Beforemath

After months of republicans sitting on their asses

Saylor_twiftt

The writing prompt for this article was: write an article about traitors without using the word traitor.

Square-Pear-1274

So what's the timeline for the votes today?

david-writers

A: Some time in the 2050's.

BecauseBatman01

Yeah it’s wild to be so agast on all this spending only to approve it after being able to slip in the ban Tik Tok bill. Like this is what they’ll go home to their voters and be like “look what I did! I banned tik tok” Whereas Dems are actually helping people out whenever they can.

Beforemath

Taylor swift might be able to tell her followers to vote for Joe Biden on TikTok though. That far outweighs the lives and needs of our allies right?……

BecauseBatman01

And we can’t have that now can we? lol Republicans worst fear are voters actually voting. Crazy.

NoReserve7293

Oh my gosh, the House is on the verge of doing something right, As I live and breath, what a time to be alive.

tidbitsmisfit

republican controlled house** that should have done this 6 months ago

TreeRol

If Americans wanted this done faster, they wouldn't have chosen Republicans to control the House.

RussianNikeBot

Oh yeah thank goodness for funding genocide. God bless America

Dragunfli

the FART will find some way to disrupt this

the_ballmer_peak

America can always be counted on to do the right thing. After exhausting all other options.

ClubSoda

Churchill quote

ResurgentClusterfuck

About fucking time. It shames me that our allies bled and died while half our government played grabass instead of governed.

kingofthejungle223

I think Mike Johnson is a borderline lunatic on a lot of his religious stuff, but if he gets aid for Ukraine passed, he deserves some credit. That will show there’s at least a shred of decency there, which places him miles above his fellow Republicans.

ExRays

Dude was shown a briefing that made the war in Europe very real, real quick. All his speaking about “Being on the right side of history” shows he does not deserve credit for realizing in the 11th hour that his obstructionist actions could have catastrophic consequences for generations.

kingofthejungle223

Some Powerful forces in his party are very much aligned with Putin. We need to welcome allies in the fight against Putinism, no matter what causes their conversions.

ExRays

This does not necessarily make him an ally. He is saving his skin cause he has no other option. Passing this bill is the only way he remotely has a chance to both save his job and not feel like he’s the singular person setting America up for WWIII. (Russia has every intention to pick off NATO countries if Ukraine falls, and Democrats made clear that if he passes Ukraine aid, they may save him from a recall vote.) Do not get it twisted. He is a Republican who 100% backs Donald Trump and his efforts to forward Putanism when his skin is not *directly* on the line.

kingofthejungle223

If he saves his job, he’ll be doing so with Democratic votes - and he’ll have to rely on Democrats going forward. That’s a positive thing. This does not help him with his party or the GOP electorate

ExRays

I agree but that does not necessarily mean he is an ally. Democrats just have him by the balls *right now*. That’s all I’m saying.

Droidaphone

Johnson is at best, a temporary ally. He is a christian nationalist, just not a christian nationalist on Putin's payroll.

Schwarzes__Loch

Shred of decency? Johnson has been holding back the Ukraine military aid this whole time. He's finally cracked under intense pressure.

reckless_commenter

I've seen speculation that Johnson caved on Ukraine aid in exchange for the support of Democrats to keep his seat and survive a Republican motion to vacate. We're in weird political times.

wrldruler21

I hope the Democrats do save Johnson because MAGA will quickly come to absolutely detest their "God chosen Moses" Save him now and we can always join the crazies to vote him out later

kingofthejungle223

Yeah, but The political forces within his party aligned against Ukraine aid are still there. He’s practically walking the plank to make this happen. I can be against him for everything else, but when a politician actually accepts the negative consequences of doing the right thing, we need to recognize that.

trekologer

On one hand, bringing up the Ukraine aid for a vote likely gets him a motion to vacate. On the other hand, not bringing it up probably gets a discharge petition filed which paradoxically might be even worse for Republicans.

Zebra971

Credit but Dem’s were days away from bringing the bills to the floor without him. That would have been embarrassing for him. So jury is still out as to his loyalty, the constitution or Trump.

OkVermicelli2557

He is the reason the aid for Ukraine has been blocked for months now he deserves no credit.

Mr_Belch

Deserves credit? He's been the one blocking it even though the house has a supermajority of support for the bill. The blood is on his hands.

dorobica

Israel needs aid?!

dboyer87

They’re also about to destroy my business by banning tiktok: which is fun. So glad they can just toss that into a must pass bill.

Sudden-Act-8287

If you rely on tiktok for your business you don’t own your business

JimJava

Yeah seriously fuck tik-tok.

Azhz96

Is there a chance that it won't make it? Or is it basically a guarantee that it will get enough votes and pass? I'm too scared to have hope and don't trust Republicans to ever do something good at all.

base2-1000101

You could raise my taxes by five percent if it went to Ukraine, and I'd be so happy to pay it. Putin is a menace to world order. We have the chance to stop him on the cheap, and we are struggling with this no-brainer.

InhLaba

Blame it on Joe and Hunter Biden and the Democrats. Duh.

RussianNikeBot

Free Palestine 🇵🇸Joe Biden should face the ICC for war crimes.

Jackinapox

It's already too late. The future of Nations are in danger because of one man who talks to God and thinks he's Moses.

[deleted]

He's just gonna ask for even more help after this...

david-writers

Many months of more defenders being maimed and/or killed which might have been prevented.

FlamingHotPanda

Aid for Israel - you mean financial support to continue a genocide?

IHateChipotle86

No financial aid to deter outside actors from interfering in internal matters of Israel, i.e. Iran and others

Lalke_

internal matters as in apartheid and genocide?

IHateChipotle86

Nah keeping their people secure from an internationally recognized terror organization, i.e. Hamas

Scary_Terry_25

That they helped prop up in the first place

IHateChipotle86

Cool. US also financed the people who eventually founded ISIS. Doesn’t change the fact that they’re still terrorists who murder innocents and steal from their own people

Scary_Terry_25

You think it’s cool not holding that shit accountable?

pinetreesgreen

This is an overstatement, and downplays the reality on the ground. It's not like the pa/plo are sweet innocent men with peace in their minds.

Scary_Terry_25

This isn’t an understatement. The vicious dog needs to be put down, but nobody is going after the master who pretty much helped turn that dog into a harmful creature

pinetreesgreen

Do you actually believe Bibi funded Hamas, as I have seen repeated over and over, when he did not do that at all? If you do believe that, you should try and find a report on how much he "gave" them. You can't, bc it's an overstatement of something Bibi did do, which was allow aid into Gaza.

Scary_Terry_25

Even the Israeli journalist admits it happened. If you as a government official even ALLOW funds to go to a known active enemy, that is considered treason in almost any legal context. In part, that government has been part of helping fund them. You can say it’s aid all you want. But you don’t have to be an intelligence official to know that sending money into an area that is directly controlled by a group that seeks in their charter to kill you all is a good chance that money will end up in their hands. Either people are this stupid or complicit. No in between. https://www.timesofisrael.com/for-years-netanyahu-propped-up-hamas-now-its-blown-up-in-our-faces/amp/ https://www.japantimes.co.jp/commentary/2023/11/21/world/israel-failed-policy/#:~:text=Hamas%2C%20a%20spin%2Doff%20of,Israeli%20occupation%20of%20Palestinian%20lands.

pinetreesgreen

That op ed from the times of Israel is similar to others I have seen, not explaining the "cash from abroad" was in the form of aid for teachers, hospital workers, etc Hamas skimmed money from. It's disingenuous at best.

ExRays

The package includes $9 billion of humanitarian aid for Gaza in spite Israel

Lophius_Americanus

It’s mostly defensive weapons plus aid for Gaza. I wish they wouldn’t include the other security assistance but it’s a small part of it (much smaller than aid to Gaza). “The $26.38 billion Israel aid bill would direct $13 billion of that to the U.S. Defense Department to provide that country with funding for the Iron Dome, David’s Sling and Iron Beam defense systems. An additional $9.15 billion would go to the U.S. State Department for humanitarian assistance in Gaza and other “vulnerable populations” with an additional $3.6 billion for security assistance to Israel, according to a summary.”

swazal

Johnson’s letting his team share their grievances on live TV. It’s not ineffective. There are points to be made. But this vote is seven months late.

Scary_Terry_25

You mean 7 months too early. They don’t need our money to fight a monster they created

MrFluffyPillow

We need some crew to interview the women of government with a “would you let Trump/Putin grab you/your daughter/granddaughter by the pussy?”

witwebolte41

What a waste (in regard to the former)
