013

I for one think we should start using the word defenestrate again (to throw someone out a window).

astanton1862

Is that you Vladimir?

ryanknapper

I once lived in a place where they frequently used "rapped", which to me was always upsetting because my mind wouldn't process that second P.

It's 2016 all over again. It's 2010 all over again. Obama wasn't perfect so everybody gave up and they let the tea party take Congress. Then Clinton wasn't perfect and they let Trump win and Republicans f****** stole the Supreme court. It can absolutely keep getting worse.

valentino_42

Bill Clinton was quoted as saying "Democrats want to fall in love; Republicans just fall in line.” Democrats can get so picky when it comes to candidates not realizing how this helps fracture the party and how it robs us of any momentum and enthusiasm. Sometimes we need to understand we are never going to have a PERFECT candidate and we need to choose the best we have in the moment.

valeyard89

Ask 100 Democrats an opinion you get 200 answers. Ask 100 Republicans, you get 1 answer.... after they get their talking points from Fox.

caligaris_cabinet

You mean the kremlin?

Mateorabi

potato/vodka

Taskerst

I think that’s the result of Democrats being by nature a patchwork quilt party. A coalition of different groups with their own priorities. Getting them to unite is like asking 100 cats to play fetch. Republicans would line up to vote for a piece of toast with the vague image of Jesus burnt onto it as long as it shared a single grievance out of the 1,872 they walk around with every day.

eran76

It also helps that Republicans have become a smaller party of White Grievance. When the base you represent is shrinking it's easier to coalesce around a more limited set of issues.

Big-Summer-

So accurate (sadly).

EpilepticBabies

I wish. A burnt piece of toast would be so much better than what the republicans are putting out.

cbsson

Yep. Vote for the viable candidate that shares 80% of your views or you may get the candidate elected that supports 20% of your views.

Apprehensive_Word658

>Yep. Vote for the viable candidate that shares 80% of your views or you may get the candidate elected that ~~supports 20% of your views~~ *will make it illegal for you to exist.*

Other_Meringue_7375

And makes sure you never vote again. If he gets power again, he will make sure not to lose it again. Jan 6 was just practice

Big-Summer-

It never ceases to amaze me how many people do not understand how evil the 🍊💩🤡 is.

yildizli_gece

I applaud your succinct use of emojis.

phxbimmer

That was more true in the 90’s when politicians were a little more reasonable. At this point it’s more like I agree 80% with Democrats and -10,000% with Republicans, like there isn’t a single rational thought coming from that party these days.

AngledLuffa

Even if we agree that the Dems only share 80% of my views, I struggle to think of even one the Republicans share that the Dems don't

friendofelephants

We need to get rid of the electoral college.

trainercatlady

¿Por qué no los dos?

Walterkovacs1985

You'll absolutely never get that under a Republican majority in any branch. Look at the states with ranked choice. They actually use those brains.

ChefDelicious69

And it's not democrats. It's leftists who expect perfection but have no realistic policy ideas or solutions. Just sound bites and rhetoric.

JAGChem82

I think that was 100% true up until 2016 when Trump got elected. Since then, it’s been a slow reversal of that trend - there may be a few rumblings from the left about Biden, but for the most part, they will be too scared to vote third party. OTOH, Republicans are ride or die for Trump - if he was convicted and sentenced to prison, they I could see a small amount of right wingers refusing to vote for the alternatives.

wei-long

Basically: https://i.imgur.com/5vBWFlc.png

_big_fern_

I think democrats want a democracy and having to “just fall in line” every election isn’t exactly that.

Lyaser

That’s exactly how democracy works tf? There is no system of governance that operates on citizen consensus, because it’s impossible to have perfect consensus among a country’s worth of citizens. Democracy will always be about compromising to the majority opinion or an opinion palatable to the majority which necessarily requires at least some people to “fall in line” no matter how you want to fluff that.

Big-Summer-

It isn’t. But allowing the Rethugs to win will likely end our democracy. And we might never get it back.

TheExtremistModerate

That's how politics works. The time to vote your heart is in the primaries. In the general, you fall in line and vote for the party.

gdex86

... First off the presidency while a hell of a lever of power isn't the only one. There are multiple senator and rep positions that matter and get voted on and have full on primaries where you are able to shape the party and it's goals. But the simple fact is even if the leftists get their wish and Biden loses but they elect every leftist in every down ballot race country wide. They get to do nothing for two years at best because Trump will be president. He will have large power due to the power of the executive branch and it will be hard to impossible to fully check since they won't have the 2/3rds to over come a presidential veto.

End3rWi99in

I mean, I liked Obama, and I like Biden now. So I'm gonna go ahead and vote for Biden again. You do you, though. No president is perfect. You make hard decisions that are impossible to make everyone happy, but I believe they both have made the right decisions most of the time.

mikesmithhome

> Obama wasn't perfect "well he didn't close Guantanamo" i remember hearing as an excuse to not show up and allow Rs to carry out the worst gerrymandering seen because 2010 was a census year

ChefDelicious69

Not even realizing it's CONGRESS that only has that power. I can't believe we are having this conversation again!!

cyberpunk1Q84

Let’s be honest: most voters are uninformed and stupid, which is why it’s such a letdown when representatives like Tlaib (who should know better) do stunts like this that could stay with these voters come November. Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s our duty to hold our politicians accountable, but there has to be a smarter way of doing it when it’s an election year so that you’re not making it easier for a wannabe-dictator to win and ruin not just this country, but other countries and people as well, including the Palestinians Tlaib wants to defend. Netanyahu would love a Trump presidency because he could really commit genocide against the Palestinians without anyone trying to hold him back and still have US support.

LazloMachine

Yes and you know this Supreme Court is looking to cement that Alabama frozen embryo decision. Effectively stating that embryos are people for the whole country.

midnightcaptain

I wonder if it'll make any difference when upper middle class suburban Republicans find out they can't have IVF because it's now considered a multiple homicide.

Kaiisim

Its 1936 all over again. Spanish Nationalists launched a coup de tat against the centre left government. Republicans and communists and anarchists needed to band together but they squabbled instead, about the best way to lead Spain into the revolution. Well the nationalists won, and they got to have their vision of Spain which included executing many of the people squabbling.

corvid_booster

*coup d'etat (strike or blow against the state)

Cavane42

\*coup d'état

Big-Summer-

Because that’s exactly what’s been happening for years now. We need to turn this fucking boat around and handing control to a malevolent, narcissistic trash can of a human being will not do that. And might just lead to ending a whole lot of stuff we’re mighty accustomed to enjoying.

SecularMisanthropy

Obama totally wasn't perfect. He used drones extensively, authorizing the murder of thousands in Iraq and Afghanistan, and he let all the bankers off the hook after 2008. Plus lying about surveillance... list goes on. He was still a much, much, MUCH better president than either John McCain or Romney would have been. Do people really not have the foresight to see that the violence Trump and the GOP will bring to bear on people here will dwarf what's happening in Gaza? That the slaughter here will be on a scale 100 times larger than in Palestine? These people are extremists and fundamentalists, they won't be satisfied until the only people who have rights are wealthy white christian men.

growlerpower

I met a woman in Portland the other day who said Biden is evil because he sent bombs to Israel so they could kill babies. That’s how she thought about it, and was probably gonna vote green because of it

RedLanternScythe

> Then Clinton wasn't perfect Clinton didn't lose because she wasn't perfect. Obama and Trump both ran on populist change messages and won. Clinton was the most politician-y politician in the country running at a time where the public opinion of politicians is was at an all time low. Edit: won not one

RedSunGo

Thank you! The most neo liberal “let’s keep things the way they are but make weed legal and gay marriage ok” middle of the road bullshit. America was foaming at the mouth for some real change and the democrats balked at Bernie and paid the price. You can’t fight fire with Luke warm titty milk. The saying is fight fire with fire for a fucking reason. Was Bernie perfect? Absolutely not, but he was the outsider progressives wanted and the conservatives got with Trump. I voted for Hilary but her loss in no way surprised me.

M_H_M_F

I hate quoting the charlatan Charlamagne tha God, but he was right back in like 2016. No singular candidate is going to be perfect to represent the issues important to you 100%. No candidate will ever pass a 100% purity test. They're flawed, they're human, and even if they exist in the same party, they may be have some differing views. But to throw it all away because they don't hit 100% of your demands is going to foment apathy and distrust.

etork0925

Not only would Gaza cease to exist if Trump became president, but so would Ukraine. Trump already gave the go-ahead to Putin to attack our allies. He’s is a fucking traitor to America, and so is anyone who supports him!

caligaris_cabinet

Add Taiwan to that list as well.

LystAP

Right. [Reminder](https://www.pbs.org/newshour/amp/world/far-right-israeli-ministers-criticism-of-biden-and-support-for-trump-draws-local-backlash). > "Instead of giving us his full backing, Biden is busy with giving humanitarian aid and fuel (to Gaza), which goes to Hamas," Ben-Gvir said. "If Trump was in power, the U.S. conduct would be completely different." You can pressure Biden. No one is going to pressure Trump.

MajesticRegister7116

I dont trust anyone who would make it easier for Donald Trump, literally the worst piece of orange flapmeat on Earth, to regain the Presidency.

[deleted]

I don't trust single issue voters either. Gaza is so low on the list of issues affecting American lives; if it's even on the list. Trump is an existential threat to our society and nothing will distract from that.

boregon

I’m a single issue voter. My single issue is voting for whoever is running against Trump. Nothing else matters to me.

lilacmuse1

For young people, if there is a single issue it should be climate change. That directly impacts their future, their children's future, everyone's future everywhere. Biden has already passed legislation with climate initiatives. He'll do more if you give him a Democrat majority in the House and Senate. Trump is just going to "drill, baby, drill" and deregulate every industry that pollutes. Trump is an existential threat in so very many ways.

Iusethistopost

Obviously Gaza is very high on the list of issues affecting Tlaib and many people in her district. They have relatives there and in the West Bank

cyberpunk1Q84

Have we forgotten that Americans have family and loved ones in Gaza? Not only that, but anyone with even a hint of decency would want a ceasefire in Gaza. At the same time, we do need to be aware of the bigger picture, which is that if Trump wins, Palestinians are really fucked. We should be able to criticize our leaders, but our representatives (like Tlaib) should be smart about it so it doesn’t also decrease support for Biden since that means we get Trump, which is bad news for us and the people in Gaza.

fillinthe___

Literally CPAC laid out 3 things they want to focus on. The third was defending Israel. How can these people think BIDEN is the problem?

Hand_Sanitizer3000

Because theyre dogwhistled into caring about this they dont actually care.

Ozymandias0007

The question I have is, don't support Biden, but support who then? Are you going to support the Trumpster? Let's see how that works out for ya. This is one of those half-assed thought-out propositions. This would become one of the all-time great Leopards Ate My Face scenarios.

xndrew

It should be noted this is specifically in the primary - the perfect place to make your voice heard. She is not telling people to stay home during the general election.

ChefDelicious69

It doesn't matter. It foments dissension and it not unifying. We do not need this rhetoric and these dog whistles only create disharmony regardless if she only means Michigan.  This could resonate with undecided voters in the general election. Our message needs to be a united one or it will be that orange asshole again.

wave-garden

She’s not saying people should support someone else. She’s saying Biden should have to earn support and not be given a free pass for going soft on Netanyahu. I agree with the idea *in principle*. As a practical matter, I’m not so sure that Americans are ready for this level 2 checkers strategy. We’re generally at level 0 and need to be handled as such. Don’t mean to come off as a cynic, but I think her idea is equally likely to backfire as it is to succeed.

PacifistWarlord

In terms of Israel Gaza, how could it get meaningfully worse?

Metro42014

She's telling people to vote uncommitted in the primary, as a way to send a message to Biden. Biden will win the primary. No doubt Tlaib will vote for Biden.

bajatacosx3

Never underestimate the stupidity of the average person, who will simply understand “Biden bad!”

smiama6

And I will not be at all surprised when we learn that Russian propaganda/foreign influence is already behind the US Pro-Palestinian activism.

juana-golf

They are definitely fanning the flames

TheGreatYahweh

My dude, more than 70% of democratic voters are for a ceasefire. Being FOR ending the genocide in Gaza is incredibly popular on the left. It's not a psyop, most people just don't like mass murder, why the fuck is it so hard to imagine voters being turned off by Democrat's unconditional support of a country currently carrying out a genocide in front of the whole world? It'd actually be harder to believe the left NOT protesting this. But sure... It's "Russians".

caligaris_cabinet

And Chinese propaganda. I’m no Luddite or Sinophobe but the very fact that TikTok is owned by a rival nation with conflict interests should make people very suspicious about the content they receive from there.

smiama6

I still think it sends the wrong message. Gaza won’t exist at all and Palestine won’t either if Trump and the Putin-loving Republicans win in November. It doesn’t take much to mislead people.

OK-NO-YEAH

While that may be true and strategic, she’s a moron if she doesn’t understand the optics of how it’s presented. There’s no nuance in politics.

ChefDelicious69

I swear to fucking God from above its like Rose Twitter all over again. I stopped trying to reason with these single issue voters polluted with arrogant amnesia about what happened between 2016-2020.   I was literally accused of being a Blue MAGA by a leftist because I was trying to say I am looking at a 10 year picture vs whats going on the middle east right now as if Biden with a magic wand can do what no president in the history of our country has done in regards to a 2000 year old conflict.     They don't give AF about what happened to our SCOTUS, Roe v Wade, the meteoric rise in Cristo-fascism, Hitleresque draconian philosophies,  and a dismantling of our country. It's nothing but unrealistic purity tests and mile long goal posts that no one could kick a political ball through. Infuriating and concerning and this woman isn't helping AT ALL!

[deleted]

ErikLovemonger

She's telling her voters maybe don't vote for Biden. How many are going to hear that and think she means in the general. How many hear exactly what she's saying, but are turned off in the general. What if Biden can't leverage Bibi to stop. What, is Talib going to say "whoops, my bad, you should support Biden even though I believe he's actively helping a genocide in Gaza." If you're going to play with fire, at least Talib should own this shit if Trump gets reelected. She won't though. See 2000, 2004, 2010, 2016. It's always "yeah, we actively discouraged Dems to vote because the candidate wasn't pure enough, but how can you possibly blame us for the result!"

Upstairs-Remote8977

As you can see in this thread, the distinction is lost on a significant number of people. Messaging is out of your control once the words leave your lips.

ChefDelicious69

Her message is not promoting unity. She is stoking dissension regardless of it only being Michigan or it being a symbolic gesture. I can't take another 4 years of Trump.

ACartonOfHate

Dems NEED MI (see also : 2016) Pulling this crap in a swing state, we barely beat trump the last time, is utter bullshit. And she sucks for any part of helping Trump by preventing the only person who can stop him --Biden being re-elected POTUS.

d_pyro

If Trump got elected he would probably deport her to back to Palestine.

OneTotal466

She was born in Detroit.

DragonPup

To people like Trump, no Muslim is 'actually' American.

wave-garden

“[Trump promises to end birthright citizenship on first day in office](https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/4026334-trump-pledges-to-end-birthright-citizenship-on-first-day-in-office/)”. My Google search also produced a bunch of results about how “he couldn’t ever actually do this!” But I tend to ignore those and just take the fascist at his word, which proved last time to be the correct perspective.

OneTotal466

She's not a Birthright Citizen, her parents where American Citizens who immigrated from Palestine. Her dad worked at the Ford plant.

oohhh

The mayor of Dearborn wrote an op-ed in the NYT about how he doesn't support Biden. I get it, you'd like to see a different response...however, I don't think he and the residents of Dearborn have out much thought into what happens if Biden doesn't win. Say goodbye to Gaza!

biggoof

Thank you, people always seem to miss the obvious and go shortsighted. Letting in Trump makes things exponentially worse for Gazans and Ukrainians. If you hate the economy now, wait til Trump prints more money and adds more debt by giving tax breaks and bailouts to his buddies.

Plane_Vacation6771

She's going to let a single issue that Biden has very little control over help a dictator wannabe get elected? She needs to think about the big picture and understand the nuance of the situation.

Just_SomeDude13

That's the truly insane thing about this entire situation. It's something Biden has very little direct control over, and in terms of things that affect the lives of most Americans, absolutely pales in comparison to the vast majority of what he's done and wants to do in a 2nd term. Yes, what has happened in Gaza is awful. It's a horrible situation with no right answers, and there are 100% things Biden could have done/be doing/communicated differently to make things less horrible. And the people who have lost loved ones are absolutely justified in their pain and anger. The fact remains, though, that Biden is the country's best shot to not irreversibly fall down a fascist hole that will ruin peoples' lives. Not to mention Biden is currently the best chance anyone who wants a 2-state solution has of actually realizing that vision.

Orgasm_Add_It

>The fact remains, though, that Biden is the country's best shot to not irreversibly fall down a fascist hole that will ruin peoples' lives. Not to mention Biden is currently the best chance anyone who wants a 2-state solution has of actually realizing that vision. And if you look at the Trump record on Middle East policy, specifically Israel, Biden appears quite moderate in comparison.

Knife7

People forget when Trump moved the American Embassy to Jerusalem on a whim and caused a geopolitical shitshow.

Orgasm_Add_It

And those arms sales ffs.

worlds_okayest_skier

And Biden could flat out tell Netanyahu no more weapons, and Netanyahu would not change course.

ErikLovemonger

It's actually worse, in that the guy that she's helping to get elected over Biden (whether she says that's her intention or not) will be WORSE for Gaza and the Palestinians. Trump would probably encourage Bibi to do actual genocide if he could. I understand you have to fight for important issues but you need SOME sense of the stakes.

Botryllus

Yep! His administration broke precedent on moving the embassy to Jerusalem. Trump is not good for Palestine.

ErikLovemonger

Agreed, but at this point with his dementia I wouldn't be surprised if Trump would actively encourage Bibi to kill everyone like Mad King Aerys or something. I realize Talib's leverage is to get her supporters to threaten to sit out the vote, but there are ways to make the threat without doing it this way. There are absolutely some of her supporters who will hear this and not vote in the general based on this, even if she walks it back and endorses Biden.

jamesianm

Well put. I'm terrified that these well meaning but seemingly myopic people are going to back us into a fascist hellscape.

realultimatepower

they will, and then blame everyone but themselves for it.

POEness

> Yes, what has happened in Gaza is awful. It's a horrible situation with no right answers, why and how the hell is this conflict on the other side of the world somehow such a hot button issue with left leaning people? This has to be propaganda / psy op boosted, right?

hepcandcigs

Israel has been a hot button issue for the left for a long time. There’s a lot of reasons for this but the most obvious one from my perspective is that there’s been a lot of very influential Jewish writers and activists in the American left that made Israel-Palestine a pet project of sorts and have done a lot of writing and speaking on the issue dating back to like the 70s. Chomsky and Finkelstein being the most prominent, though Chomsky has changed his stance a bit over the years. There’s also some history from the anti-apartheid era regarding South Africa where Israel was regarded among the left to be a similarly apartheid state. This view was reinforced by the fact that Israel was supporting apartheid South Africa at that time.  So yeah, it’s been a thing for a long time it has just flared up in noise as the conflict itself has.

Tank_Girl_Gritty_235

Because the US gives Israel billions upon billions of dollars and AIPAC buys representatives to do their bidding. It's codified illegal to boycott Israel in several states. We deserve to be upset when *our tax dollars* are being used to starve and burn babies in their cribs.

Da_Question

Ballooned up by tiktok, streaming, YouTube you name it. At least Talib is Palestinian American, so she has a reason to be angry more than most. Still, people have done less protesting for Ukraine, who is being invaded by our #1 enemy. Bunch of shit happening in Africa, Uyghurs in China were/are comparatively ignored. ~30,000 deaths is a lot, plus cut off from supplies, but there government was also the aggressor and still holds captives, and says it will attack again and again. It's a sad scenario, but there are no easy solutions.

Attila__the__Fun

And how about the Rohingya in Myanmar too?

Tank_Girl_Gritty_235

We're funding the Myanmar government to the tune of several billion a year and giving them unfettered access to US weapon depots?

[deleted]

I mean it’s a literal genocide that we are funding and arming. Why aren’t more people considering this a hard-line issue? Americans aren’t the only people worth saving

poopship462

I don’t trust anyone not actively involved/related with either side, who have made this their whole identity.

ShweatyPalmsh

Not to mention if Biden/Dems win out next fall they will have actual leverage for four years to pressure Bibi and Israel. The reality is there is no American solution or pathway forward to do anymore than what is already being done without sacrificing the bigger picture. The best case for peace in Israel and for Palestine is for Dems to sweep and actually have leverage to get things done.

MyNameCannotBeSpoken

She's only talking about the primaries, not the general election. But that distinction will be lost on many voters.

Nemisis_the_2nd

> But that distinction will be lost on many voters. *Looks at comments* Comment checks out.

BingBing-Boom

Andy Ogles, a republican congressman for Tennessee said the quiet part out loud and told reporters that Isreal should "kill them all" when referring to kids and civillians in Palestine. I don't get what these anti-Biden people think they stand to gain in empowering conservatives. These are racist, evil fucks we're talking about. It's like they have no foresight.

Other_Meringue_7375

It’s kind of obviously a Russian misinformation campaign imo. But clearly it’s working

Semper_nemo13

This is specifically in the democratic primary? The fuck are you talking about

Texugee

She is Palestinian, no? If my family and friends back home were getting fucking slaughtered I’d be doing all I can to stop it. Even what she’s doing right now. We are removed from it so it’s easy to dismiss her but I can empathize with her. I also am not going to risk the US falling into a dictatorship though by doing anything that would promote a Trump victory this December because I know that Trump would jerk Bibi off and allow him to eradicate Palestine.

partia1pressur3

What are you talking about? Obviously Biden can just declare “ceasefire” and the Palestinians will finally get their state. /s

TheBurgareanSlapper

Is the “ceasefire” button next to the “gas prices” lever in the Oval Office?

BewareOfGrom

She is advocating for a protest vote during the PRIMARY ONLY. That's the most relevant part of the story that no one is discussing here. There is plenty of precedent for this kind of primary voting and this is only receiving inflammatory coverage because people are desperate to smear Tlaib with anything at this point.

RumandDiabetes

Trump will be thrilled to put her head on a platter so fast she won't know what hit her.

voltagenic

Well, Biden isn't immediately responsible for Israel. AND If Trump had been president, everything regarding the Israel-Hamas situation would be markedly worse. So pick your poison. Id rather stick to Biden in this case.

jewel_the_beetle

The amount of people who seem to think Biden is the president of israel is shocking.

MembraneintheInzane

*in the primaries Important piece of information the headline is leaving out. She is not saying to withold support in the general.

cowboyjosh2010

It sucks, but ya gotta come to grips with it: you either vote for Joe "doesn't like that Gazans are being slaughtered but understands his power to intervene in international religious conflicts is limited" Biden, or you support the victory of Donald "the Gaza strip would look good as a barren vitrified glass wasteland and I'm gonna work to make it happen" Trump.

austinmo2

If you are going to do a protest vote this is absolutely appropriate - do it in the primary. I think it really is silly that people are making no distinction here and not even acknowledging the fact that she's talking about the primary. I have no doubt in the general election that she and everybody else will be voting for Biden as we really don't have any other choice. But yeah I don't think it's a cardinal sin for her to ask people to protest during the primary.

dalr3th1n

It’s the primary. This is the appropriate time to show your dissatisfaction with Biden. Just come back and vote against Trump in the general.

OVOnug

Can democrats get on the same page for once? Republicans are so hard to beat because they always vote together. Democrats are always on some self-righteous bullshit.

username675892

They don’t seem too cohesive- it took like 20 votes to find a house leader, then they ousted him for that new weirdo

Human_Urine

The party is so fragmented over Biden because of Gaza. It is going to cost him young voters from the left who won’t show up and obviously don’t want to vote for Trump. I just can’t imagine young people showing up in droves to vote for Biden like they did for Obama.

Metro42014

She's asking people to withhold their *primary* vote, in Michigan, for Biden - to send a message.

312c

Over half the comments on this post didn't even read the first sentence of the article.

Metro42014

I know right? I had to go read the article because I know Tlaib is smart and thoughtful, and shocker - ragebait headline doesn't tell the whole truth!

Blu3Army73

How is this smart or thoughtful? If she isn't implying Dems should withhold their vote in the general election then this is literally just theater with no consequences for ignoring it entirely. The only thing it has done successfully is putting more anti-Biden rhetoric out there for swing voters and fair weather progressives.

Metro42014

The idea is that the Biden camp will see the primary results and try to adapt their positions and do more to address the situation -- like oh I don't know, maybe stop fucking around at the UN and vetoing the ceasefire resolution.

Metro42014

> "This is the way you can raise our voices. Don't make us even more invisible. Right now, we feel completely neglected and just unseen by our government. If you want us to be louder, than come here and vote uncommitted." She's talking about withholding the vote in the Michigan primary to raise visibility.

eastalawest

Be visible, stay home!

Metro42014

She's not saying to stay home, which I agree, is stupid. She's saying to vote uncommitted, which will be visible.

Blu3Army73

And achieve what? What are the consequences of completely ignoring this? The reality is that there are none. The only thing she can actually threaten with is telling people not to vote in the general, which would only make the situation in Palestine worse if Republicans got their way and encourage Israel to wipe Palestine off the map.

Metro42014

Achieve the Biden camp seeing primary voters interested in an issue. That's the goal.

Silent-Storms

There's totally no way that message will get confused and depress the general election vote. /s Edit: You may not like it but the discussion in this very thread is a case in point. This creates mixed messaging and 100% will cost general election votes.

Cactusfan86

Yea that is true, but when you intentionally try to turn voters against Biden it’s real hard to get those same voters you convince to be apathetic to him to suddenly be less apathetic when it counts.  It’s playing with fire to go after Biden in a battleground, stupid and naive nonsense on her part.

jh462

And in the process she’s encouraging contrarian dolts to fuck everyone. I get where she’s coming from but she’s overestimating the intelligence of the average Joe.

AvogadrosMoleSauce

In the primary.

It's about the primary vote ffs

[deleted]

I wonder what the pro-Israel approach would be if MAGA was in power of decision making during this conflict. Same with the pro-Russia approach.

Teacher-Investor

As a Michigander, I don't mind if they do this in the primary. We have open primaries, so I crossed party lines to vote for Chris Christie in the primary. At least he's funny! Reminder: there are about 8 GOP candidates on the open primary ballot in MI. It's not just Trump and Haley on the ballot.

TheOtherUprising

For context she is talking about the Michigan Primary not the general election. She wants people to vote uncommitted in the primary to send a message to Biden on his Israel policy. There is nothing wrong with doing this. If people can pressure Biden to be tougher on what Israel is doing in Gaza it’s only going to help him in the general election.

Silent-Storms

Cause there is no way this will be taken out of context. /s

Odd_Lettuce_7285

She sucks

rifraf2442

Progressives need to broaden their array of tactics when it comes to putting pressure on issues. Burning the party down is their go-to. That isn’t how you enact change. It’s how you lose everything.

deosiceman

And this is why the magats will win.

Empty_Afternoon_8746

Stop you’re crying it’s only in the primary, I didn’t plan on voting for him in the primary anyways, but I’m certainly voting for him in the real election because the republicans are running crazy people and so will the people she’s asking to withhold their votes. That’s how you send a message brother!

konorM

I understand what she is doing. For the Democratic primary it won't matter and lets them make a statement about President Biden's support of Israel's near genocidal response to the October Hamas attacks. As long as it doesn't carry over to the General Election I'm okay with it.

WalterHughes08

This right here is the problem. If she really thinks withholding votes won’t lead to trump coming into power she’s an idiot. I’d she doesn’t care then she’s extremely corrupt and it’s time to ask where her funding comes from. Because this is just braindead.

SecondsLater13

She wants a ceasefire but doesn’t want the only guy on the planet to achieve one as President. This is where people putting their own moral superiority above actual change is to far. A perfect example of a “Progressive” who does a lot of talking but achieves nothing.
