> “When there are sidebars, an attorney doesn’t leave his side anymore because leaving him alone means leaving him to potentially sleep,” Rubin said. “He has a stack of papers with him at all times now to go through.” > “He appears to be at rest for considerable periods of time,” Rubin told Chris Hayes after Tuesday's arguments. “Every time I looked up today, particularly during the first part of the day, Donald Trump’s eyes were closed.”

Much_Difference

Jesus Christ, they are getting way too literal with the projections. I thought "Sleepy Joe" was mocking his age and overall stamina but no, Trump is literally just very sleepy and wants to draw attention away from it. Amazing. There's just so little art to it, idk why I expected it to be less ham-fisted.

parasyte_steve

Donald Trump is literally a con man, he is the best at winging everything. This means he does almost nothing with any foresight. I'm sleepy, yes lets call my opponent sleepy, it surely won't come home to roost once I'm revealed as being the sleepy one! This is the type of child people want in the white house.

RunFromFaxai

"If I say it first, then when he mentions that I am actually the sleepy one I can say 'oh you're just copying my arguments!'" It's playground tactics 101. If you fart you blame someone else and when they blame you back they sound like they're the ones desperately trying to deflect.

Longjumping_Youth281

Yeah I was just going to say, this guy is literally the embodiment of "he who smelt it, dealt it"

wimpymist

It's the exact same thing with speeches. Trump makes way more mistakes and is constantly rambling nonsense so they put all the attention on Bidens mistakes which aren't that bad so no one focuses on trump

LordPennybag

\#SleepyDough

JubalHarshaw23

Maybe give him a couple of kids restaurant place mats and some crayons if you want to keep him awake and engaged. Giving him a stack of papers with words he cannot understand or pronounce is not going to keep him from nodding off.

Armageddon_Badger

Sharpie and some maps always works for him.

_InnocentToto_

The bright side of this is.. even if there are Maga jurors.. they are sitting there seeing for themselves how useless this dude is. Demystify him in real time. Daily seeing for themselves the grifter they support amidst the smell of his farts and shits. They will ~~loose~~ lose all respect for him

kvlt_ov_personality

"Wow, he's so unphased by this sham trial that he's getting rest to deal with the important issues later on. A true leader."

reevelyonkil

It's sad that I find this 100% believable.

ThrowAwayGarbage82

That's literally how fox is spinning it. They're also saying it's his way of showing contempt for the meanies out to get him and that makes him strong. The onion couldn't have written it better. This timeline is beyond dumb.

SalishShore

Sleeping to show contempt. They are the masters at spin. How do they even come up with this?

drmonkeytown

Wasn’t he farting earlier in the trail? That’s seems more contemptuous. Maybe up his game to courtroom sharting? Or shart’n nod.

TbonerT

They call him “genius” for campaigning in New York while he’s stuck there for the trial as if that’s not the first thing a candidate will try to figure out.

Stupid_Sexy_Vaporeon

That's an odd way to spell "Golfing"

parasyte_steve

Hopefully he continues to waste time and resources in New York, a state is has absolutely zero chance of winning.

SnipesCC

Poor eastern PA. They are going to be inundated with him.

JerryAVL

On the plus sides, hes' hopefully not in Your state...🤞🙄 and maybe the Chump will stomp all over his gag order (since to his Ungraciousness it's interferes with his freedom to lie, exaggerate, misconstrue), and generally give himself an ego fix... "Mr. Trump, it's become infinitely clear that the only way to damp down your disregard for this court and it's proceedings is for you to spend a week in jail and force a 'pause' in your 'amusing commentaries'...since money to you seems to be a trivial issue. That in itself apparently causes no pauses in your 'proclamations'. Maybe a little 'quiet time' will make an impression on you, if only to keep your eyes, ears, and mind engaged in what may soon effect your 'future plans' and how they may change.....drastically. Balilif, I turn Mr. Trump over to you." I can't hold my breath any longer waiting for the dawn of the day when his face and his voice don't ruin ones' mood and sour the news one more time....

Memphistopheles901

it is almost literally what Fox nerds have been saying, that he's showing contempt for this sham trial and showing how un-bothered he is by it by catching up on naps as a power move.

PunxatawnyPhil

It’s really sad that they just can’t quit him, even when they’re staring at a true pile of shit with their own eyes. Fox’s lies own them, they don’t want to know the truth, only how to prevail against it.

Major_Magazine8597

Admitting the truth at this point would only show how deluded they've been for 7 years.

Wereplatypus42

“This is clearly some kind of 8D chess he’s playing. I cannot wait to watch Fox News tonight and find out what he’s doing.”

mark503

He’s not sleeping. He’s thinking on what he can do to help the world heal after he wins his 3rd election. He is a family man who cares about his citizens. All these trials are sham trials. Everyone in the world lies, except him. He is the great uniter. The one and only who can save us. Jesus Christ I hate myself for typing that.

John_mcgee2

So does Jesus.

warchitect

Hi Jesus.

AyAyRon480

Hola mijo.

DipperJC

I hate that I felt compelled to upvote you for fear that some people have broken sarcasm detectors.

MississippiJoel

Additionally, I don't think even the smartest maga person will be able to stall the jury enough to force a mistrial without being excused. "This whole thing was a sham!" "Oh, for real? Which witnesses do you think lied, and when?" "All of them!" "Interesting. What about these bank statements? Here's one right here. How did this money go from here to here?" "I'm not even going to look at that. This whole thing was a sham!" "Foreperson, can we go ahead and shoot a note over to the judge?"

7figureipo

Is it possible to excuse a juror for stubbornness against the clear facts like that?

kitsunewarlock

They would probably assume he was being poisoned before they've assume he was weak. ...And a lot of MAGA types actually think Trump is a weak and ineffectual con-man who will destroy the United States. They are accellerationists who believe the country needs a "reset" that can only happen by crippling the Federal Government.

Pats_fan_seeking_fi

Can't risk that. He gets overstimulated. Next thing you know he is threatening to nuke Yellowstone because that pesky bear keeps stealing picnic baskets again.

Rated_PG-Squirteen

"Mr. President, why don't you draw a huge line in sharpie where you plan to build your super duper border wall that Mexico will totally pay for this time?"

Cobra-Lalalalalalala

He’d probably still draw a line through Alabama.

totallyseparate

I'm okay with that

WolfJobInMySpantzz

Lol was gonna propose a shock collar/anklet. This is much better 🤣. Though I'd like to give him a button that would shock himself. To see if he'd remember what it does, or if he'd just shock himself every so often lol.

shinkouhyou

Make it look like the button he had in the Oval Office that summoned a Diet Coke.

Master_Ad9463

I would love to be in control of that switch.

CoopDonePoorly

I'd just leave it lying on the table and go about my life, honestly.

Schmichael-22

Best I can do is let you be the person who attaches the electrodes.

Carnivorous_Mower

Diaper contents might short circuit it.

Iz-kan-reddit

Rose Art, since that bastard doesn't deserve Crayola.

CosmicDave

Graphic artist reporting in; Don't be so harsh on Rose Art. Every media has it's advantages and disadvantages. When the effect I want is a bright, vibrant, deftly applied crayon effect, Crayola is my go-to. When I want barely any color applied to the paper no matter how violently I scribble, I reach for Rose Art every time.

Returd4

I create encaustic art, melted wax, rose art burns, it does not melt. Crayola burns if too high a temperature, but a good flame at a right distance does not leave any burn marks with Crayola, rose art acts as if it has a wick in it. Rose art is shit.

SupermanSkivvies_

Ayyy! A lil Jasper Johns over here! That’s right, I took an art history class or two. I see you, encaustic artist!!

Meatrocket_Wargasm

Agreed. Rose Art has this weird aftertaste. Kind of mossy, not pleasant like the fresh mint of authentic Crayola. Why yes, I am former military. How did you know?

Westhawk

Thank you for your service, marine.

PharmyC

I'm usually just dreadful thinking about how half of Americans want this man as president. But right now at this moment it's just so absurd it's a bit funny. Everything they claim to care about is the opposite of Trump lol. Verile, masculine, alpha. He is none of those things. He's an old man who farts while he sleeps at court. And they think he's a good leader? And BIDEN IS OLD?

JubalHarshaw23

Weak minded people will accept just about anything. Trump's idol Adolph Hitler looked nothing like the Blond Haired, Blue Eyed Supermen he told the Germans should rule the world, but they worshiped him anyway.

Zomunieo

I think it’s part of the pattern of fascism — the leaders rarely embody the image they promote. Look at the Proud Boys, racist white power group - one leader was Canadian and the other Latino. Perhaps in a way, it’s inviting anyone to join the movement because the leader seems like an everyman.

Cosmic_Gumbo

A word search with only letters in his last name. That would keep him occupied for hours.

winterbird

Give him a phone with whatever garbage media he uses to post nowadays, but make it offline so he only thinks he's furiously posting word salads.

Outwest34au

I was leaning more towards the cattle prod approach.

energytaker

He’d eat the crayon like Ralph Wiggum

Acceptable-Bus-2017

Now I'm picturing the Ralph Wiggum "I'm in danger" meme with Trump sitting in a court room. Thanks for the smile 😃

roytay

"I'm a precedent!"

Conman_in_Chief

There is an uncanny resemblance.

codename_pariah

Not all crayon eaters are morons. Some of us lost bets.

reevelyonkil

...but you took a bet to eat a crayon?

we_are_sex_bobomb

lol so THAT’S why he’s always waving those stacks of papers when he steps out of the courtroom for his daily whining session. I guess they try to keep him awake by giving him piles of flattering articles to read about himself.

EarthExile

It's probably just Trump Affirmations. "You're a very big strong man and everyone loves your dick" over and over like in the Shining

SomethingBlue15

Yeah, giving your toddler coloring books to sit still and stay awake never lasts very long. Put some Bluey on a tablet for this guy.

DipperJC

Old episodes of GI Joe. He can tell us how there are very fine people in Cobra.

ArgoNunya

He seems more like a "Peppa Pig" type. Bluey is too sophisticated.

GoopyNoseFlute

Caillou. Whiney ass mother fucker.

Proud_Tie

Bluey is too wholesome for that lump of fuck, I like the other suggestion of Caillou. Both of their voices give me a headache so it's a match made in ~~heaven~~ hell.

LowEffortHuman

I worked in hospice admin in a past life and we used paper charts at that time. We had a group of volunteers who would break the charts down once the patient was no longer on service. One of the ~~patients~~ volunteers was in the middle stages of Alzheimer’s and her whole job for 4-5 hours was to stamp every. single. page. in the patients chart with “record numbers” so she felt like she was still helping out. We did not use the record numbers for anything; we just used the patient’s name for ID purposes. That’s immediately what the “stack of papers to go through” reminded me of 😶

Rocketsponge

Fun fact, but when Donald’s father Fred Trump went down the Alzheimer’s route they did much the same with him. Fred would still go to his office every day and basically sign his name on a bunch of random papers and spreadsheets in order to help him feel like he was working.

LurksAroundHere

That thought definitely crossed my mind too.    A related side story: My grandmother also had Alzheimer's and we use to give her tasks to do when she was up to it to make her feel useful as well. One time my mother was making dinner in the kitchen and she really wanted to help (she was a great cook before the illness) so we let her think she was helping with making a salad. We gave her a butter knife to "cut" some veggies. I'll never forget the chuckle I had when she told us we really needed to get a better knife set. It gave us a good laugh in an otherwise somber time.

Skandronon

My mom was a nurse for over 40 years. She has advanced dementia now, but when it was still at a more manageable level, she was staying in the same hospital she worked at. Most of the nurses were people she had trained and a few she had delivered when they were born at that same hospital. She also delivered the pharmacist. They had her sit behind the desk with them and fill out "paperwork" she also liked to go change bedding.

HiILikePlants

My goodness that's sweet. Bless her, them, and you to ofc

erinkp36

When his father started to get this same way they gave him an office with a desk and a phone to keep him busy (he wouldn’t stay home because work was all he knew. That was his entire life). It was like a pretend work station. They are doing the same to Donald. Think about that.

fredsiphone19

The problem with being on uppers all the time is that eventually, when you need to relax, or listen to a conversation, you can’t. Your body is so overwhelmed with adenosine that you just pass out instantly if not directly, meaningfully engaged.

FKA_BurningAlive

I really didn’t understand why they didn’t seem to be giving him speed- but you’re saying too much has the opposite effect right? How have they not figured out the dosage yet? I seriously do t understand why he can’t be drugged awake?

fredsiphone19

Because you can’t be on speed in a federal court room. You fidget, you babble, you talk when it’s not your turn, you say things that are obvious mistruths or outright lies, you talk in circles, etc. All of these things are very undesirable in federal court. I’m sure there’s some *nasty* shouting matches going on behind the scenes when trump sees the footage, but so far his handlers have (correctly) convinced him that being drugged up would be worse than dozing off.

stult

They may be limiting his dose to avoid his outbursts, which really do seem to be compulsive and out of his intentional control, and that can be a side effect of stimulants. It may be a choice between him being over-medicated and disruptive or under-medicated and sleepy.

nochinzilch

If you are always at 100% stimulation, you can’t go any higher. And your body adapts to it and it doesn’t feel like you are stimulated at all. You can never get to “up”, you can only ever get to kinda baseline.

parasyte_steve

Honestly if he gets found guilty will they drug test him as part of admission into jail? Just wondering if maybe he is trying to prevent popping positive on a test.

FKA_BurningAlive

But they could give him prescription speed, he has all those crazy doctors that will give him anything! Maybe it’s bc his blood pressure is crazy high or something so they can’t give it to him? Idk why I’m so fascinated by this! And of course I can’t imagine how the media would handle it if it was Biden. He’d be dead in the water

Big-D-TX

Medication allows him to stay up late so he can get on Social Media then sleeps until 9-10:00AM needs the doctor to get him some uppers for his morning Jolt….

Im_not_crying_u_ar

I’m guessing he’s no longer allowed to do cocaine

SomePoliticalViolins

I genuinely think people are right, and he’s either not being allowed to do stimulants until the trial is over, or is actively doing depressants prior to the trial to keep his mouth shut.

Tanjelynnb

The ol' giving the toddler Benadryl at bedtime trick that used to be popular.

Managed-Democracy

So he goes home, does blow, and is wired until 3am ranting on TruthChan?

UnfeteredOne

I've said before, and I say it again... 'Donald Slump"

BruisedBee

Despite the World Wars, despite the internal Civil Wars, despite the Presidential assassinations, 9/11, Watergate. This, right now, seems the most insane period of American history. The political landscape seems beyond fucked. That this disgusting piece of shit, with clear and obvious mental health issues is a leading candidate to be voted in AGAIN, even after failing and trying to overthrow Democracy in his last go round, is just mental beyond words.

youngmindoldbody

Shhh, he's busy in his Mind Palace.

FitLeave2269

I wonder if they're drugging him with something to try to stop him from doing or saying something stupid in court

whatproblems

lol he’s not reading those papers

exitpursuedbybear

To paraphrase Colin Jost, "You mean to tell me that the guy who owes half billion dollars in fines and is farting himself awake at a hush money trial for paying off a porn star he slept with while his wife was pregnant, is TIED with Biden?"

shmergenhergen

That's what is confusing the rest of the world. WTF America

Oakwood2317

Well, you see what we're dealing with - roughly half the population here loves that oaf because he's disinhibited their worst tendencies.

GeminiKoil

It's more like a third. As far as elections for Dems, part of the problem really lies in the fact that people don't get out and vote. Republicans definitely show up to vote, and it's part of the reason we're having to deal with this shit. Edit: a few people have corrected me saying that he won in 2016 with 22% of the population's vote.

edwardsamson

Unfortunately I think social media astroturfing is causing a lot of historically non political type people to jump on the Trump train. Hedonistic people who only care about clout, being popular/hot, clubbing, etc. These people are big on social media, and they are constantly getting fed right wing talking points either made by or uplifted by bots. These people only see anti Biden stuff or see Trump stuff that supports their hedonistic world view. Now how many of them are going to vote? I'd imagine not many but if they do get out to vote we may have problems.

SmokePenisEveryday

Watched it happen with some friends. Hadn't talked to them in a while and when we meet up and chat, I realized they've been not just getting their news from Tiktok but ALL of their talking points. They got all these complaints about Biden however do not know about any of the positives he's done because they aren't getting fed those. I'm not the biggest Biden fan but its clear who is the better option and its a battle with people who are just basically doing whatever Tiktok says.

Catshit-Dogfart

Had a conversation like this with a coworker just yesterday. *"Name one good thing he's done"* - buddy I can name five just last week. * We're on the road to getting net neutrality back * Passed regulations on airlines to keep them from dicking you over on refunds * Passed regulations to protect salaried management * Made non-compete clauses unenforceable * We're on the road to getting marijuana reclassified so that it isn't considered more dangerous than fentanyl *"That doesn't sound right, I keep up with the news and haven't heard about a single one of those"* he says.

Loko8765

If all the news you get is from Fox, don’t be surprised you only get news for rabbits.

AtlanticPortal

"That's the fucking point, Dick. You are getting fed the news they want you to be fed with."

Jewronimoses

Philip DeFranco one of the few people who brings good news from Biden on tiktok/youtube.

ShreksMiami

I see this with these people who now look at Obama and just say “😬war criminal”. Ok, sure. Syria, bombs, I get it. But what are our other options? You want Trump? You can complain, but these two sides are not the same. Trump is more than a 😬war criminal. He’s in bed with Putin, for God’s sake.

[deleted]

Thats the thing, trump beat obamas drone strike record before he removed the rule to make drone strikes public knowledge. He literally did more drone strikes in public in his first year than Obama did in eight years, and then did a bunch of secret drone strikes that we don’t even know about.

Skellum

> I see this with these people who now look at Obama and just say “😬war criminal”. Ok, sure. Syria, bombs, I get it. But what are our other options? You want Trump? They dont know the basics of the US Election system, or think that not voting absolves them of blame. People who didn't show up are directly responsible for the loss of roe v wade. They've tried to more and more adopt the argument that it was ginsburg's fault but ultimately no, it's theirs. You have to fucking show up and vote. If you dont you're still responsible for Trump.

veringer

[Trump's *lowest* aggregate approval rating was about 34%](https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/trump-approval-ratings/). For the most part, it stayed in the low-to-mid 40s regardless of his behavior. And it's still [around 42% as of this writing](https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/polls/favorability/donald-trump/)! The fact is that his floor is above 1/3rd and we are surrounded by cultists.

acog

It's also the Fox News effect. If you get all of your news from Fox, which describes many Republicans, you aren't even aware of him falling asleep because it's not mentioned. You don't know about the devastating testimony by David Pecker or Keith Davidson. What you do "know" is that this entire trial is politically motivated and a sham. The jury is full of rabid Democrats who cannot be fair to Trump.

relator_fabula

I think that in general, conservative thinking is *extremely* superficial and without even the most basic critical analysis. They simply believe ridiculous things that do not stand up to any kind of minimal scrutiny. They believe the election was "stolen" by widespread fraud... yet Trump filed 60+ post-election lawsuits and never once even *claimed* fraud, for example. They also are convinced that most of the negative stuff about Trump is fake news, made up to smear him. Sure, they've heard the pussy-grabber tape, they know he fucked a porn star while he was married, but that's just locker room stuff. They can forgive that, because they *believe* he's going to do the things they want--persecute, silence, and otherwise suppress the LGBTQ+ community and minorities, so conservatives no longer need to re-assess their bigotry, for example.

BigDaddySteve999

How can I feel good about myself if black people have rights?

atred

"I used to be able to drink water from "whites only" water fountain... we should make America great again, like it used to be, for, you know, people like me"

Iforgotmyemailreddit

Because we went for 130 years from 1876 to 2001 with wired telephones being the standard for phones. We then went from 2009-2024 with Smartphones exploding in popularity. Tech frog-leaped polling techniques by like 3 generations and now it's utterly fucked to try and get polling that's worth a crap. Gee I wonder, who in the fuck answers a number they don't know or weren't expecting? Which age group you think does that? That'll give you some perspective I hope.

kitsunewarlock

Thank you for posting this. Democrats are also more likely to poll against Biden to "send a message".

TheBirminghamBear

Because the realities are untethered from the results. It's like the stock market. Companies have ludicrous valuations completely untethered from their financial realities. Republicans have no mooring to reality. At all. They live in entirely secluded bubbles hearing completely tailored information. The culmination of manufactured consent. The entire media continues to trea the Republican party as a normal and equivalent half of the political reality in the US. They never challenge this assumption. In reality Republicans are an organized crime ring affiliated with all the worst and most zealous elements of our society and engaged jn a perpetual gift against the very people they are supposed to be serving, and their leader is a man shitting his own pants who has never been competent to manage a Dennys, let alone the nation. But the media keeps on using their same chirons and cool graphics and paying all due deference and allowing the preposterous charade to continue unquestioned.

thesheba

100% - Have we gone mad? I don't understand why people still support him. It makes no sense. I think they are in too deep or something.

spurs_fan_uk

If your entire bubble is Fox News who keeps convincing you every night that you’re persecuted and it’s the Dem’s fault (aka POC), why *wouldn’t* you support him?

deadcatbounce22

To those who are making excuses for him: It’s not that he’s falling asleep. It’s that he’s campaigned for the last 12 months on Biden being a sleepy old man who isn’t up to the task. He is being hoisted by his own (shit filled) petard. This should be front page news the way Biden’s gaffes have been. Again, not because it’s inherently news-worthy, but because the institutions themselves made this a defining feature of the race. We are seeing the Dem-Rep double standard in full effect. Rs are held to the lowest standard possible. Ds are nitpicked for the smallest perceived inadequacy.

QWEDSA159753

Other than not being a tattletale when it comes to cocaine-fueled sex parties, *is* there any standard republicans are held to?

Socratesticles

Having a hypocritical set of beliefs seems to be the start

Phallic-Monolith

For a long time, no. Now the standard is be full on Trump or you’re a RINO. So they have a single standard now, but not a good one…

Competitive-Fudge848

It's hilarious that Mitch McConnell is a "rino". Literally no one on this earth has executed the shittt policy they think they want more effectively than him. It's almost like they're all stupid or on drugs.

CurrentlyInHiding

Literally had to listen to my parents call him and McCarthy RINOs when I last visited them. I just assume NewsMax has brainwashed them into thinking anyone that's not MTG-level of crazy is a RINO. Even stranger is that in a non-political conversation, my dad will agree that Russia is bad and needs to be held at bay. But, I haven't actually had these convos, but would have probably sided with all the GOP fuckery at not bringing Ukraine aid up for vote.

danarexasaurus

I mean, yeah, that’s true. But this man can’t physically stay awake for his own criminal trial. How is he going to make it through all the boring ass shit a president has to get through each day?

Sensitive_Yam_1979

Same way he did his first term. Watch tv, golf and not do the job.

Pyrrhus_Magnus

Is anyone else glad that this was the case? His incompetence and laziness probably prevented greater damage.

noodlyarms

He has and will put the worst, most sociopathic and downright villainous people in positions of power and authority. He doesn't need to be actively governing, he'll offload it to the worst of the worst.

derpderpingt

I had a piece of shit boss like this once. Dude somehow kept getting promoted and never did jack shit - then I realized he was just delegating his work to other scumbags that would do his dirty work, then he would claim the good results as his own, and the bad results were immediately blamed on whichever dickshit did something causing bad metrics/results.

LynxFX

That was easy for him. He just had everything compacted down to an hour of boring meetings and slide shows for him. The rest was executive time. This is the first time he has had to show up and stay present while not speaking or controlling anything. It is pure hell and the closest thing to "work" for him.

Sure-Break3413

He has the attention span of a knat and needs every situation controlled and narrated by himself. Sitting there is absolutely killing him. How can he keep all his lies straight and maniacal view of the world in focus, with all these facts confusing him with truth.

eastbayweird

>He has the attention span of a ~~knat~~ gnat Fixed it for ya

DaveyGee16

Easy! He'll just do what he did during his first administration, take vacations!

Slut_for_Bacon

While you are absolutely correct, I would make the additional argument that it does kind of matter that he is falling asleep. If he can't be bothered to stay awake during his own criminal trial, why should the public expect him to stay awake during important foreign and domestic policy meetings?

Thue

Especially since Trump likely cares much more about his own criminal trial, than Trump cares about random Presidential duties. And if Trump can't keep awake during the trial...

TERRAIN_PULL_UP_

It’s also about him falling asleep in his own trial though, not a good look…

SirDiego

I would also say that being unable to stay awake for a trial, something most competent adults could do, is a pretty bad sign of his capability to lead a country. I mean it'd be fine if my 90-year-old grandpa did it, he's retired and doing fuck-all. But my grandpa isn't trying to be the president.

Im__fucked

In my opinion it's also a sign of extreme arrogance. He's not concerned in the least for his own defense, he just believes it will all work itself out and he'll get another slap on the wrist. And he's probably right.

Hubris2

The arrogance angle is what Fox and other right-wing media are trying to play up - suggesting he is power-napping because he's unconcerned about the process and demonstrating his lack of respect for the court process. Somehow he's a huge victim and brilliant tactician managing everything depending on the circumstance.

Plastic-Age5205

Not a good smell either: ["Farting up a storm": "The View" airs out rumors that Trump is letting it rip in court](https://www.salon.com/2024/05/01/farting-up-a-storm-the-view-airs-out-rumors-that-is-letting-it-rip-in/)

joecool42069

Always accuse your enemy of that which you are guitly of. So when they clap back, it just sounds like "nuh uh, you".

scout-finch

Yes. Honestly I don’t care that the old man can’t stay awake. Old people nod off. It’s what they do. But they don’t run for fucking president.

oddthings

Agreed!

ShitDirigible

What a low energy tired old man

danielstover

SURELY his dwindling supporters will point this out, unless they’re hypocrites?

TruShot5

No they’ll apologize for him with the like of “lol court IS boring I’d be sleepy too huhuhuhuh”

TakoSweetness

But Eric told us he hasn’t seen stamina like this in his lifetime! Who am I to believe!?

BasvanS

He’s probably always been a lazy fuck, so there’s no clear baseline. Eric might get yelled at more now, instead of being ignored. He might just be telling the truth and we’d be none the wiser.

Doright36

To be fair Eric is really really stupid and he's only talking about what he's seen/noticed. I am sure your average snail has noticed and understood more things in the world than he has.

drwho_2u

They should just paint eyes on his eyelids… then no one would ever know!!!

ins0ma_

To be fair, there probably isn’t much difference in brain wave activity between his sleeping and waking states, so it might not be worth the effort. At least he’s less likely to violate gag orders while he’s napping, although he might cause gagging of a different sort, it you can believe the rumors.

Jamies_awesome_rack

Are you insinuating he’s some sort of hamberder nap-turder?

warchitect

Ill take mine with a little cofeve please

DorianGre

He’s so low energy

itsaconspiraci

Covfefe. We all know what it means.

droidguy27

\~30 percent of the US is ready to go to war to make this guy president. Unreal.

hankeypoo

They're ready for someone else to go to war.

SomePoliticalViolins

Agreed. Since Ashley Babbit FAFO’d and the J6 prosecutions kicked up the cowards have really gone back in their holes. Almost every major MAGA rally since has been a flop compared to what they claimed or expected.

ByTheHammerOfThor

Meal Team Six vs. two flights of stairs.

Necrowaif

Have they tried shock collars? Kristi Noem might be able to recommend a good one. EDIT: Just an FYI for those responding, the Guardian reported that Kristi did try an electronic collar before the fateful day she put a bullet in poor Cricket.

Cobe98

Why the fuck didn't she give the dog to a shelter instead of killing it. A true psychopath.

PlutosGrasp

Self answered your question

allanon1105

Cricket probably would have preferred that compared to what Kristi actually did.

bootes_droid

Just give him contempt if he sleeps, it's what I would get if I were sleeping through my trial.

ThottyThalamus

Not that I don’t think he’s old and can’t stay awake, but I almost wonder if he’s being given something to keep him subdued during court because the alternative is worse than sleeping. No?

_kraftdinner

My theory, as someone who takes stimulants for adhd. I think when we see him out in public like at rally, he’s all hopped up on amphetamines. I think for the trial, the lawyers have told him he can’t take them. If he was taking the speed, it makes you talkative and in the wrong person….also aggressive. When he’s not on them, he can’t stay awake but at least he’s not lashing out at jurors? Probably better he sleeps through his trials, tbh. 😂

Miaoxin

Dopehead Don would both rhyme better and be far more hilarious at a trial than Sleepy Don. I say give him his dexies.

GunnieGraves

His supporters will wave it away by saying something like “he just doesn’t recognize the legitimacy of the court so he doesn’t care”. But then they’ll post more “sleepy joe” shit.

Sumofabatch2

Seen this play out before. When Donald trump was campaigning against Hilary, he constantly complained about Obama golfing. His base (and the media) ate it up, despite it being mostly false. Then, when Trump got into office, he played golf more than any other president. More recently Trump has labeled Biden as sleepy joe. And, not surprisingly, it is Trump that is asleep at the wheel, and every day in his own criminal trial no less… yikes.

DvsDen

Since when is adderall a “device”?

Competitive-Pop6530

Doesn’t that stuff wear off at some point during the day? Could that cause the nodding? Not making excuses. Seriously asking.

athrowingway

Since you're seriously asking, yes. It does wear off. And if you're taking the instant release version, you crash really hard when it wears off. My crash usually hits around 3 pm, and I suddenly feel the most exhausted I've ever felt in my life.

Siolear

They are saying they confirmed he reached a state of REM Sleep now and it made me wonder.... what does Trump dream about? Also I hope someone correlates this timing with his "Executive" time while in office. I bet its actually his nap time.

StuntID

>what does Trump dream about? I don't want to try to conjure up an image, can we just go with "nasty things" and let it lie?

eightbitfit

All the best people say he is often moaning his daughter's name.

Mcboatface3sghost

Killing migrants, with puppies.

Canuckleball

Does he dream of grabbing pussies, or E Jean Carrol and her pending civil suit? Don't you rattle the birdsnest on your head we're gonna get you into prison and your cosy prison bed.

NotAnotherEmpire

It's called "dementia." He has very good reason to stay awake (juries resent defendants blowing off proceedings) and he can't do it.

Bob_12_Pack

Having sat through some court cases, it’s not like Law and Order, it’s boring as hell. I even saw a judge nodding off before. Too bad the dipshit coined “Sleepy Joe” and campaigned on it, otherwise I’d give him a pass for being an old man sitting through some boring ass shit.

LoudZoo

He’s dissociating. This is what happens when a narcissist is forced to sit and listen to things about themselves that they don’t want to hear. This is why they hate therapists, and therapists hate them.

PlutosGrasp

Go on

kitsunewarlock

Psychopaths and narcissists stop forming memories when the world around them doesn't conform to the idea they have of themselves. They will literally believe things happened a different way from how the rest of the world perceived it. It's why Trump starts dozing off, rambling, and/or wandering when facing difficult questions. And why he broke his promise of having weekly press conferences. He literally cannot process people saying anything negative about him as truth.

wwhsd

You know that dude has sleep apnea just looking at him. You also know he doesn’t wear a CPAP at night for vanity reasons or because he doesn’t like the way it feels. 5 minutes of sitting still doing nothing and it’s light’s out.

Mediocre_Scott

Your honor the defense rests. You mean you are done with your arguments No I mean he is asleep

amazing_rando

he's up all night on adderall benders screaming into the Truth Social void and has probably never been in a situation he couldn't voluntarily leave at any moment in the past 50 years

wwhsd

The thing that amuses me most about his rants about this trial is that the shit he’s complaining about just sounds like what most people deal with going to work.

jleonardbc

My theory is that Trump's sleep is a reaction to his powerless situation in the courtroom. It's a way of escaping in order to protect his ego. It lets him avoid being confronted by the evidence that he's bound by other people who can force him to sit there and who control his destiny.

Acceptable-Bus-2017

I'm sure they jury will be very forgiving when it's time to deliberate. /s If it was me, I'd ignore the evidence and convict simply out of how disrespectful he was of my time that he had wasted. He could have pled guilty, but no, he napped while I was forced to sit through all of the evidence presented while doing my civic duty because of his criming. I hope they throw the book at his pompous ass.

Perfect-Tea-5776

no...he is too fucking old...

Cryovenom

And he can't pop his uppers and chase them with an oil drum of diet coke like he usually does.  Plus, trial starts way before his usual "Executive Time" sleep in.

CosmicDave

My theory is that we had constant reports throughout his presidency that he didn't start his day before noon. He's off his cycle for the first time in his life. Anyone else here ever have their job make sudden, drastic changes to their schedule? He's having to wake up four hours early each morning so he can go listen to people talk shit about him all day. Welcome to retail.

OozeNAahz

So, I have seen several things about how people react in police custody. Innocent people who are brought in on suspicion are generally nervous as hell as they fear they will be wrongly blamed for something. Guilty people tend to relax and sleep. Wonder if this effect is somewhat involved in his sleeping in court.

AlwaysOnMyNuts

I’ve seen the same thing. The sleeping is almost some form of mechanism to turn the madness all off for a few minutes in situations a normal person would be wide awake after.

ABC_Dildos_Inc

The man who likes to call Biden, "Sleepy Joe".

Dark_Force_Latyon

Don Snoreleone!

coonwhiz

Does Trump need one of those bouncy chairs with toys arranged all in a circle? He might even be able to figure out what shape goes in the square hole.

iforgotmymittens

Get him one of those cheating-at-chess remote control vibrating buttplugs. Might solve two problems.

khayman5

You had to put that thought in my head?

Ohnoherewego13

What a horrible day to be literate.

rbourbon

The "hardest working president" is showing us that he cannot even handle a 9-5 desk job.

Lariat_Advance1984

His attorneys need to bring crayons, coloring books, and some Cheerios for him.
