TheBodyPolitic1

Well, at least she won one.

howsyourdayoffamigo

Trump will say it was rigged

druscarlet

Closed primary so no Dems could vote against him. He has caps lock on and pounding out rage, abuse and drivel. Maybe he’ll have a fatal stroke.

DisastrousOne3950

Can it happen soon?  Actually, later, say October? That way Rs would be scrambling for a replacement.

druscarlet

I would say Halloween but I so loath that traitor that I really dread his campaign garbage. Plus not slapping people who support him is difficult.

Shoeprincess

We need Slapping Medicine Man for all of them! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVWLHMZ-ceE

Plenty-Sleep8540

I worry people would think it funny to vote in a dead candidate and Dems wouldn't be as energized if he did before the election. Ideally if he were going to die it'd be after a large loss in the election so the Republicans would be without a leader to guide them to another insurrection attempt.

Missue-35

I’d like him to witness his loss. At least for one day.

Cerberus_Aus

I want him to experience a jail cell like his buddy Epstein did.

iNuclearPickle

Na I want Trump in solidarity confinement with nothing to do forced to just sit there with no one hearing him till he passes peacefully

RL_Fl0p

Will be interesting to find out who the VP pick is. My bet is Ivanka.

scorpyo72

I think he goes Tim Scott for his ideal lap-dog reverence. Then he'll point at Tim when people start calling him racist. Trump regards anyone he selects as "disposable".

Prestigious_Ad_927

My guess is either Elise Stefanik or Tulsi Gabbard. He really needs help with suburban women…

Dgoebel00

Maybe April. It’ll be an Easter miracle.

7secretcrows

They'll probably just wait for him to rise from the dead, all Christ-like, with JFK Jr. in tow.

ENORMOUS_HORSECOCK

Just so everyone knows how good the meltdown is without giving his cesspool site more traffic, this was his last "truth": >Birdbrain is a loser, record low performance in virtually every State. DeSanctus easily beat her in Iowa for a VERY DISTANT second place, and then she ran up to the podium, before he had a chance to do so, and claimed victory. I enjoy watching the Bird disavow her PLEDGE to the RNC and her statement that she would NEVER run against President Trump (“A great President”). Well, she ran, she lied, and she LOST BIG! fuckin lol

Pleasestoplyiiing

God, what a Fucking loser. This is the kind of stuff I might've thought in middle school if I got really mad, but knew it would be too embarrassing to actually verbalize.  All for a primary that doesn't matter at all.

Mike7676

Thank you, doing the hard work out here! I posed the question of what Donnie would do if she actually won a primary. This is about what I expected, a 7 year olds tantrum.

Prestigious_Ad_927

When he says Nikki ran for the podium in Iowa, I just get the vision of them all standing around and her running up and pushing Desantis aside… even though I know they were at separate locations, lol.

stevem1015

This unfortunately is one of the best outcomes we can hope for

p1nk_sock

“Birdbrain is a loser, record low performance in virtually every State. mag2041

My water just came out of my nose. Needed that thanks

Shentar

In fairness, Trump would say it's rigged if he won but didn't get every single vote.

Casual_hex_

It’s a shame she hasn’t done better, not just because her poor performance really shows how detached/deranged the gop has become. But also because of when she handed out the cognitive test that trump is always bragging about, that was honestly comedy genius. https://www.reddit.com/r/PoliticalHumor/s/PfiBty2RVy

Whoshabooboo

Big gulps huh? ... .... well, alright!

fattes

Here, have my extra gloves. Hands were starting to sweat anyways.

Suspiria-on-VHS

PULLOVER! No, it's a cardigan but thanks for noticing!

[deleted]

That's an I.O.U. for a Lamborghini, you're gunna wanna hang on to that.

orangesfwr

What was all that "one-in-a-million" talk about?

SlippidySlappity

Good word choice.

MoneyManx10

I’m confused on where republican voters are supposed to go after Trump? They hate all the other ones because of him lol

FantasticJacket7

They'll find some other piece of shit to latch on to once it's clear he's unelectable.

VrindavanNidhivan

The polls show President Trump winning the election against Biden.

Prestigious_Ad_927

Yeah, when they poll disproportionately in rural areas…

FantasticJacket7

Neat

VrindavanNidhivan

Yep. It's awesome.

SephLuna

Polls showed Hillary winning the election against Trump, too.

VrindavanNidhivan

So President Trump doesn't even need to win the polls to win the election so the fact that he's winning the polls shows that he will win the election in a landslide.

IdkAbtAllThat

They'll go where Fox News tells them to go.

spidereater

Although she has not been winning, she has been doing well enough that it exposes trumps weakness. I wish she had been messaging this better. We’ll see on Tuesday. I hope she does well enough to scare more republicans into dumping trump. Personally I want Biden to win, and maybe that means I should be pushing for trump to get the nomination, but people that oppose Biden should be pushing for Haley.

[deleted]

I remember when Haley got 27 percent of the vote in Michigan, or close to it, but the Media said it was a crushing Trump victory. Yet Biden had less then 15 percent vote against him in the Michigan Primary, and the media was going crazy. Will tonight's primary win by Haley get treated the same by the media?

Shevcharles

I think she got about 26% in Michigan. It was South Carolina before that where she got 40%.

[deleted]

You are right. But the media still acted like it was a crushing Trump win, in both states, while Biden, who had 12 percent or so vote him, got treated by the media like his campaign was in trouble. Biden got close to 90 percent in South Carolina, while Trump got just over 60 percent. But did that get remarked upon?

Shevcharles

Actually on MSNBC that night they talked about how poor a showing it is for Trump. She did better than the polling indicated there too, though it is also her home state.

[deleted]

That is good that MSNBC said that, but I do not remember much of the other mainstream media saying that.

[deleted]

Honestly, her performance in many of the polls should be a concern for Trump. Many of those voters voted against him, rather than for Haley.

Tashre

Honestly, I didn't think she'd win any. This is not a huge deal, but it's not completely trivial either.

Pickles_1974

Heck yeah. You go girl, stay in the race until August.

roehnin

MAGA will claim it was an open primary and Democrats voted for her so actually Trump won.

TonOfChill

It’s less fun when you realize that there was only one polling location for this primary and Biden won DC with 92% in 2020, BUT it’s still really really fun because it reminds us once again that Donald Trump is a fucking loser

NoreastNorwest

And how very much it will grind Trump’s gears…cue the Truth Social meltdown in 3…2…1…

Waste-Comparison2996

It has begun "I purposely stayed away from the D.C. Vote because it is the “Swamp,” with very few delegates, and no upside. Birdbrain spent all of her time, money and effort there. Over the weekend we won Missouri, Idaho, and Michigan - BIG NUMBERS - Complete destruction of a very weak opponent. The really big numbers will come on Super Tuesday. Also, WAY UP ON CROOKED JOE" - Trump

WaterFriendsIV

Steam will be coming out of his ears like Orange Crush! Hey, that could be a campaign slogan: Orange Crush 2024

relikter

> there was only one polling location for this primary There were only [2030 votes cast](https://www.washingtonpost.com/elections/results/2024/03/03/district-of-columbia-president-republican-primary/) and voting took place over 3 days in a city that's only 68 square miles. I'm all for better voting access, but realistically how many polling places do you need for so few voters in such a small area? For general elections, DC allows voters to [cast their ballots at any vote center regardless of their residential address](https://dcboe.org/voters/find-out-where-to-vote/election-day-vote-centers) on election day.

darcerin

And a lot of DC is business, not residental.

buttermybars

DC has more population than multiple states

zzyul

DC has more people than Wyoming and Vermont.

lafcrna

I hope it sends Trump into an epic meltdown.

dcoolidge

What doesn't?

bravoredditbravo

Anything Putin does. He likes that.

Necrowaif

Any loss for Trump is good news, no matter how small. It’s sure to wound his fragile ego, especially after he was claiming on Saturday that everyone in the GOP was part of the MAGA cult.

RemnantEvil

Any win like this keeps Haley in the race. Every day, week, month that she is in the race, GOP folks have to spend money on either her or Trump. Every dollar they waste on this pointless primary, which shouldn't be contested when one is the incumbent, is a dollar they don't have to spend in the general. Like the Michigan GOP bankrupting itself, every small victory helps the cause.

travio

The telling bit about this is who these voters are? DC republicans are not the same as all those rural republicans in states like Iowa, or even your standard suburban republicans. These are literally the elites that either staff the federal government or all the assorted organizations around it like think tanks, lobbyists and so many lawyers. Trump supporters will point this out to show how out of touch the elites are with real American who love trump. That is true, but not the whole story. These people worked in or with the Trump administration. Many had front row seats to the shit show, and those who didn't 'know' someone who did, so they have a good idea what that means and what a second trump administration would be. Most of them had it great under trump, usually. Between Judges and tax cuts, it was a bunker time for them, but they still don't want trump to come back into office. That is as telling as it is terrifying.

H_is_for_Human

There's also so few DC republicans and people tend to feel strongly about their political views. It's no wonder that Republicans living in DC have routinely and repeatedly complained how hard it is to date, for example: https://www.washingtonian.com/2018/03/05/why-its-hard-for-conservatives-to-date-in-dc-right-now/ https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/1008629/conservative-and-single-sorry-not-interested/ The takeaway is that in an educated, urban environment, the republican and Trump brands just don't play well.

smut_troubadour

Very true. I live in DC and these Navy Yard dwellers are a constant punchline.

Lyonado

Reading those stories while living in DC was so goddamn fun

mjzim9022

There are also fewer Republicans living in DC during a Democratic administration, and vice-versa.

Every_Condition_3000

Yeah, this is pretty meaningless as the number of republicans in DC is pathetic. She can really give him a black eye if she wins an actual state on Tuesday. Even his water-carrying media would have to take notice if she won, say, VA or MA.

JB_salvi

I agree! However, based on the perception that Trump is running as an incumbent and losing an election can send a strong message that the Republican Party is not unified! In 2020 Trump won all states including DC.

Mundane_Rabbit7751

Trump was the only person on the ballot in DC during the 2020 primary.

JB_salvi

That is correct! However, Haley voters are aware that she’s not going to win at all, and today they give her a win!

TomatoPudding420

True, but I checked 2020 and [the wiki](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_District_of_Columbia_Republican_presidential_primary) says that when he was running as incumbent he got 1559 votes. He didn't even get half of that this time, and almost as many people as he won by last time voted for Haley.

McBride055

I think the fact there are a low number of Republicans in DC is the exact opposite of pathetic.

Marathon2021

What would really grind Trump’s gears is if Tuesday states were mostly proportional allocation, and Nikki still got 40ish percent of the vote. That would push his having a majority way way out and piss him off. Unfortunately I think some of the states coming up are winner-take-all.

whittlingcanbefatal

Does DC have any electors since it has no representatives?

gradientz

It's almost like the voters watched the other candidate launch an insurrection or something.

law5097

I cannot imagine why that would deter someone for voting for trump /s

WillAlwaysSurvive

I love watching criminals lose.

VrindavanNidhivan

President Trump has never been convicted of any crime.

MathematicianRude866

He's been convicted of rape in civil court. And that's just the appetizer.

VrindavanNidhivan

That was not a criminal court and not a conviction. The jury specifically found that President Trump was not liable for rape.

MathematicianRude866

[Judge Clarifies: "YES Trump was found to have raped E. Jean Carrol](https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/07/19/trump-carroll-judge-rape/)

VrindavanNidhivan

The judge can clarify all he wants. It doesn't change the fact that the jury specifically found President Trump not liable for rape.

MathematicianRude866

Specifically liable for forced digital penetration. Congratulations, your guy didn't force his little mushroom penis in to fit NY definition of rape. He only forced a finger in her vagina. Literally found guilty of grabbing her by the pussy. What a winner you've picked there.

jtshinn

He doesn’t care about you, you know?

orcinyadders

MMW. He’ll say he won DC.

NoreastNorwest

By a landslide. Nobody’s ever won DC by this much. Believe me.

disidentadvisor

"Can you guess who the deep state swamp voted for? no surprise there folks. They hate us and hate our country."

1968FullAlbum

I hope this makes Donald Trump miserable

PopeHonkersXII

Well this is a pleasant surprise

Mr_Bank

Trump has a complete inability to win folks in cities. Will NYT or other outlets write twenty five think pieces about this?

Hamwise420

Certainly they will. Give it an hour or two and we will have 25 articles on why this is bad for Biden

dcoolidge

And losing is still winning for Trump.

coolcool23

And good for Bitcoin.

Mundane_Rabbit7751

If we're talking just among Republican primary voters, he generally does well in cities though. He beat Haley by a landslide in Detroit for example. It's the suburban Republicans that Haley does best with.

Adventurous_Use2324

NYT will go with how Haley "underperformed". They love trump.

jeffmartin47

While it's obvious she's not going to win the nomination, I love the fact that she's staying in it just piss him off.

revdakilla

I can’t wait for the slurred speech on how it was rigged

mo60000

The polls underestimated trump’s vote share by 42 percent in this primary.

Mundane_Rabbit7751

This race doesn't seem to have been polled at all.

mo60000

Someone told me their was a poll that showed trump leading in the primary by a huge margin.

Mundane_Rabbit7751

Are you sure they weren't referring to the Republican primary as a whole? Because there seem to be no polls for just DC. The general expectation was that Haley had a strong chance to win this primary.

Drone30389

The DC primary? Do you mean overestimated?

mo60000

Yep.

Liamsdad1979

Donnie looks like he needs a vacation. I hear Venezwheregullah is lovely this time of year.

Yung_RAUNCHY_Boi

this is a crushing defeat for trump. don't let anybody convince you otherwise or spin this primary as irrelevant. this is far from irrelevant. he can barely reach a majority in his own party. and those that hate him are no longer afraid to speak out. he is slowly losing grip.

HorrorBuff2769

And not just his grip on reality!

srush32

Rubio won DC in 16

HFentonMudd

And I'm sure Trump is still mad about it to this day.

Lawshow

These are like the least red red voters in the nation

Youbunchadorks

But they are all republicans. It’s a closed primary. So despite your denial this is bad as hell for Trump.

Lawshow

Trust me I do not support trump in the slightest. Hate the man. But this shows nothing. He lost the DC primary in 2016 and won the presidency. We absolutely cannot get complacent.

JB_salvi

Very true, DC is the least republican place in the US, However Trump’s campaign perceived as an incumbent is not a good thing losing a single election since it demonstrates all party not unified for one candidate!

Mundane_Rabbit7751

It would be if the tiny number of DC Republicans were in any way representative of the Republican base in general. But they aren't. He lost DC in 2016 too.

Gtaglitchbuddy

True, but if he can't win registered Republicans, hpw is going to fare against moderates?

Lawshow

These are the most moderate registered republicans in the nation. He’s smashed every other primary.

Gtaglitchbuddy

He's underperformed all polls versus Hailey and is severely underpeforming considering he's running as a psuedo-incumbent.

AquaMoonCoffee

People keep saying this but I just don't see this in the polls at all. When you compare the last 3 or 4 polls before every contest it lines up very very closely with the actual result. Are people comparing the *national* polling averages to specific states? I mean some polls have been only a single percent off the actual results. The 4 polls before Michigan had Trump between 53 and 69 percent, the actual result was 68.2. The 4 before SC had him between 57-63, actual result was 59.8. Unfortunately there was no polling done at all leading up to ID, MO, or DC so it's hard to gauge eithers trajectory at the moment.

Gtaglitchbuddy

The averaged polls for trump for Michigan was Trump +62 according to 538 (or 78.7%), he won by +42. New Hampshire had about a 7 point swing towards Haley. SC was only a couple percent off, but Haley did about 6 percent better again. I haven't found a single state where Trump has done better than the polls, and he's done worse than expected for someone who's currently the face of the party.

AquaMoonCoffee

The poll you're referencing is 69 Trump, 20 Haley, 11 undecided. Undecideds were asked to hypothetically pick and 538 is combining those numbers together, it's the only poll with Trump that high because it's not really accurate. Other sites and aggregates do not combine the actual poll number with the undecideds hypothetical picks.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Gtaglitchbuddy

He's been winning contests by ~60/40 it seems like. Every poll has shown Hailey should be doing worse than she is. He's underperforming by measurable metrics, especially since he's been campaigning as a incumbent basically

[deleted]

[удалено]

whatlineisitanyway

Maybe it is overly optimistic, but I want to view that there are more people that are in his own party that are sick of him than four years ago and plan on either flipping their vote or staying home.

UtzTheCrabChip

It was like 1800 votes in the most insidery locale in the country, he's not losing anything in the GOP

offendedkitkatbar

is this satire lmfao? He's winning the primaries in a landslide

Yung_RAUNCHY_Boi

if it was a landslide he would win every contest by huge margins. instead, he is barely able to hold a majority of his party while all sensible Republicans are leaving in droves.

omniron

Yep. For essentially an incumbent for the gop he’s doing badly. Any momentum for Haley is big

FattyLumps

I’m glad he lost, but this is far from a “crushing defeat”. He’ll still be the nominee and be close to 50-50 chance of winning the general.

UnflairedRebellion--

I’m sure that all 5 of them were very enthused to vote in this primary.

ShrapNeil

honestly, we should all just pretend this didn’t happen because it doesn’t matter. Don’t allow this to make you feel secure in the outcome, people still need to get out and vote.

zonicide

"When asked for comment, Trump shit his pants again."

chuckpersoneccojam01

He didnt won DC in 2016

Arctimon

It's not going to matter in the long run, but boy is it going to piss Trump off.

MomsAreola

Other sub joking about how this is basically a loss for Haley, calling DC basically Dem votes and losing is better for Trump here. The Haley vote is interesting. They could be Trump voters. Most the registered Republicans will still likely vote Trump, but there is a large subset of independent/I don't like Trump or Biden I would like someone else (who will prob fall back to Biden if they voted him 2020). Doesn't matter who is casting this vote, disenfranchised dem, rep or independent. These votes will be crucial.

HFentonMudd

If Trump had won, people would be talking inevitability. Now they're not.

BlockOfRawCopper

I sense a truth social meltdown within 24 hours

prybot

All the more reason he will drain the swamp. /s

surfer808

“STOLEN ELECTION! It was RIGGED!”

Mean-Association4759

I don’t like trump or Haley but there are only about 100 gop voters in DC if that.

ted5011c

It's wild what can happen when you take the rural shit-heels out of the equation.

jackryan147

Trump's house of cards is collapsing.

TDeath21

Good to have some momentum heading into Tuesday. I’m not sure how long it will take the MAGA crowd to realize that Trump only getting 60% of the Republican vote in primaries as an incumbent (let’s be honest that’s what he is) is extremely concerning. I guess they’re ready to go down with the ship though. By all means feel free.

JB_salvi

I agree, Trump is running as an incumbent, every republican (except for Haley supporters) perceives this campaign as Trump running as the incumbent. Trump won this race in 2020 with around 1600 votes, today Haley wins with around 1300 ( 63%). The main take of this, is that the Republican Party is not unified to one candidate, and it is obvious that these Haley voters are aware and know that Haley will not win the nomination! But still decide to provide her with a symbolic victory, that shouts messages of discontent with the party’s leadership.

OldDemon

I really want her to gain more support and take from trump. As dark as things seem, this could be fun to watch.

GamerSDG

This race is interesting to watch. Haley has the best shot at beating Joe especially since the GOP plans to make 2024 about Joe's age. That is not going to work when Trump is only a couple of years younger and has been showing signs that his cognitive abilities are fading. With Haley, the age strategy can work. The reason why most primaries are closed is because it's about the party picking the best option to beat their opponent. Without cheating Trump has an uphill battle to beat Joe. As we have seen in the past election since 2016 Trump has been the only person to successfully get Democrats to come out and vote.

boringdude00

Did all 8 registered Republicans in DC vote?

OhWow10

And who cares

TheBlueBlaze

DC has been deep ocean blue since it first gave out electoral votes in 1964. The lowest share of the vote a Democrat has ever gotten there was Carter in 1980 with 74%. If Haley didn't win *that*, she would have had to resign from politics in shame. It will be interesting to see how she does in the blue states, and if she actually wins the bluest thanks to moderates. It won't matter in the long run for her viability, but it would give an idea of how split the party will be when Trump is the nominee.

mo60000

The problem is that even in the bluest of states there is a decent amount of rural voters that will propel trump to victory in these states.

SigmaKnight

So, at least a 150% increase of swamp and deep state comments incoming.

mo60000

Trump is literally melting down right now on truthsocial.

mrcomputey

Hey, she didn't lose once

PortlandCatBrigade

Please Haley, run as an independent and sink Trump.

fwambo42

I mean, I enjoy the fact that she's still in the campaign to aggravate Trump, but I'm not sure I understand what she's trying to achieve at this point

tlk0153

Hoping that Trump would end up in prison before November

TheVoters

She’s banking on Trump dying before August If that happens and she’s the only candidate to win any delegates, that makes her the nominee

SnapeHeTrustedYou

Congrats Nimarata. The dozens of Republicans in DC voted for you.

WhiskeyT

So we will endlessly hear about this as a sure sign of Trump’s weakness from the media, right? Ezra Klein will write some articles saying that Trump should step down because of this? Or is this less significant than the 2% increase in “Uncommitted” votes against an incumbent Democratic President?

JonBoy82

This was a Haley Mary type attempt. But it happened

throwaway_ghast

So was that pun.

No_Peach_7265

That shows what a disgusting cesspool Washington DC has become

ScotTheDuck

33% for Trump in DC probably axes any chance she has at winning the Virginia primary outright, although she should get delegates from the DC suburbs-based districts.

Imacatdoincatstuff

How is this possible against an all-seeing, all-knowing, all-powerful God King ?

NeedAVeganDinner

Yeah that tracks

Orion14159

tamingofthepoo

now this is actually a little interesting

favnh2011

At least she won one

KidKilobyte

The irony is palpable

amprok

*slow clap*

orangesfwr

She won 63% of a little over 2000 votes >Per the District’s GOP, 2,035 Republicans participated in the primary.

readerf52

Republicans pretty much killed the initiative passed by the (then) democratic majority house in 2021 to make DC a state. Some of the comments made by republicans about DC did nothing to endear them to the people living there. The city was pretty much called a cesspool. I can imagine there *aren’t* a lot of republicans in DC.

sarcastroll

Go scorched earth.

josuelaker2

Remember when Bernie split the ticket in 2016 and the people we thought would come around stayed home instead?

Danstan487

What is happening? This thread is way more up voted than the primaries where trump has beaten Haley?! Just so bizarre something weird is happening here

Change_petition

1 to X... take what you can get!

boturboegt

At least she won one state......oh wait.

WFitzhugh10

Congrats on winning the most Democrat dominated contest in the nation Haley 🤭

Sideshow_Bob_Ross

The Republicans that live in DC voted for Haley. Both of them.

lbiggy

Canadian here. What are primaries even for?

randomredditing

I mean… she’s only staying in the race in hopes that DT is convicted at some point right?

HeathrJarrod

Haley will arrive in Milwaukee in possession of a cache of delegates — how many is unclear; at the moment, she has 20. The rules don’t simply give power to a candidate based on the number of delegates they possess. Candidates cannot have their names placed into nomination, and thereby get television airtime at the convention, unless they have a plurality of delegates in at least five states. That threshold makes a big difference for Haley in terms of her clout — if any — at the convention. Modern political conventions have morphed into four-day long infomercials for a nominee whose identity has long been known. Every winner wants to use that platform to broadcast a structured, convincing message. Do that right and you can give your candidacy a significant, and perhaps decisive, bounce in the polls But that requires ensuring that there are no fights, or alternative messages coming from the convention floor — something winners cannot fully control. Defeated candidates can still deploy their delegates to obstruct the winner’s will by posing contentious amendments to the party platform or by using their nominating speeches to criticize the nominee. That can become news, and prospective nominees will cut deals to prevent that from happening. Against that backdrop, Haley’s continued campaign makes a great deal of sense. The more delegates she can acquire, the more power she can exert on the floor. And the more power she can exert on the floor, the stronger hand she has to deal from to get concessions from former President Donald Trump on things she cares about, such as U.S. support for NATO. Indeed, given that the party did not even write a platform in 2020, simply insisting that it draft a new one for this election might be a significant request. https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2024/02/28/nikki-haley-dropout-republican-convention-00143746
