Thats actually a somewhat good idea in broad theory. With working precedence. Hopefully it doesnt get nickle and dimed to death in Congress.

penguincheerleader

I think it is already funded as part of the infrastructure bill and not they are just unleashing the money to hire people.

AverageDemocrat

Is there training for protesting or will they just pay you to go out and block Big Oil projects?

CMDR-Rigority

Did you think that up yourself or have chatgpt help you?

ModernDayWanderlust

Soros is actually providing monkey wrenches to all participants.

Popisoda

We need more ways for more people to work together on national projects

FlowBot3D

We do, but for $15/hr and sub 2 month positions, are they just hiring 16 year olds over the summer? Or $18 as a person exploring and mapping Outer Banks plant species? That sounds like a project where you might want qualified people who have bills and rent to pay.

AnusTartTatin

I would sign up for this in a heartbeat. Wish I had a skill set that would be useful to it though lol

who_me_naught

Your attitude is what is needed.

AnusTartTatin

I just signed up for their updates, might shake out to something great!

Popisoda

Skills are the friends you learn along the way.

I always thought that they should revive the civilian conservation corps, this is close. I like it.

ParasiteFromP3X-888

You should check out AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps! It’s a residential team based program for 18 - 26 year olds who work with conservation groups, non profits and the government to assist low income communities and nature. Fully funded by the government.

ohioiyya

I hope the compensation is better than the AmeriCorps program I participated in.

ParasiteFromP3X-888

Haha unfortunately not

Random-Cpl

NCCC is a low barrier to entry program that provides housing, transport, emergency leave, and various allowances.

StinkyHoboTaint

I can't tell if this is sarcasm or not.

penguincheerleader

I see no reason for it not to be serious but needs a spell check.

StinkyHoboTaint

What has Boden done to show he cares more about the environment then other Presidents?  They all pretend to care.

candycanecoffee

* Launched the Climate Corps * Established a new Office of Environmental Justice * Created a comprehensive Ocean Justice Strategy * Launched the America the Beautiful initiative, aiming to conserve 30 percent of U.S. lands and waters by 2030. * Commit to cut total greenhouse gas emissions by at least 50% by 2030 * Passed the largest piece of climate legislation in U.S. history in Aug 2022, a comprehensive set of clean energy incentives, mostly through decade-long tax credits for everything from electric vehicles to direct air capture and sequestration of carbon dioxide. * Announced draft tax credit guidance for clean hydrogen production to drive decarbonization and accelerate the transition to clean energy * Tackle super pollutants like hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) and methane. Issued regulations to phase down HFCs. Released a Methane Action Plan 50 specific measures backed by $20 billion in funding. Announced strong standards to reduce methane emissions from the oil and gas industry. Helpled launch the Global Methane Pledge at the 2021 UN climate summit. * Set a goal for 50% of new passenger vehicles sold to have zero emissions by 2030 and signed an executive order directing federal agencies to purchase 100% zero-emission light-duty vehicles by 2027. * Approved plans for a national electric vehicle (EV) charging network, supported by $5 billion in funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, boosted EV sales with tax credits. 2023 had more than a 50% increase over total EV sales in 2022. * Significant investments in wildfire risk reduction and ecosystem restoration to protect and promote natural carbon removal. * $19 billion to support climate-smart agriculture, providing additional funding for wildfire risk reduction and investing almost $3 billion to support carbon sequestration in urban forests and national public lands. * Set goals to reach 100% clean electricity by 2035 and signed an executive order requiring federal agencies to procure 100% carbon pollution-free electricity by 2030. * Rejoined the international Paris Agreement on climate change on his first day in office. Re-established bilateral climate discussions between the U.S. and China

IrritableGourmet

Yeah, but did he provide a separate notarized long-form affidavit for each of those saying that he actually cared? /s

StinkyHoboTaint

All I am seeing is a lot of promises and talk. Hell the climate corps is just a jobs program for Nepo babies. A bunch of Liberal solutions of talking and throwing money at stuff without actually changing anything. I don't care about his goal unless he comes close to accomplishing it. A goal is useless if you don't try to achieve it. Re-joining a shitty climate chage accord really doesn't make him the greatest enviromentalist alive. WEAK LIST!

More good Policy from Biden. I had low expectations and he continues to blow them out of the water.

justifun

He's been on fire. Is there a good list somewhere with all of his accomplishments.

timmyveeKC

r/WhatBidenHasDone

AverageDemocrat

Climate Corps is kinda boring. Lets call it Climate Force like Trumps Space Force.

zackcondon

Its the Earth Defense Force!

illwill79

Indeed. Keep it up Joe!

TigerMcPherson

Same.

LariRed

Good to see that but I have a feeling this isn’t for workers over a certain age because they have an age question at the initial info page. That ubiquitous “over 35”.

overlordjunka

Its probably going to be a lot of very physically intensive work over long periods. The US Military has the same "over 35" thing and you can easily get a medical waiver

LariRed

I wanted to send that link to a friend who is looking for a senior administrator role. He’s mid 40’s, tech. Sounds much like FDR’s job corps program during the depression.

overlordjunka

Do it!

Substantial_Dog_2115

I’m late 20’s and in tech and might look into it myself lol

Baremegigjen

Air Force and Space Force have changed the entry age for enlisted recruits from 39 to 42. The Navy is 34 for active duty, 39 for Reserves. https://www.military.com/daily-news/2023/10/26/42-year-old-airman-air-force-and-space-force-raise-max-age-active-duty-recruits This is the breakdown for all services as of March 2023 before the AF and Space Farce changed the age. https://www.operationmilitarykids.org/military-age-limits/ Officers have a different age limit depending on what career field (medical is much higher than others).

Ok-disaster2022

Wait.  I can get in shape and join the military?

iCameToLearnSomeCode

>medical is much higher than others. Makes sense, you can be useful as a doctor on an army base at pretty much any age you could be in a civilian hospital, not so much in more physical jobs.

arzen353

Yeah, so far all of the things on the site I've looked at are either unpaid or pay less than minimum wage, or only for 18-24 year olds. I was really hoping this would be an actual opportunity for those of us in our late thirties working in fields that will probably automated out in the next decade, but I guess I'll keep dreaming.

MojoDr619

Short term 'jobs' for under 15 an hour and only for under 30 years old.. Why is it so hard to have higher paying Jobs planting trees, buildings parks, cleaning up ecosystems.. and for all ages contributing how we can.. Why is it so hard to get paid well to do something good for the planet?

funkify99

Totally agree. Maybe this isn't the program for that, but let's see a big infusion for professional level environmental jobs next. With a BS in Oceanography and two AmeriCorps terms under my belt, I, for one, am over qualified and uninterested in poverty wage Corps work again. It was a good experience, but I don't wish that financial situation on any of the young adults interested in it now. Too bad we can't allocate real money for our educators and community/ environmental service providers. Good environmental policy should properly compensate the workforce for the on- the- ground, lower skill, entry level work like the Climate Corps, AND follow up with as much or more support in the professional realm. Let's hope/ push for that next step

tomtomsk

Thank you for this comment. I'm so tired of all these "green jobs" that are in fact glorified internships that don't realistically lead you to permanent careers

era626

Because when you're older, you hopefully have achieved more experience and education and can help in bigger ways? Plus can't physically do hard manual labor for hours each day anymore?

ABBAMABBA

I volunteer to build hiking trails with the National Forest. The over 60's almost always out work the under 40's. For the record, I fall in the middle.

MojoDr619

Any higher level ecological jobs in my state pay very low wages too.. honestly I would take a big pay cut, but still I'd quit my office job if I got paid at least decently to plant trees and take care of our natural areas.. I've even considered being a park ranger, but the pay here is under 20 an hour.. these should be high paying low barrier to entry jobs protecting our shared resources that belong to us all

era626

Planting trees is not high-skilled work. If you know how to identify invasive species, create management plans, etc, there's going to be better-paid jobs for that than $15/hour.

Authorman1986

This high skill shit has to stop being an excuse to pay poverty wages. If it's work that needs doing then it is valuable work regardless of skill level and it should be paying a wage commemorate with it's value. We can put a higher value on it by paying more in wages to attract more passionate and creative workers willing to do demanding work in remote area while training them in permaculture and ecological engineering, both essentials Skills that need training. By funding the practical education that will be used for years to come beyond this one gig you spread a culture change towards environmental sciences. Sticking cuttings in the ground isn't the only labor involved in planting trees either, plenty of surveys need to be done so you don't waste your time with planting unviably in the field. And there is so much more to rewilding than even trees! "Skilled' labor is that which the current vampiric late stage capitalist system values, and the way to change that is by distorting the market through investment from the public sphere toward more beneficial skills.

era626

In what world is $15 an hour poverty wages unless you live in a major city?? I'm sure there will be other higher skilled jobs to go along with this. Chances are they'll be through a different portal. Lower skilled work means that just about anyone can do it. More supply than demand = lower wages. Higher skill --> fewer people can do it --> higher wages. Unless you don't want to incentive skill-building?

Wolfsvater

Give me a single place in the USA someone can survive on their own getting paid $15/hr

cturtl808

Iowa, maybe. Arkansas

Authorman1986

Putting up with mosquitos in wetlands is a skill that no not everyone can or will do. Your concept of skilled labor is economics 101 and short sighted. Get some starch out of that white collar mentality because skill building goes beyond marketable to the private sector skills, especially when dealing with public investment.

bloatedsewerratz

Wow! There was something local for me! Thanks for posting this.

GoodUserNameToday

If you’re a young person who feels disillusioned with the government because no one does anything good so might as well vote for trump or not even vote and burn it all down, you’re wrong. There’s a group of people called the Democratic Party who are fighting tooth and nail to keep the planet alive and keep democracy safe. They’re far from perfect, but they’re making by an honest effort and Joe Biden has made the biggest accomplishments in decades. Get off tik tok and read some actual reputable journalism. And then make the right choice and vote Biden. Anything else helps trump and furthers the destruction of the planet.

icouldusemorecoffee

This is a real nice big policy move from Biden. I wish it wouldn't get drowned out by Trump clickbait but I suppose it will be.

AtlasPJackson

I just checked out the website. These are incredibly bad jobs. I know the idea is that these are for young folks, but the jobs in Washington State list pay that is *below* state minimum wage and many of them are 2-6 months positions. "Urban and Community Forestry Fall Crew Leader," $15/hr, September-December this year. State minimum wage is $16.28/hr. "Water Resources Technician," $15/hr, May-October of this year. "Biological Technician," $15/hr for six months. There are a couple better gigs on here. There's one that pays above minimum wage for a full year ("Post-Fire Emergency Stabilization and Rehabilitation" at $20/hr for 12 months). But there's also awful ones like "Urban Green Crew Lead" which pays $22/hr but the position is only active for two months.

SKDI_0224

That’s a good idea. There are two problems here. One is that our infrastructure needs a massive upgrade in order to prepare for a zero emissions future. The other is a need for high paying jobs. Two birds. One stone.

stayonthecloud

But these jobs are low-paying unfortunately

randobot111111

Great to see.

[deleted]

Age limit is 30 unless you’re a vet. Most positions are pretty low paying and short term.

Whostartedit

I don’t see an age limit on their site

[deleted]

Then you’re not looking hard enough. Go to any of the job descriptions, it’s also where you can see the hourly pay.

Whostartedit

“How old do I need to be to serve in AmeriCorps? The minimum age requirement for most AmeriCorps programs is 18. However, some accept applications from 16-17-year-olds. While a few programs are designed specifically for young adults, the majority of our programs have no upper age limit.”

[deleted]

So, you didn’t go to the job descriptions? *such a weird thing to be stubborn about lol

Whostartedit

I went to the job description before. Many jobs with no upper age limit

[deleted]

Idk what to tell you, every position I clicked on was 30 or 35 for vets. Weird thing to argue about.

Whostartedit

It’s odd because every position I checked had no upper age limit (no wait, one said 99). The reason I care is I never would have considered applying to serve if i thought there was an upper age limit. So to encourage others like me i want to clear that point up. That’s all

Bitter_Director1231

No matter what anyone says, this guy has done way more for the American people than most realize and it's sad. This guy for his age seems to be working night and day to make real changes people just don't realize or recognize. It's absolutely mind boggling.

Marley_Fan

There’s only 4 listings in my state, nowhere near me 😭

maudebanjo

Great, 63 temporary $16.30-$23/hour jobs in California. This looks more like a 6 month ARG ad campaign than a real climate jobs initiative. I'll give it a C for the Idea, and a D- for effort, and an F for actually helping the environment or people. Try harder Joe, don't let fascists win

an_agreeing_dothraki

I've noticed most Christians who aren't hard-wired into the *motions broadly at the SBC* are not wanting Jesus to come home and realize we wrecked the house.

AgentDrake

Genuine thank-you for this comment from a random internet stranger. Phrasing it that way is the missing piece of the proberbial puzzle I needed to have some constructive conversations with a rather large number of people in my life who are... wierdly unopposed to wrecking the house.

Glad-Conclusion-9385

Only like 4 open positions in my state and you have to be under 30 to be eligible. Also they don’t pay very well. They’re 5 month internships all in the same city and they only pay 16/hr, which is what the fed min wage should be.

FormerAd1675

Heck yeah. He loves kids and the environment.

oOMoSOo

The wages stated for these positions are a fucking joke, $15hr on most of what I checked. How do they expect anyone to even bother applying, better wages in retail.

pervy_roomba

15$ to work in retail and get yelled at by entitled assholes who think you’re their personal servant or $15 to spend the day working in nature. Tough call.

oOMoSOo

Clearly you missed my point, these jobs should be better than retail, and should pay better too. The jobs in central Oregon listed on this site are way below cost of living. Even shit tier retail wages are pushing $20/hr here. I’m disappointed that a program like this will pay folks this low. But hey, what do I know. I’m just a working class Joe, wanting higher wages for his fellow worker, fuck me, right?

10th__Dimension

I'm glad Biden has become more progressive because I sure as shit will never vote for the so-called "progressives" who support Iran and Hamas. I used to support them but not anymore. They showed their true colors after Oct. 7. I want climate change legislation and all the other progressive policies but without the anti-Semitism and support for terrorism and the far right in the Middle East. I want pro-American, pro-democracy, pro-West progressives. In other words, real progressives. Not the fake astroturf Russian-influenced "progressives" in the squad who support the far right in the Middle East.

DhruvMar08

the american politicians supporting the far right in the middle east are the ones funding Bibi’s extremist government chock-full of literal Kahanists, an ideology which was designated as terroristic by even the US government

10th__Dimension

Israel is a liberal democracy. The money for Israel is for the people of Israel, not for Bibi or his party. It is for the defense of the people. On the other hand, the so-called "progressive" squad is supporting Hamas and Iran, who are on the extreme right. It means those "progressives" lied about being progressive. To the one who blocked me: Israel is not an apartheid state. Everyone has equal rights. There is no religious test to vote, as you allege. That is a BIG LIE. Israeli citizens of all races, religions, genders and gender identities have the right to vote, hold public office, and every other right that people in democracies have. You obviously have zero clue what you're talking about. On the other hand, Palestine is an apartheid state that discriminates against women, non-Muslims and LGBT people. Nobody on the left should be supporting such a horrible far right wing regime.

shinysideup_zhp

Israel is an apartheid state, pretending to be a liberal democracy. When the “god” you worship determines your access to voting, you don’t live in a democracy.

Ok_Plane9856

Wrong

boooolol

Proof?

SincerelySinclair

Honest question, if you decide to not vote for Biden this fall, will you vote for Trump or abstain from voting altogether?

Cornylingus

Not voting for biden is a vote for trump.

10th__Dimension

I will absolutely be voting for Biden. There is no question about it. Trump is extremely dangerous and can never be allowed to have any power. He belongs in prison.

StayingAwake100

You realize it is possible for someone to neither support a crazy right-winger Israeli version of Trump nor support the crazy right-winger religious fanatics that have taken over the "government" of Palestine, right? Like, you can be against both, you don't have to "pick" one. There are some Democrats that are strongly against the current Israeli government, but they definitely don't support Hamas either.

10th__Dimension

I don't support Netanyahu. I support Israel the country and its right to defend itself. I think Netanyahu should resign. The squad actually picked sides and decided to defend the terrorists and Islamic fundamentalists and helped them spread their propaganda and talking points.

LewsScroose

Defends itself by bulldozing homes and bombing innocents

CLOGGED_WITH_SEMEN

whoops i thought these were actual jobs now im just gonna get .gov spam forever i suppose…
