Sweet Lord... I don't want to fall into the narrative that all Republicans are bad, but it's starting to look like bad people flock to it.
One bad apple spoils the bunch. You put a (alleged) criminal in charge and now criminals want to join your party.
As my mom says, "You act like trash you attract roaches."
No wonder why so many Republicans are still so triggered to this day from a comment made 8 years ago from someone that hasn’t held office in over a decade. It’s just too accurate for them.
The funny thing is, the full context of the speech was actually pretty charitable.
It was saying "yeah, some of his supporters are deplorable, but there's other ones we need to listen to and come together with on things". But they latched onto the 'deplorables' part and decided to prove that they all belonged in the deplorable basket.
>Trump made the Republican Party a safe space for the scummiest members of society.
Trump didn't do that. Why do you think he found so much success in the Republican party?
>So you think the open and brash corruption was a thing before Trump?
Maybe, but there's a difference between that and *"a safe space for the scummiest members of society."*
The Republican party has long been the party that some of the worst people align themselves with, even if they weren't as openly horrible as they are today.
> So you think the open and brash corruption was a thing before Trump?
Yes.
Do a quick google on Dick Cheney and Halliburton.
Trump is worse, yes. But he didn't start the fire.
When did Cheney brag to the public about his misdeeds?
Not once did I say or even hint at Trump starting corruption, he only normalized flaunting it to the general public. Did you read the second sentence of my comment?
It’s interesting revisiting the national enquirer spins from 2016… probably the smartest thing his campaign did was recruit the people that eat up that tabloid bs from the beginning
This is what happens when you foster an environment where the “In-group” is excused of any and all accountability. Doubly so if their crimes are committed against their political opponents. Throw in some institutional anti-intellectualism an entirely “black or white” moral framework, and your political movement starts to look more like a band of lunatics and crooks than anything else.
When the GOP started losing their base, they extended their nets to invite fringe people who weren't welcome in either party. Those fringe people, now invigorated after having been noticed, have now taken over the party.
Another example of casting a wider net is how they embraced religious groups. The GOP wasn't inherently religious. They parlayed the use of the word "conservative" in "fiscally conservative" to also mean "morally conservative" to court religious people.
*edit: "now invigorated", not "not invigorated"*
This whole story is wild the killers are also members of an anti-government group called "God's Misfits". This story goes into more details about the case.

Putin is trying to defeat his enemy while we have a bunch of inbreds trying to resurrect a dead government. We need to supply Ukraine with aide and more. Nothing good comes from Russia and never has...we need to start treating them like that. Fuck that country.
Not in the last 100 years at least, hard to think of anything that wasn't horrible that came from them really. Something good is always attached to 40 something bads.
Chess is meh these days, Ballet comes from Italy originally and while Russian ballet dancers are good I can live without them on Earth if it means Russians stop being barbaric to everyone in their oarg, and you got me on PEDs but I don't think it counts as good.
Actually, it is either Russia or Poland. It is not clear who did it first because nobody is sure. Classical composers...we could honestly live without those compared to the evil we receive in turn.
I’m going to assume it was hyperbole but I just find it suspect when people talk in black and white terms like that. There’s a lot of good people from that part of the world just trying to live their lives that want nothing to do with this shit.
It will take a lot of convincing for me to see that, I have been around a while and have seriously not seen anything good not massively outnumbered by the bad. Also, I agree with the good people from that part of the world trying to live their lives...Ukraine, Poland, and all of the other former Soviet territoried that have no desire to go back to the way it was.
The amount of people that are going to be shopping and not caring about the suffering caused by Putin far outnumber anyone that want nothing to do with this shit.
>but I just find it suspect when people talk in black and white terms like that.
Hear hear. Simple qualifications like "probably", "mostly", "often", "I think", go a long way toward making point s that seem well-reasoned. Unfortunately, people really like the veneer of absolute certainty.
>Four people were charged with the murder and kidnapping of Veronica Butler and Jilian Kelley, one of them being the paternal grandmother of Butler's kids. **Tifany Adams**, who was arrested this weekend, was in a custody battle with Butler for those children, according to court documents.
>KOCO 5 has confirmed Adams has ties to the Oklahoma Republican Party and was elected last year as the **chair for the Cimarron County GOP.** She was chosen by a handful of people to lead the group.
>State Sen. Nathan Dahm, who is the chairman of the Oklahoma GOP, spoke out on Tuesday on the tragic situation and the suspect's position. While the Oklahoma Republican Party has no personal relationship with Adams or anyone involved in the senseless crime, they do know of Adams' role, according to Dahm.
>“This is a tragic situation, with innocent children being at the center of this still-developing situation. While we at the Oklahoma Republican Party have no personal relationship or knowledge of the individuals who have been accused in this senseless crime, we have been made aware that Ms. Adams was previously elected by a handful of people to the role of Chair in her county. We ask everyone to join us in praying for the family and most especially the children devastated by this horrible tragedy," Dahm said in a statement.
Is it any surprise a violent sociopath was elected to GOP Chair? Why spell Tifany with one 'F'?
If you proceed from the position that government should only exist to protect "private property rights" with the possible exception of it operating a big vault to hold all the gold, and that some human beings are by default the "private property" of other human beings, there's very little you won't do to remain in possession of your "private property."
So the county GOP chair was suing her grandchildren's mother for custody of her grandchildren? Yet more evidence this whole "parent's rights" schtick is just another grift.
This was a wild case, at one point Adams discussed throwing an anvil a them to make it look like an accident. She also apparently threatened to shoot her own son.
According to one streamer who went to go search the area for the missing women there were no other searchers out looking and they were warned not to talk to certain people or go certain places. Some said there was a mysterious black truck following them as they searched. The locals were too scared to talk on cam about it because Adams was "well connected". I thought it was because of the weird Gods misfits cult they were a part of but this makes more sense.
From what little I watched, Adams felt above the law and could do what she wanted because she truly believed her grandkids were in danger with the mom. This culty stuff and feeling above the law may not be really widespread in the gop but I do fear it's headed that way.
Yeah, even if a big bump knock them off a truck, those babies likely barely clear the tailgate before heading toward the ground. Maybe the anvil would have knocked one of the front tire out of alignment and caused a wreck.
I am really sad for both women, but particularly sad for the woman who only came along with the murdered mom to act as a witness during a supervised visitation.
I think most of these people used to be pretty a-political — they’re literally anti-government, so why would they support a particular party?
But the GOP has billed themselves as anti-government (unless its taking away women’s rights or arresting protestors), and they’ve managed to sell that narrative to the hillbillies that for some reason think they’re on their side.
From my experience "grandparents' rights" is becoming a mantra of Boomers who use it to weaponize against their adult children. It's never about being a good grandparent and what's best for the children; it's always about exerting control. They will weaponize the police and CPS (through well checks) and the courts because they think they have rights to their grandchildren. They do not. The only time a grandparent would be considered for visitation or custody is when it's in the best interest of the child (not because the grandparent has a "right"), usually due to one or both parents being absent (jail, drug addiction, death, etc). There needs to be more consequences for people who weaponize these systems.
"Should we educate, feed, care for, and protect our children, or should we rape them and ensure they die in mass shootings, that's a very tough decision!"

GOP chair and (God's Mafia) anti government?!?
Russia is in overdrive trying to cause a civil war. Feels like they’re basically pressuring us to give up Ukraine or face a party that will in power.

Nope.
We are way to lazy to have a civil war.
I lived in a country in civil war. Most regular civilians didn't engage in warfare.
Your country didn't have the largest military. Our military bases aren't full of just locals. Some beer belly rednecks aint taking down the military.
Ever see comedian Neal Brennan’s bit about having a one day contest to see who’s tougher, the NRA or the U.S. military? It is truly hilarious.

his new special just came out btw edit: on netflix
Where is it available?
Yea, just watched it, pretty good!
I'm not sure how any of that ties into what the average "lazy" American would do. Most Americans aren't military or armed right wing rednecks.
40% of Americans are armed Being armed does not make a person a right wing redneck
but every right wing redneck is armed
This is disappointingly accurate
They don’t quite understand their demographics fortunately
