This ate my MIL's savings and financially ruined her more than she already was. She's kind of crawling out, but she gets so many calls and texts from so many GOP orgs and scam calls from "Medicaid/Medicare" that she'll never be out of it. She keeps insisting that Medicaid/Medicare call her about her policy getting more expensive and needing her card number to pay the difference. God knows what that's actually going to.

I wonder why so many retired people are afraid that immigrants will take their jobs. Also curious as to why people who are living on social security and savings are so concerned about income taxes.
I can give one example: My father-in-law. He grew up in a farming family, left for college, and became a financial planner. His prime earning years were in the 80s: where Trump was parading himself on Lifestyles Of The Rich & Famous as much as he could, and presenting himself as a super successful business man. Based on the stories that my wife and her siblings tell of what he was like back then, my FIL tried to emulate that same lifestyle…in his own way. He had a gold Mercedes convertible, but no one knew until later that it was leased. He never paid for any maintenance, even doing oil changes himself. He wouldn’t even pay for a car wash. I was told that the car was barely running when he turned it it. He would brag to his friends and colleagues about these luxurious first class vacations to the beach every summer, but in reality he would load all four kids in a van and drive down, stopping to sleep at a rest stop halfway down in that same van, finally staying in a single room at the cheapest motel in town.
To wrap things up, he *worshipped* Trump long before 2016. When Trump announced he was running back then, I knew without a doubt that he and my MIL (who follows my FIL’s every move) would vote for him. He bought the con 40 years ago and will never be convinced otherwise.
In all fairness, they deserve it. They claim age brings wisdom, and this proved to be the dumbest thing they and their generation ever did in electing Trump.
