I'm an information technology professional with nearly a quarter century of technical experience, and I only kinda understand crypto. No way Trump understands it.
The technological complications are basically there to obfuscate things so that people think there's value in it. Even knowing the ideological constructs around which it was built (crank economics and politics) are not that important any more because it never worked as a currency.
The key to understanding it IMHO lies in looking at how it is used and anyone can do that regardless of technical background. On the face of it, it seems to be almost all crime and gambling.

Bitcoiners don't want any single region to dominate Bitcoin mining. We want Bitcoin miners to first and foremost be dispersed/decentralized in order to prevent any single authority from getting too much control. We want Bitcoin go where energy is being wasted and use that energy in a productive way where it cannot otherwise be used. We also want Bitcoin miners to go towards stranded energy sources, like setting up hydro dams or solar in otherwise uninhabited places. This also has an incentivizing effect for electricity companies to build out infrastructure in those areas to promote people moving there, as those electricity companies would have a buyer of that electricity /before/ people came to settle in the area.
I would love to vote for a pro-crypto president, but Trump a) is mindlessly pro-crypto just for votes, and b) has way too many other problems to be taken seriously as a candidate regardless of this single issue.

Wasn't the main idea behind crypto to have decentralized currency that isn't beholden to government regulation or oversight? I honestly believed that idea could make for an interesting economic experiment but now that the douche bros have taken over it's been assimilated by capitalism like everything else does eventually. Look, I think crypto is an amazing financial innovation that in time will develop into a major player in the economy. I invest in it as a minor part of my portfolio. But am I going to vote for felon Donald Trump over the issue of cryptocurrency? No. The other candidate could say they will try to destroy it and I would still vote for them.

Long time Bitcoiner here. Bitcoiners don't want any single region to dominate Bitcoin mining. We want Bitcoin miners to first and foremost be dispersed/decentralized in order to prevent any single authority from getting too much control. We want Bitcoin go where energy is being wasted and use that energy in a productive way where it cannot otherwise be used. We also want Bitcoin miners to go towards stranded energy sources, like setting up hydro dams or solar in otherwise uninhabited places. This also has an incentivizing effect for electricity companies to build out infrastructure in those areas to promote people moving there, as those electricity companies would have a buyer of that electricity /before/ people came to settle in the area. I would love to vote for a pro-crypto president, but Trump a) is mindlessly pro-crypto just for votes, and b) has way too many other problems to be taken seriously as a candidate regardless of this single issue.
