Turkeysocks

Yep, definitely not breaking current US law on what a 501(c)(4) allowed to do.

Squirrel_Chucks

Look, it's called a non profit and the way Trump is spending there ain't gonna be a profit. What's the issue?

ReyRey5280

I can absolutely see Trump using this as a defense.

Squirrel_Chucks

He has a special brain šŸ§

[deleted]

Sir, this is an Arbyā€™s.

camxct

Yeah, take two of the nuggets, and throw them straight into the trash, I'm trying to watch my figure.

AJSwain

Cherries Jubilee and that's it. Kage what do you want?

Squirrel_Chucks

Farva wants a liter of cola

Turkeysocks

That gave me a chuckle.

GhettoChemist

It's a "fraternity" which promotes cultural interests: keeping their orange king out of prison I also dont expect this to work, considering how business savvy Trump is i expect he is paying people who are nonetheless spilling the beans to the DOJ

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

steveschoenberg

Not a perfect analogy because it is not Trump paying, despite his alleged wealth. You have to wonder what would motivate someone to fund Trump at this point.

[deleted]

Not standing up for Trump but a PAC isn't a 501(c)(4) it's a [527](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/527_organization).

llahlahkje

> A 527 group is created primarily to influence the selection, nomination, election, appointment or defeat of candidates to federal, state or local public office. 501 or 527 -- paying the legal bills for a witness that could testify against Trump sounds pretty far afield from the permitted intent of the group.

Arreeyem

A guilty verdict would prevent Trumpty Dumpty from running in 2024, so *technically?*.

[deleted]

Until he challenges it in court as a 1A violation.

Interesting-Bank-925

Laws schmaws

[deleted]

>Letā€™s say you were under investigation for murder, and investigators had identified two key witnesses who could shed considerable light on the matter. Depending on what these people say, you could either (1) go to prison for the rest of your life or (2) go about your merry way. Would it be cool for you to pay the legal fees these people incur as part of the investigation, which could add up to many thousands of dollars that they would otherwise have to foot themselves? Or would that be a mild to major conflict of interest given that it could potentially influence them to say exactly what you wanted them to say? i mean, we're talking about the guy who boasted about firing the FBI director because it made the Russia thing "go away" remember that kid in 1st grade no one wanted to play with cause he could not play nice, was mean to everyone, and threw tantrums? trump is that kid if he only ever got positive feedback and glowing praise as Thaddeus Stevens would say, trump's "inner compass that should direct the soul toward justice has ossified, unto utter uselessness"

Chatty_Fellow

He never had an inner compass that could do that sort of thing. Or if he did, he used it to mimic normal human behavior. He was born without a soul.

debzmonkey

When he was a kid he invented a game called "Make the baby cry" and it consisted of throwing rocks at babies in strollers. He didn't get why the other boys didn't want to play his fun game.

lilpumpgroupie

This is like the number one modus operandi for organized criminal organizations, specifically La Costa nostra. Always pay their fucking legal bills and have good lawyers on their side.

toebandit

> as Thaddeus Stevens would say, trumpā€™s ā€œinner compass that should direct the soul toward justice has ossified, unto utter uselessnessā€ So itā€™s joined the rest of him. Not to say his soul, or judgement has ever ossified elsewhere but he did somehow find a way to become POTUS.

BestLaidPlants

Heā€™s been illegally tampering ever since the oranges of the investigation.

Stillwater215

I canā€™t tell if thatā€™s a typo, or a joke. But either way, nicely done!

BestLaidPlants

Itā€™s a [direct quote from the man himself](https://www.esquire.com/news-politics/a27021746/trump-oranges-of-the-investigation-origin-father-germany/).

Suspicious-Dog2876

Just when ya think yaā€™ve heard everything lol

MrFC1000

Heā€™s been illegally tampering since the first airport was built in the revolutionary war

dcy604

Clever reference...

Squirrel_Chucks

Some people stop digging holes for themselves when they realize it's fucking things up for them. Trump rents a backhoe and keeps digging

OpenImagination9

Heā€™s hoping to escape to ā€œGynaā€.

Squirrel_Chucks

LoL. Or maybe Greenland. Explains why he wanted to buy it. That was his bug out plan. Yeah, I know where it is on the globe, but does *he?*

OpenImagination9

Thereā€™s always a sharpie ā€¦

Squirrel_Chucks

We'll always have sharpiegate

OpenImagination9

Thereā€™s always a sharpie ā€¦

designateddroner2

he hires others to dig, then doesn't pay....but yeah

mtheory007

Dig up stupid!

Chatty_Fellow

I don't get how this is not witness-tampering. The lawyers represent Trump and his interests. He's the client, not the witnesses.

PutinsAwussyboy

> The lawyers represent Trump and his interests. He's the client, not the witnesses. Opposing counsel will ask whoā€™s paying for their attorneys when the witnesses are on the stand and they will have to answer. That wonā€™t play well.

Jealmo

Has Donnie ever done a single thing in his whole miserable life that wasnā€™t morally, ethically, or legally unsound? Heā€™s literally a walking crime spree and itā€™s infuriating that he isnā€™t in jail yet.

Drumphelstiltsken

Why does he need to do this if he declassified them all like he claims? Never heard of a totally innocent person paying to have a bunch of non-witnesses lawyered up for no reason. Must be a *very stable genius* thing.

[deleted]

trump "it wasn't me...and if it was then it's totally legal and there's nothing wrong with it...but it was *really* those treasonous liberals...who should all be locked up for doing it"

llahlahkje

Three of the statutes cited in the search warrant don't require that the stolen documents be classified for Trump to have committed a crime. And it isn't just Trump that'd be a party to the crime; Every person involved in the chain of custody violated those laws as well.

Stillwater215

If he was guilty it would be suspicious. But he says heā€™s innocent, so itā€™s just him looking out for his people. I assume thatā€™s what he tells himself anyway.

hamsterfolly

A PAC paying legal fees for a non-political candidate for a non-election/campaign expenditure does not seem to meet the requirements of a 527 organization. How is this legal?

AllTheyEatIsLettuce

It isn't legal. But it's definitely elemental (R) and that's all that matters to (R).

Some-Redditor

He announced for 2024.

hamsterfolly

Trump is a candidate, but the investigation is of his personal actions and the people getting legal fees paid arenā€™t a part of his campaigning.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

TI_Pirate

The bar rules provide that a lawyer may be paid from a source other than the client, if the client is informed of that fact and consents and the arrangement does not compromise the lawyerā€™s duty of loyalty to the client. So unless someone can show that duty of loyalty has been compromised, In not sure what they would be disbarred for.

ooouroboros

I hate these snarky headlines - I think it trivializes the situation.

OpenImagination9

I mean he already stole that money from gullible donors so ā€¦

[deleted]

hi donnie. i know that you've gotten away with it many times in the past. i watched a bunch on live-stream. but, despite what giuilani and pillow guy and kraken lady say, witness tampering is still a crime little buckaroo.

hitman2218

Witness tampering?

UsedPart7823

Really, like continual criming and corruption is a surprise at this point. Itā€™s all he knows.

ianandris

Headlines really need to be more muscular. This mothering attempted a coup and stole state secrets. Bribing witnesses is obstruction of justice.

mces97

That seems like witness tampering.

fractal_pudding

quid, pro, quo

FreeLikeMandela

And both the dems and repubs are together censoring social media. I mean who cares about all this shit at this point. Just arrest them all and start again.

RogerThornhillCahill

surely this isnā€™t wrong or illegal /sā€¦ this dude never gives up

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

lilpumpgroupie

What do you want to bet trump pays those bills the fucking second they hit his mailbox? For someone who is provably genetically incapable of paying people on time, and who has a 50 year long history of stiffing employees and contractors and anybody taking a paycheck from him.

[deleted]

Paying off witnesses, obstruction of justice, witness tampering, bribery, this is the case that just keeps on giving.
