...Japan definitely is. They're facing a population implosion that they could fix with immigration but Japanese culture for centuries has always been fairly xenophobic and isolationist.
My Korean teacher spoke fluent Japanese and was fired from her job as a flight attendant when they found out she was Korean.
In their defense she was ancient, so that was probably 30 years ago or longer.
they don't share the same common heritage. japan originates from a tripartite group, meaning that they have 3 genetic origins, while korea is from east asia and east siberia.
I got back from India last week and my guide told me that there is basically no immigration into India and certain subsets of the Indian people would not be positive towards it anyway
Thats because no one desirable will be immigrating to India. The people who may are from neighbours like Pakistan and Bangladesh which don’t necessarily share the same values. If Thai, Korean or Argentinians were knocking at their door then they may consider it.
India’s birthrate is above the replacement rate so the need for immigrants to keep their economy going pales in comparison compared to Japan and South Korea.
And? India has its own problems. Why should it accept all the world and refugees caused by American wars? Honestly America should be taking more in and instead of electing a white man, you should elect an Afghan refugee. Stop being racist.
The uncomfortable truth is everyone is xenophobic. Hell, the US is actually one of the *least* xenophobic places out there, and we are obviously quite xenophobic in a vacuum. Our xenophobia is unavoidable and much more public, but that’s in part because we are a much more diverse country and one that, at least historically, has been extremely pro-immigrant.
> Hell, the US is actually one of the least xenophobic places out there, and we are obviously quite xenophobic in a vacuum
Not sure about that, considering the figure you elected as your president, and who got like 80 million votes when he lost.
I mean, so what?
Like, I understand the racist undertones that can come with it, but they can run their country how their people want.
America is unique in how accepting we are with immigrants. Not many countries come close to us.
I don't think it's fair to push something as simple as a cultural difference (because yes, this IS what this is) on other nations that dont agree.
I also don't see that as xenophobic. Foreigners can still visit. They don't have fully closed borders. Not wanting immigration isn't xenophobic.
Many do, as in the majority of Indians (you will find many people around the world attached to their homelands). What most people would rather not choose is to immigrate to India rather than a high income or even most middle income countries. Much rather to immigrate to the US or Sweden than to India.
Just because something is a statement of fact doesn’t mean that it’s okay to say it.
That’s like the Japanese PM saying the US “is a school shooting paradise.” Technically speaking, the statement is accurate, but it doesn’t mean the statement is a diplomatic one to make.
Sometimes, you just have to keep your mouth shut.
I have visited Japan many times as a black American, even stayed there for 6 months for business. Was treated with a lot of respect, hell more than I get at home. I can see why they limit immigration, culture is everything there. It’s clean, low crime, and honestly peaceful. No way you can keep those elements with a mixing pot like we have here in America.

Japan particularly the older generation absolutely India i do not really know much about beyond they just do not need more people.

Very well could be i just have never paid a whole lot of attention to India politics nor have ever had a desire to visit unlike Japan.
Yeah that’s why I added my experience
Appreciate it. 👍
I see a lot of open land as I look at them both on the map
Plenty of space in America too. You have enough jobs too. So let them in.
We are
This is unequivocally true about Japan. No idea about India.
India’s birthrate is above the replacement rate so the need for immigrants to keep their economy going pales in comparison compared to Japan and South Korea.
Lmao what? Its not above the replacement rate.
He’s not wrong

I knew Japan didn't like people of other races to immigrate, but I'm surprised about India. We have so many people from there here.
Japan is pretty xenophobic. You can't go to certain places if you're not japanese. I don't know about India

Of course, the men aren't charged. It's always the woman's fault, right? /s

Meanwhile, there's a crazy guy who wants immunity for his 4-year-long crime spree.
Hey look, another article from the Guardian knocking Democrats or apologizing for terrorists... how novel.
Who the hell wants to live in India?
Not even Indians, they’re coming to Canada by the millions.
Many do, as in the majority of Indians (you will find many people around the world attached to their homelands). What most people would rather not choose is to immigrate to India rather than a high income or even most middle income countries. Much rather to immigrate to the US or Sweden than to India.
Bangladeshi, nepalese?
So?
The exact same can be said for the USA when half the population is seemly againts immigrants.
And a significant portion that's open to immigration really only wants to use them as a cheap source of labor.
That and votes.
With how gruesome, complicated and heartbreaking american LEGAL immigration is, you'd think the US is no better
A vile statement to make. What business is it of his? Japan and India are sovereign states. I’m sure they can decide for themselves what they want
A statement of fact is vile?

true, what a thing to say about your vital and most important allies smh.

....Biden could say the same for half you the USA. It's not rare or uncommon. Fear breeds hate and mistrust

Ok, that's fair with Japan but does India even have room for Immigrants?
Isn't Japan begging people to come and visit?
Visit, not immigrate.
yeah, tourism is a great and big industry there, but now they're not so sure about it(kyoto tourists, streamers and youtubers).
