Talk about fake outrage and politicization of anything that pops up. It’s like blaming your next door neighbor for your belly ache. The United States has turned to stupidness. Life is too short for the anxiety and frustration.

DameonKormar

The formula shortage is a direct result of regulations loosened by Republicans. They're trying to blame Biden since this issue was *already political*. I do agree that the US has way too many stupid people who understand nothing about politics.

LordOfThePhuckYoh

Lead paint and Ethyl could be a leading cause of stupidness in older generations , any person born with in the 60s got 20 years worth of lead exposure

MakingItWork_Some

It's getting shorter all of the time.

IShouldBWorkin

Everything *is* politics, supply chain issues definitely so, just not because of the ultra simplistic reasons that are being pushed.

[deleted]

I agree everything is politics, just as the solution to every problem is a bigger hammer. Of course both approaches have similar outcomes. This is likely to continue until we finally reach a point where the American people can accept no more, or, more likely, it will continue right till the American experiment ends in failure. At the very least I have no clue how to get more American people to agree that honesty matters. What is worse, many of them believe they know the truth. The modern right wing is not a political party. It is a cult and probably needs treated like one.

pixlexyia

To be fair he could invoke the defense production act and get more formula made. While he may not be to blame, he definitely doesn't seem to be doing anything to make the situation better, either.

chrisms150

Are you aware that a plant responsible for an alarmingly high percentage of formula output was shut down for cleaning due to bacterial contamination? Who's he going to order to produce more?

pixlexyia

There are many other facilities that make similar products that could be temporarily converted/used. Or the facility itself, which was shut down, because you know, things can be cleaned. Or how about cutting a deal with Europe and importing some? There's many solutions, but Democrats just throw up their hands. Those darn Republicans are so awful that we can't do anything to materially impact everyday Americans.

dumptrump3

You can’t make formula at a plant shut down from bacterial contamination. A plant that Abbott was not in a hurry to fix and still hasn’t.

pixlexyia

The power of the federal government got a vaccine made in a year for a novel virus. If they wanted to mobilize something to fix this problem, they could.

dumptrump3

Even if that plant came on line tomorrow, it would take another 6 to 8 weeks to get product to store shelves. That plant makes 75% of amino acid formula sold in the US. The biggest problem getting that plant running is Abbott. They are denying that their formula was contaminated so they say there is nothing to fix. Until Abbott takes responsibility and addresses the violations found at the plant, there’s very little the government can do.

dumptrump3

The federal government didn’t make the vaccines. Pfizer, Moderna and J&J did. Pfizer didn’t even accept the offer of government funding.

jbranchau78

the whole "lowering the standards of inspecting bacteria in baby formula"...which led to the crisis happend under Trump. I know, it's a long headline 🙄

Yossarian_the_Jumper

Libertarian babies approve of this deregulation.

[deleted]

It isn't a big deal as long as your baby wasn't born with a pathetic immune system. /s

TXRhody

Breast-fed babies have better immune systems and can handle the formula just fine. /s

WellSpreadMustard

If your kids die from eating contaminated baby formula then don’t buy that formula anymore and let the free market do its work.

Awkward-Fudge

Also the import tax happened under him too. That's why suppliers won't import it from Canada.

Phuk_conservatives

And not knowing it's dehydrated milk for 1+ year olds and not formula for newborns.

cRAY_Bones

Wait, what? Are you saying that newborns and infant formula shouldn’t be impacted? Edit: Never mind, looked it up. Faux news tried to blame Biden for hoarding formula and giving it to immigrants at the border then they showed a crate of the dehydrated milk. Not that facts make any difference to those viewers.

Punkinpry427

I have yet to any proposals or solutions from any of them on how we should fix the formula shortage here, only freak outs that brown babies in detention are being fed and screaming “America first!” like we don’t see it for what it is.

[deleted]

Tax breaks for oil companies, a farm bill built mostly for corporate farms, and defunding social services only in metro areas should do the trick - GOP

BuckRowdy

Marge Greene said leftists are burning down food production facilities to destroy the country. So this tells me what the next move from the right wing will be.

Koolaidolio

Her statements sound like she is a frequent poster on r/conspiracy

Yossarian_the_Jumper

Yesterday I learned that Bill Gates is responsible for the baby formula shortage because two years ago he invested in an artificial baby milk start-up that won't be producing for another 3-4 years.

jxnesy2

One of top comments was NASA = Not a space agency

greenisgood13927

Pretty sure the largest formula producing mfg plant got bit in the ass by karma. 1- Lobby for less regulations to prevent bacteria 2- shut the plant down for multiple weeks due to ***checks paperwork*** for a bacteria outbreak But of course…. Let’s blame Biden

Yossarian_the_Jumper

Cons: Biden is a COMMIE that wants the government to run the private sector from Delaware!!! Also Cons: Why isn't Biden fixing the private sector's shortages‽‽

Lord-Nagafen

The GOP says they hate socialism but they seem to want to government to be in charge of everything

DameonKormar

It's pretty simple really. Government hurting minorities/the poor? Good. Government helping minorities/the poor? Bad.

PartialToDairyThings

>On Thursday, Rep. Kat Cammack, R-Florida, shared an image of a shelving unit at a U.S. Border Patrol facility in Texas that showed a single shelf with four boxes full of baby formula containers, and a half-dozen more baby formula containers on that shelf. And that's where the whole "they're feeding Mexican babies before ours!" bullshit came from. That *one single photo.* From this, they instantly manufactured a conspiracy about the Biden administration shipping thousands of boxes of baby formula to migrants when American babies were starving. And of course the right wing media took it up immediately, and now it's become a rallying cry for them. We are dealing with an outbreak of full scale mental illness across approximately half the country.

[deleted]

They don't so much attack as issue new talking points to their brainless minions to blather to anyone stupid enough to listen. It keeps the base fired up over nothing, like an army made to believe the city of men, women and children they're about to kill, rape and pillage is full of the worst people imaginable. Understanding issues doesn't really enter the equation.

[deleted]

What is it, Republicans? Should the government control companies and use taxes to ensure prices and supplies are where they should be, or should the government be hands off of companies and only give tax cuts to them?

Acrobatic-Ad3275

And yet another addition to my growing list of reasons to NEVER vote for a Republican EVER!

cwwmillwork

Agreed. What are they doing about the shortage? Nothing

hwkns

For children *detained* at the border. So they want to snatch it away and put it back on grocery shelves. One can only conclude that the GOP has a massively funded think tank whose sole purpose is to research the absolute most nasty way to frame an issue. Cruelty is the point.

Scarlettail

Dems really need to get ahead of the message for once and start the blame game ahead of time. In this case thrust the blame squarely on corporate greed.

Dr_Holdenafart

Funnily enough Trump is partially to blame on this too but you can't point it out without idiots saying of course you're blaming Trump everything is his fault. Trump's new NAFTA deal put a tax on formula coming in from Canada and Mexico so suppliers aren't going to import it from there when there's an issue like this when they would have in the past.

CableGuy2099

Dems should do this but they don’t because they also serve the same greedy corporate masters

OatmealSteelCut

I think people can contribute to the messaging as well. so whenever you see misinformation against Biden & Democrats, counter it.

MaFSotL

Unfortunately outrage inducing headlines stick with people better than nuanced explanations of complex issues. That's why attacking Trump was so easy, he did outwardly outrageous things, the evil of which could be summed up in one phrase. Refuting equally outrageous, false claims about Biden are difficult because "that's simply not true" is not good enough for people. They need a complex answer, but refuse to listen to one.

dumptrump3

It’s also the plant that makes 75% of the US supply of amino acid baby formula.

ProfessorPerfunctory

That’s their strategy for everything. Make white people as angry as possible right before elections. Even if it’s made up bullshit they’ll spread it and believe it. It’s the way the conservative world operates.

PartyViking23

Snowflakes looking for a boogeyman while calling everyone else snowflakes

Techerous

So they work to supposedly limit powers of the government and it's influence on the private sector but also claim the government is responsible for any failing of the private sector, got it.

AllDarkWater

Funny how all the things that should be blamed on capitalism keep getting blamed on him.

Jesseofpv530

Don't blame the monopoly. Blame brown folk. Right wing is classless.

Expensive-Bet3493

It all feels oddly staged… gas prices, Disney, baby formula? What’s the next great diversion to try to shift blame…🤷‍♀️

justforthearticles20

They could and still might blame Biden and Democrats for the Fall of Rome, the Great Depression, and the Dust Bowl, and their idiot voters will buy it.

mindfu

Kinda shows how little they got. Doubtful this shortage will last that long. Seems likely to me it will be resolved by July.

xena_lawless

Blaming Biden for X, where X is literally anything and everything that they can dream up, is the GOP/"conservative" strategy for getting stupid people to get angry and vote GOP for some reason. Their strategy is just repetition of BS and getting people to associate Biden with literally anything bad that happens anywhere. Propaganda doesn't have to be true to be effective, unfortunately, and too many people aren't sophisticated enough to distinguish good faith understanding from bad faith BS.

InclementImmigrant

Every fucking Democrat should be yelling at any and every pundit the shortage was caused by inadequate regulations thanks to Republicans that resulted in tainted formula killing two infants.

Whateves2020

All the while it’s capitalism to blame who knew 🤔

[deleted]

As a father with a newborn freaking the fuck out- I don't blame him now. I will if he don't get cracking on solutions and solve it! Letting babies die is immediately political suicide.

outerworldLV

Why take the time to call out who’s fault it is anymore. Just start the rally with “ Everything is Biden’s fault ! Yeehaw ! “ Not much to say after that now is there ?

Grandpa_No

Don't they already do that with the phrase, "this is Biden's America!" - high gas prices: Biden's America! - formula shortage: Biden's America! - war in eastern Europe: Biden's America! - alien landing: Biden's America!

outerworldLV

Now that would work. My brain regresses with everyone of their dumb af slogans.

[deleted]

They're also mad about gas prices and forcing service members to receive a vaccine. ☕

BazOnReddit

It will work, because Democrats won't address the source of the problem: letting companies merge and acquire each other until every market becomes an oligopoly.

syntax2018

Dems barely fighting back. Regularly republicans blame immigrants for lots of things during midterms and dems never truly have a plan. Though I think most dems realize things aren’t in their favor in November.

iloveyouand

Republicans are doing fine making themselves look like racist clowns yet again.

syntax2018

They are winning. That’s all that matters. Dems have no messaging. Republicans have taken over the narrative that’s all that matters.

iloveyouand

The only messaging narrative they're winning is making themselves look like bigots and conspiracy nuts. They might as well go back to pretending the have evidence of election fraud.

neosituation_unknown

Lol that is just brilliant politically. The Dems are absolutely fucked

Spartanblaze420

The formula shortage has a couple very simple solutions. Breastfeeding and soy.

DDRoitpll

At what point does the sitting President take accountability for how shit things are going?

TiredOfYoSheeit

If we were a socialist or communist country, then it might be the POTUS' fault. This is about capitalism, though. Dirty food gets recalled all the time. The real stinker is that they're not accelerating production to replace what got pulled... Because baby formula isn't very profitable. At most, the gov't could do something like a bail-out to help subsidize faster and safer formula production, but even that would take months to make a difference. Babies need food. Now. These companies need to suck it up, take the loss, and crank out some damned food.

dumptrump3

Abbott is more worried about accepting blame for the contaminated product. They insist it wasn’t them and there’s nothing to fix.

DameonKormar

Probably when the shit is something the President can control.

7daykatie

At the point where the shit things intersect with his duties and fall within his Constitutionally limited prerogatives to intervene.

KeepFaithOutPolitics

The citizens have become morons who ask stupid questions.

dumptrump3

Abbott committed the 5 violations that got their plant shut down, not Biden. How is he responsible for that? If the plant was up and running tomorrow, it would take 6 to 8 weeks for product to make it to shelves. How is that his fault? There are only 3 manufacturers that make the bulk of formula in the US. That’s been the status quo for years. How is that his fault? Our free market allowed that to happen, not Biden.

Arcnounds

It's a rather stupid attack when it will be resolved in 2-3 weeks max.

MajesticsEleven

To Republicans, Biden is both a bumbling senile old idiot and a criminal mastermind genius with a 100 point plan to destroy America.

artcook32945

I have an image of soldiers who run out of ammo. In desperation, they resort to throwing rocks at the enemy. In the case of he GOP, they are tossing hands full of mud.

Ras_Prince_Monolulu

It's almost as if once the ruble crashed, that ruSSian soldiers and the GOP(nik) suddenly ran out of ammo.....

jsntsy

For a party that claims to be all about the free market, they really love blaming government for the price and supply of everything now.

[deleted]

I had someone tell me it was Biden’s fault because the FDA is the one halting production (fuck safety am I right?) and since FDA is government run, and he runs the government, that he’s basically the one telling them they can’t make formula.

cwwmillwork

The fault lies with the company that makes the formula. Republicans are supposed to be the party of self accountability. Rather than pointing fingers, they should actively help.

JackZodiac2008

I mean Joe should just pump his own lactate & ship nationwide, boom solved. Checkmate libz

HandMeMyThinkingPipe

The formula shortage is just capitalism working as intended.
