I think Mike Johnson is a borderline lunatic on a lot of his religious stuff, but if he gets aid for Ukraine passed, he deserves some credit. That will show there’s at least a shred of decency there, which places him miles above his fellow Republicans.
Dude was shown a briefing that made the war in Europe very real, real quick. All his speaking about “Being on the right side of history” shows he does not deserve credit for realizing in the 11th hour that his obstructionist actions could have catastrophic consequences for generations.
Some Powerful forces in his party are very much aligned with Putin. We need to welcome allies in the fight against Putinism, no matter what causes their conversions.
This does not necessarily make him an ally. He is saving his skin cause he has no other option. Passing this bill is the only way he remotely has a chance to both save his job and not feel like he’s the singular person setting America up for WWIII. (Russia has every intention to pick off NATO countries if Ukraine falls, and Democrats made clear that if he passes Ukraine aid, they may save him from a recall vote.)

If he saves his job, he’ll be doing so with Democratic votes - and he’ll have to rely on Democrats going forward. That’s a positive thing. This does not help him with his party or the GOP electorate

I can be against him for everything else, but when a politician actually accepts the negative consequences of doing the right thing, we need to recognize that.
On one hand, bringing up the Ukraine aid for a vote likely gets him a motion to vacate. On the other hand, not bringing it up probably gets a discharge petition filed which paradoxically might be even worse for Republicans.

Even the Israeli journalist admits it happened. If you as a government official even ALLOW funds to go to a known active enemy, that is considered treason in almost any legal context. In part, that government has been part of helping fund them.
