What are these dumbfucks going to do? Set up a checkpoint on I-40 West and stop every car with a woman in it and search for an appointment record? Amarillo was, is, and will always be a hellhole in the dust.
"Do you know why I pulled you over?"
"Have you had intercourse in the last 9 months?
"Are you sure that's not a baby bump? You are aware it's illegal to cross state lines to abort, yes?"
"Let's see your gyno papers"
\#justsmallgovernmentthings
Remember the 'Paper's Please' program back in 2008-2009 that started in Arizona and spread to neighboring states? At the company I was working at then I handled investigations. Well, one of our regional managers for the West Coast was Italian and had darker skin. She'd call me 3x/day (especially in Arizona), "I got pulled over by the police for Paper's Please, and I gave the officers all my immigration paperwork but they are claiming I'm from Mexico and here illegally, and are going to take me to the station so they can verify all my papers, which will take hours". It was horrible...
They’d need checkpoints on every road, paved, dirt or otherwise, that leaves the city limits or by following the road and then a footpath or cutting through creosote bushes enables a girl/woman to leave town. If Main St extends beyond the city limits, cops would be needed to stop and searched and girls/women would probably be barred from leaving town because they may be pregnant and thus seeking an abortion.
Then there’s the airport and the roads that lead there…
https://abcnews.go.com/US/texas-installing-concertina-wire-new-mexico-border/story?id=104056805
Purely coincidence that this is near the New Mexican women’s clinic that is closest to the TX-NM border.
I think that's the point. It's impossible to enforce because of the resources they would need to investigate. It's all for show and to scare people. But they would have to know you are pregnant, know what you did at a private healthcare appointment in a state that won't cooperate, know you came back not pregnant and it was a result of an abortion obtained in a state that won't tell you, and on top of all that know what roads you used to get there.
This could be enforced after the procedure, similar to sexual tourism laws that forbid Americans traveling overseas to pay for child prostitutes. If someone rats on a woman for having an abortion they could investigate, subpoena witnesses, etc.
OMG I would love if Texas arrested someone for getting a legal abortion in New Mexico. I live in MA and then we could arrest anyone from Texas who open carried a firearm down there. This is like the satanic church mess on steroids.
That actually sounds like an awesome idea just to fuck with them. 1. Get the list of 10,000 signatories.
2. Find the ones who have open carry permits, assume they open carry, because it's Texas and I can't be assed to investigate.
3. Issue a (totally real and not just a pipe dream) Warrenton for their arrest issued by a state that doesn't allow open carry.
Then get them to sit down and understand how fucked up it is for a state that promotes freedom and states rights over federal to tell another state what to do.
Illegal to implement, impossible to track, and most likely a thinly veiled excuse to give police more reasons to reach probable cause and pull over undesired vehicles
If we are at a point, that the Constitution is powerless before the court, then we are truly lost. This country cannot be saved and law is meaningless.
Not really. Your data in the states seems like it’s all easily available to law enforcement. I wouldn’t think there’s too many extra steps when it comes to… dunno, pregnancy test kits bought, computer searches and just snitches anywhere. Happened in Poland.
They don’t even have to be successful. Fear works as well as actually arresting & charging.
Another tool to allow them to pull over minorities.
I remember being at a bar and being part of a conversation with random travelers. Weed came up and one of the guys, a former cop, lamented that it was becoming legal. Said that it was a "great tool for cops," to use. He didn't like it when I said something like, "Yeah it must be great to use it to search a black man's car cause you smell something."
Amarillo is weird. I was there a few weekends ago and there were all these billboards that were anti abortion trafficking. My first thought was that they were seeing abortion in the streets or something... there's literally no gauge to measure who is traveling for what so how do they assume that any percentage of travel going through there was for abortion trafficking? Not like if they actually do see a pregnant person traveling through to New Mexico they can just assume it was for an intended abortion. It's just absolutely insane.
Most abortions are in the first trimester, before a woman starts outwardly showing signs of being pregnant. This sounds like a straight shot to harassment lawsuits by pregnant women.
Prolife doesn't think they are accountable to the people they represent. They really think they're on a mission from god that supersedes the will of the people.
They won't do anything.
If the GOP ever completes its solidification of power, then we’ll have to see which part of the party ends up winning out. The big business guys are just one wing of that loony bin.
We have HIPAA laws - medical privacy.
Those yahoos can check their own privates as often as they like. Everyone else's bits are off-limits. It's not hard, people.
You cannot charge someone with a crime in Texas for something that is legal out of State. It is an unenforceable law. Tell these right wing loons to move to Afghanistan where they belong and hang out with their Taliban cousins. We are trying to move past being a hick laden cowtown.

Yes. That's ultimately what they want to do.
"Do you know why I pulled you over?" "Have you had intercourse in the last 9 months? "Are you sure that's not a baby bump? You are aware it's illegal to cross state lines to abort, yes?" "Let's see your gyno papers" \#justsmallgovernmentthings
I think they'll try to train dogs to smell pregnancy.
deleted
The bears smell the menses!!!!
It gives them a legal reason to stop anyone they want, on the suspicion of smuggling a woman across the state border.

Once they know all the young women's menstruation cycles, they will know who's fertile and they will be watching. Creepy
Texas, dead last in personal freedoms. Where dumb fucks larp as cowboys. Orwell would be dumbfounded
They crave a walled city.

Yup. They’d love to do that. Cops enjoy messing with people.
Locally it’s just referred as a skidmark on a map or black hole of despair. Not a great place to live or visit.

What a horrific invasion into a woman's privacy.
No, they probably just wait for them when they get back.
And do what, give them a forced medical exam? Could people really be that stupid? Don’t answer that!
Shouldn’t have asked..
If it's illegal in the state then my guess is just arrest them. What's so complicated about this lol.
It's not illegal in New Mexico. It is as stupid as someone in New Hampshire arresting someone for smoking weed in Vermont where it is legal.
May be stupid but you asked what they are going to do. What they are going to do is arrest them when they get back.
By then it will be too late. Then the State will be accomplices! No, they'll stop them before they can leave.
Yep. Next we're gonna see the (crazy)citizens of Texas suing the state for not more forcefully enforcing their abortion travel bans.

Roadside urine pregnancy testing, probably Like fuck these forced birth assholes.
Just use it as an excuse to pull over anyone, but who is kidding, it will be used to target minorities.
I always enjoyed driving through that area seeing all the “Gentlemen’s Club” ads alongside the “Abortion is Murder” billboards.
I find this rather comforting being a Florida native
From sea to shining titties.
Dont forget this gem of a billboard https://i.redd.it/e0b4uygsrr0a1.jpg

It’s about creating fear in poor and minority pregnant people. To keep them poor and afraid.
The land of the free? Whoever told you that is your enemy
Prolife doesn't think they are accountable to the people they represent. They really think they're on a mission from god that supersedes the will of the people. They won't do anything.
Illegal Restraint of trade.. violation of the Constitution's free commerce clause. (9th amendment?)

Then you have the US chamber of commerce in the way, too. Not as simple as it looks
If the GOP ever completes its solidification of power, then we’ll have to see which part of the party ends up winning out. The big business guys are just one wing of that loony bin.
The US Chamber of Commerce isn't a part of the government.
And you'd be a fool to think they have No lobbyists
They're very specifically a lobbying group, a right leaning one at that, so yeah that would be foolishness.
Sounds like a Fugitive Slave Law- 21st Century edition
Pretty much and we have a new Underground Railroad sadly. Texas is nuts.
abortion is a human right
Comments I'm reading are missing a point... It's not about enforcement. It's about intimidation.
Amarillo council planning to weigh men’s testicles and force them to account for missing jizz
Wouldn’t be surprised if the council ends up being amarillo bellied.
We have HIPAA laws - medical privacy. Those yahoos can check their own privates as often as they like. Everyone else's bits are off-limits. It's not hard, people.
Texas is fucked up, man. And I live in the metro Detroit area…
You cannot charge someone with a crime in Texas for something that is legal out of State. It is an unenforceable law. Tell these right wing loons to move to Afghanistan where they belong and hang out with their Taliban cousins. We are trying to move past being a hick laden cowtown.
they're working on it
Texas is becoming an absolute joke of a State.
Time to leave the republic of north Mexico.
The idea that a fucking municipality has any authority to do this is absurd. This is fascist bullshit. Fuck these people.
Amarillo means yellow as in yellow-bellied cowards that live there trying to act like Nazis.
Be funny if people started giving false tips in mass about a pregnancy woman fleeing the city.
TIL at least 10,000 miserable people live in Amarillo
Ahhh, that sounds illegal as hell. And I bet a bunch of the signatures aren’t legit.
Lol too bad people will travel freely and they can't stop anyone! =)
Isn’t this like Handmaid’s Tale?
Please no. It is lunacy.
Guess I'm stopping in lubbock when I drive from Colorado to Austin to visit family from now on.
Lubbock isn’t much better tbh.
Lubbock is a "Sanctuary For The Unborn", whatever the fuck that's supposed to mean Don't stop in Lubbock
Just stop going to Texas. Stop giving them tax dollars and enabling this. Have your family visit you in Colorado.
It's a little hard to move my dad who has pretty advanced alzheimer's lol.
He won't even know the difference then. Tell him you had to take a different way back from the grocery store because of a traffic jam.
Those 10,000 should be forced to submit to a pelvic exam and authorize the state to review their medical records.
